The shares of <keyword id="28423" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="vedanta" source="Orion">Vedanta</keyword> on Friday rose 6.5 per cent to Rs 321 a piece on the <keyword id="35140" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bse" source="Orion">BSE</keyword>. In a span of five days, the mining company had rallied nearly 14 per cent on the back of the company's earnings announcement and heavy volumes. The company last week had announced an expansion of rolled-product capacity at Balco from the existing 50 KTPA to 180 KTPA at a revised cost of Rs 595 crore. With the completion of this project, Balco will be placed in the high-premium product segment. It also said the expansion of Balco smelter capacity from an existing capacity of 580 KTPA to 994 KTPA by way of an expansion project of 414 <keyword id="15432757" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ktpa-smelter" source="Orion">KTPA smelter</keyword>, at a revised cost of Rs 8,094 crore, subject to requisite government approvals. The Mumbai-headquartered had announced revenue during the second quarter with a 20.6 per cent growth to Rs 36,237 crore from Rs 30,048 crore reported a year ago. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (Ebitda) decreased by 24 per cent to Rs 8,038 crore on account of input commodity inflation and lower output commodity prices; partially offset by improved operational performance, hedging gains and foreign exchange gains. During the earnings announcement, <keyword id="150453" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sunil-duggal" source="Orion">Sunil Duggal</keyword>, Chief Executive Officer, Vedanta, had said "I am pleased to share that we have generated strong free cash flow (pre-capex) of Rs 8,369 crore underpinned by robust operational and financial performance. I am also happy to inform you that Vedanta has entered into the club of top 10 Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) ranked global metals and mining companies; ranking sixth globally." The holding company of India's Vedanta -- Vedanta Resources -- had terminated Moody's rating services. Moody's on October 31 had downgraded the corporate family rating of Vedanta Resources to B3 from B2 and senior unsecured bonds rating to Caa1 from B3. While downgrading, Moody's highlighted that Vedanta was yet to find a source of funding for its $900-million bond maturities due in April and May 2023. On Wednesday, the global diversified natural resources company secured a coveted spot among the top 10 global metal and mining companies by ranking sixteenth out of 216 companies globally (98th percentile) and second in Asia Pacific by S&amp;P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2022, formerly known as Dow Jones Sustainability Index - DJSI. The shares of the company on Friday closed 6.5 per cent up at 322.60 apiece on the BSE. New Delhi, Mar 27 () Vedanta Ltd on Friday said its Chief Executive Officer Srinivasan Venkatakrishnan has resigned citing personal reasons. The resignation will be effective April 5, Vedanta Ltd said in a BSE filing. "The board of directors of the company in their meeting held on March 27, 2020, have...taken note of resignation of S Venkatakrishnan from the position of the whole-time director and CEO of the company w.e.f. close of business hours on April 5, 2020, on account of personal reasons," Vedanta Ltd said. The company said Sunil Duggal, whole-time director and CEO of Hindustan Zinc Ltd, a subsidiary of Vedanta, will take additional charge as an interim CEO of Vedanta Ltd from April 6. The company further announced appointment of Anil Agarwal as additional non-executive director designated as chairman of the company's board with effect from Saturday. The board has also re-designated Navin Agarwal as executive vice-chairman of the company's board with effect from the close of business hours on Friday. In a separate statement, Vedanta Ltd said Srinivasan Venkatakrishnan will step down as CEO and the company's director with effect from April 5, 2020, for personal reasons and will rejoin his family in South Africa. It said the company has appointed Sunil Duggal as interim chief executive officer of the company. He will report to chairman, the statement said. On his appointment, Duggal in the statement said, "I am indebted to the company for this appointment. I am confident that at Vedanta, with its strong moorings, I will be able to steer the company through its trajectory of growth and contribute to the economic progress of our country." ABI HRS

The esteemed guests discussed the ‘Key success factors for implementing the Extended Producer Responsibility legislation’ and concluded that there is a long way to go for most Indian companies. The discussion was centred around the premise that sustainable global economy should combine long term profitability with ethical behaviour, social justice and environmental care. Tetra Pak has been a stellar example of that by being fully committed to sustainability practices long before the <keyword id="6355833" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="united-nations">United Nations</keyword> insisted on Sustainability reports from companies of all member nations in 2012, and also much before Legislation such as EPR (extended Producer Responsibility) came into play. Recently in Mumbai, over 1600 families in <keyword id="6355459" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="colaba">Colaba</keyword> and Cuffe Parade got four benches made from recycled cartons and installed them at Sagar Upvan, also known as <keyword id="136514" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="mumbai-port-trust">Mumbai Port Trust</keyword> garden. The residents stopped nearly 18,000 cartons from ending up at city’s dumping grounds. This is only one of many such initiatives being run by Tetra Pak, with the help of an execution partner called R U Recycling Greenlife (RUR). According to RUR, around 20% of used cartons sold through Sahakari Bhandar and Reliance Smart and Fresh outlets across Mumbai get deposited by conscious consumers and are recycled into useful products, but the opportunities are immense for other shopper citizens to follow suit. Tetra Pak’s flagship recycling programme, called Go Green, was started in association with Sahakari Bhandar in 2010. With 44 collection centres across the city, Go Green has managed to collect over 20 lakh cartons and recycled them into 250 desks and over 100 garden benches. This initiative is interesting because not only does it promote recycling of packaging materials but it also creates classroom furniture and notebooks out of the recycled material which is then donated to schools for the lesser privileged. Kandarp Singh says, “There is need for a unified approach towards recycling in order to make our cities healthier and more habitable. Being a responsible manufacturer, we have been working ahead of the curve to set up a viable ecosystem to encourage and build awareness around the recycling of our fully-recyclable paper-based cartons. We are very thankful to our partners like Sahakari Bhandar, Reliance Fresh and RUR for their support in. The support that Mumbaikars have extended to us is very encouraging and we are ready to take this mission to the next level over the next few years.” When it comes to sustainability the company is a great example to follow, and their sustainability story does not end at just recycling. The company is a frontrunner when it comes to ethical work practices starting from sourcing till recycling- • RESPONSIBLE SOURCING - Cartons are primarily made from paper which is sourced only from well -managed forests to ensure that none of the endangered forests are affected. The paperboard, which is 75% of the carton, is recycled into useful products and the 25% remaining fraction consisting of the polyethylene and the aluminum can be recycled into panel boards, roof sheets and so on. Globally, sustainability is an important priority for Tetra Pak. Last year, the company launched Tetra Rex, made entirely from plant-based materials and 100 per cent renewable. Other options that Tetra Pak is looking at are biopolymers for caps and more. Another stellar example of the sustainability story is the multi-stakeholder Municipal solid waste management program, ‘Alag Karo Har Din Teen Bin’, in Gurugram which was pivoted by the NGO Saahas starting September 6th. The program is aimed at establishing and sustaining segregation at source and develop capacities of the waste collectors to ensure high recycling rates in Gurugram. “Gurgaon generates 1,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste daily. If source segregation is practised and collection and processing infrastructure is improved, it is possible to reduce the amount of waste being dumped by 85-90%. The MCG has started various projects for source segregation of waste and decentralised waste management,” says Narhari Banger, additional commissioner, MCG. The program aims to reach out to 9000 households; 50 commercial establishments such as Offices and Malls; 50 schools and 500 waste pickers in order to spread awareness about three-way source segregation -dry waste, wet waste and hazardous waste. "We want to sensitise people on proper waste management practices and the value that recyclables like used Tetra Pak cartons can provide to waste dealers and recyclers." says Kandarp Singh. "Our cartons are primarily made from high value paper and are 100% recyclable. We want citizens to be aware of good waste segregation practices and for them to take action in their own homes. We hope the people of Gurgaon see the value of projects like Alag Karo in making our Millennium city cleaner."

Used beverage cartons are being recycled into classroom desks and that’s not where Tetra Pak’s sustainability story ends

Executive Director (R&amp;D), TSR Murali, the brain behind Kurkure and Aliva, has quit <keyword id="110163" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="PepsiCo-India">PepsiCo India</keyword>, a person familiar with the matter told TNN. He said Murali was one of the most important in the country’s efforts to spawn innovations in its food business. 
 
The high profile exits come at a time when the sales of soft drinks are slowing down in the country. Several executives in charge of key functions left the company recently while a few others are waiting in the wings, said people familiar with the matter, citing the frequent restructuring in the Indian subsidiary of the New York-based food and beverage giant. 
 PepsiCo veterans <keyword id="2933728" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Meghnad-Mitra">Meghnad Mitra</keyword>, who worked as senior director, planning and strategy , at the company , and <keyword id="150453" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sunil-Duggal">Sunil Duggal</keyword>, director of corporate affairs, who was responsible for liasoning with Indian government and industry bodies on behalf of the beverage major have also put in their papers recently . 
 
A PepsiCo India spokesperson told TNN: "While senior and middle management levels do witness churn, we are pleased by the fact that we have been able to fill most of these positions internally which speaks for our talent pipeline created by our robust leadership development model and people plans. PepsiCo India has over a period of time built a very strong pipeline by giving people a mix of different critical experiences within PepsiCo India and internationally and continues to do so.” 
 The company faced a churn of senior and mid-level executives from both its marketing and sales division when it divested its north India bottling operations to <keyword id="13319" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ravi-Jaipuria">Ravi Jaipuria</keyword>'s <keyword id="477661" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="RJ-corp-">RJ Corp </keyword>in November last year. The deal saw PepsiCo handing over four plants and two co-packing units across six states. Around 900 direct employees of the company were affected by the deal. Glitches dogged PepsiCo till March this year when it had to pay sizeable compensations to the workers at most of the transferred plants in a bid to make them to start production for RJ Corp. 
 Industry experts said PepsiCo's "Power of One" strategy, which has also come under fire from activist investors, is one of the main reasons behind employee dissatisfaction at the company .Earlier, operations were divided into two individual entities at PepsiCo--food (FritoLay India) and beverages (PepsiCo India Holdings) --with individual leaders at the helm. Then, led by PepsiCo's long-term CEO <keyword id="6421975" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indra-Nooyi">Indra Nooyi</keyword>, the company merged its foods and beverages businesses in many markets with the idea that selling food and beverages as part of a single portfolio will give the company more leverage to take on rivals such as <keyword id="6391475" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Coca-Cola">Coca-Cola</keyword>, which only sells beverages.

PepsiCo India facing HR challenge with top level resignations

New Delhi, Jan 20 () Hindustan Zinc Ltd on Monday posted a 26.7 per cent decline in net profit at Rs 1,620 crore for the December 2019 quarter.
 Net profit in the year-ago period was Rs 2,211 crore, the company said in a BSE filing.
 "Net profit for the quarter was Rs 1,620 crore, a decline of 22 per cent sequentially and 27 per cent year-on-year," it said.
 Total income during October-December dropped to Rs 5,117 crore as compared to Rs 6,090 crore in the year-ago quarter, the filing said.
 "We have delivered good performance in a challenging market environment and are committed to maintaining the growth trajectory. We remain focused on our fundamentals of sustainability, efficiency, technology and digitisation to maintain industry leadership and deliver healthy return to our shareholders," Hindustan Zinc Ltd CEO Sunil Duggal said.
 Mined metal production for the quarter was 2,35,000 tonnes, up seven per cent sequentially on account of higher ore production and better overall grades.
 "Integrated metal production was 219kt (2,19,000 tonnes) for the quarter, up 4 per cent sequentially... increase in zinc production to 178kt (1,78,000 tonnes) while lead production declined by 7 per cent to 41kt (41,000 tonnes)," it said.
 Integrated zinc production increased in line with higher mined metal availability.
 The ongoing mining expansion, the company said, is in its final phase and on track to achieve capacity of 1.2 million tonnes per annum.
 As on December 31, 2019, the company's net cash and cash equivalents was Rs 19,513 crore as compared to Rs 16,952 crore at the end of FY'19. 
 The company's target is to maintain cost leadership by bringing in operational efficiencies and higher productivity through technology adoption and digital transformation, aided by completion of our key projects, company's CFO Swayam Saurabh said. SID

Hindustan Zinc Q3 net profit drops 27 pc to Rs 1,620 cr

New Delhi, Mar 29 () Metals and mining magnate Anil Agarwal has for the first time taken a board position on his flagship Indian firm, Vedanta Ltd, replacing his brother Navin.Agarwal, 66, who turned a tiny scrap metal business into a mining conglomerate, had so far headed the board of London-headquartered Vedanta Resources.The Indian flagship Vedanta Ltd houses its oil and gas, aluminium, power, iron ore, steel and copper business.In a statement, the company said Agarwal has been appointed "as the non-executive chairman of Vedanta Ltd".He replaces his brother Navin, who will now be the Executive Vice Chairman of the Board.The changes followed chief executive officer S Venkatakrishnan resignation. He was replaced by Sunil Duggal, current head of Vedanta unit Hindustan Zinc Ltd."The company will be run by a management committee comprising of CEO, CFO, CHRO and CCO who will take all key decisions collectively under the guidance of Chairman," the statement said.Besides the Agarwal brothers, Vedanta Ltd also has Anil's daughter Priya as a board director. His trusted lieutenant Tarun Jain is also on the board.Former Hindustan Unilever executive Arun Kumar GR is Chief Financial Officer.Anil Agarwal's other listed firm Hindustan Zinc Ltd is headed by his wife Kiran. Consumer goods companies are expecting demand to get a boost in rural markets from Budget sops and therefore they are working on their strategies for the rural markets. 
 
The prime focus will be affordability for the companies as they target the rural folks. 
 
"With its pro-rural, bottom-of pyramid focus and (the Budget) being non-inflationary, we expect growth will return to rural markets after a gap. This is a pro-consumption Budget for the rural economy and, after the setback of demonetisation, it helps especially for companies like ours with a strong rural focus,” Dabur chief executive Sunil Duggal, told ET. 
 In the Budget 2017, <keyword id="25455" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="finance">Finance</keyword> minister <keyword id="42575" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arun-Jaitley">Arun Jaitley</keyword> proposed to spend more on the rural side with an aim to double the farmer's income in five years. According to the industry experts, this along with the cut in income tax rate targeting mainly the small tax payers, focus on affordable housing and infrastructure development will provide multiple growth drivers for the hinterland. 
 
Rural demand has been slow to rebound after demonetisation compared with the rest of the country. With the Budget balm, experts expect the situation to change fast. 
 <keyword id="6359432" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Britannia">Britannia</keyword> managing director <keyword id="459296" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Varun-Berry">Varun Berry</keyword> said the biscuits maker will renovate its entry level Tiger's brand. 
 
"There will be an overall thrust on all Rs 5 and Rs 10 packs in small towns and villages. Distribution inroads in rural will remain our biggest initiative," Berry told ET.

Similarly, senior executives with large portfolios have suddenly seen their roles shrink," said a senior executive with PepsiCo India. 
 
As per the information sought from sources, Vyas has joined Hike, a messaging platform led by Bharti and Softbank, as VP, marketing, Mathrani has been roped in by Airtel as chief brand officer. Patni has joined Kellogg's India as finance director (CFO), while Kinjal has moved to Amazon India as HR director &amp; head. 
 
"All functions except supply chain and sales had become PO1 two years ago," D Shivakumar, chairman &amp; CEO, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/here-are-the-early-contenders-for-pepsi-ceo-indra-nooyis-job-2012-3?IR=T">PepsiCo India</a>, told TOI. " The retail industry is facing attrition of around 40%. The industry in general is facing an attrition of around 15-20%. We have created larger jobs in sales and marketing."

Bigg Boss Season 8: Take A Sneak Peak At 15 Probable Contestants

Last two months have made consumers aware. Thanks to Maggi controversy, people buying food items at retail stores are looking at the back of the pack more attentively to check the nutritional information and the date of manufacture. The retailers are now demanding to shrink the timeline of delivery in the stores from manufacturers’ end to ensure fast movement of products. 
 
A news report in The Economic Times informs, products take an average of at least 10 days to reach store shelves from the plants, except for perishables such as dairy products, which are delivered overnight. Retail development in the country has been impeded by poor roads and the lack of a cold-chain infrastructure. 
 
Retailers have started to request for fresher stock with higher shelf life. While modern trade always had shelf-life policies, it is getting stringent now," Mayank Shah, deputy marketing manager at top biscuits maker Parle Products told The Economic Times. 
Reliance Retail has introduced an extra round of safety checks across products in its 600 stores amid fears of a consumer backlash if a sub-standard or expired product is sold, said a person familiar with the development. 
 
"Any product that has 70% of its shelf life remaining does not enter our stores," an executive of Reliance Retail said. 
 
The FSSAI is preparing an adviso- strinry for retailers, which will hold them accountable for products they sell, including any that haven't been approved. 
 
Yudhvir Singh Malik, the CEO of the food regulator, told ET last week that retailers could be vulnerable to regulatory and legal action if found to be defaulting on these parameters. 
 
Tata Starbucks has earlier said, it has "initiated the suspension of applicable ingredients from certain products served in our stores" and is providing the regulator with documentation needed for its pending applications. 
 
Organised grocery chains including Big Bazaar, Walmart India's Best Price Modern Wholesale, Easy Day, Nilgiris, K Raheja's HyperCity, Savemax Wholesale and Spar had started pulling Maggi off the shelves even before the FSSAI ban on the two minute snack and Nestle's recall. 
 
"As a policy, we accept only those products which have 75% of their shelf life when they hit our stores," a senior official of a leading supermarket firm told the financial daily. He also added that most national companies have plants spread across the country and it's not always possible to distribute their products within a short span of time. "In the case of beverages or food products, where shelf life is less than a week, companies tend to keep production facilities near retail locations since most of them are regional players." 
 
Following the Maggi controversy, a top consumer goods firm has postponed two launches, while some are allocating additional funds for research and development. "We are stepping up spends on product testing, especially in collaboration with external labs," Sunil Duggal, CEO at Dabur, which makes Real juices, told the ET.
