The value of the title sponsorship could fall by 30% if <keyword id="54572" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="PepsiCo">PepsiCo</keyword> terminates its contract ahead of schedule as the <keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword> title sponsor raised concerns over the controversies and ethical issues that clad the name of the tournament now, experts say. A joint statement issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (<keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword>) and PepsiCo said the two were in discussions to work out a solution. 

	"Both parties will share it when ready," it said. IPL has been in the centre of a major spot-fixing controversy and two franchisees have been suspended from the tournament after a Supreme Court-appointed panel found their owners to be guilty of malpractices. 
 

	"We are very clear that we do not want to be associated with a controversyridden sport. However, as of now there is no decision to terminate the contract with IPL two years ahead of term. Discussions with BCCI are still on," a senior official at PepsiCo told ET. The company had paid Pepsi Rs 396.80 crore to bag the title sponsorship in 2013 for a fiveyear period which ends in 2017. 
 The official said PepsiCo was satisfied with the mileage it had derived from its association with the Twenty-20 tournament but Global Chairman <keyword id="6421975" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indra-Nooyi">Indra Nooyi</keyword> has made it clear that the company will only associate with ethical and clean sporting properties. PepsiCo had earlier terminated its contract with ace golfer Tiger Woods following an infamous sex scandal. 

	The cola maker can scrap its sponsorship if circumstances sullied the sporting event's reputation or the brand image of the sponsor because of its IPL association. However, this needs to be proved by the sponsor. Otherwise, the cricket board has the option of dragging the company to court. 
 

	In its statement, BCCI said it has assured PepsiCo that steps would be taken to address the concerns and it will work towards necessary solutions in the interests of the league as well as the company. Media planners and experts say that if a solution is not found and PepsiCo does indeed exit ahead of its term, it could push down pricing of IPL title sponsorship by as much as 30%. 
 

	"Prices of the IPL title sponsorship will go down by 25-30% (that) is my estimate. That's because of two reasons. The new sponsor will have to wipe out the very strong association PepsiCo had with IPL for three years. Besides, the new title sponsor will have only two years to leverage IPL," said Sam Balsara, chairman at media buying group Madison. 
 Ecommerce companies such as Paytm and <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> could look at picking up the title sponsorship if Pepsi ends its deal. Shankar Nath, senior vice-president at Paytm, which is already the title sponsor for all international cricket matches to be played in India till 2019, said the company would evaluate the opportunity once there was more clarity after BCCI's meeting on October 18. "IPL is a good, stable property," he said. A top Snapdeal official, who did not wish to be named, said the company may consider the sponsorship option as IPL was still an interesting asset. 

	Ashish Bhasin, chairman &amp; CEO, South Asia, at Dentsu Aegis Network, said it won't be difficult to find sponsors. "It's more about the pricing. Going forward pricing of title sponsorship and also of other sponsorship and TV spots will depend on how the controversy around IPL is managed. The impact will get magnified if the controversy doesn't end quickly," he said. But Shailendra Singh, joint managing director at entertainment and sports marketing firm Percept, said no one in BCCI had made any effort to rebuild the IPL brand and no company would want to risk its image by getting involved with the tournament. 
 Companies willing to take an exposure to IPL could be the new ecommerce players looking for a quick hit to establish themselves, and the fact that it would possibly be for a shorter duration of only two years would help. IPL was hit by the spot-fixing and betting scandal in 2013, the first year of Pepsi's association with the tournament. At that time, Delhi Police had arrested three players — <keyword id="13418" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="S-Sreesanth">S Sreesanth</keyword>, Ashok Chandila and <keyword id="219674" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ankeet-Chavan">Ankeet Chavan</keyword> — on charges of alleged spot fixing. Later, Gurunath Meiyappan, the son-in-law of then BCCI president N Srinivasan, was also arrested along with Bollywood actor Vindu Dara Singh for their alleged involvement in betting.

Why IPL this year will be a huge failure?

Former Indian captain <keyword id="6359039" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sourav-Ganguly">Sourav Ganguly</keyword> told reporters that players of the two banned IPL teams of <keyword id="13802" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rajasthan-Royals">Rajasthan Royals</keyword> and <keyword id="13886" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chennai-Super-Kings">Chennai Super Kings</keyword> shouldn’t be chastised for the faults of their respective owners. 
 
A member of the BCCI’s four-member working group that’ll study the Justice R.M. Lodha committee’s order, Sourav maintained, “I don’t want to jump the gun, there’s a Board to take care of that. The role of the working group is to find out a way to get the next IPL going. But innocent players shouldn’t suffer. It’s common sense, really. You cannot punish X for Y’s faults. How and where they play, how they are distributed among teams is for the Board to decide.” 
 The special BCCI group will give its recommendations within six weeks. It’ll also chart a roadmap for IPL 9, which needs a minimum of eight teams. When asked if IPL’s tainted pacer <keyword id="6529653" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sreesanth">Sreesanth</keyword> could be allowed to play again Ganguly said, “Well, he has been cleared by a Delhi court, but the BCCI has said that its decision, based on disciplinary action, will remain unaltered. Since the BCCI gives all the players an opportunity to come back and play, I think there should be a meeting between Sreesanth and the BCCI." 
 
"As far as Sreesanth's comeback is concerned, I believe that the Kerala Cricket Association has supported him and has requested the BCCI to help him. That's the way it should be”, he said. 
 
Sourav also gave rise to conjectures of a possible comeback of players convicted in the match-fixing scandal, "I think it will take a few months' time since there is a scope of going to a higher court. I don't know what Delhi police is going to do. But I feel if the BCCI, maybe in a few months' time, is convinced that everything is clear and fine, they will let the players play. We have to wait for some more time." 
 
Dada also confirmed that the BCCI has extended the Conflict of Interest clause to more than just the owners, “Everyone associated with Indian cricket would be under it. That includes the administration and the players.” 
 
When asked if India-Pakistan matches should continue after the heinous attack on Gurdaspur, Sourav thought otherwise, "An India-Pakistan series is always entertaining and a high profile one, but we cannot ignore the sufferings of the people of Gurdaspur. I think the Board was correct in saying that the terror attacks and threats would have to completely go before bilateral cricket ties can be resumed."

Ganguly says IPL players not to suffer for owner’s faults

The Indian Premier League (IPL) or popularly called ‘India ka tyohar’ has begun with the expected pomp and show. And with the <keyword id="2565794" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="IPL-8">IPL 8</keyword> on, many of us are cheering for our favourite teams before the idiot box. But while we enjoy this season, IPL also reminds us of the murky business that cricket has become. But has that deterred the game from being the nation’s favourite? 
 “Let’s not get carried away. Yes, some of the stuff is not right for the image of the game. But there has been controversy in sports since 1930s,” said <keyword id="201892" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ravi-Krishnan">Ravi Krishnan</keyword>, the former managing director of IMG South Asia, who went on to become the co-founder and CEO of Stepathalon, a global wellness company. 
 
Substantiating his point, he asserted that the scam has hardly an impact on the game’s image. “Now when you say marred, there are more people, more viewership and more money in the game. So, where is the mar here?” averred Krishnan. 
 
Krishnan reaffirmed that the IPL controversy that happened in 2013, did not impact the sport enthusiast. He clarified that people still love the game and everything it stands for. “It brings more people to the game and the game is on an upward trajectory. I agree match-fixing is not good for the game but at present, the game is bigger than anything else,” he stated. 
 It is worth noting that in 2013, IPL was embroiled in a controversy when three players from Rajasthan Royals- <keyword id="13418" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="S-Sreesanth">S Sreesanth</keyword>, <keyword id="219674" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ankeet-Chavan">Ankeet Chavan</keyword> and <keyword id="1050075" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ajit-Chandila">Ajit Chandila</keyword>, were arrested for spot fixing. Later, Gurunath Meiyappan, the team principal of Chennai SuperKings was also arrested on charges of betting. <keyword id="6358615" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shilpa-Shetty">Shilpa Shetty</keyword>’s husband and co-owner of <keyword id="13808" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajasthan-Royal">Rajasthan Royal</keyword>, Raj Kundra too confessed to be involved in betting.

IPL; Scams helped this game to become more popular

Barely few days into the <keyword id="6354977" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword> verdict on the infamous son-in-law of <keyword id="208612" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="BCCI-chief">BCCI Chief</keyword>, <keyword id="1682587" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Gurunath-Meiyappan">Gurunath Meiyappan</keyword>, the most coveted <keyword id="6354831" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Indian-Premier-League">Indian Premier League</keyword> were auctioned. Players were sold, players were bought and the business went on as usual. Unmindful of the circumstances, all corporate and <keyword id="6356028" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sports">sports</keyword> companies which had been looking forward to this auctioning so that they can have a super time shooting the TRPs and booking ad slots, thus adding to their brand equity, were just too thrilled that the auction process went on as expected. 
 Of course, one of the biggies claimed ‘unfair’ methods being adopted at the auction, which he said has now cost him an additional Rs 4 crore for a single player <keyword id="351" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Yuvraj-Singh">Yuvraj Singh</keyword>. And the famous beer baron, who also unsuccessfully tried his hand at giving some good time to people in the skies and turned a huge defaulter to many banks, said the auctioning process was unclear especially with respect to the player he bought and that had to be rectified. Now, this is the same man who still owes crores together to the staff members of his bungled airline company Kingfisher. He had also added the tagline: The king of good times, which now seems rather too stretched and humorous. He happens to be the co-owner of <keyword id="12643" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Royal-Challengers">Royal Challengers</keyword> Bangalore – <keyword id="14678" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Vijay-Mallya">Vijay Mallya</keyword>. 
 Soon after, twitterati and Facebookers were almost laughing out aloud at the allegations and the following complaint Mallya made to <keyword id="121961" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="IPL-governing-council">IPL Governing Council</keyword>. “A man who didn’t pay his staff salaries, but went on to splurge on bare-bodied models for his calendar, and buying players at a whopping sum while he still owes banks thousands of crores alleges that the auction was unfair? Now, that’s too much!” were the generic comments made by those who seemed to be amused by Mallya’s behavior. Man really had no takers for his cry for sympathy and some consideration as far as his ‘cries’ were concerned. 
 The drama that unfolded right at the stage of auctioning is a clear indicator that <keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword> seems to have kicked off to a good start. A melodramatic opening always promises more entertainment ahead. By now, bookies have acquired new cell phones to mint money, quite oblivious to the verdict that has sounded like a death knell to <keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword> chief N Srinivasan. By the time curtain call is made, with all matches being played and cheer girls exhausted after jumping with incredulous and superficial joy each time the ball flies to the pleasure of cricket fans, IPL would have delivered more fun and news than anticipated. 
 Supreme court verdict came after the committee probing the alleged corruption charges in the IPL matches said in its report that Gururaj Meiyappan “the face and team official” of IPL franchise <keyword id="13886" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Chennai-Super-Kings">Chennai Super Kings</keyword>, headed by <keyword id="10138" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni">Mahendra Singh Dhoni</keyword> was indeed corrupt. The court ruled that the allegations of betting and passing information to bookies and players, in order to encourage betting for huge sums of money, ‘stand proved’. 
 In a caution of sorts, the 200 page document submitted to the Supreme Court, the committee had expressed the need to investigate the involvement of Meiyappan and Rajasthan Royals co-owner <keyword id="18641" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Raj-Kundra">Raj Kundra</keyword> need to be investigated further. Supreme Court has upheld the recommendation. The court also felt adequate punishment in the form of life ban was meted out to two players – <keyword id="13418" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="S-Sreesanth">S Sreesanth</keyword> and Ankit Chavan, five years of suspension to Amit Singh, and a year-long suspension to <keyword id="82630" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Siddharth-Trivedi">Siddharth Trivedi</keyword>. 
 Indians have been experiencing quite a few climaxing moments in sports. Earlier this week, the news came in that India was included in Sochi Winter Olympics after being shamed for almost a year, and having just three sports persons walk at the inaugural ceremony under International Olympics Committee flag. Let bygones be bygones, sports persons back home packed their bags in a hurry after <keyword id="6354733" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="IOC">IOC</keyword> generously agreed to include the India which was banned for reasons that it didn’t follow the Olympics charter when it came to selection of sports persons. 
 
Government was pressed into action, minister met all the ‘concerned’ people in order to make things look brighter and made all the arrangements for India to participate in the games again. It was a face-off situation, which still continues to be despite the fact that India finally got to participate in the games. It resembled a last minute hurried addition to list of events, as it would happen in schools! 
 
You see, all that’s well, ends well. What’s with a few months of shame when you still get to hold your flag, with or without pride, at the end of the ceremony. This too shall be forgotten and channels will certainly keep the viewers engaged on IPL enough to wipe out the embarrassment. Then, off we go to make new mistakes again.

The India pacer, who is playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ongoing IPL, promptly reported the matter to BCCI's ACU unit. It is understood that the gambler had lost a lot of money during the India games and messaged <keyword id="261464" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="siraj" source="Orion">Siraj</keyword> out of sheer frustration. India had played white-ball home series against New Zealand and Sri Lanka in January-February before Australia arrived. India won the T20 series against Sri Lanka 2-1 before blanking them 3-0 in the ODI series. Against New Zealand, India won the ODI series 3-0 before triumphing in the T20 series with a 2-1 margin, with the Black Caps winning the lone game of the tour in Ranchi. "It wasn't a bookie who approached Siraj. He is a driver from Hyderabad who is addicted to betting on India matches. He had approached Siraj via WhatsApp after losing a lot of money on India games," a senior BCCI source privy to the developments told PTI on condition of anonymity. "Siraj reported the approach immediately. The law enforcement (Andhra Police) authorities had nabbed the person," the source added. The BCCI had beefed up its ACU network ever since the spot-fixing scandal, involving S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan, Ajit Chandila and then Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team principal Gurunath Meiyappan, was unearthed in 2013. Now, each IPL team has a dedicated ACU official who stays in the same hotel and is there at the ground monitoring all the movements. Also, there is a mandatory ACU workshop for players on the dos and don'ts, and if any player fails to report a corrupt approach, there are sanctions in place. Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan was suspended in 2021 for not reporting a corrupt approach during his IPL stint in the previous season. RCB are currently placed eighth with four points after two wins and three defeats. Siraj reported corrupt approach to BCCI ACU before Australia tour: BCCI source

Two of the most prolific batters in Indian cricket in the last decade <keyword id="6354486" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="virat-kohli" source="Orion">Virat Kohli</keyword> and <keyword id="13937" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rohit-sharma" source="Orion">Rohit Sharma</keyword> will be up against each other on Tuesday. Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) - who won their opening games quite convincingly and ticked off all the boxes with their all-round show - look like a team to beat and in their early predictions the experts have backed these two sides to make it to the playoffs stage. IPL 2023: Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore emerge as experts' top picks

The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=BCCI">BCCI</a> Disciplinary Committee on Christmas Eve decided to defer action on <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Ajit+Chandila">Ajit Chandila</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Hiken+Shah+">Hiken Shah </a>till January 5. That will give the tainted duo enough time till January 4th to file a written response to the charges of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=spot-fixing">spot-fixing</a>. 
 
The three-member committee comprising President Shashank Manohar, Jyotiraditya Scindya and Niranjan Shah met at the Cricket Centre in Mumbai. 
 
Chandila was arrested by the police for trying to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=spot-fixing">spot-fix</a> IPL games in 2013 with Sreesanth and Ankit Chavan from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Rajasthan+Royals">Rajasthan Royals</a>. 
 
Shah approached one of his colleagues from first-class cricket, who was also an IPL player. The approached player then reported it to the franchise, which then passed it BCCI’s Anti Corruption Unit.

BCCI to decide fate of
Chandila and Shah next month

Mobile company <keyword id="215177" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Vivo">Vivo</keyword> today replaced <keyword id="54572" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="PepsiCo">PepsiCo</keyword> as the title sponsor of the high-profile Indian Premier League, a change necessitated by the beverage giant's sudden pullout from a five-year deal that was to end in 2017. 
 "The <keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword> title sponsorship right has been assigned to M/S Vivo mobiles. Vivo is to give the Bank Guarantee in next ten days," the <keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword> said in a statement announcing decisions taken at its all-powerful working committee meeting. 
 
PepsiCo's decision to end its deal with IPL was reportedly caused by the spot-fixing scandal which shook the game in 2013. 
 
Although the company did not come on record to specify the reasons but it was reported that PepsiCo felt the spot- fixing scandal had brought the IPL in disrepute. 
 
In the 2013 season of the IPL, Ankeet Chavan, Ajit Chandila and S Sreesanth were arrested over charges of spot- fixing. This was followed by allegations that Chennai Super Kings team principle Gurunath Meiyappan, and Raj Kundra, co- owner of Rajasthan Royals, were involved in betting. 
 
The BCCI banned the three cricketers for life and the Supreme Court appointed the Justice Mudgal committee to investigate the scandal. 
 
The Supreme Court appointed the Justice RM Lodha panel and the quantum of punishment was decided, with CSK and Rajasthan Royals banned from the tournament for two years. Meiyappan and Kundra, on the other hand, were banned for life. 
 Among other decisions taken at today's meeting, <keyword id="69300" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="nike">Nike</keyword> was retained as the apparel sponsor of the Indian cricket team.

Vivo replaces PepsiCo as title sponsor of the Indian Premier League

The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Indian+Premier+League&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Indian Premier League</a> (IPL) is the most-attended cricket league on Earth. It ranks sixth among <keyword id="6356028" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sports">sports</keyword> leagues, and became the first sporting event in history to be broadcast live on YouTube back in 2010. 
 Brand IPL is a beast. It was pegged at a whopping $3.2 billion in 2014, and <keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword> claims the 2015 <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Indian+Premier+League&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">IPL</a> season contributed over $182 million to the Indian economy. 
 
In 2016, the title sponsor of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Indian+Premier+League&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">IPL</a> is <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vivo+Electronics&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Vivo Electronics</a>. That means the league is now officially known as the <keyword id="215177" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Vivo">Vivo</keyword> <keyword id="6354831" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Indian-Premier-League">Indian Premier League</keyword>. Just like the IPL, the history of IPL’s title sponsorship is also muddled in a bit of controversy, confusion and drama. 
 
Back in 2008, DLF, Indian's biggest real estate company, paid a hefty sum of Rs. 200 Crores (around $36.25 million), to own the title rights for the first five years of the tournament. However, after the given period, DLF decided not to renew its contract. This forced <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=BCCI&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">BCCI</a> to issue a new tender, with a base price of Rs. 300 Crores. 
 
This was also the time when the match fixing scandal struck hard, and there was widespread skepticism about the future of the tournament.

Officials were positive that despite all the negative colours IPL had been painted in, the league will endure. 
 
The deal was clinched for a solid Rs 396.8 Crores (around $71.77 million) for the next five years (2013-17). <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Airtel&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Airtel</a>, India’s largest telecom company also bid Rs. 316 Crores (around $57.27 million), but was obviously outbid. 
 
However, in 2015, the beverage giant pulled out from a five-year deal that was to end in 2017. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=PepsiCo&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">PepsiCo</a>'s decision to end its deal with IPL was reportedly caused by the spot-fixing scandal which shook the game in 2013.

Pepsi was worried the game was in "disrepute" according to the report.Despite being pretty unknown in most of the world, cricket is by far India's most popular sport, and the IPL is now its biggest and most-watched tournament. It is loosely based on American sporting tournaments like the NBA, with big franchises and a playoff system.Many teams get financial backing from Indian celebrities, and superstar players from all over the world flock to India in April and May to play. Much of the IPL's appeal comes from its glamour, and the short "Twenty20" format it uses. Twenty20s last about three hours, a lot less time than traditional cricket matches (which can run to up to five days at the international level) making them far more accessible and easy to watch for fans.From next season, the IPL will be sponsored by Vivo Electronics, a Chinese phonemaker.

Pepsi just pulled its sponsorship from the world's biggest cricket league after yet another match-fixing scandal

<keyword id="6354267" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sachin-Tendulkar">Sachin Tendulkar</keyword> once again proved he is more than cricket. The iconic Sachin Tendulkar today celebrated his 43rd birthday by playing cricket with children from the ‘Make-A-Wish India’ organisation in the city, even as the fraternity wished him and waxed eloquence. 

	Tendulkar spent some time with the children, teaching them the basics of batting, bowling and fielding at the MIG Club. He posted the same on his official Facebook page.
 

	Tendulkar retired from all forms of cricket in November 2013 during the Test match against West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium.
 

	Tendulkar is the leading run-scorer in Tests and ODIs. He is the only cricketer to have hit 100 international centuries, and the first to score a double century in ODIs.
 

	Tendulkar received India’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna from the President Pranav Mukherjee in 2014. He is the youngest recipient to date and the first ever sportsperson to receive the award.
 

	As he stepped into his 43rd year, wishes started to pour in on Twitter.
 “Many happy returns of the day champion @sachin_rt have a blessed year!” former India captain and long-time teammate <keyword id="6364325" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Anil-Kumble">Anil Kumble</keyword> wrote on his Twitter handle. Sachin Tendulkar imparts cricket training to children to celebrate his 43rd birthday

Mirpur: <keyword id="6364325" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Anil-Kumble">Anil Kumble</keyword>'s India record of 6 for 12 has been surpassed by an unlikely bowler in <keyword id="258548" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Stuart-Binny">Stuart Binny</keyword>, who dismantled Bangladesh with exemplary figures of 6 for 4 in 4.4 overs as the tourists took the series 2-0 with at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium on Tuesday. "I'd love to take this wicket wherever I go," joked Binny after bowling India to a win that looked distant after they folded for 105 in 26.3 overs. 
 
In his third ODI, Binny picked up those scarcely believable figures by bowling honest, stump-to-stump medium pace on a Mirpur surface that assisted movement and produced considerable lift, more so after a two-hour rain delay early in the match. If India's batsmen had struggled against debutant seamer Taskin Ahmed, who took 5 for 23 to set the record for a Bangladesh debutant, then the hosts were totally floored by Binny to be all out for 58 in 17.4 overs. 
 
His analysis pipped Kumble's 21-year-old record achieved against West Indies on November 27, 1993 at Eden Gardens during the Hero Cup final. They are also the ninth-best figures by an ODI bowler overall. 
 
Binny, 30, came on at first change in the 12th over with the hosts 39 for 2 and removed Mushfiqur Rahim with his fourth ball, the Bangladesh captain gloving a catch to the wicketkeeper down the legside. In his second over, he removed Mithun Ali and Mahmudullah in successive balls, and though he missed a hat-trick, the Karnataka allrounder collected a fourth in due time when Mashrafe Mortaza edged a superb moving delivery to Wriddhiman Saha. That gave him figures of 4-2-4-4. 
 In his fifth over, Binny bowled <keyword id="810118" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Nasir-Hossain">Nasir Hossain</keyword> to record a five-wicket haul and two balls later the Bangladesh innings ended when Al-Amin Hossain was bowled for 0. India had been bowled out for the lowest ODI total against Bangladesh, but thanks to Binny and Mohit Sharma (4 for 22) to leave the home team stunned. 
 
Binny was voted Man of the Match, not surprisingly. "I think you wait for an opportunity when you're on top and you try to take it as far as you can. I got that opportunity today and made the most of it," he said.

Binny's 6 For 4 Breaks Kumble's 21-Year Indian Record

The Indian team led by <a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/ms-dhoni/4001/4057">MS Dhoni</a> to contest the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 in South Africa in 2007 went from being rank outsiders - the oldest player of that squad was Ajit Agarkar at 29 and there were nine under the age of 25 - but ended up winning the trophy to change the landscape of world cricket.

The left-hand top-order batsman from Delhi used the 2007 World Twenty20 to pitchfork himself back into Test plans, scoring 227 runs in the tournament with a best of 75 in the final. His first Test since December 2005 came a few months after the World Twenty20, and by mid-2008 Gambhir was chosen as opening partner to Virender Sehwag. Gambhir’s Test and ODI careers were successful until early 2013, when he was axed from all formats following a prolonged slump. He last played an ODI in January 27 and was handed a Test recall this summer in England, but 25 runs in four innings could have closed the curtains on his career.

On the domestic front, Uthappa had a strong 2013-14 season, scoring 374 runs in five Ranji Trophy games for Karnataka and 538 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

A decent IPL followed for <keyword id="6354506" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Royal-Challengers-Bangalore">Royal Challengers Bangalore</keyword> (376 runs, five wickets) but it wasn't enough to earn Yuvraj a place in India's ODI squad for Bangladesh or India. Have we seen the last of the Player of the Tournament in the 2011 World Cup?

 Undoubtedly the biggest gainer from 2007. Given the captaincy of the T20 side without any domestic leadership experience, Dhoni led the side to glory and the rest, as they say, is history. He has since captained India to the 50-over World Cup and No 1 in Tests, apart from enhancing his reputation as arguably the best limited-overs finishers. Dhoni's success with IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings - they have won two IPL titles as well as the <keyword id="56308" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Champions-League-Twenty20">Champions League Twenty20</keyword> - has helped him become the richest cricketer around.

Rohit, now 27, still has time on his side to prove that he belongs at Test level. Looks a certainty to tour Australia and New Zealand, injury aside, for next year's World Cup.

With Yuvraj, probably the second-most naturally talented Indian cricketer of the last decade. But like Rohit, the allrounder from Baroda has not lived up to the huge expectations. With his pace dropping and a series of injuries taking their toll, Irfan has been relegated to domestic cricket and the IPL, but recently stated that he'll be back in India blue.

India's No 1 spinner in 2007 (he took seven wickets at the tournament), Harbhajan is today looking for way back into India's plans. The veteran offspinner, who has 413 wickets from 101 Tests, is currently out of the Indian squad.
