Indian market has a lot of potential for regional aviation and if an operator plays the cards right, sustaining business is not an issue, <keyword id="6924336" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Star-Air" source="Orion">Star Air</keyword> CEO, Simran Singh Tiwana has said. Tiwana also said that the airline is aiming to double its passenger volumes this year as it scales up its fleet and adds three new destinations excluding Jaipur which is set to be launched on Monday. Set up in 2019 by the Kolhapur-based diversified business house, Sanjay Ghodawat Group, the airline has a fleet of five Embraer aircraft operating to 16 destinations under the Central government's regional connectivity scheme, <keyword id="6366656" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="UDAN" source="Orion">UDAN</keyword>, from its two operational bases, Bengaluru and Belagavi. "India has a lot of regional potential, which remains untapped. I think regional travel might grow five-fold in the next five years." Tiwana said. Stating that it is "possible" to operate a regional airline in India successfully, he said, "You play your cards right, go for the right network, which in line with the aircraft you operate (and) that makes a big difference (in terms of sustaining operations). Star Air, according to him, is operationally profitable. "I think regional connectivity exists beyond short-haul routes. If we think it is connecting smaller stations with Mumbai, Delhi, among others, we need to think about it different," Tiwana added. He, however, said that wildlife issues, some gaps in the runways operations and watchout hours at certain UDAN airports remain some of the challenges for the regional air operators. "Our business model is not clashing with anybody else in India. We have a separate business, separate market and we are just trying to grow it," he said. "Our markets have been very different and we are eating into anybody's market share as we are doing all monopoly routes," emphasised. An all-Embraer planes operator, the airline owns four aircraft (E145), which are 60-seater and has signed lease agreement for four bigger, 76-seater E175, planes, he said. Of these, one has already been inducted into the fleet while the remaining three planes are planned to be inducted by September this year. According to him, the decision to own the aircraft in the initial years of setting up the airline helped it navigate during the pandemic and sustain operations as "operating an (an owned) aircraft and leased aircraft operations are all completely two different ball games." "And, I think a lot of startups (airlines) had it wrong," he said in an apparent reference to several regional airlines such <keyword id="3816110" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Air-Pegasus" source="Orion">Air Pegasus</keyword>, <keyword id="946769" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Air-Costa" source="Orion">Air Costa</keyword>, <keyword id="2546324" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Air-Carnival" source="Orion">Air Carnival</keyword>, which started on regional routes with a bang but went belly up after over a period of time in the last 8-9 years. He said that in the last four-and-a-half years, the airline had been preparing to go into the lease model and added that "a good background of operations and cash flows made the lessors comfortable (in leasing out the planes). Stating that the launching flight services to Junagadh from Bangalore via Hyderabad, with the larger plane is aimed at both addressing the demand and also adding capacity in a measured tone, he said, "We don't want to be too aggressive. The routes we are flying on are trying to mature over the period of time." On Saturday, Star Air commenced operations of its Embraer E175 jet with a flight service on the Bangalore-Hyderabad-Jamnagar route, offering business class and economy, making it the first regional carrier to have aircraft in twin class configuration. The airline plans to operate 20 per cent of its flights on non-UDAN, he said and added that as many as 12 UDAN routes are expected to become mature in the coming months, which then can be converted into commercial routes. Tiwana also said that Star Air will be participating in the fifth round of the regional connectivity scheme. "The bidding has just opened a few days back. We have time up till June 1 to file the bids but we will be filing," he added. Regional connectivity exists beyond short-haul routes: Star Air

And, no before you even think of it, let’s tell you, it’s not another Roast. (Though we wish it was) 
 
Not just happy with being infamous for the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/AIB-You-Have-A-Right-To-Offend-But/articleshow/46144426.cms">AIB Roast</a> which made <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Ranveer-Singh-takes-to-Live-Blogging-his-day/articleshow/48972499.cms">Ranveer Singh</a> and Arjun Kapoor the victims of insult comedy, aided with a cameo by Karan Johar, the band of funny boys decided it’s time they take their notorious reputation to smaller screens. Literally. 
 
Eight months after their Roast, the comedy group launched the trailer for their next big project in association with Star and the all new Hotstar platform. 
 
The group has come up with a solution for all those complaining about how India has nothing that can match up to the likes of ‘The Daily Show with Jon Stewart’ or <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/India-doesnt-deserve-its-own-version-of-Last-Week-Tonight-and-heres-why/articleshow/48746556.cms">‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver’</a> despite the country being a goldmine of laws, policies and politicians that can be mocked, ridiculed and laughed at. 
 
According to their trailer, the bad boys of comedy will be soon seen hosting a news comedy show, which would be aired on <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Satyamev-Jayate-2-Helps-Star-Plus-Cross-700-TVM-Mark-Again/articleshow/31994810.cms">Star Plus</a>, Star World and Hotstar. Titled ‘<keyword id="3056725" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="On-Air-with-AIB">On Air with AIB</keyword>,’ the weekly series premiering on October will have 10 episodes each in Hindi and English. 
 
 
 The video, which already has 129,635 views shows Tanmay Bhatt, Rohan Joshi, Ashish Shakya and Gurshiman Khambha walk in to the Star Office and bump into two fans who are suffering from the ‘Oh my god. You guys did the roast. Still can’t make up our minds on whether it was awesome or against Indian culture but oh my god you guys did the Roast’ syndrome and who assume that the fantastic four are at the Star Office to pitch Round 2 of the <keyword id="2700836" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="AIB-Roast">AIB Roast</keyword>. 
 
The four try their best to convince the two that their new show will hardly be anything like the AIB Roast in vain as the two are convinced that despite AIB’s claims of the new show being ‘a news space comedy,’ it will still bear resemblance to the slapstick comedy displayed in their previous project. 
 Giving AIB tough competition in the humour department, <keyword id="17943" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="star-india">Star India</keyword> CEO uday Shankar while talking to IndianTelevision.com, said, "I am told that based on extensive, exhaustive research, AIB are considered mildly entertaining and we should give them a show on our network. I have complete faith that we will regret this in the months to come." 
 
Granted, AIB making their debut on television is great news, considering the quality of content on the idiot box is worse than the plot of Hero (if there was one), the big question still is, will AIB be successful in shying away from their slapstick, overdramatic brand of comedy and herald the onset of intelligent comedy on the small screen and more importantly, is that even possible? 
 
Guess, we’ll have to wait and watch.

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div><ul class="summary-list"><li>Brian Ahern is co-head of the London music division of William Morris Entertainment (WME), one of the biggest talent agencies in the world.</li><li>He told Business Insider that the concept of a "rock star" is evolving.</li><li>He believes hip hip is so widely accepted now that it's "probably the new rock and roll," and the likes of Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar are the new rock stars.</li><li>Along with traditional musicians like Drake and Rihanna, the agency works with digital stars and influencers like Casey Neistat and Lily Singh.</li><li>Ahern believes these modern artists are rock stars in their own right, too.</li></ul>Brian Ahern knows the music industry inside and out.He started in the mailroom of <a href="http://wmeentertainment.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">William Morris Entertainment (WME),</a> an <a href="http://wmeentertainment.com/network/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Endeavour network</a> talent agency which is one of the biggest in the world and looks after actors, musicians, athletes, and authors like Rihanna, Drake, Ryan Reynolds, Adele, Oprah Winfrey, Lewis Hamilton, LeBron James, and Serena Williams.Now, he heads up the company's entire music division in London.Ahern told Business Insider he originally studied finance and was "not really a music guy" until he met with a Hollywood producer in Los Angeles who suggested he try working for a talent agency.He applied to a number of agencies and was hired by WME in LA, where he worked in the mailroom for nine months before going on to work as a line agent for indie bands. He became an assistant to Lollapalooza cofounder Marc Geiger (head of music at WME), which he said taught him a lot about the "backbone of the music industry.""He [was] representing bands like The Pixies and Nine Inch Nails," he said. "I got a lot of perspective of the business - not just booking bands. However, he still books shows and festivals for his own clients, which he explained is the main job of a talent agent.<h2>The role of the talent agent</h2><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Ahern calls the artist the "CEO of their enterprise," but added that they "outsource a lot of their responsibilities on a day-to-day [basis] because they're supposed to be creative individuals.""I think ultimately the artist is the decision-maker in every equation, [but] they may trust people to make a lot of decisions for them," he added.These people include lawyers, publicists, an "army of people at record labels" including marketing, in-house publicists, and A&amp;R people, then business managers "doing the finance and number crunching and making sure they can afford to live," financial planners for people who "have a lot of money and want to invest it," plus the manager, who Ahern called "the epicenter of overseeing a lot on their behalf," from "making sure the kids get picked up from school" to "dealing with the finances and talking to the lawyer about what they need to be doing."Then there's the talent agent, who traditionally books shows and events on behalf of an artist."Some artists only require us to book shows and that's a one-dimensional job at times," Ahern said.Read more: <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/laidback-luke-dj-mental-health-following-avicii-death-2018-10?r=US&amp;IR=T" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DJs like Laidback Luke say their mental health is being damaged by the brutal pressures of the music industry</a>The booking process involves looking at the festivals and shows happening over the next few years and figuring out when and where an artist wants to play."Somebody we represent globally, we look at when's the best time to be in Australia, when's the best time to be in Asia, similarly Europe, the UK, US, South America, Mexico," Ahern said."Lollapalooza is in South America around March, we want to be there, we want to be at Coachella in April, Glastonbury in June, Reading and Leeds in August - we look at those things."<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>He added that there are some venues that are considered to be prestigious because they've been associated with historic artists."If you're a big Zeppelin fan and you know they did something at [London's Royal] Albert Hall, you might say 'I really want to do something at Albert Hall someday,'" he said. "Some of it's alignment with personal goals of the artist - they might be interested in stadiums, they might be interested in small clubs that service their fanbase."He added that performing at the likes of Coachella, New York's Governors Ball, Glastonbury, or Reading "lends credibility" to an artist.&#xa0;"In the past it used to be a lot more album cycle driven - the record drops here so we'd have to figure out where to tour on the back of that. Now it's a little bit more [about] where are the looks we want to get, where do we gain notoriety, where do we gain market share [or] the most eyeballs?"He added that venues have availability issues and there are "bumps along the way.""Someone gets sick and we have to make adjustments, all the way through to fulfillment when the tour happens," he said.<h2>Artist first, musician second</h2>However, he said that at WME, the role of the booking agent has involved into more of a "consultant.""We still do our primary function and responsibility, [but] the agency has other wings and departments to service clients needs, so if they want to write a book or star in a movie or go into business or whatever it is, we're here to employ ourselves in that way as well. As a full service agency we want to help the artist build their career across the world.""We're here to fulfill their desires but also be the expert in the room, the doctor you go to for advice. "He's a genius and creative mastermind... but we have a team that were able to help him."You may look at an [artist] as an actor first, as a musician first, but we look at them as an artist. Putting them into multiple places is important."<h2>Digital celebrities</h2>Part of Hen's job has also involved learning to adapt to the constantly changing concept of what a celebrity or artist actually is.Along with its Motion Picture, Television, Endorsement, Music, Theater, Book, Sports, and Speakers divisions, WME also now has a "Digital" business, looking after the likes of YouTube stars and influencers like Joe Sugg (8.5 million YouTube subscribers), gamer JackSepticEye (20 million YouTube subscribers), Casey Neistat (11 million subscribers), and Lily Singh (14.5 million YouTube subscribers.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>"Kids are looking into small screens rather than big screens, or both, and that has created new stars and celebrities, which is why we have a digital department at WME that's global," Ahern said. Digital talent is just talent in general... they're just traditional talent, traditional actors, musicians in the making, they're just breaking in a different medium and they're doing it themselves in a lot of ways."<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>"We recognized that eventually they were going to populate a lot of the big screens just like they did the little screens, and [we'd] probably see them some day next to a Hugh Jackman or Matt Damon or whomever it is... Some of them want to stay in their bedrooms and do what they do because they're good at it and they get paid well, that's what they're comfortable with, but some of them want to go on tour and do a podcast and so different stuff."He added that the money they earn is comparable to other non-digital A-list celebrities, too."Digital talent doesn't have a ceiling," he said. "You can't draw a distinction between an entire genre and another genre to say this one sells better than that one, but demand is demand - if people want to see something, they want to pay to see it."Some of the digital or YouTube stars or podcasts that we tour, tour similarly to some of the other live events that we book."<h2>The new 'rock stars'</h2><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Ahern said within the company, there are a lot of debates about "what a rock star is any more.""I think obviously there are people that are popular for very different reasons, whether it's their fashion influence or their musical influence or whatever it is. I grew up looking at a rock star as a Robert Plant or a Kurt Cobain or whatever it was, [but that has] certainly evolved."There are examples like that now, but the Travis Scotts of the world are rock stars. They definitely are. The Kendrick Lamars are rock stars... They're the people people want to look up to."<h2>'I want to remember what I was capable of doing'</h2>While his mindset may have changed throughout his career, Ahern has had the chance to work with plenty of traditional rock stars, too.He's also seen plenty of them live - a clear perk of the job.He recalled seeing the Foo Fighters with his mom when he was a kid - she worked for Delta Air Lines and was able to bring him on trips for free."I missed Nirvana which is my favourite band ever," he said. "I begged my mom to let me go see the Foos... I saw this amazing show. I've never sweated so much in my life. It was great."&#xa0;Other gig highlights for Ahern include a sound check with Nine Inch Nails when they re-formed the band, and standing on stage when the Pixies got back together in 2004."I have every laminate, every ticket, every backstage pass because I want to remember what I was capable of doing and what I had access to," he said. A music executive at one of the world's biggest talent agencies says hip hop is the new rock and roll, and Travis Scott is the new rock star

Putting the best foot forward for advertisers With evolving consumer needs, the expectations of advertisers have also evolved. While ensuring the medium puts its best foot forward for its listeners over the years, a lot of work has also gone behind coming up with robust advertising solutions for advertisers. Talking about why radio continues to be a strong advertising medium, Anupama Singh, Consultant – Content Management, Carat India, “Radio as a medium, at one end of the spectrum, works as the last mile reminder medium and at the other end, helps the marketers to reach the audiences in the media dark areas, where electricity/literacy can be a challenge. The privatisation of Radio in 2001 opened a lot of opportunities to the marketers- large and small. For large marketers, radio helps to build frequency and hyper-local targeting. For retailers, it is a cost-effective medium that helps them reach their audience with the least spillover.” So how has the medium been working on giving robust solutions to advertisers? Talking about the kind of solutions they have been working on providing, Narayanan said, “We never believed in offering vanilla solutions as radio offers opportunities to innovate and micro target at the city levels. With our RJs being influencers in their own way, we firmly believe that a good solution, coupled with its delivery are equally important.” She further ads that their approach has always been to offer integrated solutions comprising of multimedia platforms. “We are also collaborating with many of them in designing their creatives through audio and video, besides taking care of other communication needs. Integrated multimedia campaigns and on ground, digital podcast productions for the clients are something that we take up as customized projects,” explained Narayanan. Today, it is all about coming up with bigger and better solutions for advertisers, said Panday. “We used to house our digital products within Solutions in the past. We are now carving digital products out of Solutions. With our platform launch in international markets, we will start aggregating audiences on our own platform. This will give us unprecedented insights on our consumers, something that has been missing on FM radio and even external platforms. We will also finally have our own digital inventory to offer to advertisers. Therefore, a whole lot of action can be expected from Solutions and Digital. Together, we expect this to grow from one-third to half of our revenues in the near future. FM radio may grow at 6-8% in the years ahead, but Solutions and Digital can grow at 15-18% CAGR for many years to come,” he said. What the future looks like As a medium, Radio has a huge potential. It is an interactive medium that holds its listeners’ attention by offering socially-viable content and enhanced on-air properties. The medium’s digital platforms have become another consumer touchpoint. Moreover, most radio stations have powerful influencers in their RJs who have been able to build a deep connect with their listeners on various social media platforms making them strong voices in the industry. However, with consumers wanting to access content according to their own convenience, one of the biggest challenges for traditional radio was the fact that it could bit be accessed on-demand. “However, to address this, the radio industry is now transforming themselves into an audio entertainment company by venturing into podcasts, videos through web radio, and social content for the modern generations who want content at their fingertips at all times. The change in consumption patterns has given rise to a new trend in the radio industry with digitalization being the new trend,” said Thomas. On what is feels need to be done to ensure the medium stays relevant even in the future, Kukian said, “There needs to be a true amalgamation of traditional and new-age medium with radio being the core. Within the world of digital, Radio as a platform provides a direct emotional connect with the audience. In today’s time, radio is not confined to just on-air audio content, but has also moved to online platforms and this phenomenon is only bound to grow as we move forward. Therefore, integrating radio with digital viz ‘Radigitalization’ a term coined by me, is going to play a central role for the radio industry in the future.” Sharing a similar thought, Singh added, “Using innovative content formats on digital platforms such as podcasts and partnering with various music platforms like Spotify and Gaana to market their content going forward, is what the future for radio looks like.” Private FM stations worldwide have been fast moving from analog to digital globally and the future could look very different. HD Radio from Xperi Corporations that offers Digital Radio Technology for Radio Stations, Car Radio System, Mobile and any device which has radio built in services has successfully conducted a trial to provide digital radio technology for FM frequencies with All India Radio (AIR) recently.
