In a list of honorary British awards unveiled by the UK Cabinet Office, <keyword id="20134935" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mittal" source="keywords">Mittal</keyword> receives a KBE under the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire - one of the highest honours conferred by a British monarch. The 66-year-old entrepreneur said in a statement that he was "deeply humbled" by the gracious recognition from King Charles. "The UK and India have historical relations, which are now entering a new era of increased cooperation and collaboration. I remain committed to working towards strengthening the economic and bilateral trade relationships between our two great nations," Mittal said. "I am thankful to the government of the UK, whose support and keen attention to the needs of business has been critical in making the country an attractive investment destination," he said. The KBE, conferred for a pre-eminent contribution in any field of activity, is awarded in an honorary capacity to foreign nationals. While the Knighthood conferred on UK nationals gives them the title of Sir or Dame, non-UK nationals awarded the honour add KBE (or DBE for women) after their name. Previous Indian recipients of the Honorary KBE include Ratan Tata (2009), Ravi <keyword id="20006262" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shankar" source="keywords">Shankar</keyword> (2001) and Jamshed Irani (1997), conferred by the late Queen Elizabeth II. The investiture ceremony will be conducted by the British High Commissioner to India at a later date, when he will formally hand over the royal insignia to Mittal. The honour recognises Bharti Enterprises' work within the India-UK space, including with the UK government in the field of satellites. Sunil Bharti Mittal led the revival of OneWeb (now Eutelsat), leading a consortium with the UK government and other strategic investors to offer satellite broadband services globally, a company statement notes. Mittal has a strong connection with the UK, as a member of the India-UK CEO Forum and has previously been awarded the Honorary Doctor of Civil Law from Newcastle University and an Honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Leeds. He is also a member of the Vice Chancellor's Circle of Advisors at the University of Cambridge. Additionally, Sunil Bharti Mittal has served on the Governing Body of the London Business School (LBS) and as a Member of the India Advisory Group at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). In 2019, Bharti's Airtel Africa was listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE100 Index.

Airtel has moved TDSAT on Reliance Jio's free services. <keyword id="6367997" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mittal">Mittal</keyword> said it is unfair competition if any player is providing services for free for such a long time. He said Airtel has put all matters concerning the unfair practice of Jio in the TDSAT including issues regarding <keyword id="6356988" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="TRAI">TRAI</keyword>. Airtel has called TRAI a mute spectator. Mittal believes DoT has set up a committee to look into the matter and is waiting to hear from the telecom department and the regulator. Mittal said Jio's entry in the market has impacted both revenues and margins of telecom players however Airtel is not as impacted by the entry of other players. 
 Mittal said Reliance Jio's entry has impacted the telecom industry. Sunil Mittal replaces Terry McGraw to become the new chairman of ICC

<keyword id="6354287" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bharti-Airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword> and Vodafone, which are India's top two telecom operators, have decided to take on <keyword id="6354504" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Reliance-Jio">Reliance Jio</keyword> Infocomm, the upcoming mobile telephony, broadband services, and digital services provider so that they can maintain their top spot while taking care of their customers’ demand. 
 
In their bid to do so, they are preparing to deploy Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology on their networks, so that they are well-prepared to battle Jio, which is expected to start its operations soon. The deployment would be done in association with Finnish telecom gear maker Nokia. 
 <keyword id="6354924" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Idea-Cellular">Idea cellular</keyword>, which happens to be at the third position, is also in "active talks" with Nokia for a similar deal, sources close to ET confirmed.

The Mukesh Ambani vs Sunil Bharti Mittal battle is really heating up!

The much hyped Reliance Jio, 4G services by Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio Infocomm has kept the telecom companies sweating in mid monsoon. As the day of its commercial launch nears , doubt, worry and tension have gripped the other prime players in the telecom industry fearing that Reliance may make voice call free and only charge for data. 
 
Jio will offer data and voice services at half or less than half the current rates at Rs. 300-500 a month, Ambani said in June at the annual general meeting of parent Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), according to a news report by The Economic Times. Last week, he announced an investment of Rs. 2.5 lakh crore as part of plans that include expansion of wireless broadband infrastructure and manufacture of mobile handsets at launch of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Digital India initiative to widen access and put governance online. 
 
Even if these weren’t enough to bleed telecom players’ treasury, , starting July 1, customers can change providers while retaining numbers. Even though voice call charges are among the lowest in the world, this segment still contributes more than 80 per cent to the total profit of phone companies, ET report further clarifies. 
 
"Jio needs to drive traffic up on its networks; its network will be completely empty. We will have no choice but to see how we can match it," said an executive of a telecom major. 
 
 
The Reliance unit could bundle devices with services but that's not seen as a likely strategy. In its initial entry in 2003, Reliance is estimated to have burnt through more than $1 billion offering talk time bundled with devices, said the executive cited above. "But they have been known to surprise and have deep pockets. They will be prepared to burn cash. It is only a matter of how much," he said. 
 
Rajan Mathews, director general of the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), told the ET that Jio would broaden the data market. COAI represents GSM phone companies such as Airtel, Vodafone and Idea besides Jio. 
 
But in a recent report, brokerage Jefferies warned that the entry of Jio would make the environment more harsh, especially on the data side, which is expected to drive sector growth. It pointed out that the industry has "a disproportionately high number of operators at seven-eight in each circle," which doesn't allow telcos to raise prices.

Betting big on the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/How-the-new-Insurance-Billwill-change-the-way-you-save/articleshow/46554138.cms">insurance</a> market in India, French insurance major <keyword id="152119" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="AXA">AXA</keyword> has increased its stake in Sunil Bharti Mittal’s insurance arm, Bharti AXA Life insurance and Bharti AXA General Insurance. The insurance giant has hiked its stake from 26% to 49% in the two<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/ICICI-to-sell-6-stake-in-life-insurance-JV-to-Premji-Invest-Temasek-arm-for-Rs-1950-crore/articleshow/49817500.cms"> joint ventures.</a> 
	 
	This move follows the government’s recent reform in FDI policy in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/These-are-the-Insuranceproducts-that-India-invests-in-the-most/articleshow/46743258.cms">insurance</a>, which now allows foreign investments up to 49%. 
	 
	“This is a significant milestone in the journey of the Bharti-AXA joint ventures, and underlines the partnership's long-term commitment to the Indian market,” said Rahul Bhatnagar, managing director and CFO, Bharti Enterprises. 
	 
	Sharing a similar sentiment, Jean-Louis Laurent Josi, CEO of AXA Asia added, “Our long-standing partnership with Bharti, a leading Indian conglomerate, positions us ideally to succeed in this highly promising market.” 
	 
	However, the statement did not disclose any financial detail.

 According to sources, the Prime Minister’s Office has pruned the list, dropping at least <keyword id="6364063" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Adi-Godrej">Adi Godrej</keyword>, S Gopalakrishnan and <keyword id="33275" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Deepak-Puri">Deepak Puri</keyword> from it. An official downplayed dropping of the names, saying that with any change of guard at the Centre there are changes in the composition of delegations travelling with the PM. The idea is to get additional Japanese business to India and to see who can partner major Indian business firms to make entry here, another official said. 
 The business delegation will attend the the India Japan Business Forum. The PM said he sees the trip as an opportunity to take India’s ties with Japan “to a new level” and increase cooperation in various fields. “I will visit <keyword id="4741" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tokyo">Tokyo</keyword> and Kyoto, and will interact with all sections of the Japanese society, from students, political leaders to captains of industry,” he said on Tuesday.

Telecom giant Bharti <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword> will invest $1 billion a year in <keyword id="12925" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Africa">Africa</keyword> over the next few years. 
 "Airtel will invest $1 billion in Africa per annum over the next few years," Bharti Enterprises founder and chairman <keyword id="6442632" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sunil-Bharti-Mittal">Sunil Bharti Mittal</keyword> stated on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum. 
 
Airtel operates in 17 African countries and provides 3G services in 14 of them. 
 
Mittal also said that the company would focus more on existing operations instead of expanding to new markets. 
 Airtel had ventured into the African market in 2010 after acquiring <keyword id="79798" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Zain-Telecom">Zain Telecom</keyword> for about $10.7 billion. It had made capital expenditure of $635 million in FY2013-14. Airtel’s total investment amounted to $14,388 million in the continent at the end of 2013-14. 
 
Airtel Africa saw 2% growth in revenues for the last of quarter of 2013-14. It registered a net loss of $124 million, compared to a net loss of $91 million in the corresponding quarter of 2012-13. 
 
For Airtel, the average revenue per user in the African continent saw a decline of 7% to $5.5. 
 
However, the number of data customers in Africa during the last quarter of 2013-14 increased 53.5% to 22.3 million, which is now 32.1% of the total customer base.
