Total revenue from operations rose to Rs 3,804 crore for the fourth quarter as compared with Rs 3,193 crore in the year-ago period, Eicher Motors said in a regulatory filing. For the year ended March 31, 2023, the company posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 2,914 crore as compared with Rs 1,677 crore in FY22. Total revenue from operations for FY23 increased to Rs 14,442 crore as against Rs 10,298 crore in the 2021-22 fiscal. The company said its board has approved a cash outlay of Rs 1,000 crore for 2023-24. The capital would be utilised for electric vehicle manufacturing facility and product development and new product development under internal combustion engine portfolio. Shares of the company ended 0.25 per cent down at Rs 3,407.05 apiece on the BSE. Eicher Motors Q4 net profit rises 49% to ₹906 crore

"We want to scotch any speculation that may have arisen due to the filing by another airline," it said in a statement, clearly referring to Go First's insolvency. The airline said it is firmly focused on its business and remains in active talks with investors to raise funds. "There is absolutely no question of filing for insolvency. Any rumour regarding the same is completely baseless. We are focussed firmly on reviving our grounded fleet and getting more and more planes back into the air. Elaborating on its roadmap, the company said it has plans to set up its second manufacturing plant in the country, taking its installed capacity to 3 lakh units per annum and roll out new products for the domestic market, including electric vehicles, as part of its five-year business roadmap in the country. MG Motor India plans to dilute majority stakes to local partners

Scientists have developed a new laser-based breathalyser test powered by artificial intelligence (AI) that they say can detect COVID-19 in real-time with excellent accuracy. The team from the University of Colorado (CU) <keyword id="107195" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="boulder" source="Orion">Boulder</keyword> in the US hopes that the frequency comb breathalyser-essentially using laser light to distinguish one molecule from another-could revolutionise medical diagnostics. "Our results demonstrate the promise of breath analysis as an alternative, rapid, non-invasive test for COVID-19 and highlight its remarkable potential for diagnosing diverse conditions and disease states," said study first author <keyword id="17375478" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="qizhong-liang" source="Orion">Qizhong Liang</keyword>, a <keyword id="6435115" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="phd" source="Orion">PhD</keyword> candidate at CU Boulder. "There is a real, foreseeable future in which you could go to the doctor and have your breath measured along with your height and weight...Or you could blow into a mouthpiece integrated into your phone and get information about your health in real-time," said <keyword id="2818533" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="jun-ye" source="Orion">Jun Ye</keyword>, adjoint professor at CU Boulder and senior author of the study published in the Journal of Breath Research. Between May 2021 and January 2022, the research team collected breath samples from 170 CU Boulder students who had, in the previous 48 hours, taken a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, either by submitting a saliva or a nasal sample. Half had tested positive, half negative. Overall, the process took less than one hour from collection to result. When compared to PCR, the gold standard COVID test, breathalyser results matched 85 per cent of the time. For medical diagnostics, accuracy of 80 per cent or greater is considered "excellent". The researchers noted that the accuracy would likely have been higher if the breath and saliva/nasal swab samples were collected at the same time. Unlike a nasal swab, the breathalyser is non-invasive. And unlike a saliva sample, users are not asked to refrain from eating, drinking or smoking before using it, the researchers said. The test doesn't require costly chemicals to break down the sample. And the test could, conceivably, be used on individuals who are not conscious, they said. The breathalyser test consists of a complex array of lasers and mirrors about the size of a banquet table. A breath sample is piped in through a tube as lasers fire invisible mid-infrared light at it at thousands of different frequencies. Dozens of tiny mirrors bounce the light back and forth through the molecules so many times that the light travels about 1.5 miles. Because each kind of molecule absorbs light differently, breath samples with a different molecular make-up cast distinct shadows. The machine can distinguish between those different shadows or absorption patterns, boiling millions of data points down to-in the case of COVID-a simple positive or negative, in a matter of seconds. New AI-powered breathalyser can 'sniff out' Covid in real-time

As per the cause list uploaded on the apex court website, a bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices P S Narasimha and J B Pardiwala is scheduled to hear the pleas. The hearing assumes significance in the wake of media reports that the six-member committee, headed by former apex court judge Justice A M Sapre, constituted for assessing the existing regulatory framework and making recommendations to strengthen the process, has submitted its report to the top court in a sealed cover. Recently, market Regulator SEBI moved the apex court seeking a six-month extension to complete its probe into allegations of stock price manipulation by the Adani group and lapses in regulatory disclosure. In an application moved before the court, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has submitted it needs six more months for ascertaining possible violations related to "misrepresentation of financials, circumvention of regulations and/or fraudulent nature of transactions". "Pass an order extending the time to conclude the investigation as directed by this Court by the common order dated March 2 by a period of 6 months or such other period as this court may deem fit and necessary in the facts and circumstances of the present case," the SEBI plea said. One of the PIL petitioners, advocate Vishal Tiwari, has opposed the SEBI's plea, saying the market regulator has already got sufficient time to inspect, examine, collect and seize relevant documents. The apex court, while defending the setting up of the committee, had said it was appropriate to have a panel of experts in order to protect Indian investors against the volatility of the kind which has been witnessed in the recent past. The court-appointed Justice Sapre panel is to be provided assistance by the Centre and other statutory agencies including the SEBI chairperson. On February 10, the top court had said the interest of Indian investors needs to be protected against market volatility in the backdrop of the rout of the Adani Group stocks and asked the Centre to consider setting up a panel of domain experts headed by a former judge to look at strengthening the regulatory mechanism. The Centre had agreed to the apex court's proposal. Till now, four PILs have been filed in the top court on the issue including by lawyers M L Sharma and Vishal Tiwari and Congress leader Jaya Thakur. The announcement came after a joint meeting held on Thursday, wherein the unions' members were told that they are free to sign the new wage contract. Last month, the Tata Group-owned airline announced a new salary structure for pilots and cabin crew but the staff was disappointed with the revisions. Their main grouse was about promoting captains with more than four years of experience in management. In a communication to all employees including pilots and crew members in April this year, Air India management had said that they announced the revision of their employment contracts and revised compensation for flying staff. "I am reaching directly to our flying staff through this platform as currently there is no recognized union at Air India. This is within the framework of law," said Air India Chief Human Resource Officer Suresh Tripathi, had said in a video message. The airline had said that the contract sent is a compilation of applicable policies and existing rules. Wherever there are differences, their changes are introduced to have a performance and merit-based culture as would be the ask of any world-class and professionally run airline. In the last one year, they have been hearing all the concerns of their flying community through various forums and constant communication, the Air India management said. "Guaranteed flying allowance has moved upwards from existing 20 hours to fixed 40 hours. With our ambitious growth and large aircraft order, we as an organisation are confident to provide you more and more opportunities for flying. The fact remains that at 70 hours of flying, income across the board has increased. We are a productivity-oriented organisation, and anyone who is ready to contribute will grow and prosper," the airline had said. "Our Trainers who would be investing more time in training as we ramp up, have been given a significant increase in pay in the form of both fixed and variable. There is more than 40 per cent increase in the allowance for trainers," it added. Air India said flying allowance rates are one of the highest in the Indian industry, with even higher amounts beyond 40 hours. There used to be a difference in flying rates in the same pilot rank which has been done away with to promote fairness. They have introduced additional compensation during training of command upgrade and conversion training which was not existing earlier. There was not any service reward existing to recognise the contribution of experienced staff. A fixed amount has been added to salaries. "These are all changes we have introduced for the better and to become market competitive, which was a key ask. We have also introduced best-in-class employee insurance and other benefits which were not existing earlier at Air India to support the welfare of our flying staff," the airline's management had said. Its revenue for the quarter rose 10.4% YoY to ₹58,335 crore, once again lower than analyst estimates of ₹59,256 crore. For the full FY23, L&amp;T’s net profit came in at ₹10,471 crore, registering a growth of 21%, while its revenue grew 17% to ₹1.83 lakh crore. The company said that its performance was boosted by strong execution of infrastructure projects as well as robust momentum in the information technology and technology services segment. International revenues constituted 39% of the company’s topline during the quarter, increasing from 33% a year ago. The company’s earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) margin also expanded to 12.3% in Q4 from 11.7% a year ago. For the full year of FY23, L&amp;T’s EBITDA margins shrunk to 11.3% from 11.6% in FY22. The company’s chief financial officer R Shankar Raman blamed it on elevated input materials inflation. “We did an internal assessment and with the way projects are lined up, we expect a 10-12% improvement in the order book in FY24, while revenue growth is expected to be between 12-15%,” Raman said during a post-earnings call, adding that the upcoming general elections in 2024 could have an impact on its orders. The company declared a final dividend of ₹24. The company’s consolidated order book stood at ₹3.99 lakh crore at the end of Q4, with the share of international orders at 28%. “While the impact [of global crises] appears to have been contained, these uncertainties continue to undermine the confidence among consumers and businesses to spend, thereby impacting global growth,” L&amp;T said. Raman maintained that the softness in this segment’s margins is due to the inflationary pressures, but noted that much of the contracts of the company have cost variation clauses built-in, which should help it relieve the inflationary pressures to an extent. On the other hand, the IT &amp; technology services segment reported a growth of 21% YoY to ₹10,645 crore. However, EBITDA margins contracted considerably here too, to 20.7% in Q4, compared to 23.3% a year ago. “The segment margin was impacted mainly due to one-time merger integration expenses in LTIMindtree and elevated employee costs,” the company said, explaining the sharp decline in this segment’s margin during the quarter, noting that 93% of the segment revenue was from international markets.
