Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=suzuki">Suzuki</a> today launched the facelift version of its Access 125 at Rs. 53,887. 
 
The scooter now comes with Suzuki’s eco performance system, few cosmetic upgrades and mechanical changes for better performance and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=fuel+efficiency">fuel efficiency</a>. It can now confidently take on segment leader <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Honda+activa">Honda Activa</a> 125 in the lucrative youth and urban commuter segment. 
 
The new Access is powered by a 4-cycle, single cylinder, air-cooled, SOHC, 2 valve, 124cc engine that churns out 8.58 BHP of power and 10.2Nm of peak torque. The new Access 125 also comes with kick start and electric start options. 
 
In terms of exterior design, the new Access 125 gets chrome finishing, and a retro styling. On the feature front, it gets longer seat, class leading under-seat storage and optional DC socket. 
 
The 125cc scooter will be offered with Front Disc Brake as an option along with alloy wheels, and is available in 5 colours.

New Delhi, Jan 6 () Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL) on Monday said it has launched its first BS-VI compliant Suzuki Access 125 scooter priced between Rs 64,800 and Rs 69,500 (ex-showroom Delhi).
 The all-new Suzuki Access 125 BS-VI version will be available in standard as well as special variant with alloy drum brake, alloy disc brake and steel drum brake options, SMIPL said in a statement.
 The standard variant of the new BS-VI compliant Suzuki Access 125 will be retailed at price starting Rs 64,800, whereas the special edition will be available at a price starting Rs 68,500 depending on the variant, going up to Rs 69,500 (all prices ex-showroom Delhi), it said. 
 "Suzuki Access 125 is a major contributor to SMIPL's growth story and has received an overwhelming response from our customers. We believe that with the launch of all-new Suzuki Access 125 BS-VI compliant version, we will continue to meet and exceed our customers' expectations," SMIPL Managing Director Koichiro Hirao said.
 He further said the company has introduced the new family scooter ahead of the regulatory timeline and would continue to work toward aligning its product portfolio with the new emission norms.

Suzuki Motorcycle India launches BS-VI version of scooter Access 125, priced up to Rs 69,500

Mumbai, Dec 23 () Suzuki Motorcycle India on Monday announced it will roll out the BS VI-compliant models of its vehicles from next month, with all-new Suzuki Access 125 scooter set to be the first offering to be launched under the new emission norms.
 The domestic automobile industry has to switch cover to Bharat Stage (BS) VI emission regulations from April next year, replacing the existing BSIV norms, 
 Suzuki Motorcycle's top-selling scooter, Access 125, will be the first product to be rolled out as part of the new emission norms from the Indian subsidiary's portfolio, the company said in a release.
 "We are thrilled to announce our first BS6 product way ahead of the regulation enforcement deadline of April 1. For more than a decade now, Suzuki Access 125 has been among the segment's top-selling scooter. The all-new Access 125 comes loaded with new features," said Koichiro Hirao, Managing Director, Suzuki Motorcycle India.
 The BSVI-compliant Suzuki Access 125 will be launched in India soon, the company said in the release.
 The new scooter will come with new key features such as eco assist illumination, fuel injection engine, external fuel filling lid and LED headlamp.
 Besides, the new special edition model will offer standard USB DC socket for charging mobile phones on the go, the company said.

If reports are to be believed, Maruti has bagged a deal of 2,071 Gypsies that it needs to supply to Indian Army. 
 There were reports that Indian Army has picked <keyword id="140499" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mahindra-Scorpio">Mahindra Scorpio</keyword> and <keyword id="595044" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-safari">Tata Safari</keyword> to supply around 3,200 vehicles. 
 
A few officials, on condition of anonymity informed ET that the order under 'GS 500' category was placed a few weeks back and the deliveries will start in next few months. The reports also suggest that Maruti Suzuki will earn Rs 125 crore through the deal. 
 
"This order is part of the earlier tender. However, the company received the order very recently," said one of the sources. "The deliveries will start in the coming few months. There is a continuous discussion with the government for future orders too," he added. 
 A <keyword id="2953201" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki-spokesperson">Maruti Suzuki spokesperson</keyword> confirmed the agreement, but didn’t divulge other particulars of the deal. 
 
Started in 1985, the petrol-run Gypsy was overtaken by diesel-run SUVs long ago. Even after losing its charm in the consumer market, it remained the choicest vehicle of Indian Army and ever since then, it had maintained that stature. 
 
India’s one of the largest carmaker bagged its first order in 1991 and delivered 35,000 Gypsies to Indian Army and also became the single-largest vehicle supplier of Indian Army.

New Delhi, May 4 () Auto stocks on Monday plunged up to 12.5 per cent after top carmakers, including Maruti Suzuki reported zero monthly domestic sales for the first time ever in April after the nationwide lockdown halted output and shut sales network. Shares of Motherson Sumi Systems plummeted 12.51 per cent, Tata Motors tanked 9.88 per cent, Maruti Suzuki India 8.75 per cent, Apollo Tyres 7.69 per cent and Hero MotoCorp 7.61 per cent on the BSE. Bajaj Auto dropped 7.12 per cent, Eicher Motors 6.45 per cent, Ashok Leyland tumbled 5.73 per cent, TVS Motor Company 5.20 per cent and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra 2.66 per cent. The BSE Auto index fell by 6.88 per cent. Maruti Suzuki India, Hyundai Motor India Ltd, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Toyota Kirloskar Motor and MG Motor India reported nil sales as they suspended operations even before the imposition of lockdown on March 25, to check the spread of coronavirus. Maruti Suzuki, which produces more than half of the cars running on Indian roads, said it did not sell any vehicle in the domestic market in April. Homegrown automaker M&amp;M also reported zero sales of passenger and commercial vehicles in the domestic market. In two-wheeler segment, niche bike maker Royal Enfield said it had zero sales in the domestic market. Mumbai, Feb 19 () Maxxis India on Wednesday said it has partnered Yamaha for supplying tyres in India and plans to corner at least 15 per cent of the country's two-wheeler tyre market in the next five years. Maxxis India, which is a part of the Taiwan-based Maxxis Group, already has similar tie-ups with Hero MotoCorp and Honda Motorcycle &amp; Scooter India. As part of the tie-up, Yamaha's 125 cc BSVI- compliant Ray ZR and Fascino range of scooters as well as BSVI-compliant model of Ray ZR Street Rally 125 FI will come fitted with Maxxis tyres, a company release said. The company has already started production of tyres with particular specifications to cater to the requirement for both range of scooters, it said. Maxxis India plans to corner at least 15 per cent of the demand by 2023. "As we begin our 5th year of operations in India, this association will further strengthen our portfolio for scooter tyres in India. We are hopeful that the relationship will help us create a new market for Maxxis Tyres and penetrate deeper in rural markets," Bing-Lin Wu, Marketing Head, Maxxis India said. As a part of this association, Maxxis Tyres will be available at select Yamaha and Maxxis dealerships across India, the company said, adding, the tyres will be an Original Equipment (OE) fitment to Yamaha scooters. The partnership will give help to capture 15 per cent of India's two-wheeler tyre market within five years, Maxxis India said. India market is touted to play a vital role in achieving Maxxis's global vision to become one of the top five tyre manufactures in the world by 2026, it said. Apart from catering to the domestic tyre market, the product portfolio from the Sanand facility will be exported to South Asia and will further expand to Africa and Middle East countries in the coming years, as per the company, which also has plans to set up five more plants in the country, which will also cater to the four-wheeler tyres market. Maxxis India' Sanand manufacturing facility in Gujarat has a capacity to produce around 20,000 tyres and 40,000 tubes per day. Accordingly, the first shipment of 184 units left from <keyword id="46519" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mundra-Port">Mundra port</keyword> to Latin American countries such as Columbia and Peru. Besides, the three-door <keyword id="6610627" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="suzuki-jimny">Suzuki Jimny</keyword> will also be exported to the Middle East and African markets from India, the company said on Wednesday. The current generation of Jimny was launched in 2018 by <keyword id="100743" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suzuki-Motor-Corporation">Suzuki Motor Corporation</keyword> in Japan. The all-terrain vehicle has a legacy of over 50 years, catering to customers worldwide. A Rare Look Inside The $8.3 Billion Construction Project Below Grand Central Terminal

NEW DELHI: <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> India Ltd (MSIL) has appointed two local investment bankers — Kotak Mahindra Capital and Axis Capital — as the company seeks to persuade minority investors to back a controversial plan that calls for the carmaker's proposed Gujarat factory to be set up by parent <keyword id="200508" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suzuki-Motor-Corp-">Suzuki Motor Corp.</keyword> 
 Maruti <keyword id="6911" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="suzuki">Suzuki</keyword>'s manufacturing will be contracted to the plant in a practice that some experts say is unusual for the industry. The move has been opposed by some shareholders who believe it will undermine the Indian unit and divert income to the parent. 
 
Maruti Suzuki is seeking minority shareholder approval under Section 188 of the Companies Act for the special resolution related to the plan. It needs the support of at least three-fourths of its public shareholders to get the proposal passed, which in effect means a bloc with an 11% stake can block the resolution. 
 <keyword id="111052" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suzuki-Motor">Suzuki Motor</keyword> owns a 56.21% stake in MSIL, with the rest being held by the public. The investment bankers won't have any role in trying to sway investors, a Maruti Suzuki spokesperson said by email. They "have not been appointed to convince the institutional investors — domestic or foreign — to vote in favour of the Gujarat project structure," he said. That's being done by a Maruti Suzuki team led by chairman RC Bhargava and managing director and CEO Kenichi Ayukawa, he said. 
 
"The investment bankers are required to identify the investors in various parts of the world, arrange the meetings with them and the necessary logistical support. They are also involved in discussions with MSIL in finalizing the presentations and strategy for the discussions," he said. 
 
The margin of victory needed to get the plan approved came in for some questioning. "The new law requires that the proposal be passed by a special resolution. It is not clear why 26% of minority shareholders should be able to override 74% of minority shareholders in a vote where the promoter is not voting," the spokesperson said. 
 
After strong concerns were raised by domestic institutional investors over the issue, all eyes are now on Life Insurance Corp. (LIC) of India that owns a 6.63% stake in Maruti Suzuki. Domestic mutual funds, which together own a 6.16% stake in Maruti Suzuki, have already opposed the plan. 
 
In case LIC joins hands with them, the combined holding of those against the move would cross 12%, enough to block the resolution. "Given the stance taken by LIC in the case of Cairn India depositing $1.25 billion (Rs 7,500 crore) with its parent Sesa Sterlite, there is all likelihood that the largest Indian institutional investor is likely to oppose the proposal," said the head of one of the mutual funds. 
 
Maruti Suzuki pointed out that the objections by the domestic funds predate changes to the plan. "The letter was written before the March modifications to the original structure," the spokesperson said. "After the March modifications, no one has written to us conveying any concerns about the proposal." 
 
A senior LIC official, who didn't want to be named, said, "LIC has always worked to protect the interests of investors and this case will not be any different." Some believe the state-owned insurer may not oppose the plan. "The feedback we have received that it would support the proposed structure," said another mutual fund head. 
 Incidentally, Suzuki Motor chairman Osamu Suzuki met Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> last week. Mutual fund representatives said the appointment of investment bankers is also aimed at gauging the pulse of investors. In case they're not able to convince more than three-fourths of public shareholders, Maruti Suzuki may revisit its plan to seek shareholder approval. 
 
The next annual general meeting is set for September 4, but the proposal is not on the agenda. "We would not be ready for the vote on this matter by September 4, as we would not have completed our meetings with all investors in India and abroad," said the spokesperson. 
 
The resolution will be taken up at a later time. "The company plans to have a separate shareholders' meeting sometime later this year, which will be contingent upon the ongoing exercise to bring large investors on its side," said a fund manager. 
 
If the Maruti Suzuki plan goes ahead, it could set a precedent. Many promoters of listed companies would prefer to follow the same route that will result in destroying shareholder value, said a senior executive at an insurance company. 
 
"This opens up the door to every single promoter converting their listed company into a marketing arm. Will they now set up manufacturing outfits as 100% owned entities that sell through the listed company?" said Amit Tandon, CEO of Institutional Investor Advisory Services. "On what basis will companies be valued? And where does this end?" 
 
In March, a group of 19 leading domestic institutional investors that includes HDFC Mutual Fund, Birla Sun Life, ICICI Prudential, Reliance Mutual Fund, UTI SBI Mutual Fund and Axis Bank Mutual Fund among others wrote to Maruti Suzuki raising serious concern over the transaction. 
 
"As a policy, we don't comment on market rumours or speculations, hence we would not like to comment on this," said an Axis Bank official. Kotak did not reply to ET's queries. Under the proposed transaction, Suzuki Motor plans to set up the Gujarat project as part of its whollyowned subsidiary, Suzuki Motor Gujarat Pvt (SMG), which in turn will enter into an exclusive long-term contract manufacturing agreement with Maruti Suzuki. 
 
The contract manufacturing agreement would initially be for 15 years and will be automatically extended for a further 15 unless the parties mutually agree to terminate it. 
 
Maruti Suzuki said this would allow it to save on the investment required for setting up the plant to the extent of the equity investment made by Suzuki Motor in SMG. However, the fund managers said Maruti Suzuki is a debt-free company with cash and investments worth Rs 8,000 crore, which earns less than 10% annually, compared with the 20% return on equity. 
 
"Why should idle money not be invested in equity with clear visibility of business," said a fund manager. Maruti Suzuki is confident of gaining the support of stakeholders. "We believe that the financial benefits to minority shareholders are so obvious and large, that the vote would support the proposed structure," the spokesperson said.
