While Hou said the likely competitors of Acerpure are Dyson and Korean water purifier brand Coway, globally known for their high-end gadgets, Acerpure India Director Vasudeva G said that in India the brand is building on its existing reputation of being affordable even while offering cutting-edge solutions. "For instance, our 'air circulator' fans are AI enabled and can adjust its speed according to the drop or increase in air temperatures," Vasudeva said. The fan starts from Rs 7,490 in India. Acer launches its consumer electronics brand Acerpure in India

Mobile phone manufacturing companies have cut their local production by 10 to 15% this month so that they can avoid oversupply after the goods and service tax (<keyword id="6354679" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="GST">GST</keyword>) kicks in on July 1. However, distributors are not in the favour of stocking up before they get adequate clarity on GST effects. As per Industry executives, established manufacturers like <keyword id="6354716" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nokia">Nokia</keyword>, <keyword id="71696" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Micromax">Micromax</keyword> and Panasonic etc. have completed their GST registrations, but small traders, around 60% of whom may not have value-added tax (VAT) registrations, would like to be away from the GST net so that they can avoid being taxed. "It's the fear of the unknown with everybody, whether it's a small retailer, distributor or a medium-sized company, because of which dealers are not picking (stock) and primary (production) has dropped about 15% across the board," <keyword id="2459320" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sunil-Vachani">Sunil Vachani</keyword>, executive chairman of Dixon Technologies, which makes phones for <keyword id="6366627" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Intex">Intex</keyword>, Panasonic and <keyword id="1188106" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gionee">Gionee</keyword> told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/economy/policy/phone-companies-cut-production-ahead-of-gst-rollout/articleshow/59344470.cms">ET</a>. As per GST rules, a distributor will get full credit for CVD or excise duty if he has bought the phones directly from a manufacturer or an importer. However, in case the invoice documents are not available, the distributors will get 60% of the deemed credit of the Central GST liability of 6%. "We have told the trade that any price differential will be borne by the company, so they are protected against the transition," said a Nokia spokesperson. However, distributors are still being cautious. "No one wants to take the risk of taking excess inventory and sitting with it despite some brands assuring that price protection will be offered," said another executive.

Phone companies cut production by up to 15% before GST

New Delhi, Apr 22 () Dixon Technologies, a contract manufacturer in electronic goods, expects slow resumption of production due to the lockdown, a top company official on Tuesday. The company, which has two manufacturing units in Noida and Tirupati, is yet to commence production as both the facilities fall into the red zone, where the government has prohibited manufacturing till the lockdown is over. The company also expects an impact on its financial performance as manufacturing activities have been stalled in April and the sector is is expected to come back on its feet only by the second quarter (July-September). "Definitely, there would be an impact because the entire April is gone and in May, by the time, we will start and get ready, it is going to be slow," Dixon Technologies Chairman Sunil Vachani told . According to him, revival of the demand in the appliance and consumer electronics sector would only be possible at the end of the second quarter, when the festive season sale would start. "To come back to the normal position (for the sector), it would be only by the second quarter. It will be slow to start definitely," he added. He, however, pointed out that some clients and customers have said there might be a pick-up in demand for low value ticket items, so in such items "we are hoping to recover much sooner than others." When asked whether the company has started its manufacturing operations, he said approvals are awaited as the units in Noida and Tirupati fall under the red zone. "Once we start manufacturing, the supply chain also has to be smooth. So we are working on it," said Vachani. Besides, he has asked the government to extend the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for the electronics sector to other sectors as well. "We are requesting that the scheme be extended to some other sectors, so that we could look at the global markets in the time to come," said Vachani. Last month, the government had announced PLI worth Rs 40,995 crore for electronics manufacturing companies. Under the scheme, electronic manufacturing firms will get an incentive of 4-6 per cent on incremental sales (over base year) of goods manufactured in India and covered under target segments, to eligible companies over a period of next 5 years. Production to resume slowly due to lockdown impact: Dixon Technologies

New Delhi, Jan 3 () Dixon Technologies (India) Ltd on Friday said it has inked a pact with Samsung India Electronics for manufacturing LED TVs for the latter.
 The company, however, didn't disclose details about production and other aspects of the partnership.
 "Dixon shall be manufacturing LED TV for Samsung from its manufacturing facility located at Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh," the company said in a BSE filing.
 Dixon Technologies (India) Ltd is engaged in manufacturing products in the consumer durables segment, lighting and mobile phones markets in India. Its diversified product portfolio includes CCTV and DVRs as well.
 "Considering the faith they have bestowed on Dixon by collaborating in washing machines, mobile phones and now LED TVs, we are hopeful that our partnership grows sturdier with time," Dixon Technologies (India) Ltd Executive Chairman Sunil Vachani said.
 The company also provides services such as repair and refurbishment of set top boxes, mobile phones and LED TV panels.
 Samsung had shifted its entire TV manufacturing to Vietnam from Chennai last year. According to sources, the environment is now conducive for manufacturing LED TVs in India after the government's move to roll back custom duty imposed on display panels to zero.
 Presently, Samsung imports its portfolio of TVs from Vietnam to India under the Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Dixon Technologies to manufacture LED TVs for Samsung

This move is aimed at making India a global manufacturing hub for electronics and encouraging investments. As part of this scheme, ₹40,000 crore has been earmarked as production linked incentives (PLI) for mobile manufacturing activities. “The schemes would also provide a fillip to sagging investment sentiment in the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The timing of these guidelines is significant as it can act as a catalyst in Government’s efforts to promote India as an alternative to China in becoming a global manufacturing hub for electronics manufacturing.” said a report by Nangia Andersen. What are these production linked incentives? Production linked incentives (PLI) are awarded to companies which make an application to the government to take part in the scheme. Based on the scheme details, these PLIs go up to 6% and companies will have to reach the minimum threshold limits in terms of investment and sales. These PLIs will be offered for five years after the year in which the application has been made. New Delhi, Apr 21 () Many appliances and consumer durables manufacturers have decided not to resume manufacturing despite the government relaxing certain guidelines for industries to operate in lockdown 2.0, preferring to wait till the curbs are fully lifted.Companies like Panasonic India, Godrej Appliances, Dixon Technologies and Super Plastronics Pvt Ltd said with retail outlets shut there is no point to start production as there is existing unsold inventory of March at warehouses and dealers.Moreover, in certain states like Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and some districts like Noida of Uttar Pradesh, local authorities and governments decided not to allow any manufacturing activities.According to Panasonic India, the company would wait to start production until a favourable market condition returns."As our factory in Jhajhar, Haryana is in the green zone, we are engaging with the local authorities for permission to start manufacturing in the near future. The issue today is more on the demand side than supply, we have enough inventory with our distributors of our ACs and refrigerators to meet consumer demands," Panasonic India and South Asia President and CEO Manish Sharma told .The objective behind starting operations will be ensuring sustainability over longer term once markets are allowed to operate, he added. "We are prepared for staggered operations with workers coming in batches ensuring social distancing, frequent sanitizing, usage of masks among other initiatives to protect our workforce," Sharma explained.Expressing similar views, Godrej Appliances Business Head and EVP Kamal Nandi said, "Where will I ship my products? There are no retail activities on the ground and moreover, there is enough stocks available with the dealers. New Delhi, May 12 () Top companies across sectors - automobile maker Maruti Suzuki, consumer electronics giant Samsung to IT giant Infosys - have reopened factories and offices as India took its first steps towards resuming economic activity after weeks under a near-total coronavirus lockdown. While the government has allowed businesses to resume under strict guidelines, companies are not rushing to achieve pre-COVID-19 run-rates and instead are calibrating staff strength as they are aware that any incident of infection can prove costly. Companies said employee safety and workplace hygiene is the prime focus. While Maruti resumed operations at its Manesar plant in Haryana on Tuesday, Infosys opened offices in some cities with up to 5 per cent staff and plans to gradually raise employee strength to 40 per cent. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has less than 1 per cent of its employees currently in India offices. Mahindra &amp; Mahindra too started operations at its factories with a limited number of workers. Flipkart, Panasonic India, Whirlpool and Dabur are among a host of companies that have put in place plans to restart operations with a small section of staff. Tata group-owned jewellery brand Tanishq has announced its plans to reopen its 328 stores across the country in a phased manner. The government imposed a nationwide lockdown on March 25, and it has already been extended twice -- first until May 3 and then again until May 17. However, some curbs have been eased beginning April 20 with permission being given to industries in rural areas to restart. Later, production, sale and transport of goods in areas where virus cases are less severe have also been allowed. However, the process of restarting factories and businesses is likely to be protracted, with production only gradually ramping up towards operational capacity levels. IHS Markit said although the limited restart of some industries has been permitted since April 20, India will still suffer severe disruptions to its industrial output due to the protracted lockdown. "The Indian economy is facing a recession in the 2020-21 financial year for the first time since 1979-80, during the second OPEC oil crisis shock," IHS Markit said. "Consequently, IHS Markit expects the lockdown measures to result in a contraction of Indian industrial production in the 2020-21 financial year." But several companies across sectors ranging from textiles to consumer electronics and liquor to pharma have partially resumed operations after getting permission from local authorities. While Panasonic India and South Asia President &amp; CEO Manish Sharma said the company plans to start operations at its factory with 30 per cent capacity and slowly take it up to 50 per cent in a month's time, Samsung Electronics India said its Noida factory has started limited operations. The Noida factory of Dixon Technologies too has resumed operations. The firm's Tirupati and Dehradun plants too have started operations at about one-third capacity, which will be scaled up to 75-80 per cent in the next one week, said Sunil Vachani, Chairman, Dixon Technologies. Neeraj Bahl, the CEO of BSH Home Appliances -- German company which manufactures and sells under Bosch and Siemens brands in India -- said the firm is in process of starting production in its Tamil Nadu factory with limited staff. Mahendra Singhi, President, Cement Manufacturers Association (CMA), said 25-30 per cent of cement production capacity in the country has resumed. JK Lakshmi Cement director Shailendra Chouksey said the firm has clearances to operate all its seven plants in five states with reduced staff strength and following government's COVID-19 guidelines for factories. "However, these measures alone shall not suffice. Unless construction is allowed rather encouraged to resume operations", the sector outlook would not be very good, he said. Consumer Electronics and Appliances Manufacturers Association (CEAMA) president Kamal Nandi said slowly retail operations are opening up in green and orange zones. "Roughly industry's 30-35 per cent outlets are open throughout the country though geographically not equally distributed." "We have also got permission to open factories in green and orange zones. Most of the brands are preparing to resume operations. Some brands started last week and some would start from this week. Even more important, the supplier's plant is opening up and we are all preparing to resume operations and slowly production would start," he said. There is still no pressing need for the brands to go ahead and start mass production from day one as there is a lot of inventory in warehouses and with dealers, he added. Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) director-general Rajesh Menon said the auto sector lost over Rs 90,000 crore in revenue due to the lockdown. Ashok Leyland MD &amp; CEO Vipin Sondhi said these are truly unprecedented times, and the government and industry need to work closely to bring the industry back on its feet. The government is said to be working on a second fiscal package to support businesses, particularly small and mid-sized companies that account for about a third of India's gross domestic product (GDP) and employ more than 11 crore people.
