The Indian Air Force has deployed one Chinook and Mi-17V5 <keyword id="20334867" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="helicopter" source="keywords">helicopter</keyword> to carry out human assistance and relief operations in the Kedar valley of Uttarakhand. They will be working in coordination with the state government authorities, said Defence officials.<br /><br />Heavy rains have severely damaged the route in the <keyword id="22064164" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rudraprayag-district" source="keywords">Rudraprayag district</keyword> on Wednesday night. The rescue and relief work to evacuate the people stranded is underway.<br /><br />According to the Uttarakhand police, as many as 737 people were rescued by helicopter and at least 2,670 people were taken to <keyword id="22636299" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sonprayag" source="keywords">Sonprayag</keyword> by the relief forces as of Thursday.<br /><br />Taking to its official handle on X, Uttarakhand police posted, "The rescue work of people stranded on the Shri Kedarnath Dham Yatra route is continuing. 737 passengers were rescued by helicopter throughout the day."<br /><br />"2,670 passengers were taken to Sonprayag. As per the district administration, there is a problem only at one or two places on the footpath, where security personnel are helping the pilgrims cross the road.<br /><br />A pilgrim who reached Kedarnath Dham said, "The footpath has been repaired, but there is still a problem at one or two places. Good arrangements are being made by the district administration, Rudraprayag.".<br /><br />Notably, so far, 10 lakh, 93 thousand, and 632 devotees have visited Baba Kedarnath. These days, around 150 to 200 pilgrims are reaching Kedarnath Dham. Along with helicopter services, devotees of Baba are also reaching the Dham on foot.<br /><br />Rudraprayag district administration said that their effort is to repair the footpath as soon as possible so that more devotees can reach the shrine of Baba Kedarnath. Hundreds of workers of PWD Guptkashi were engaged in repairing the footpath. Apart from this, the work of repairing the Sonprayag-Gaurikund highway is also going on at a fast pace. Vehicle movement will also start here soon.
