10 things you need to know before the opening bell

New Delhi, Mar 8 () State-owned Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) is in talks with the Indian Railways for an order to supply about 15.5 lakh tonnes of rail in the next financial year, a company official said. SAIL, under the steel ministry, is the country's largest steel-making company and as per an agreement, it supplies rails to Indian Railways. The Indian Railways had placed an order with SAIL for supply of 13.5 lakh tonne rails in the current financial year. Till February 29, the company produced 11.65 lakh tonne rails, according to SAIL. On asked about the Railways' order for 2020-21, the official said the company expects an order of 15.5 lakh tonne rails in the next financial year for which it is in talks with the Railways. A source said that generally, the Railways places its order by the last week of March or in the first week of April. Replying to an e-mail query sent to SAIL, the company said that "it has not received the order for rails for the financial year 2020-21 from the Indian Railways yet. However, SAIL is geared up to fulfil any order, which will be placed by the Indian Railways". According to official data, in 2018-19, SAIL supplied 9.68 lakh tonnes of rails as against the demand of about 14 lakh tonnes. In the previous year, the public sector undertaking supplied 8.74 lakh tonnes as against the demand of 11.4 lakh tonnes. During 2016-17, SAIL supplied 6.20 lakh tonnes as against the Railways' requirement of 10.05 lakh tonnes. In the preceding financial year, the steel maker supplied 6.46 lakh tonnes against the order of 8.12 lakh tonne. Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had earlier said that as part of the modernisation and expansion plan of SAIL, a 1.2-MTPA (million tonnes per annum) universal rail mill has been installed at the Bhilai plant to enhance the manufacturing capabilities of rails to cope with the increasing demand of Railways. SAIL, Railways in talks for 15.5 lakh tonne rail order

<ul class="summary-list"><li>President-elect <keyword id="99719" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Joe-Biden">Joe Biden</keyword> plans to release all available <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> vaccine doses when he takes office on January 20, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/08/politics/biden-vaccine-strategy/index.html">CNN reported</a>. </li><li>The <keyword id="3798493" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="trump-administration">Trump administration</keyword> is currently holding back half the supply to guarantee there will be enough for two shots per person.</li><li>But some public-health experts say the US could be more generous with the current supply, since vaccine production is unlikely to grind to a halt.</li></ul>US officials faced a difficult choice when vaccine rollout began: They could either get as many doses as possible into arms right away, or hold back enough to make sure everyone who received a first shot would be guaranteed their second. The Trump administration opted for the latter approach. "The President-elect believes we must accelerate distribution of the vaccine while continuing to ensure the Americans who need it most get it as soon as possible," TJ Ducklo, a spokesman for Biden's transition, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/08/politics/biden-vaccine-strategy/index.html">told CNN</a>. "He supports releasing available doses immediately, and believes the government should stop holding back vaccine supply so we can get more shots in Americans' arms now."The strategy could hit the same roadblocks the current distribution process has, however. State health departments are simultaneously struggling with a tsunami of coronavirus patients while <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/us-not-prepared-next-phase-coronavirus-vaccinations-2020-12">overseeing a giant vaccine rollout</a>. Many health departments lack the staff to administer shots in large batches, so the arrival of even more doses may pose an additional challenge.As of Thursday, the US still hadn't administered 15.5 million of the 21.4 million doses that have been distributed so far, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention."At this time, suggesting changes to the FDA-authorized dosing or schedules of these vaccines is premature and not rooted solidly in the available evidence," Stephen Hahn, the FDA commissioner, and Dr. Peter Marks, director of the FDA's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/08/politics/biden-vaccine-strategy/index.html">told CNN</a> in a statement. "Without appropriate data supporting such changes in vaccine administration, we run a significant risk of placing public health at risk, undermining the historic vaccination efforts to protect the population from COVID-19."<h2>The benefits of a riskier strategy </h2><div type="image" title="line vaccine coronavirus" height="2000" width="3000" msid="80180287" hostid="261"></div>In the UK, officials have decided to delay second doses for up to 12 weeks in order to administer as many first doses as possible. The UK aims to give out 2 million shots per week by the end of January, the <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/health-55274833">BBC reported</a>. So far, only 1.5 million people in the UK have been vaccinated.Biden's strategy is different. He doesn't intend to extend the window between the two doses. Instead, he's assuming that manufacturing and pharmaceutical companies will continuously deliver more doses in accordance with their contracts.By contrast, federal officials and members of an FDA advisory committee are currently "planning for a scenario where we can not produce a single dose of a vaccine for months because we have a disaster," Dr. Ashish Jha, dean of Brown University's School of Public Health, told Business Insider. "That can't possibly be our scenario that we plan for," he said. By the end of July, the company expects to have <a href="https://www.pfizer.com/news/press-release/press-release-detail/pfizer-and-biontech-supply-us-100-million-additional-doses#:~:text=The%20companies%20expect%20to%20deliver,the%20additional%20100%20million%20doses.">delivered all 200 million doses</a> purchased.Moderna, meanwhile, expects to <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-12-17/moderna-ditches-400-000-vaccine-doses-but-still-set-to-meet-goal">deliver 85 to 100 million doses</a> to the US in the first quarter of 2021, with the goal of delivering all 200 million purchased by the federal government by the end of June."We can make some hedges that say we should hold some doses back, but assume that our production is not going to completely collapse for months and months," Jha said.<div type="image" title="Coronavirus vaccine" height="1333" width="2000" msid="80180290" hostid="261"></div>A <a href="https://www.acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/M20-8137">recent study</a> published in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that distributing as many first doses as possible would help the US prevent more natural infections. So far, the US is vaccinating around 1.5 million people per week. But the study found that if the US supplied 6 million doses per week over eight weeks, and withheld just 10% of the doses for the first three of those weeks, the nation could reduce coronavirus cases by 29%. "We find that under most plausible scenarios, a more balanced approach that withholds fewer doses during early distribution in order to vaccinate more people as soon as possible could substantially increase the benefits of vaccines, while enabling most recipients to receive second doses on schedule," the researchers wrote.Federal officials are also hoping that <keyword id="92247" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Johnson-Johnson">Johnson &amp; Johnson</keyword>'s one-dose shot could <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-vaccine-tracker-top-covid-shots-to-watch-in-2021">get US authorization next month</a>. Biden plans to release the entire coronavirus vaccine supply instead of reserving half to guarantee second doses

The <keyword id="6354416" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indian-Army">Indian Army</keyword> would place an order worth Rs 1, 200 crore to get <keyword id="6358373" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="dhanush">Dhanush</keyword> artillery guns after their confirmatory trials are over early next year, reported PTI. 

	According to defence sources, if the confirmatory test of the indigenously-developed guns comes out as positive, it will pave the way for Bulk Production Clearance (BPC).
 Under the first phase, the army will place an order for 114 such guns with the <keyword id="498182" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Ordnance-Factories-Board">Ordnance Factories Board</keyword>. 

	"The confirmatory trials are going on after and if they prove to be successful, the guns will go in for bulk production for the army," sources told PTI. 
 

	The Gun Carriage Factory, Jabalpur, plans to supply 6 guns within 6 months, another 12 within the next one year before ramping up the production.
 It is important to know that Dhanush would be the first artillery gun to be acquired by the Indian Army since the purchase of Bofors guns from <keyword id="23050" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sweden">Sweden</keyword> in 1987. 

	It is a modified version of the Bofors and already underwent winter trials in 2013 and summer trials in 2014. 
 Earlier this year, Defence Minister <keyword id="6363133" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Manohar-Parrikar">Manohar Parrikar</keyword> said the test for the 155/45mm caliber Dhanush gun was successful. 

	According to sources, minor changes were done following the trials, following which the confirmation trials have begun.

The video, titled "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GowAi4fAEJA">How To: Underside Braid to Bun,</a>" launched Riihimaki's seven-year career on YouTube."I've been crafty since day one," she told Business Insider. "I was an only child so crafting was my go-to thing growing up. I also had this passion from day one that I always wanted something custom and I would spend hours and hours decorating the covers of my binders, just because I liked having something that was unique." In 2012, Riihimaki attended a university in Toronto and enrolled in a printing program. But it wasn't as creative as she envisioned it to be, she said. That's when she started a blog, and shortly after, a YouTube channel.She filmed that first YouTube video using the photo booth application on a her 2010 MacBook, which she propped up using a stack of textbooks, she said. "Things have changed since then," she said. "I was getting the creativity that I think I missed from grade 12 art class. Going into university, everything was so different and I had this void I wanted to fill." Since then, Riihimaki, 26, has built a massive community through her success on YouTube. She has 8.9 million subscribers, which she calls her "<a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23prettylittlelaurs&amp;src=hashtag_click">#prettylittlelaur fam,"</a> 5 million followers on Instagram, a merchandise line, products sold at Target, and an Amazon shop. She's collaborated with dozens of brands.Riihimaki will also be <a href="https://variety.com/2019/tv/news/hbo-max-michelle-khare-laurdiy-1203364810/">hosting a children's crafting competition show for HBO Ma</a>x, breaking into traditional media in a way that few influencers have. <h2>Building an empire through YouTube, from Sun-DIY to search </h2>"I told people, but I wasn't advertising it," she said about her YouTube channel when she was starting out. "But, it wasn't a big secret." Riihimaki's roommates, friends, and family knew about her side hobby, and she said her friends were interested in helping in any way they could. "I feel like a lot of creators have a viral video that shoots them into their stardom," she said. "But, I was more along the lines of just a gradual incline of growth because I've always been really consistent with uploading." Riihimaki uploaded weekly, creating the phrase, "Sun-DIY," indicating that Sunday was the day she would post a video. As a college student, picking one day helped her organize between her school work and YouTube, she said."I got really lucky because I feel like a lot of creators have to choose between finishing school or following YouTube," she said, and added that she worked traditional jobs all the way up until the day she graduated, which was when she felt confident enough to pursue YouTube full time.Riihimaki's DIY content on YouTube does well through search, she said, and that has played a major role in her growth. She films videos like testing viral DIYs (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4PcEwisOAg">11.6 million views</a>), crafting back-to-school supplies (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DAw2GCkgp8">6 million views</a>), and DIY Halloween costumes (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6VCo5_Fq70">6 million views</a>). Around her second year, Riihimaki signed with <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/top-talent-managers-of-youtube-creators-influencers-power-list-2019-10#select-management-group-charley-button-lisa-filipelli-scott-fischer-mike-jezusko-fred-johnson-caroline-nardilla-amy-neben-alex-rocca-and-adam-wescott-14">Select Management Group</a> and has been working with the same manager since (<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/top-talent-managers-of-youtube-creators-influencers-power-list-2019-10#select-management-group-charley-button-lisa-filipelli-scott-fischer-mike-jezusko-fred-johnson-caroline-nardilla-amy-neben-alex-rocca-and-adam-wescott-14">Scott Fisher)</a>. Managers help their clients diversify their online brands and build lasting partnerships with companies through influencer marketing campaigns. They also often assist their clients in developing consumer products and merchandise, which has been popular among influencers in 2019.With Select, Riihimaki has developed partnerships with companies like Target, Forever 21, and Walmart Canada. <h2>Shop LaurDIY: bedding, clothing, and craft kits at Target</h2>Through licensing her brand, Riihimaki now sells DIY crafting kits at Target and Walmart Canada, and a bedding line with the brand Jay Franco sold on Amazon. She said she has also expanded her business by finding brands she's passionate about to invest in and by collaborating with different brands through sponsorships."It's a really great place to be an entrepreneur right now," Riihimaki said of YouTube. "Something that's unique to a YouTube influencer is that any business that you might want to start or branch off your brand, you can bring your subscribers along for the whole journey. Which is very nontraditional I feel like." Riihimaki said YouTube influencers have the opportunity to bring their followers along, like if they were creating a bracelet (Riihimaki recently collaborated with the bracelet company Pura Vida), influencers can include their followers in the production process - sharing picking out colors, beads, and styles to social media. "It's a very millennial element of business," she said, and added that creating a product for a specific audience in mind is about feedback and listening to what her audience wants.Riihimaki sells her merchandise through the company Mad Merch and began working with them in 2018. She sells T-shirts, a phone case, necklace, and plush toy of her dog Moose. "She is very involved in the entire process, being concerned with the look and feel of her brand and providing feedback every step of the way," said Mark Encinias, vice president of Mad Merch.<h2>'Being an influencer and creator can be a 24/7 job if you want it to be'</h2>Riihimaki said creators on YouTube need to find balance and separation between work and life. "The struggle I think that a lot of creators have is that YouTube and being an influencer and creator can be a 24/7 job if you want it to be," she said. She said she tries to keep her conferences, meetings, and calls within the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but when it comes to social media, there's really no set boundaries. "I would say there are two types of days," she said. "The creative day where it's either going around and getting the DIY supplies, brainstorming video ideas, and filming the actual video." With her DIY videos, there can sometimes be multiple steps to a craft, so filming one video can span across a few days. The other days of her week are more management and analytical, looking at how a video performed, subscriber feedback, seeing what viewers liked and didn't like about a video.Quarterly, Riihimaki sits down with her YouTube partner manager - a point person YouTube assigns to check in with top creators - to talk about what's been working and what hasn't. They look at when viewers are clicking off from a video and dropping off. Her manager will summarize points and give feedback based on the data that YouTube provides its creators on the creator studio page. "I think the biggest thing too is knowing when I need to hire someone new on my team to delegate a task," she said. 1. The lone economic data point out of the U.S. was the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/nahb-housing-market-index-august-18-2014-2014-8">National Association of Homebuilders' latest homebuilder confidence survey</a>, which showed the headline index climbing to 55 in July from 53 in June. This reading, which was a seven-month high for the index, also topped expectations for a reading of 54. "Homebuilder sentiment stands only three points below where it stood a year ago. History suggests that the index of future single-family sales is a reasonable gauge of start activity six months ahead. We view this report as consistent with our outlook that improved sentiment should support start activity in the coming quarters," said Barclays' Michael Gapen.
2. In mergers and acquisitions news, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/r-dollar-general-makes-counter-bid-for-family-dollar--2014-18">Dollar General made a $9.7 billion bid</a> for Family Dollar that topped the $8.95 billion offer made in late July by Dollar Tree. Dollar General's offer sent shares of Family Dollar up 5% to more than $78.50 per share value implied in its offer, indicating that investors think an even higher offer for Family Dollar could materialize. 
3. Shares of TASER International <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/taser-shares-rally-on-expectations-for-camera-demand-2014-8">were up more than 5%</a> after gaining more than 9% on Friday as investors view the situation in Ferguson as a catalyst for increased orders of TASER's wearable police cameras.
4. Procter &amp; Gamble, which <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/procter-and-gamble-selling-100-brands-2014-8">last month said</a> it would divest up to 100 of its brands, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/r-pg-eyes-duracell-braun-in-sweeping-brand-culling-sources-2014-18">is likely to offload its Duracell</a> and Braun brands, according to a Reuters report. Duracell, which is the world's best-selling battery brand, has estimated annual earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, or EBITDA, of $500 million. 
5. Palladium <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/palladium-just-hit-a-13-year-high-2014-8">prices hit a 13-year high</a> of $900 per troy ounce, as investors make bets that sanctions against Russia will limit global supply of the "white metal." Use of palladium is concentrated in the auto industry, and in a recent note to clients, Morgan Stanley's Adam Longson said prices are likely to be supported for some time due to expectations of reduced supply. 
6. Goldman Sachs expects the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/goldman-sees-sp-500-gaining-6-in-12-months-2014-8">S&amp;P 500 to return 6% </a>over the next twelve months ahead of the Federal Reserve's first anticipated interest rate increase. "Markets do not always follow historical patterns," Goldman's David Kostin and his equity strategy team write, "but we forecast the S&amp;P 500 will rise by 6% during the next 12 months before the expected first Fed hike in 3Q 2015. Stocks also rallied during the year ahead of first Fed tightening actions in 1994, 1999, and 2004. Both micro and macro data suggest the U.S. economy is strengthening."
7. Famed short seller Jim Chanos of Kynikos Associates was a guest on Barry Ritholtz's <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/podcasts/masters-in-business/">Master in Business</a> radio program this weekend on Bloomberg radio, and among other topics Chanos debunked the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/jim-chanos-blows-up-short-selling-beliefs-2014-8">two biggest truisms</a> in short-selling and the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/chanos-corporate-america-is-not-growing-2014-8">stagnant growth in corporate America</a>.
