The culture of brain drain that had taken India by storm in the 90s and post millennium is seeing a reverse trend these days. Well settled NRIs are getting back to their roots and investing in start ups to make things easier back home. 
 
One of them is Suman Nandy, whose solution has come as a breather for those educational institutes seeking accreditation from reputed organization, is going places. 
 
Nandy's EPaathSala focusses on simplified educational compliance management as per a news report by The Economic Times. Accreditation refers to the process of evaluation of higher institutes and colleges, a mandatory practice across the globe. An institute is graded on multiple parameters such as prevalence of infrastructure, staff training, student learning and registrar activities, and presented with a grade, or in India a cumulative grade point average out of four. 
 
The evaluation, usually done by governmental and/or non-governmental institutions, plays a key role in student admissions, getting grants and campus placements by companies. The higher the grade or grade-point average, the better for the college and its students. 
"It is the need of the hour. With thousands of colleges in the country, there is no organised and time-effective method of completing the processes for accreditation, which are crucial to both the college and its students," Nandy whose company counts nearly 400 colleges as clients in less than a year of its launch told the ET. 
The list includes St Xaviers College, Don Bosco Institute of Technology and Pune-based College of Military Engineering. 
 
Nandy said that while there is no dearth of autonomous bodies in India that dole out merit, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council or NAAC under the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India is the most sought after organisation. The NAAC accreditation is valid for five years, after which the college has to resume the processes of applying and receiving the accreditation again. 
 
"What took close to a year can now be done in a week's time," Mohammed Hanif, senior professor, placement cell coordinator and former coordinator of the Internal Quality Assessment Cell Coordinator (IQAC), in charge of preparing and submitting the report to NAAC, at St Xaviers College, Kolkata has told the financial agency. 
 
The Self Study Report (SSR) is the main document which involves faculty staff and students to fill in details about their progress and academic excellence, prepared automatically, as and when the details are filled, a process that was done manually so far," said Hanif, who has helped several tier two and three colleges go about their accreditation process with the company's software.

<keyword id="6357585" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Consultancy-Services">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword> (<keyword id="6357150" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="TCS">TCS</keyword>), which is India’s largest software services firm, has partnered with four colleges so that it can offer courses in Big Data. The move is a part of its strategy to strengthen its pool of workforce in Indian digital technology space. 
 
The four colleges are Swami Vivekananda University (West Bengal), St Xaviers College of Arts and Science (Ahmedabad), Central University of Rajasthan (Rajasthan) and St Joseph's College (Bengaluru). TCS will offer M.Sc programme, with a specialisation in Big Data, and the course would start from July 2016. 
 "The digital revolution is being led by data and TCS is leading in that area. We have already trained 1.2 lakh employees in this area in less than a year's time. We will be partnering with these colleges on the curriculum and the faculty will also be trained by us," said TCS VP &amp; Head BPO HR <keyword id="2368168" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ranjan-Bandyopadhyay">Ranjan Bandyopadhyay</keyword>. 
 
He also added that the programme would be of 2 years duration, carrying 4 semesters, out of which 1 semester would be for internship. 
 
"There is a shortage of manpower in areas like Big Data and that is a need that we are looking at meeting," he said. 
 
Students who have graduated in courses like statistics, economics, mathematics and econometrics will be eligible for applying for this course. Each college would have about 30 students for this course. 
 
"For next year, we are looking at partnering engineering colleges to add Big Data to MTech courses and go big from year three. We have seen a lot of enthusiasm from students for these courses," he said.

Rohit Philip is the new CFO of IndiGo

Mumbai, May 14 () Industrialist Ajay Piramal-led Anant National University on Thursday said it has joined hands with local civic body BMC to set up recovery centres for COVID-19 patients in the city. In the first phase of the initiative, the Ahmedabad-based university has set-up a 100-bed facility in Najam Baug, 100 beds in Kesar Baug and 250 beds at St Xavier's College in Mumbai, it said in a statement. The city has reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases so far, with the number crossing the 15,500-mark and the death toll rising to more than 590. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had recently announced that it is taking steps to add as many as 200 beds every day to take the total to 7,000 beds by the next two weeks. According to the authority, there are more than 4,270 beds as of May 10 spread across Dedicated Covid Health Centres and Dedicated Covid Hospitals in the city. "In addition to the COVID-19 recovery facilities, the university is manufacturing low-cost yet effective cardboard beds for the patients in its facility in Ahmedabad and they have the capacity to produce over 100 beds a day," the statement said. The university has also successfully set up a facility in Kerala to cater to those coming from overseas. Anant National University is also manufacturing visors and has been supplying the same across various cities to all frontline workers, which will now be produced for the BMC as well, it added. "I speak for the entire Hampton University community when I say we are grateful to Ms. MacKenzie Scott, who has chosen to support us during this unprecedented period of uncertainty."The statement reveals that Hampton University plans to use the funds to give scholarships to assist high school students, fund Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute, update campus scientific laboratories, and "further support of the University's technological advances."<h2>Spelman College</h2>On Tuesday, Spelman College also released a <a href="https://www.spelman.edu/about-us/news-and-events/news-releases/2020/07/28/magnanimous-gift-from-mackenzie-scott-bolsters-spelman-college-s-strategic-outcomes">statement</a> announcing that the institution was one of the recipients of the large donation. They did not disclose how much they received. "MacKenzie Scott's gift to 116 organizations breaks new philanthropic ground both in scope and in scale. On behalf of the entire Spelman community, I am honored that Spelman College is among the dozens of institutions who are recipients of her gifts," President Mary Schmidt Campbell said in a statement. The statement highlights that the college will use the funding towards "the College's goal of supporting scholarly and creative excellence by bolstering its technological infrastructure; developing new sources of revenue; promoting curricular innovations that enhance the competitiveness of Spelman students; and improving academic facilities."<h2>Tuskegee University</h2>Tuskegee University <a href="https://www.tuskegee.edu/news/philanthropist-mackenzie-scott-invests-in-tuskegee-universitys-future-with-record-20-million-donation">announced</a> that the institution received a whopping $20 million dollar donation from Scott. "This gift comes at an opportune time for us," President Lily D. McNair said in a statement. "We are about to launch a five-year strategic planning effort and, with this investment from Ms. Scott, we will be able to unfold the next phase of our mission in ways we simply could not have considered before."According to President McNair, Tuskegee plans to use the generous donation to increase "student access, strengthening signature programs, advancing research and innovation, and preserving the university's legacy," she said. <h2>Xavier University of Louisiana</h2>Xavier University of Louisiana received $20 from Scott's donation, according to a <a href="https://xula.edu/SingleArticle?articleid=article_news_xavier_university_of_louisiana_receiv">statement</a> released on Tuesday. The institution doesn't list who the donor is, but according to Scott's blog post, the school was one of the recipients of her donations. Thomson ReutersThe Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald, damaged by colliding with a Philippine-flagged merchant vessel, is seen at the U.S. naval base in YokosukaTOKYO (Reuters) - The U.S. Navy confirmed on Monday that all seven sailors on the USS Fitzgerald were found dead after the destroyer's collision with a container ship at the weekend.The bodies of missing sailors were found in flooded compartments of the USS Fitzgerald, which came close to sinking after a collision with a container ship off Japan tore a gash under the warship's waterline, the U.S. Navy's Seventh Fleet commander said on Sunday.According to the <a href="http://www.navy.mil/submit/display.asp?story_id=101102">Navy</a>, the identities of the sailors are:<ul><li>Gunner's Mate Seaman Dakota Kyle Rigsby, 19, from Palmyra, Virginia</li><li>Yeoman 3rd Class Shingo Alexander Douglass, 25, from San Diego</li><li>Sonar Technician 3rd Class Ngoc T Truong Huynh, 25, from Oakville, Connecticut</li><li>Gunner's Mate 2nd Class Noe Hernandez, 26, from Weslaco, Texas</li><li>Fire Controlman 2nd Class Carlosvictor Ganzon Sibayan, 23, from Chula Vista, California</li><li>Personnel Specialist 1st Class Xavier Alec Martin, 24, from Halethorpe, Maryland</li><li>Fire Controlman 1st Class Gary Leo Rehm Jr., 37, from Elyria, Ohio</li></ul> Acting Secretary of the Navy Sean Stackley released the following <a href="http://www.navy.mil/submit/display.asp?story_id=101099">statement</a>:We are all deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our fellow shipmates as a result of Friday's collision between USS Fitzgerald and a commercial container ship, and our thoughts and prayers are with their families. As details emerge, we can all be proud of the heroic effort by the crew to tend to the needs of those injured and save the ship from further damage while returning safely to port. The Navy family comes together during tragic events such as this and I want to thank those who continue to provide around-the-clock assistance to the affected families during these difficult days. I also want to express my most heartfelt appreciation to our Japanese allies for their swift support and assistance at this time of our need. In due time, the United States Navy will fully investigate the cause of this tragedy and I ask all of you to keep the Fitzgerald families in your thoughts and prayers as we begin the task of answering the many questions before us.
