The 30-share <keyword id="19950208" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE-Sensex" source="keywords">BSE Sensex</keyword> fell 202.80 points or 0.25 % to settle at 82,352.64. During the day, it tumbled 721.75 points or 0.87 % to 81,833.69. Snapping its 14-day rally, the <keyword id="19950205" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NSE-Nifty" source="keywords">NSE Nifty</keyword> declined 81.15 points or 0.32 % to 25,198.70. Intra-day, it tanked 196.05 points or 0.77 % to 25,083.80. Nifty has surged nearly 1,141 points or 4.59 % in 14 straight days. Among the 30 Sensex firms, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Axis Bank, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Infosys, Larsen &amp; Toubro, Tata Steel, Tata Consultancy Services, Bajaj Finance and Adani Ports were the major laggards. Asian Paints, Hindustan Unilever, UltraTech Cement, <keyword id="20026907" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sun-pharma" source="keywords">Sun Pharma</keyword> and Reliance Industries were among the gainers. In <keyword id="20155107" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Asian-markets" source="keywords">Asian markets</keyword>, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong ended sharply lower. European markets were also trading in the red. The US markets ended significantly lower on Tuesday. "The warning signals from weak US manufacturing data added concerns about a potential slowdown in the US economy, which dragged the domestic indices. Due to a lack of major domestic triggers, the indices will take direction based on global cues," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 1,029.25 crore on Tuesday, according to exchange data. Global oil benchmark Brent crude declined 0.14 % to USD 73.65 a barrel. Osho Krishan, Senior Analyst - Technical &amp; Derivatives, Angel One Ltd, noted that the weakness in the global bourses led to a gap-down start for our markets, breaking the 14-day winning streak for Nifty. However, post the opening bell, the bulls showed resilience and gradually led the index to higher ground, paring down some of the losses with a modest recovery. Eventually, the Nifty50 index settled the day a tad below the 25200 level, with a cut of 0.32 percent after a very long haul. "The recent fall could be seen as a breather with no alterations to the ongoing trend. Furthermore, the unwavering strength of the Bulls demonstrated throughout the session reflects the positive sentiment in the domestic market. From a technical standpoint, the pullback post the setback construes a positive scenario, with strong support being seen around the 25,100-25,080 spot zone for Nifty, followed by the sacrosanct support of the 25,000 mark in the comparable period. On the higher end, the highs of 25,300-25,350 is now expected to be seen as a resistance and an authoritative breach could only open the next leg of the rally towards 25,400-25,500", he said. "Going ahead, it is crucial to stay vigilant about global developments, as they can significantly impact the intermediate trend for our markets. While our domestic market shows strength, it is essential to proceed thoughtfully, adopt a practical approach, and focus on selective stock choices for superior performance", Krishan continued. Mr. Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd highlighted that selective buying in heavyweight stocks helped trim the losses as the session progressed, with the index eventually closing at 25,198, down by 0.3%. Sector-wise, the trend was mixed; pharma, realty, and FMCG sectors saw gains, while IT and metal sectors faced profit-taking. "This move indicates that the bulls are still holding their ground, though consolidation could occur if global pressures intensify. We recommend maintaining a focus on stock selection and trade management, with the support zone for Nifty remaining strong at 24,850-25,000", he said.

Nifty halts 14-day rally; Sensex drops over 200 points tracking weak global markets

Out of the 2,771 stocks traded during the day, 1,059 saw advances, while 1,630 saw declines, while another 82 remained unchanged. 152 stocks hit their 52-week high price and 32 stocks hit their 52-week low price as well. 108 stocks remained in the upper circuit during the day, while 81 stocks remained in the lower circuit, or hit their minimum permissible trading price during a singular trading session. Amidst broad market indices, Nifty next 50 was down by 1.30%, Nifty 100 was down by 1.10%, Nifty 200 dipped by 1.08%, Nifty 500 was down by 1.05% and midcap 50 was down by 1.43%. With the exception of India VIX, which rose 11.4% during the day, all other indices closed the day in red. As for sectoral indices, IT was down by 2.41%, metal was down by 2.70%, PSU banks were down by 1.72%, <keyword id="20304716" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="realty" source="keywords">realty</keyword> was down by 3.53% and oil and gas dipped by 1.24% during the day. Only healthcare and pharma indices closed the day in green. <h2>What are the experts saying?</h2>Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd noted that today, the markets traded under pressure and lost over a percent due to weak global cues. After a gap-down start, Nifty fluctuated within a range and eventually closed near the day's low. Most sectors mirrored the benchmark's decline, with realty, auto, and metal being the top losers. The broader indices also fell, each losing over half a percent. "Nifty struggled to surpass the hurdle at 25,100, and Friday's close suggests a potential further dip toward the immediate support zone around the 20-day EMA around 24,500 level. Besides earnings, participants are also taking cues from the global front, particularly the US, which has been experiencing significant volatility recently. Given this scenario, it is advisable to limit overnight leveraged positions and opt for hedged trades", he continued. Amol Athawale, VP-Technical Research, Kotak securities explained that today, our markets followed the trend of world equity markets, which closed with a massive drop in the last few days. They were down due to weak economy-related data as well as disappointing quarterly numbers. However, our markets held up relatively better than world markets, which fell by over 1.50%. Weekly, Nifty fell by 0.40%, while Sensex was down by 300 points. "Realty, auto, and IT fell by over 2% weekly, while the Nifty pharma index was up nominally. We saw particular buying interest in new-age companies after Zomato's Q1 numbers. Technically, the market managed to climb to new highs during the week. Nifty and Sensex achieved major milestones by crossing 25000 on the Nifty and 82000 on the Sensex. However, currently, most stocks and indices are close to important resistance levels, and we may see consolidation for a few days or weeks", said Athawale. "On an immediate basis, the market is finding support between 24,600/80,900 and 24,500/80,600 levels. On the other hand, until the market crosses 25,100/82,200, we may see a range-bound movement in the market. The strategy should be to buy selective stocks between 24,600 and 24,500/80,900 and 80,600 levels. A close below 24,500/80,600 may take the market towards 24,250/79,900 or 24,100/79,500 levels. Any bounce towards 24,900-25,000/81,700-82000 levels will be an opportunity to reduce long positions", he continued.

Stock market closing: Sensex, Nifty close the week in red, Sensex tumbles over 800 points

While Nifty inched up around 100 points at 25,053.00, opening at over 25,000 points for the first time, Sensex was up by over 300 points, trading at 82,078.08 as of 9:40 am. All broad market indices opened the day in green, except for India VIX, which dipped by over 1% in early trade. With the exception of media, <keyword id="19933821" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pharma" source="keywords">pharma</keyword> and realty, all other sectoral indices were trading in green during early trade. <keyword id="20102108" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="metal" source="keywords">Metal</keyword> took a significant lead and was up by 1.54% this morning. Aditya Gaggar, director of Progressive Shares notes that Indian equities ended the month of July at record level of 24,951. The index is heading towards the psychological barrier of 25,000 and a sustainable move above the same will push the Index further higher to 25,200 whereas on the downside 24,800 will be considered as immediate support. "Bank Nifty is oscillating in the range of 51,250-51,930 and a breakout on either sides is a must to determine the clear trend. The metal sector is providing an early sign of trend reversal while the pharma segment is likely to extend its outperformance. Investors should watch the chemical stocks with a buy-on-dips strategy", he continued. Shrikant Chouhan – Head – Equity Research at Kotak Securities says that from a technical perspective, the market has shown a narrow range of activity this week. "It has consistently found support between 24,800-24,750/81,100-81,000 on the downside, with profit booking observed between 24,950-24,980/81,750-81,800. If the market goes above 24,980/81,800, it could rally to 25,050-25,125/82,200-82,500. However, if it falls below 24,750/81,000, the market sentiment may change, potentially leading to a decline to 24,650-24,500/80,800-80,500 levels. The recommended strategy is to reduce long positions between 25050/25150 levels", he said. Apurva Sheth, Head of Market Perspectives and Research , SAMCO Securities added that US Fed Chief <keyword id="20058769" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jerome-powell" source="keywords">Jerome Powell</keyword> had kept rates unchanged in the recently concluded meeting. However, he clearly stated that if inflation remains on the anticipated trajectory of 2% then a rate cuts might happen as early as September. "This unleashed animal spirits and pushed the bond and equity prices higher globally. US 10 year bond yields which are inversely correlated to bond prices slipped sharply lower and are on the verge of falling below 4% mark. This is a big positive for the markets as the cost of capital for corporates and consumers is falling. Riskier assets like emerging markets and metals are likely to do well. Precious metals like gold and silver too should benefit from rate cuts", he explained.

Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd notes that the market traded volatile for yet another session and ended nearly unchanged. After a flat start, the Nifty gradually inched higher for most of the session; however, sharp profit-taking in the final hours trimmed all the gains. "Meanwhile, a mixed trend continued on the sectoral front, with energy, auto, and realty performing well, while FMCG and pharma lagged slightly. The broader indices continued to attract buying interest, helping market breadth to end on the advancing side. Rotational participation from the heavyweights is maintaining a positive tone amid consolidation, and we expect this prevailing trend to continue. We are targeting 25,100 in the Nifty and suggest focusing on accumulating quality stocks on dips", he continued. As per Aditya Gaggar, director of Progressive Shares, "Broader markets extended their streak of outperformance as Mid and Smallcaps advanced further with gains of 0.45% &amp; 0.86% respectively. Nifty50 has made a DOJI candlestick pattern which indicates an indecisiveness between the bulls and bears. A psychological level of 25,000 will continue to act as a strong barrier while immediate support is placed at 24,800 followed by 24,660". Osho Krishan, Senior Analyst - Technical &amp; Derivatives, Angel One Ltd highlights that the Indian equity markets opened the session steadily, drawing insights from mixed global cues. The benchmark index gradually gained momentum post the initial opening hour and made strides towards the last swing high. However, the bears made a comeback at the highs, leading to a modest correction. Despite multiple efforts, the bulls were unable to challenge the record high, and the day ultimately concluded on a flat note. "Technically, the 25,000 milestone withholds the daunting task for the bulls, and a sustainable breakthrough could only direct the next leg of the rally in the index. On the lower end, 24,600 is likely to be seen as intermediate support, followed by the sacrosanct demand at the 24500 zone in the comparable period. The advance-decline ratio continues to highlight the dominance of the bulls, particularly in the mid and small-cap segments, which bodes well for market sentiments. Thus, one needs to focus on such themes for having an outperformance while the key indices are witnessing some timidness at their pivotal zones", continued Krishan.

Goods and Services Tax collections grew 12.4 per cent to a record high of Rs 2.10 lakh crore in April, aided by strong economic momentum and increased domestic transactions and imports, the finance ministry said on Wednesday. The GST collections have breached the Rs 2 lakh crore-mark for the first time in April this year, it said in a statement. "The domestic cues are strongly positive. The GST collection for April setting a record of Rs 2.1 trillion indicates a booming economy," said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services. In Asian markets, Tokyo and Hong Kong were trading with gains while Seoul and Shanghai quoted lower. Wall Street ended on a mixed note on Wednesday. Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.53 per cent to USD 83.88 a barrel. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 1,071.93 crore on Tuesday, according to exchange data. "Positive factors include record-high GST revenue, FIIs and DIIs being net buyers, and WTI oil prices falling below USD 80 a barrel," said Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities Ltd. Markets trade firm in early trade as GST revenues hit record in April

The 30-share BSE benchmark tanked 2,401.49 points to 78,580.46 in early trade. Following the sharp decline in equities, the market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms dropped by Rs 9,51,771.37 crore to Rs 4,47,65,174.76 crore (USD 5.35 trillion) during the morning trade. "The global market is reeling as bears enter with a cocktail of bad news. The fear of a reverse Yen carry trade, following an interest rate hike in Japan, was the initial catalyst. This was compounded by fears of a recession in the USA after extremely poor jobs data, which spooked market sentiment," said Santosh Meena, Head of Research, Swastika Investmart Ltd. Indian equity markets are witnessing signs of the first meaningful correction in global markets after an extended bull run, he added. In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong were trading sharply lower. Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 stock index plunged as much as 8.1 per cent early Monday, extending sell-offs that shook world markets last week as worries flared over the state of the US economy. The US markets ended significantly lower on Friday. "The rally in the global stock markets has been driven mainly by consensus expectations of a soft landing for the US economy. This expectation is now under threat with the fall in US job creation in July and the sharp rise in the US unemployment rate to 4.3 per cent. "Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East also are a contributing factor," said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services. From the Sensex pack, Tata Motors, Maruti, Tata Steel, Infosys, Tech Mahindra and JSW Steel were the biggest laggards. On the contrary, Hindustan Unilever, <keyword id="20026907" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sun-pharma" source="keywords">Sun Pharma</keyword>, Nestle and Asian Paints were trading in the positive territory. Investors become poorer by Rs 9.51 lakh crore as markets crash

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 3 (ANI): Indian benchmark indices opened lower, in line with global market trends on Wednesday. At the opening, Sensex dropped by 296.27 points, or 0.39 per cent, to 73,608.94, while <keyword id="19896381" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nifty" source="keywords">Nifty</keyword> declined by 77.10 points, or 0.35 per cent, to 22,373.95. Among the Nifty companies, 17 witnessed advances while 33 experienced declines. Notable movements were observed in Shriram Finance, Hindalco, ONGC, Tech Mahindra, and Ultra Cement, emerging as the top gainers. Conversely, Nestle India, HDFC Life, Britannia, <keyword id="20026907" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sun-pharma" source="keywords">Sun Pharma</keyword>, and Bajaj Auto were among the top losers. This downward trajectory follows Tuesday's market performance, where domestic equity indices concluded a three-day rally, closing lower amidst subdued global cues. The Sensex fell by 110.64 points to 73,903.91, and the Nifty 50 settled lower by 8.70 points or 0.04 per cent at 22,453.30. Varun Agarwal, founder and managing director, Profit Idea said, "Market analysts noted that the Nifty 50 formed a small negative candle on the daily chart, indicating a potential pause in the upward momentum. However, the short-term trend remains positive, with crucial overhead resistance observed around the 22,500 levels." He added, "Additionally, Nifty Open Interest data revealed the highest Open Interest (OI) on the call side at the 22,700 and 22,800 strike prices, while on the put side, it was observed at the 22,300 strike price. On April 2nd, the Nifty 50 index closed lower by 8 points." In Asia, stocks witnessed a decline as robust economic data and higher commodity prices fueled speculation of prolonged central bank interest rate hikes. Futures contracts on US equities edged lower after the S&amp;P 500 and Nasdaq 100 dropped in Tuesday's trading. Treasuries stabilized after yields rose, with Australian and New Zealand yields climbing in early Asian trading. Indian benchmark indices open lower tracking global trends

Mumbai, Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty closed higher for the third straight session on Friday, following gains in index majors L&amp;T, ITC and Maruti and a record rally in the US markets after the Federal Reserve indicated three rate cuts this year. After falling in early trade, markets staged a smart recovery. The 30-share <keyword id="19895774" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bse" source="keywords">BSE</keyword> Sensex climbed 190.75 points or 0.26 per cent to settle at 72,831.94. However, a sharp correction in IT and tech stocks limited the rise. During the day, it jumped 474.43 points or 0.65 per cent to 73,115.62. The NSE Nifty advanced 84.80 points or 0.39 per cent to 22,096.75. From the Sensex basket, <keyword id="20026907" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sun-pharma" source="keywords">Sun Pharma</keyword>, Maruti, IndusInd Bank, Titan, ITC, <keyword id="19906967" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="keywords">Tata Motors</keyword>, Larsen &amp; Toubro and <keyword id="19971670" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jsw-steel" source="keywords">JSW Steel</keyword> were the major gainers. According to the report, Dr Reddy's Laboratories is recalling drugs to treat insomnia and gout in the American market. New Jersey-based Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Inc., a unit of Hyderabad-based drug major, is recalling 13,752 bottles of Eszopiclone tablets, the USFDA stated. The affected lot has been produced at Dr Reddy's Bachupally plant in Telangana. As per the USFDA, the drug firm is recalling the affected lot due to "Failed Impurities/Degradation Specifications". The company issued the Class III nationwide recall on June 4 this year. As per the USFDA, a Class III recall is initiated in a "situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product is not likely to cause adverse health consequences". Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Inc. is also recalling 20,520 units of Allopurinol tablets in the US market due to the "presence of foreign substance". The company initiated the Class II nationwide (US) recall on June 7, 2024, the US health regulator said. The USFDA said a US-based unit of Sun Pharma is recalling 2,088 vials of Decitabine for Injection (50mg per vial) due to "CGMP Deviations". The affected lot of the chemotherapy medication was produced at Sun Pharma's Gujarat-based manufacturing plant. New Jersey-based Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Inc. initiated the nationwide Class II recall on July 2 this year. As per the USFDA, a Class II recall is initiated in a situation in which the use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote. The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 408.86 points or 0.55 per cent to settle at a new record high of 74,085.99. During the day, it went up by 474.14 points or 0.64 per cent to hit an all-time high of 74,151.27. The Nifty climbed 117.75 points or 0.53 per cent to settle at a fresh closing peak of 22,474.05. During the day, it jumped 140.9 points or 0.63 per cent to reach its record high of 22,497.20. The benchmark indices traded lower in the first half of the session but early gains in European markets helped recoup losses in closed in the green. Sensex, Nifty hit new all-time high levels on gains in banking, IT shares

Mumbai, Benchmark Sensex declined by 195 points while Nifty slipped below the 22,400 level on Tuesday, snapping the four-day gaining streak due to losses in IT and FMCG shares amid weak global trends and foreign fund outflows. Taking a breather after a record-breaking rally, the 30-share BSE Sensex declined by 195.16 points or 0.26 per cent to settle at 73,677.13 due to profit taking. During the day, the barometer tanked 460.04 points or 0.62 per cent to a low of 73,412.25. The broader Nifty declined by 49.30 points or 0.22 per cent to close at 22,356.30. Sensex and Nifty closed at lifetime high levels on Monday after a four-day winning run which saw the indices rising by around 2 per cent. "The domestic market experienced range-bound movement post hitting new record high in the preceding day, influenced by cautious trend in global peers ahead of the Fed Chair's congressional testimony and key US jobs data. "The absence of significant stimulus measures from China further dampened sentiment," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services. Among Sensex firms, <keyword id="19950210" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bajaj-finserv" source="keywords">Bajaj Finserv</keyword> and <keyword id="19955371" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bajaj-finance" source="keywords">Bajaj Finance</keyword> fell by over 4 per cent each. The 30-share BSE Sensex benchmark climbed 281.52 points or 0.39 per cent to close at 72,708.16, while NSE Nifty ended at its all-time high of 22,122.25 points, up 81.55 points or 0.37 per cent from the previous close. The market capitalisation (mcap) of BSE-listed companies went up Rs 2,19,581.56 crore to reach its all-time high of Rs 3,91,69,087.01 crore. "BSE market cap touching a record high of around USD 4.7 trillion reflects the strength of the ongoing bull run and the momentum in the market. "The fact that the crucial <keyword id="20645886" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="buffet-ratio" source="keywords">Buffet Ratio</keyword> (market cap to GDP) is signalling very high valuation at above 120 per cent is a matter of concern.
