<keyword id="92696" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Strides-Arcolab">Strides Arcolab</keyword> Ltd and <keyword id="1493170" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shasun">Shasun</keyword> Pharmaceuticals have announced their merger. As per the merger deal, Shasun “will be amalgamated with and into Strides. Shasun shareholders will receive five (equity) shares of Strides for every 16 shares held by them in Shasun.” 
 Shasun shareholders will own 26% of the combined entity, and will set up a vertically integrated <keyword id="6363818" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Pharma">pharma</keyword> company with multiple revenue streams. 
 
Strides Arcolab, which also made a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange, said a scheme of amalgamation between the two companies has got the nod of the board of directors of both companies. 
 
“The combination creates a vertically-integrated pharma company of scale with strong presence in front-ended regulated markets finished dosages, emerging markets branded generics, institutional business, active pharmaceutical ingredients and contract research and manufacturing services,” the press release of Strides said. The merger is likely to materialise by June next year.

The government has approved FDI worth around Rs. 4,000 Crores for four pharma and medical devices firms. 
 
The accepted list includes Torrent Pharmaceuticals and Biocon's Syngene. However, Strides Arcolab was not allowed to issue shares to non-resident and resident equity shareholders of Shasun Pharmaceuticals. Three other drug companies’ applications have been delayed. 
 
The government’s decision to allow Torrent Pharmaceuticals' Rs. 3,000 Crores proposal for increasing FII limit to 35% from 13.09% was the biggest today. Syngene's proposal to raise FDI of about Rs. 930 Crores by raising the foreign investment to 44% from the current 10% was the second biggest in the pharmacy sector today. 
 
Others given approval are Stericat Gut Strings Pvt Ltd for FDI of Rs 43.52 Crores as it wants to sell 77.5% of its shares to Groupe Peters Surgical LLC 
 
Ordain Health Care Global Pvt Ltd was also allowed FDI of Rs. 23.34 Crore to buy assets from Alkems Fertica. 
 
The list whose proposals were delayed includes Celon Laboratories, Shantha Biotechnics and Sparsha Pharma International.

Whopping Rs. 4,000 Crores FDI boost for Indian Pharma

Shares of medicine makers were mostly higher in weak trade on Friday as investors sought the safety of predictable revenue and profit streams coupled with the potential of higher-than-expected sales following the depreciation in the <keyword id="6355302" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rupee">Rupee</keyword>. The Rupee fell to a fresh 2-year low versus the Dollar as a global turmoil in currencies and <keyword id="6354298" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="stocks">stocks</keyword> roiled Indian shores. A fall in the value of the Rupee helps leading pharma companies as nearly 60 percent of the revenue comes from overseas and a majority of that is from the <keyword id="6356955" type="COUNTRY" weightage="100" keywordseo="united-states">United States</keyword>. 

	As a result, 6 out of 11 pharma stock futures posted gains with rising open interest and four pharma companies hit fresh highs in an overall market that has slumped to 2-month lows.
 Strides Arcolabs gained 1.8 percent to 1,343 rupees. Divi's Labs was up 1.4 percent to 2,435 rupees. Auro Pharma rose 1.6 percent to 810 rupees. Glenmark Pharma was up 13 percent to 1,231 rupees. <keyword id="6357157" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cipla">Cipla</keyword> rose 0.7 percent to 697.30 rupees. and <keyword id="44642" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sun-Pharma">Sun Pharma</keyword> added 0.3 percent to 936.50 rupees.

Medicine makers end the week on a high note at Dalal Street

The <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword> and the <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> managed to hold on to their early morning gains on Tuesday as 3 days of relentless selling saw the market hit a fresh 14-month low. However, the quality of stocks taking the indices higher is nothing to talk about. Hence, the markets could come under selling pressure in the latter half of the day. <keyword id="87658" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="banking-stocks">Banking stocks</keyword> are in demand, mainly on account of short covering after sustained selling on these lenders saw many of them trade at 52 week lows. 
 Investors also took heart from a meeting held by Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> in which all top industrialists and the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India were invited to discuss the state of play on the Indian economy against the backdrop of the global economic turmoil and its impact on stocks.

Markets could come under selling pressure in latter half of the day despite early morning gains

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=%E2%80%8BIndian+stocks">Indian stocks</a> had a tepid start on Monday as traders turned sellers after the fifth weekly rise in a row on major benchmarks. Weak earnings from some blue chips also hurt sentiment on <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Dalal+Street">Dalal Street</a> where negative moves were seen on Banking, Infrastructure and Pharma companies. 
 The Nifty traded 4 points higher at 8,300 at the start of play with Bajaj Auto, Hindalco, HCL Tech, Tata Power and Hero Motor gaining traction in the first half hour of trade. Slippages were seen on Asian Paints, Coal India, Yes Bank, HDFC Bank and Cipla. The Advance-Decline Ratio stood at 30/20 on the Nifty and Dr. Reddy's, Asian Paints, and Axis Bank were the top traded counters on the <keyword id="53581" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="NATIONAL-STOCK-EXCHANGE">National Stock Exchange</keyword>. 
 
Asian Paints was the top loser on the Nifty after its quarterly earnings disappointed. 
 
Broader markets were flat with major indices trading sideways. The trend was mixed in the sectoral space with modest gains observed on the Auto, Metals and IT sectors. 
 
The Sensex gained 61 points, or 0.2 percent, to 27,532 points on the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Bombay+Stock+Exchange">Bombay Stock Exchange</a>. Tata Steel, Vedanta, Maruti and Wipro were among the gainers on the Index while TCS, ITC and NTPC showed slippages. The Advance-Decline Ratio stood at 24/6 and Axis Bank, Lupin and Sun Pharma were the three top traded stocks on the Index. 
 Bulls slipped on <keyword id="6355178" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Dalal-Street">Dalal Street</keyword> with 957 shares falling compared with just 920 that gained ground on the BSE. 
 
Mid Cap gainers dominated trade in the derivatives segment with futures of IGL, Exide and Dabur gaining strongly. Slippages were seen on Bharat Forge, Strides Arcolabs and Cadila Health's futures. 
 
Simplex Projects, Rane Brake Lining and Maharashtra Scooters were some stocks figuring on the volume buzzers list on the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=National+Stock+Exchange">National Stock Exchange</a>.

Here's how the Markets opened today

Indian stocks fell for the third day on Wednesday as traders remained fence sitters ahead of the monthly expiry of futures contracts and major earnings mostly disappointed. 
 
The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Nifty">Nifty</a> fell 30 points to trade at 8,203 in early deals. Axis Bank, Cairn, ICICI Bank, Adani Ports and Lupin were the top losers on the index while bit buying was observed on Kotak Bank, Asian Paints, GAIL, Bharti Airtel and BHEL. The <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword>'s Advance-Decline Ratio sttod at 22/28. 
 
Axis Bank, M&amp;M and Lupin were the top traded stocks on the Nifty. Unitech, Castex Technology and Vedanta were the other stocks on the top traded list. Kotak Bank was the top gainer on the Index while Axis Bank was the top loser. 
 
Broader markets weakened further with the CNX 100, CNX 200 and the CNX 500 benchmarks dropping 0.3 percent each. Bit gains were observed on the small cap and the mid cap space. The sectoral space was mostly a victim to profit booking as well. Benchmarks tracking the Finance, banking, energy and pharma sectors lost between 0.3-0.9 percent. 
 
Sentiment was weak on the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Bombay+Stock+Exchange">Bombay Stock Exchange</a> too with the Sensex dropping 122 points, or 0.5 percent, to 27,132 points. Tata Steel, Hindustan Unilever were among the gainers while Infosys, Bajaj Auto and Dr. Reddy's saw more sellers than buyers. 
 
Axis Bank, Maruti and Lupin were the top traded stocks on the Sensex. The Advance-Decline Ratio stood at 11/19. 
 
Broader markets, however, saw bulls regaining strength with 1,040 shares gaining compared with 733 that fell. 
 
The derivatives segment saw an evenly matched trade on the last day of the monthly expiry with 82 shares falling versus 83 that rose. SKS Micro, NCC and Strides Arcolab Futures were top gainers while futures of Bharat Forge and Petronet LNG saw short sales.

 The Nifty fell 96 points to 7,558, its day's low. Suitably, the Advance-Decline Ratio stood at 7/43. NMDC, Bosch, Vedanta, Axis Bank and <keyword id="6653" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="ICICI-bank">ICICI Bank</keyword> were the top 5 losers on the Nifty whereas Tech Mahindra, HDFC, Yes Bank, ACC and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra posted modest gains. 
 
ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and HDFC were the top 3 traded stocks on the Nifty. 
 Not one single index posted gains. The CNX 100, CNX 200, CNX 500 and CNX Mid Cap Indices lost between 1.5-2.2 percent. Sectorial indices fell further. The <keyword id="151330" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bank-Nifty">Bank Nifty</keyword> dropped 2.1% to 15790 points. CNX Metal, CNX Pharma and CNX PSU Bank Indices were the top losers. 
 The <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> dropped 309 points, or 1.2 percent, to 24,894 points. Dr. Reddy's, Sun Pharma, Coal India, NTPC and ITC posted losses, while HDFC, ONGC and <keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword> edged up. The Advance-Decline Ratio was 4/26. 
 
ICICI Bank, State Bank of India and Axis Bank were the top 3 traded stocks on the Sensex. 
 The mood was bearish in the futures and options space as well with front month <keyword id="109714" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nifty-futures">Nifty futures</keyword> dipping 1.3 percent to 7,563 points. All 18 sectors lost ground with Auto, Pharma and Textile futures showing the worst losses. The Advance-Decline Ratio was 23/138. Amtek Auto, Wockhardt Pharma and Strides Arcolabs's Futures were top losers while PTC, Reliance Capital and Tech Mahindra shone in trade. 
 
Thiru Arooran Sugars, Bannari Amman Spinning Mills and Financial Technologies made it to the top volume buzzers list while Adani Enterprises, Allahabad Bank, Andhra Bank and Bhushan Steel were on the list of stocks hitting 52-week lows

This is how the markets performed today

The <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword> showed a mild shade of green in early deals on Tuesday as traders covered some short positions after 3 days of relentless selling that pushed the market to fresh 14-month lows. 
 The Nifty rose 26 points, or 0.4 percent, to 7,585 points in early deals, recovering from an intra-day low of 7,540 points. Yes Bank, <keyword id="6357147" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Steel">Tata Steel</keyword>, GAIL, PNB and Tata Motors were the top 5 gainers on the Nifty while Cairn, Cipla, Lupin, Vedanta and Bosch continued to remain under selling pressure. The Advance-Decline Ratio on the Index was 30:20. Axis Banks, State Bank of India and ICICI Bank were the three top traded stocks on the National Stock Exchange and all of them quoted in positive territory. 
 The <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> added 70 points to 24,963 at the start of trade on the Bombay Stock Exchange. The proceedings were dominated by lenders. Axis Bank, Hindalco, NTPC and Hero Motors were among the top 10 gainers while Cipla, Hindustan Unilever, Bharti <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword> and Dr. Reddy's remained in the red. As a consequence, the Advance-Decline Ratio was 16/14 on the Sensex. 
 
Axis Bank, Larsen and SBI were the top traded stocks on the BSE. 
 
The broader market showed traction in early deals. Smart gains were seen on sectors such as CNX Realty, CNX Metals, BSE Power and BSE PSU Indices. But the Advance-Decline Ratio favoured the bears with just 625 stocks rising compared with 973 that lost ground on the BSE. 
 The Derivatives space showed some positive action even though bears were seen resuming control on the F&amp;O market. Shriram Transport, Hexaware, JSW Energy were top gaining futures, while Amtek Auto, Amara Raja Batteries and Strides Arcolab futures dipped in trade. The Advance-Decline Ratio was 71/85 in this part of the market. However, banks showed a strong start on Tuesday with all 22 banking futures exhibiting smart gains in initial trades. Those beaten down the most came back the strongest. Therefore, Punjab National Bank, Yes Bank, Canara Bank and Bank of India were the top gaining futures in the banking space. As a consequence, the <keyword id="151330" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bank-Nifty">Bank Nifty</keyword> gained 157 points, or 1 percent, to 15,939 points. Modest gains were also seen on its peers, the CNX Finance and the CNX PSU Bank Indices. 
 
Stocks making it to the top volumes buzzers list were Indian Hume Pipe Company, Marksans Pharma, Simplex Projects and Ramkrishna Forgings. The list of stocks hitting 52 week lows was populated by Allahabad Bank, Andhra Bank, Dhanlaxmi Bank and EID Parry to name a few companies.
