The patient was discharged on Monday night after showing the sign of recovery. Talking to IANS, Dr <keyword id="71605" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="suresh-kumar" source="Orion">Suresh Kumar</keyword>, MD, LNJP Hospital said, "We have discharged the patient which was the first case of monkeypox in the capital city. The man recovered total in 25 days." <keyword id="8683182" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="dr-kumar" source="Orion">Dr Kumar</keyword> said that it is an achievement for the hospital. "I want to congratulate the team of our doctors involved in the treatment of monkeypox infection. They worked hard day and night and the patient got cured," he said. The patient, who has been discharged, belongs to Delhi and had a travel history to Himachal Pradesh. Before being admitted in the hospital, he was ill for the last 15 days with fever and skin problems, said Dr Kumar. The patient was admitted to the hospital for 11 days. His initial two reports were positive, but the third report came negative after which he was discharged from the hospital. Meanwhile, one more suspected of monkeypox infections was admitted to the hospital last night. Presently, the nodal hospital for the monkeypox treatment, LNJP hospital has total three cases, which includes two suspected and one confirmed. Delhi's 1st monkeypox patient recovers, discharged from hospital

Meanwhile, the state education department has postponed the evaluation of the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (<keyword id="63505" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="SSLC">SSLC</keyword>) board exam papers for class 10 students from Monday in Bengaluru urban and rural districts in view of the lockdown across the city from July 15 to July 22 to contain the virus spread. "Evaluation in the remaining 28 districts across the southern state will continue as per the lockdown guidelines to ensure the safety and health of the teachers-turned evaluators," a board official told IANS. Around 8.5 lakh students appeared for the board exams across the state from June 25 to July 3 braving the corona virus scare and its spread. "SSLC board exams results will be declared in early August," added Kumar. Karnataka PUC board exam dates likely to be announced tomorrow

Two students <keyword id="3129376" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Malav-Sanghavi">Malav Sanghavi</keyword> and <keyword id="201800" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mustafa">Mustafa</keyword> Khanwala made India proud as they were featured in the top 10 of the London Mayor's 2016 recently concluded innovation competition, thanks to their stunning innovations. 
 
Malav was the highest ranked Indian grabbing the fifth spot followed by Mustafa in 10th position. While Malav designed a smart amputee socket which can be adjusted via an app to suit the individual’s needs, Musatafa produced an app that stops queuing in shops, allowing one to immediately pay for goods and services. The other two Indian entries in the competition were by: 
 <keyword id="71605" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Suresh-Kumar">Suresh Kumar</keyword> - Idea: An app to help educate stroke victims. It is programmed to make use of every day things, such as sarees. 
 
Surabhi Mittal- Idea: He designed a tea set made of papier-mache. It is an attempt to revive handmade crafts in the era where everything is prepared in industries. Surabhi's idea was commended by panelists. 
 The top prize was claimed by Italian origin Luca Alessandrini, a post-graduate from <keyword id="108001" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Imperial-College-London">Imperial College London</keyword>, who beat hundreds of other entries from 49 different countries and 17 universities, with a violin which is made from a mixture of spider silk and resin. He won 10,000 pounds top prize in the competition. 
 Mayor of London <keyword id="6518726" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sadiq-Khan">Sadiq Khan</keyword> said, "The incredible range of talent on show in these awards celebrates the best of the capital and clearly demonstrates that London is open to talent and ideas from across the globe." 
 
"We need to do all we can to ensure that London remains the best and most welcoming destination for international students," he said. 
 
The awards were set up to highlight the work of the city's international students and also to provide some financial help to assist students in taking their innovation to the next stage of development. 
 
It was devised by London and Partners, the Mayor's official promotional company and is also supported by the UK Government's Education is GREAT campaign and the British Council, Cambridge English, IDP Education and The PIE.

Meet the two Indian students who are among the top 10 winners of London Innovation Awards

TN <keyword id="71605" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Suresh-Kumar">Suresh Kumar</keyword>, a <keyword id="196098" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="senior-scientist">senior scientist</keyword> working at the <keyword id="116095" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-Space-Research-Organisation">Indian Space Research Organisation</keyword>’s master control facility in Hassan, has become the first Indian to go on a tour of the stratosphere, the edge of space. 
 The stratosphere is the second major layer of Earth's <keyword id="6366415" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="atmosphere">atmosphere</keyword>, just above the troposphere, and below the mesosphere. It is stratified in temperature, with warmer layers higher up and cooler layers farther down. 
 The scientist, who is an avid traveller, paid a sum of Rs. 15 lakh for the travel and took the journey from an agency conducting space travel — Country of Tourism Ltd — in <keyword id="6358826" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Russia">Russia</keyword>, which started the journey called 'Edge of Space' six years ago. He travelled to an altitude of 17,100 metres in a MIG 29 from Sokol Airbase. 
 
"Besides me there was a pilot on the flight. I always wanted to take the Indian flag to space and so I deliberately undertook the journey on August 15. Besides the flag, I also took my mother's photo with me. It was very expensive but nothing can be compared to the thrill that I got. After the space journey, I went on a trans-Siberain tour and returned three days back," said Kumar. 
 
Describing the journey he said: "It was a 48 minute flight but we were at the edge of space only for one minute." 
 "It was in late 1985, I was one of the astronauts short listed to go to space but unfortunately the programme was dropped due to explosion of the <keyword id="1203955" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="space-shuttle-Challenger">space shuttle Challenger</keyword> in February 1986. This was a great disappointment for me. But it set a new goal for me to <keyword id="30450" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Touch">touch</keyword> all the continents of the globe," he added. 
 
Revealing plans for his next mission, Kumar said: "I am planning to undertake the zero gravity flight from Russia in February next year."

"It also ties into some of the things that you find in the report which is immediacy, speed, instant gratification, especially with Gen Z, including my own daughters. The Pre-Budget Meeting is organised by the Ministry of Finance and Corporate Affairs with Finance Ministers of all the States and Union Territories (with Legislature) to take suggestions for the upcoming <keyword id="20387181" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-Budget-2024-25" source="keywords">Union Budget 2024-25</keyword>. Ministers of State along with other stakeholders are participating in the meeting and visuals showed Uttar Pradesh finance minister Suresh Kumar Khanna, and finance minister of Rajasthan Diya Kumari at the Bharat Mandapam venue before the meeting commenced this morning. The Union Finance Ministry had begun consultations on the budget a few days ago with different stakeholders of economy. Sitharaman has met economists, finance and capital market experts and industry bodies. Sitharaman chaired the first pre-budget consultations with leading economists on June 19. The meeting was attended by Union minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, the finance secretary, secretaries of the departments of economic affairs, revenue, financial services and corporate affairs and the chief economic adviser. Meanwhile, Sitharaman will also chair the 53rd <keyword id="19922145" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Goods-and-Services-Tax" source="keywords">Goods and Services Tax</keyword> (GST) Council Meeting scheduled in the second half of the day. A division bench of Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Neena Bansal Krishna directed the Transport Department to refrain from taking any coercive measures against Rapido and other ride-sharing platforms until a comprehensive policy is formulated. In February, the app-based aggregators were prevented from plying bike taxis on the road without commercial permits. The Transport Department, ordering an immediate halt to the bike taxi services provided by these platforms, had warned that any violation will result in penal action. The public notice by the Transport Department said that the companies defying the orders will be fined up to Rs 1 lakh, as the use of bikes for commercial purposes violated the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Following the High Court decision, Uber has expressed its gratitude towards the court's order providing protection to the company against coercive actions regarding its bike taxi service in the capital city. "We welcome the High Court's order to give Uber protection from coercive action on bike taxis in Delhi. This will bring relief to drivers on our platform whose livelihood had been impacted by the ban as also to the hundreds and thousands of riders who choose to ride on Moto for affordability and last mile connectivity. We are committed to serving the city and being the platform of choice for riders and drivers alike," said Uber in a statement. Relief for ride-sharing platforms as Delhi HC put stays on Transport Department notice

For Walmart, it's also a return to what it knows and what helped build it into the world's largest retailer: centralized control. Founder Sam Walton famously <a target="_blank" href="https://www.freightwaves.com/news/how-walmart-uses-trucking-to-dominate-american-retail">built his own logistics network</a> from the ground up to avoid relying on another carrier to serve his sprawling empire of stores. And the company has reportedly regularly flown senior <a target="_blank" href="https://financialpost.com/executive/in-defense-of-the-ever-unpopular-corporate-aircraft-joe-nocera#:~:text=Its%20former%20director%20of%20global,from%20having%20to%20stay%20overnight.">executives on corporate jets</a> from its Arkansas HQ to regions of the country where their stores are located, helping them, in some cases, avoid staying overnight.Now, the retailer is requiring hundreds of previously remote employees to move within commuting distance of the company's Bentonville, Arkansas, main office or hubs near New York and San Francisco."It's a reversion to what Walmart was known for a few years ago," said Nelson Lichtenstein, a research professor in the history department at the University of California, Santa Barbara, who focuses on labor and has studied Walmart. "They were, in a way, very centralized. She wrote that working in an office would help workers collaborate, innovate, and "move even faster." Walmart didn't comment further to BI at the time.Morris' memo also hinted that the decision was years in coming, referring to a February 2022 move to bring Home Office employees back into the offices after pandemic lockdowns. Still, some employees continued working remotely, and several satellite offices remained open in cities like Atlanta, Dallas, Toronto, and Seattle.Of course, Walmart has invested heavily in having more people come to work in-person in Bentonville. Opening in phases through 2025, the company's new 350-acre campus will feature modern offices, restaurants, childcare facilities, a hotel, bike paths, and multiple lakes.<h2 id="bfde61e9-3675-4942-a90d-6c2245cca6bf">A new normal</h2>The company's decision also represents an about-face from just a few years ago when Suresh Kumar, Walmart's global chief technology officer, wrote on LinkedIn about a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/posts/suresh-kumar-cto_virtualwork-remotework-activity-6705170306132262912-EoDF?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop">shift toward remote work</a> for Walmart Global Tech. "We believe the future in tech will be one in which working virtually will be the new normal, at least for most of the work we lead," Kumar wrote in 2021. Following the layoff news, Kelli Oakes <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/posts/kelli-oakes_well-the-cats-outta-the-bag-as-reported-activity-7196164356512927744-mDMI/?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop">wrote on LinkedIn</a> that she'd lost her finance recruiter job for Walmart and Sam's Club after having been hired as a permanently remote worker nearly three years ago."I'm devastated, embarrassed, sad, angry, defeated, and hurt," Oakes wrote. She said the company offered her the chance to apply for a new job in Bentonville, the Bay Area, or Hoboken, New Jersey. "Truthfully, after a home purchase and life-threatening post-birth complications, my family cannot afford to relocate now or in the near future," Oakes wrote. She said she'd returned from maternity leave two months ago and purchased a home in South Carolina eight months ago.Even workers whose jobs are technically safe from cuts are having to weigh the cost of uprooting their lives to move to Northwest Arkansas or an expensive coastal city.<h2 id="2f9cc7e5-155d-4d69-9fa7-f24eada5597d">It's not all about quiet firing</h2>One remote worker told BI he and several colleagues were offered "generous" relocation packages to move to the Bay Area, but accepting one would take him away from his family and result in a more than 50% increase in the cost of living. He asked BI not to use his name as he is still employed and not authorized to speak to the media. A recent survey of big-company US CEOs found about one-third expect their workers will be back in the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hybrid-work-here-to-stay-ceos-rto-remote-2024-4">office five days a week</a> in the next three years. The study by KMPG US a year earlier found that nearly two-thirds of CEOs thought offices would be full every weekday. Yet not all workers are happy about resuming — or starting — a commute. A recent poll by the resarch firm Gartner found that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/senior-level-job-seekers-quit-over-return-to-office-requirement-2024-5">return-to-office mandates</a> were a factor in pushing 36% of workers seeing senior-level jobs to look for a new role. For the remote worker BI spoke with, the next few weeks will be filled with uncertainty."I don't have a problem going to an office, but to be forced to leave family, pack up, and move, all in such a short timeframe," he said. Walmart will pay the transfer costs for those who decide to move."The unique culture and values of Walmart are at the core of who we are – to our customers, members, associates and partners," Munroe said in an email. "With this in mind, we've made the decision to focus our tech team's presence within select locations. We hope to relocate all affected associates."The retailer is also cutting back on remote work for tech staff.
