The UK Health Service Agency (UKHSA) has already termed the subvariant as ‘variant under investigation’ and also said that it is a level below the status ‘variant of concern’ by World Health Organization (WHO). At least 400 cases of the Stealth Omicron have been detected till January 10 in the UK. However, according to the <a href="https://twitter.com/TheWireScience/status/1486557108946739200">PANGO directory</a> of the Coronaviruses,which is regularly updated by scientists from Oxford, Edinburgh and Cambridge, Denmark has been listed as the most affected country with 79% of the cases detected so far. The list further ranks Great Britain with 6% cases, followed by India (5%), Sweden (2%), and Singapore (2%). “In India we are already seeing this substrain in our genomic testing. The symptoms and treatment are the same as other substrains, like BA.1. A greater spread of any virus means potentially more mutations, which holds true for this variant as well.” Commenting on the severity of the new subvariant, Meera Chand, incident director at UKHSA, said in a statement, “ It is the nature of viruses to evolve and mutate, so it's to be expected that we will continue to see new variants emerge as the pandemic goes on. Scientists from Wuhan, China have warned that this strain has a high death and transmission rate. The NeoCov strain is related to Middle East Respiratory Syndrome MERS COV. Reports of COVID-19 variant ‘NeoCov’ are spreading – Here’s what we know so far

"The lowest value testing is just people who are just going to test to say 'hey, am I sick?'" he said. "This will thus lead to repeat cycles of infection requiring repeat booster vaccinations and perhaps even social mitigation measures to contain such cycles of waves going forward.""Thus it is more prudent to enlarge testing and isolation, and encourage the take up of booster vaccinations, including planning for a 4th vaccination (like Israel), to get a hold of the pandemic once and for all," he added.Michael said that DeSantis should be encouraging vaccinations and testing rather than saying it is not necessary. US stocks close at record highs as Omicron fears ease going into holiday break

The Drugs Controller General of <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> (<keyword id="172241" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="dcgi" source="Orion">DCGI</keyword>) on Thursday granted regular market approval for Covid vaccines - <keyword id="9617748" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="covishield" source="Orion">Covishield</keyword> and <keyword id="9485939" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="covaxin" source="Orion">Covaxin</keyword> - for use in adult population with certain conditions. <keyword id="149108" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bharat-biotech" source="Orion">Bharat Biotech</keyword>'s Covaxin and <keyword id="95879" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="serum-institute-of-india" source="Orion">Serum Institute of India</keyword>'s Covishield have been given regular market approval with certain conditions of registration on the CoWin platform and the submission of safety data on a six-monthly basis. "The @CDSCO_INDIA_INF has now upgraded the permission for COVAXIN and Covishield from restricted use in emergency situations to normal new drug permission in the adult population with certain conditions", said Union Health Minister <keyword id="2607815" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mansukh-mandaviya" source="Orion">Mansukh Mandaviya</keyword> in a tweet. In a subsequent tweet, the health minister said, "The conditions include supply for programmatic settings including registration on the CoWin platform and to continue to submit safety data on a six-monthly basis". However, Covishield and Covaxin will not be available in shops soon. People will be able to buy them from hospitals and clinics only. Vaccination data has to be submitted to the DCGI every six months and updated on the CoWIN app. The DCGI approval has come after the Subject Expert Committee of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization recommended granting regular market approval to Covishield and Covaxin, subject to certain conditions. Indian vaccines manufacturer Serum Institute of India (SII) and Bharat Biotech had submitted applications to the DCGI seeking regular market authorisation for their respective COVID-19 vaccines.
