Raipur, Jul 11 () The number of COVID-19 cases in Chhattisgarh reached 3,897 on Saturday with 91 people testing positive in the last 24 hours, a health official said. Forty-two were discharged, taking the number of such cases to 3,070, while 17 people have died of the infection, leaving the state with 810 active cases, he added. While 65 new coronavirus cases were detected on Saturday, 26 people tested positive on Friday night, he said. Of the new cases, 36 were reported from Raipur, 24 from Balodabazar, nine from Bastar, six from Bilaspur, four from Koriya, three each from Surguja and Durg, two each from Korba and Narayanpur and one each from Kanker and Dhamtari, he said. With 638 cases so far, Raipur district tops the tally in the state, followed by Korba (342), Rajanandgaon (341), Bilaspur (292), Balodabazar (291), Janjgir-Champa (280), Jashpur (190), Durg (189), Balrampur (153), Raigarh (146), Mungeli (123) and Kabirdham (111), the official said. Raipur has reported over 500 cases in the last one month, while those which have so far reported less than 10 are Dhamtari (9), Sukma (6), Kondagaon (5) and Gaurela-Pendra- Marwahi (3), he said, adding that the infection had spread its footprint in all 28 districts of the state. Raipur, Jul 5 () The number of COVID-19 cases in Chhattisgarh increased to 3,207 on Sunday after 46 more people testing positive for the infection, a Health official said. The death toll so far stood at 14. A total of 52 patients were discharged from different hospitals in the day, taking the number of the recovered cases to 2,578, he said. Of the 46 new cases, 15 cases were reported from Raipur district, 11 from Korba, six from Koriya, five from Bilaspur, four from Surguja, three from Janjgir-Champa and two from Raigarh, he said. The number of active cases in the state now stands at 615, as 2,578 people have been recovered and 14 others have died so far. With total 427 cases so far, Raipur district tops the tally in the state, followed by Korba (319), Rajanandgaon (299), Janjgir-Champa (252), Balodabazar (245), Bilaspur (229), Jashpur (189), Durg (169), Balrampur (145), Raigarh (134), Mungeli (123) and Kabirdham (110), the official said. The districts which have so far reported less than 10 cases are Dhamtari (8), Sukma (5), Gaurela-Pendra Marwahi (3), Kondagaon (3) and Bijapur (2), he said. Meanwhile, the functioning of Chhattisgarh High Court has been closed till July 10, after an employee of the state's Advocate General (AG) office in the premises tested positive for the viral infection on Saturday. "In view of the identification of an employee as corona positive, the office of the AG, High Court of Chhattisgarh, Bilaspur, has been declared as closed till July 10," stated an order issued by incharge Registrar General of the HC. In order to prevent the possibility of spreading of the viral infection, the HC has also decided to temporarily close its functioning and all sections of Registry of HC from July 6 to July 10 subject to further notification, it stated. Raipur, Apr 13 () Two Naxals who surrendered inChhattisgarh's Sukma district have extended a helping hand inthe fight against coronavirus by preparing masks for policepersonnel and local people.Madkam Lakkha (31) and Reena Vekko (30), who workedwith Naxals in the forests of south Bastar, surrendered beforepolice in the last couple of years after realising that"violence brings nothing except pain".They have now joined the war against the coronaviruspandemic as they have realised that "helping people givesultimate happiness".Since the last 10 days, Lakkha and Vekko, along with apoliceman, have been engaged in stitching cloth masks in Sukmatown, located around 450 km from state capital Raipur."We have stitched around 1,000 masks so far. Thesemasks are not only being used by local people but also policepersonnel," Lakkha told over phone.Lakkha, who surrendered in August last year, workedwith Maoists in various capacities, including militiacommander-in-chief since joining the outlawed outfit in 2008.He also mentored a tailoring team of ultras and usedto stitch uniforms for senior cadres active in South Bastarand neighbouring Telangana."I am using my old skill and trying to support thepolice personnel who are working day and night during thelockdown. It is not a big contribution, but I am happy that Ican be useful to society in some way, he said.Lakkha also works with police in translating Maoistcommunications, that are mostly in local dialects, into Hindiwhich has helped the security forces in gathering vitalintelligence for counter-insurgency operations.Vekko, who quit the banned outfit in 2018 after beingactive as a hardcore rebel on Odisha-Chhattisgarh border forabout a decade, voluntarilyjoined Lakkha in producing masks.She was not familiar with tailoring work, but wastrained in it as part of the government's rehabilitationprogramme for surrendered rebels."We stitch around 100 to 120 masks in a day. Raipur, Apr 18 () The coronavirus-triggerednationwide lockdown has paralysed the supply chain of Maoistsin Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, which is likely to impacttheir conventional warfare strategy in the coming days, policeofficials claimed.As a result, the Naxals have now started snatching asignificant part of the ration distributed to villagers underthe Public Distribution System (PDS) in Bastar division duringthe ongoing crisis, the officials said.Bastar region, spread over an area of about 40,000 sqkm, is considered a stronghold of ultras and comprises sevendistricts of Dantewada, Bijapur, Bastar, Narayanpur,Kondagaon, Sukma and Kanker."As per the preliminary information, Maoists' supplynetworks are facing a challenge to operate due to therestrictions imposed to prevent the spread of virus. To meettheir need of essentials, Naxals are putting extra pressure onlocal villagers," Inspector General of Police (Bastar range)Sundarraj P told .In the past as well, the local militia cadres of theoutlawed CPI (Maoist) used to take ration from villagers andask them to cook food for their group of about 10-15 members,but the bigger formations of Naxals arrange food and essentialcommodities through their designated supply team, he said.Haat bazaars or village markets held in remote areasof Bastar, which have been closed due to the lockdown, servedas an ideal destination for Maoist couriers to procure rationand items of daily use. Naxals struggle as lockdown hits supply chain of essentials

Eleven personnel of the <keyword id="76600" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Central-Reserve-Police-Force">Central Reserve Police Force</keyword> (<keyword id="6354354" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="CRPF">CRPF</keyword>) were killed during an encounter with Maoists in <keyword id="43945" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chhattisgarh">Chhattisgarh</keyword>'s Sukma district. The encounter, which took place at around 12.25 pm, happened in the Burkapal-Chintagufa area, worst Maoist violence-affected district in south Bastar. As per initial reports, six jawans were injured in the attack. "The Naxals fired at a patrolling party of the CRPF near Burkapal village leaving six personnel injured," special director general (anti-Naxal operations) of Chhattisgarh Police, D M Awasthi told PTI. he jawans are from the 74th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). "A helicopter has already left for the spot to evacuate the injured. The encounter is still on," a senior officer said.
