<ul><li>Tamil Nadu is going to poll for the first time in the second phase of the 2019 Parliamentary elections in India.</li></ul><ul><li>The Neduvasal hydrocarbon project and Chennai-Salem expressway project driven by the central government have faced severe public outrage. </li></ul><ul><li>The Narendra Modi government’s stance on imposing a central exam for medical college admissions has further tilted the scales in favour of its rivals.</li></ul><ul><li>While the country’s largest copper smelter operated by Sterlite has been shut by court order, the police firing that killed 14 protestors in 2018 is still fresh in the voters’ minds. </li></ul><ul><li>The blame for the shootout in Tuticorin fell on the ruling state government under AIADMK, which is now fighting the Parliamentary elections in alliance with the BJP. </li></ul>The voters of one of India’s <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/economy/indicators/himachal-pradesh-tamil-nadu-and-kerala-top-ranking-in-sdg-index-niti-aayog/articleshow/67192585.cms">relatively developed states</a>, Tamil Nadu, are an angry lot. A series of missteps by the Narendra Modi government meant that their indignation has been directed towards the incumbent alliance between the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). On the other side is the coalition between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Indian National Congress, the Left Front, and a set of other local parties that significance within certain segments-- either geographically or among specific sections of the electorate. While there are other regional outfits and smaller coalitions in the fray, including the iconic movie star Kamal Hasan who is making his electoral debut, almost <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/elections/lok-sabha-elections-2019/tamil-nadu/news/tamil-nadu-poll-survey-says-dmk-front-to-get-30-33-lok-sabha-seats/articleshow/68784727.cms">all opinion polls</a> in the run up to the elections have handed a landslide to the challengers led by the DMK and Congress. There are at least four big decisions that work against the incumbent <keyword id="5013725" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="AIADMK-BJP-Alliance">AIADMK-BJP alliance</keyword>. A small oil field In 2015, the <a href="https://www.downtoearth.org.in/news/energy/no-noble-gases-57750">Modi government approved a project to dig</a> for oil and natural gas from a 10 square kilometre field in Neduvasal, in Pudukottai district. The reason being the oil field was located in one of the more fertile parts of Tamil Nadu’s delta region around the Cauvery river. The proposal to dig for oil in the region scratched the wounds of an existing wound in the minds of the local farmers. A standoff with the neighbouring state of Karnataka over <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/a-brief-history-of-the-cauvery-dispute/tale-of-two-states/slideshow/63698683.cms">the sharing of Cauvery’s water</a> is decades old. Even after a settlement ordered by the Supreme Court, the farmers’ in Tamil Nadu’s rice bowl feel parched as well as wronged by the system. Farmers were caught by surprise when they were asked to give up their land to extract oil, while they were still hoping to their share of water to till the land. A big highway Farmers have been up in arms in five other districts too, far away from Neduvasal. The point of contention is an eight-lane expressway stretching nearly 280 kilometres west from the state capital Chennai to the industrial town of Salem. Once again the BJP has found itself in the firing line of the voters as it continues to push for the project despite stiff resistance that the party’s rivals have capitalised on. The Madras High Court on April 8 quashed the land acquisition process for the Chennai-Salem Expressway project. The challenging coalition led by Congress and the DMK have vowed to scrap the project if voted to power. A medical entrance test Seventeen-year-old Anitha, an aspiring medical student, committed suicide in September 2017 after she failed to clear the then newly-introduced medical entrance exam, that goes by the acronym NEET. The National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) replaced the admission tests for medical colleges across the country with a centralised process. The <a href="https://www.thenewsminute.com/article/why-neet-election-issue-tamil-nadu-98604">people’s resentment against NEET</a> stems from the view that it puts local students, even the high-scorers, at a disadvantage because the curriculum is structured based on the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which is different from the state syllabus. The state administration’s high-handed approach in the wake of protests, and <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/elections/story/piyush-goyal-neet-tamil-nadu-bjp-aiadmk-1500468-2019-04-12">the BJP’s persistence</a> on imposing NEET, has only hurt the alliance’s chances in the state. Once again, BJP’s rivals have promised to let states decide the mode of admission into medical colleges. The <a href="https://www.livemint.com/Politics/QgYD6W50rev6VcHmGs9GKP/NEET-protests-More-states-join-the-fight.html">protests against NEET was not unique</a> to Tamil Nadu, but the outrage in the southern state was the most severe. Tamil Nadu is known for its huge population of aspiring doctors. The state has 22 medical colleges, among the highest in the country, and 4 doctors for every 1,000 people, <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/6-states-have-more-doctors-than-whos-11000-guideline/articleshow/65640694.cms">nearly at par with</a> developed countries like Norway and Sweden. Despite the enduring resentment, Tamil Nadu had the <a href="http://www.newindianexpress.com/education/2019/feb/03/tamil-nadu-has-the-highest-number-of-doctors-who-cleared-pg-neet-1933745.html">maximum number of students</a> clearing the NEET exam in 2019. The shootout In May 2018, The Tamil Nadu Police <a href="https://www.thenewsminute.com/article/sterlite-violence-video-shows-policemen-taking-aim-and-shooting-protesters-81744">opened fire at a sea of protestors</a> outside the country’s largest copper smelter, operated by Sterlite, a Vedanta Group company. More than 10 people died in the shootout and the public anger that swelled further poured on the ruling state government led by the AIADMK. Sterlite’s plant was accused of violating pollution norms, causing fatal health issues to its workers and the population in its vicinity. Local protests against the plant have been underway in patches since 1996, and they escalated once again in 2018 leading up to the <a href="https://www.tribuneindia.com/news/editorials/tuticorin-massacre/594415.html">‘Tuticorin Massacre’</a>. Subsequent probe and judicial inquiry revealed gaping regulatory lapses, eventually leading to the closure of the plant pending investigations and corrections. The London-based Vedanta Group has been a big donor to <a href="https://www.thequint.com/news/india/sterlite-congress-bjp-fcra-violation-finance-bill-amendments">both the BJP and the Congress</a> between 2004 and 2015. However, BJP also found itself further on the wrong side of the debate soon after the issue came to the fore, as some of its leaders tried to colour some of the protestors as anti-social elements.

 Going into the 2019 elections, the party is in alliance with the regional party, AIADMK, which bore the brunt of the public anger. A year on, the memory of the lethal attack on protestors is still fresh among voters, particularly in the region. As is the outrage against NEET, the Chennai-Salem expressway, and the proposed oil field in Neduvasal. The odds are heavily stacked against the AIADMK-BJP alliance. This is the first-time in decades that Tamil Nadu is going to polls without a strong, regional leader to back. Over decades, a series of larger-than-life leaders, with their share of taints, from <a href="https://www.firstpost.com/india/cn-annadurai-legacy-of-a-dravidian-stalwart-6007351.html">CN Annadurai</a> to <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/magazine/cover-story/story/19880115-m.g.-ramachandran-death-marks-the-passing-of-an-era-of-stability-in-tamil-nadu-796866-1988-01-15">MG Ramachandran</a> to <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/karunanidhi-1924-2018/newslist/65311339.cms">M Karunanidhi</a> and <a href="https://frontline.thehindu.com/cover-story/jayalalithaas-legacy/article9435860.ece">J Jayalalitha</a> had turned Tamil Nadu into a politically unbreachable fortress for national parties. The mandate kept passing between the DMK and AIADMK for years. However, the passing away of Karunanidhi and Jayalalitha in recent years has left a political vacuum that the national parties intended to capitalise on. Neither the BJP nor the Congress by itself has made any significant headway so far.

The final placement season of the institute saw the participation of 411 students, who received over 450 offers across job profiles from the top recruiters. A total of 162 pre-placement offers were given to the students before the beginning of the final placements based on their performances during the summer internship out of which 133 offers were accepted by the students.

 IIM Bangalore played host to most leading global banks on the first-day of the Final Placements. Goldman Sachs made 14 offers, including PPOs. The Bombay Stock Exchange (<keyword id="35140" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BSE">BSE</keyword>) <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> hit 28,000-mark once again. The National Stock Exchange (<keyword id="6354646" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="NSE">NSE</keyword>) <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword> also rose by 22 points and surpassed the 8,400-mark in the early morning trade today. 
 
The BSE Sensex rose by 122.45 points (0.44%) to reach 28,010.35. According to a PTI report, “all the sectoral indices, led by capital goods, metal and auto, were trading in positive zone with gains up to 1.18.” 
 
Similarly, NSE Nifty rose by 22.00 points (0.26%) and reached 8,417.45. According to market analysts, inflow of capital, positive manufacturing output data for December and hopes of more economic reforms helped boost trading sentiments. 
 
Companies which gained the most were: L&amp;T, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, National Thermal Power Corporation, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Reliance Industries Limited, Sesa Sterlite, Sun Pharma, Axis Bank, Bajaj Auto, BHEL, Cipla, Hero MotoCorp, Hindalco, Hind Unilever, TCS, Wipro, Tata Power and Tata Steel. 
 
In the Asian markets, Japan's Nikkei went down by 0.72% and Hong Kong's Hang Seng declined by 0.66%.

Sensex Reclaims 28,000-mark, Nifty Too Crosses 8,400

In recent years, many of the power projects in India have faced regulatory hurdles, fuel security issues and even lack of clarity regarding fuel pricing (imported gas and coal) and power tariffs. Owing to which, some of these projects made their way in the category of non-performing assets (NPAs), despite not having any credit problems. In India, an asset is regarded as an NPA if it is unable to repay a loan for a consecutive 90 days.
 And now on account of a new rule introduced by the Reserve <keyword id="6355303" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bank-of-India">Bank of India</keyword> (RBI), which makes it mandatory for banks to provide for debt debts in case the cost of a power project goes up by 10% as against the original estimate owing to delay, banks are facing the prospect of at least Rs 1.5 lakh crore of their loans to around two dozen power projects turning non-performing. This was revealed in an Economic Times report. 

	This issue, which has been flagged to the RBI and top government officials, is much bigger as many projects fail to get fresh funding from lenders, said bankers.
 According to a top <keyword id="48669" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="banker">banker</keyword>, "The RBI had allowed us to fund projects that are delayed but which bank will be willing to set aside Rs 100 for a loan of Rs 100?" 

	One of the bank chiefs told the ET, "It is not just the impact on banks but also the adverse affect on the economy, which is suffering due to lack of infrastructure."
 The cost overrun for projects of some top private players such as Reliance, Adani, Jindal, Sterlite, GMR and Hindujas as well as public sector companies such as <keyword id="45179" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NTPC">NTPC</keyword> IS UP TO 62%. From the scheduled date of commercial operation, some of the projects are delayed by up to four years. Banks are grappling with record NPAs, resulting in Bank of India reporting its first loss in two decades. Other top lenders such as <keyword id="6653" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ICICI-bank">ICICI Bank</keyword>, Bank of Baroda and <keyword id="62034" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Punjab-National-Bank">Punjab National Bank</keyword> witnessed a sharp fall in profits as they had to set aside funds for loans that had turned sticky.

Rs 1.5 lakh cr used to finance projects will soon turn NPAs under new RBI law

The <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword> is likely to remain firm but in a sideways trend on Tuesday despite strong Asian cues. Some local buying is likely to spill over from the previous day as investors look for beaten down valuations after the markets overcame the Greek-EU vote. 
 
The forthcoming earnings season, starting with TCS later this week, and the spread of the monsoon are likely to impact markets in the short term. The Nifty is likely to face resistance at 8,570 levels on the upper side, while no long positions should be held if the Index dips below 8,420 levels. However, foreign institutional investors were net sellers on Index futures on Monday, pointing to the possibility of a slight dip on the Nifty today. 
 
Stocks closed in positive territory yesterday, led by export-oriented software, pharma and textiles companies, as the bulls took advantage of a gap down opening on the Nifty to buy into lower prices. This action is likely to be followed up in trade today.

out for in the markets today

In traditional Indian method, sons and daughters of a company’s owner take up top posts and the succession goes on. However, <keyword id="894518" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vendanta-Group">Vendanta Group</keyword>’s owner Anil Agarwal wants to do away with the system and has planned something else. 
 
The founder of the $12.9 billion Vedanta group wants to appoint professional managers rather than kin to top posts. 
 
"As far as succession goes, I am still in command and I am getting all professional chief executives as I do not want a family member to be chief executive of the company," Agarwal, 61, said in an exclusive interview to Economic Times. 
 
"I believe this company should be run by the people. At the same time, family members also bring in some value,” he said. 
 
The financial daily reported that Agarwal, who rose from being a metal scrap dealer to build India's largest natural resources company in the past five decades, has two children-Agnivesh and Priya. His brothers Navin and Pravin, closely associated with Vedanta, also have two children each. 
 
Agnivesh is chairman of Hindustan Zinc, while Priya has been on the Cairn India board as non-executive director since 2012. 
 
Based in Dubai, Agnivesh runs his own business recovering metal from scrap and also manages group unit Fujairah Gold. The United Arab Emirates is also home to the group's precious metals refinery that can process 50 million tonne of gold and 110 million tonne of silver annually. 
 
Agnivesh also acquired a 60% stake in Chennai-based medical diagnostic chain Primex Healthcare in 2012 in his personal capacity. 
 
Priya has been a public relations professional with Ogilvy &amp; Mather and spearheaded the media campaign that sought to give a more friendly aspect to the controversial resources and mining major. 
 Navin is non-executive director of Vedanta Ltd, a subsidiary of the London-listed <keyword id="99389" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Vedanta-Resources">Vedanta Resources</keyword>, of which Anil Agarwal is chairman emeritus. Navin has two sons--Naivedya and Ananya. Pravin Agarwal is a whole-time director of Sterlite Technologies, one of India's largest optic fibre cable makers and based in Pune. His sons Ankit and Pratik run the group's ports and power transmission businesses. 
 
"I don't see world over natural resources companies run by families. Our oil and gas business can be run by shareholders as it has become so big that it need not be run by family members,” said Agarwal. 
 
His mandate is to run the company as chief executive and hire the best managers besides formalising and executing a growth strategy. Such professionals know technology and can look at the bigger picture from the perspective of having run large projects for global natural resources companies. 
 
"They are focused on sustainability, an environment policy and our team learns to run companies professionally," he told ET. "I would like to see Vedanta as a transparent and professionally run company... by the people and for the people." 
 
Agarwal sees this as a natural progression. "I think I am going to work for another five years to make sure it is run professionally. I have lots of other opportunities. A Vedanta veteran said the brothers have worked in harmony to build the business,” he added. 
"Once companies reach a large size, it needs professional leaders. Children are not always competent or interested in taking forward the father's business," Mita Dixit, co-founder and head, family business advisory, Equations Management Consulting told ET. "Shareholders are active and want the company to be run in a transparent manner to deliver results... It is prudent to have someone with relevant experience and expertise to run the show."

Anil Agarwal, Vedanta Group's owner, chooses professional managers over kin for top posts

India's benchmark indices hit fresh all-time intraday high today in a tepid session. 
 
At 02:20 p.m.; the 50-share index was at 6,588.65, up 5.15 points, or 0.08 per cent. It touched an all-time intraday high of 6,595.45 and a low of 6,544.85 in trade today. 
 The S&amp;P BSE <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> was at 22,061.36, up 5.88 points or 0.03 per cent. It touched an all-time high of 22,079.96 and a low of 21,916.87 in trade today. 
 Stock market analysts are all fervent about the fact that the current market rally is being driven on hopes of a stable government post coming elections, but <keyword id="6355261" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Finance-minister">Finance Minister</keyword> <keyword id="43940" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="P-Chidambaram">P Chidambaram</keyword> finds this amusing. 
 
"I am amused to read in some sections of the media that it is the 'hope' of a stable government that is bringing in investments and driving up the capital market and the value of the rupee," the finance minister was quoted as saying by PTI. 
 "It's not 'hope', but the 'fact' of a stable government provided by the UPA and the numerous measures taken in the last 18 months that have provided stability and strength to the <keyword id="6356076" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="indian-economy">Indian economy</keyword>," he said. 
 
Chidambaram said this on a campaign rally in support of his son Karti in Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu. 
 
"If there is any hope that is driving the market, I believe it is the hope that the new government will follow the 10-point agenda that I had spelt out in my Interim Budget speech on 17.2.2014". 
 
"I can assure the people and the investors that a Congress-led government will faithfully implement the ten-point agenda". 
 Talkign about the recent market rally, William De Vijlder, CIO-Strategy, BNP Paribas Investment Partners told ET Now: "Ever since there was talk that Mr <keyword id="6354642" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Modi">Modi</keyword> would play a key role in the political landscape going forward in India, of course the market has reacted to that positively. So, I can only say that there has been quite a bit of anticipation already and that means that if he comes out of the elections as a strong man, then the first 100 days, the honeymoon days, will be very important.” 
 
“What will be absolutely crucial in an environment where there has been a lot of anticipation already, is that the decisions which are announced and measures which are taken, they are sufficiently ambitious and also credible,” he added. 
 
"Since last July, day upon day, polls have been suggesting a stable government at the Centre and added has added to the market momentum besides other factors ... we expect this rally to continue for some more time till the elections are due. So, anything in the range of 6,900 is what we expect," Ravi Muthukrishnan, ICICI Securities, told ET Now today. 
 
Says Sudip Bandyopadhyay, President, Destimoney Securities, "there is an expectation of a stable government after a long-long time which people are expecting will deliver the goods, but there are still some uncertainties in the horizon." 
 
LKP Securities said in a note today: "with the general expectations of a stable government, the rally has legs of improvement." 
 
The S&amp;P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.57 per cent and the S&amp;P BSE Smallcap Index was 0.14 per cent higher. 
 
Among the sectoral indices, the S&amp;P BSE Capital goods Index was up 1.35 per cent, the S&amp;P BSE Power Index advanced 1.79 per cent and the S&amp;P BSE Bankex Index was 0.50 per cent higher. 
 
The S&amp;P BSE Oil &amp; gas Index fell 1.78 per cent, the S&amp;P BSE IT Index was 0.49 per cent lower and the S&amp;P BSE Healthcare Index slipped 0.02 per cent. 
 Shares of Reliance Industries were and ONGC under pressure after the Election Commission asked the <keyword id="46040" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Oil-ministry">Oil Ministry</keyword> to defer the increase in gas prices that was to take effect from April 1, saying that the decision should be left to the government that's formed after the general election, with the Aam Aadmi Party's <keyword id="260213" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword> taking credit for the move. 
 
The decision will put consumers and producers such as Reliance Industries and ONGC in a quandary because the hike has been stalled after the oil ministry's notification that the new rates would apply from the start of next month. 
 <keyword id="6354446" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="BHEL">BHEL</keyword> (up 3.99 per cent), Hero MotoCorp (up 2.35 per cent), HDFC (up 1.32 per cent), <keyword id="6357147" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Tata-Steel">Tata Steel</keyword> (up 1.31 per cent) and <keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword> (up 1.31 per cent) were among the major Sensex gainers. 
 Reliance Industries (2.87 per cent), ONGC (1.76 per cent), <keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword> (1.66 per cent), Sesa Sterlite (1.12 per cent) and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories (0.77 per cent) were among the index losers. 
 
The market breadth was negative on the BSE with 1148 gainers against 1605 losers.

Markets Make New High; Chidambaram Mocks Experts, Says It's UPA Rally

However, the fundamentals are yet to show signs of a turnaround. As a result, our valuations too reflect a cautious optimism. 
 
For June 14, Considering the free float market capitalization at the MRP of individual stocks and the share price data as of 30th September, the Nifty@MRP comes out to be 8003.77. On 30th September, NSE Nifty index closed at 7964.8, which is 0.5% or 39 points below the Nifty@MRP of 8003.77. It indicates that the index is fairly-valued. 
 
On similar lines, the Sensex@MRP comes out to 26341. On 30th September, the Sensex closed at 26630.5, which is about 1% or 290 points above Sensex@MRP of 26341. 
 
So, were we surprised with this valuation? Well, to be honest we were slightly surprised to see the Nifty fairly valued at 8003! But the valuations of the individual Nifty companies were done prior to arriving at a value for Nifty@MRP. Each company has been valued separately with rigour. The Nifty@MRP value is merely an outcome of these individual valuations. 
 
The sectors that have majorly contributed to this spurt in the Nifty@MRP value are Banking, Pharma, IT and Auto. The turnaround in banking sector was expected as in Dec 2013, the economy was still in doldrums and the threat of NPAs loomed large. With economy expected to grow and banks taking decisive steps towards curbing NPAs, our valuations too have started to reflect the growth potential in the sector. Recovery in industrial sector is expected to give a boost to Auto, while the US recovery will support growth in the IT sector. Our close analysis of data in the Pharma sector suggests huge growth potential in a few companies, which has been thereby reflected in our valuation. 
 
Analysis of the June 14 Quarter financial performance of the Nifty 50 companies 
 
Quarterly Performance 
While on a yearly basis, the companies seemed to have performed well, we can still see a degrowth on a Q-o-Q basis. In fact, net profits continue to decline for a third consecutive quarter. Sectors like FMCG, Pharma, IT, Banks and Auto have shown good performance in this quarter. While sectors like Cement, Metals, Energy and Capital Goods have not yet shown signs of improvement. 
 
With respect to financial performance leaders include Dr. Reddys Laboratories, HCL Technologies, Asian Paints, ITC, HUL, Bank of Baroda, Lupin, PNB, Tata motors Ltd. While the list of laggards includes companies like ACC, BHEL, Cairn India Ltd., DLF, GAIL, NTPC, Sesa Sterlite, Tata Steel. The quarterly results of all Nifty companies except ONGC, BPCL and Tata Motors were in line with our expectations. 
 
Overall, Q1FY14 results show the continued weakness in the economy, with deceleration in net sales, weak pricing power and high interest costs reflecting in the profit degrowth. With RBI seemingly on a path to continue high interest rates may further lead to deterioration in companies with stressed balance sheet. However, with China slowing down and US crude output increasing, we expect India to be a key beneficiary of falling global commodity prices. We believe this would aid the recovery in the Indian economy even though it would be a slow and gradual process as India kick starts its asset-creation program. 
 
Over all, out of 50 Nifty companies, around 18 companies are trading below their MRP (under-valued), 8 Companies are trading close to their MRP i.e. are fairly valued while 24 companies are trading above their MRP (over-valued). 
 
Future Outlook 
Slowdown in global demand, sluggish domestic economic activity, high inflation and interest rates have led to a sub 5% GDP growth in the last two years. This is expected to change as the new government, has initiated reforms process to attract investment and remove infrastructure bottlenecks that will boost growth. Unclogging of policy logjam will lead to rise in the domestic investment and consumption, which will further give a boost to growth. Sectors like auto, consumer durables will gain from this revival. Also, services sector which contributes 60% to real GDP, is expected to grow on the back of acceleration in trade, transport, and banking. 
 
However, this growth comes with a caveat, with both the government and central bank required to play their roles well. The growth forecasts assume that reforms are undertaken to ease supply-side constraints (particularly in energy and infrastructure) and to improve labour productivity, fiscal policy tightening continues, and a credible monetary policy stance is maintained. 
 Also, on a global economic front, things remain sketchy. The U.S. fed has signalled towards high interest rates and we think this may happen earlier than the markets expect. In fact, foreign markets have already started factoring in an interest rate of 3% as soon as Q1 FY16. Eurozone too continues to send warning signals. The Eurozone manufacturing <keyword id="104215" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="PMI">PMI</keyword> fell to a 14-month low of 50.5 in September 14. In fact manufacturing PMI of Germany, one of the best performing economies of the Eurozone, has decined to 49.9 in Sept 14 signalling contraction. China too continues on its troubled path. Though the Chinese GDP has grown energy consumption has remained stagnant which forces us to remain circumspect about the Chinese data numbers. 
 
On the valuation front, markets seem to have factored in all the domestic positives after the long run witnessed post elections. Though our recent experience suggests, that attractive investment opportunities can be found in unconventional places. We would therefore urge investors to look hard at finding value buys in this market. The correction seen in the past 2-3 days if continued will only open up more doors for the value investor. Remember, to buy fundamentally strong companies at a sufficient margin of safety!
