Citing the pandemic and "other economic factors" <keyword id="2363030" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="sage-india" source="Orion">SAGE India</keyword>, a leading publisher of academic books, said on Thursday it was closing its publishing operation but would continue its "strong imported books" sales and journals publishing programme in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> and that it was "actively looking for a new home" for its book titles. "Over the past few years, we have experienced a particularly challenging business environment for book publishing in India due to the pandemic and other economic factors and as a result we have decided to close the SAGE India book publishing operation," <keyword id="14633821" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="smrithi-sudhakaran" source="Orion">Smrithi Sudhakaran</keyword>, Senior Manager-Marketing, <keyword id="14633820" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sage-publications-india-pvt-ltd" source="Orion">SAGE Publications India Pvt Ltd</keyword>, said in a statement to IANS. "This decision is very specific to books and does not impact our thriving journals publishing program, as well as our strong imported books sales in India. We are actively looking for a new home for our book titles and will make an announcement as soon as we are able. Meanwhile our book publishing operation is active until the point we transition it. We are continuing to support our authors and keeping in contact with them through this process. "Sadly, this decision inevitably is resulting in exit of some of our employees. Our aim is to carry out the transition with utmost respect and care to our people and we are helping them with extra ex gratia payments for easier transition as well as enabling access to outplacement services to assist them in finding placements," Sudhakaran said. Reports of SAGE India shutting its publishing operations had surfaced last week following a letter from its US-based CEO <keyword id="14634545" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="blaise-r-simqu" source="Orion">Blaise R. Simqu</keyword> that also cited "significant challenges and the pandemic". "We have recently made a very difficult but carefully thought through decision about the SAGE India book program. Over many years now our attempts to make domestic book publishing at SAGE India commercially viable have faced significant challenges and the pandemic has only made it more problematic. What we have reluctantly and unfortunately concluded is that despite these many efforts the combination of low-price points and the lack of an established adoption market as well as other external factors (including the prevailing <keyword id="8764262" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="covid" source="Orion">Covid</keyword> situation) have proved an impossible hurdle for us to climb despite our best efforts over the past several years... While we remain committed to our mission to support the dissemination of usable knowledge and to educate a global community, we have decided to divest the SAGE India book program," the letter said. "We want to reinforce that this decision is very specific to books, it does not affect our thriving domestic and imported journal publishing, nor the marketing and selling into India of imported Sage books that continues to be an important part of the international book program...," the letter, signed by Simqu and Sonia Kumar, executive lead for SAGE India and finance director, said. SAGE was founded in New York in 1965 and is currently headquartered in California. Its India arm was established by founder and chair Sara Miller McCune in 1981 together with <keyword id="14634546" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="george-mccune" source="Orion">George McCune</keyword> and Tejeshwar Singh. The publishing house specialises in books on social science, medicine, technology, science and humanities. The publications division of Sage India is the second to go under this year after the Indian arm of global e-tailer <keyword id="18635" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="amazon" source="Orion">Amazon</keyword> in February shut down Westland that it had acquired in 2017 and which published a range of popular and literary fiction, food and cooking, spirituality and self-help, biographies, health and wellness, history, general reference and travel books. Leading academic book publisher Sage India shuts publishing ops

AIADMK supremo and former <keyword id="20154" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword> chief minister J <keyword id="42104" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jayalalithaa">Jayalalithaa</keyword> scored a sensational legal victory on Monday, as the Karnataka high court acquitted her of all corruption charges in the 19 year old Rs 66.65-crore disproportionate assets case that had been hanging like an albatross around her neck for nearly two decades. 
 Justice C R Kumaraswamy overturned the September 27, 2014 verdict of a special court in <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword>. The judge also acquitted her associates - <keyword id="844490" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sasikala-Natarajan">Sasikala Natarajan</keyword>, her niece Ilavarasi, her nephew and the chief minister's disowned foster son <keyword id="870504" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sudhakaran">Sudhakaran</keyword>. 
 <keyword id="2845578" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bengaluru-special-judge">Bengaluru special judge</keyword> John Michael Cunha had sentenced Jayalalithaa to four years in jail and fined Rs 100 crore on September 27, 2014. She was convicted in the disproportionate assets case that was launched by Subramanian Swamy on 20 August 1996. 
 
The special court had sentenced Sasikala, Ilavarasi and Sudhakaran to four years in jail and fined Rs 10 crores each. 
 
The judgement by the special court had disqualified her from the post of CM and legislative assembly of Tamil Nadu. 
 
Now, her acquittal by the Karnataka high court means she can assume the chief minister's post. ​Jayalalithaa is expected to address the press on Monday. 
 
AIADMK supporters started celebrations as soon as the high court pronounced it verdict. They celebrated sweets. 
 
A large number of her supporters assembled in front of Jayalalithaa's residence in Chennai, expecting she will greet them soon. 
 
The party workers, who have been praying for her acquittal in the case, broke coconuts as thanksgiving.

A dynamic political leader, T<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Breaking-News-Jayalalithaa-laid-to-rest/articleshow/55835971.cms">amil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa</a> was also a sound business woman. The AIADMK leader, who no leader could match in terms of her flamboyant populism and superior leadership, left behind huge assets she accumulated in her lifetime. 
 
Here's an account of all that she left, as per official records: 
 
Real estate 
Jayalalithaa's massive 24,000 sqft residential property called Veda Nilayam in Poes Garden is valued at Rs 43.96 crore. The property was purchased by her mother in 1967 for Rs 1.32 lakh. 
 
Jayalalithaa owns 14.50 acres of farm land in Jeedimetla village in Ranga Reddy district in Telangana and 3.43 acres in Cheyyur Village in Kancheepuram village in Tamil Nadu. She had purchased the property in Telangana in 1968 along with her mother Sandhya and the Cheyyur property in 1981. 
 
She owns four commercial buildings, including one each here and in Hyderabad. According to reports, one of this property will belong to VN Sudhakaran, Jayalalithaa's once 'foster son' and nephew of Sasikala. 
 
Cars 
Jayalalithaa owned two Toyoto Prado SUVs, a Tempo Traveller, a Tempo Trax, a Mahindra Jeep, an Ambassador car of 1980 make, a Mahindra Bolero, a Swaraj Mazada Maxi, and a 1990 model Contessa. The nine vehicles are worth around Rs 42,25,000. 
 
Jewellery 
The value of her 21,280.300 grams of gold jewellery could not be ascertained as it was with the Karnataka government treasury in connection with the disproportionate assets case. She had, however, declared possession of 1,250 kg of silver articles valued at Rs 3,12,50,000. 
 
According to the affidavit filed for the RK Nagar constituency for the 2016 elections, Jayalalithaa owns movable assets worth Rs 41.63 crore and immovable assets Rs 72.09 crore. In the column on investment in companies, she said "various deposits and shares with companies have been seized by the police and with the custody of the court in case relating to Spl.C.C.No.208 of 2004 on the file of 36th Additional City Civil and Sessions Court, (Special Court) Bengaluru." The reference is with regard to the disproportionate assets case against her. 
 
Investments 
Jayalalithaa had made investments in five firms as a 'partner', which are together worth Rs 27.44 crore. These include Shri Jaya Publications, Sasi Enterprises, Kodanad Estate, Royal Valley Floritech Exports and Green T Estate, the affidavit stated. 
 
As per the last declaration, she had Rs 41,000 cash in hand, listed Rs 2.04 crore as liabilities and declared agriculture in the profession-occupation column.
