Snapdeal has also added a few engagement activities on its app. More than a million sessions of Spin the Wheel, Scratch Cards, Daily Visits Recorder, Timer-based challenges are unlocked every day on the <keyword id="4425196" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Snapdeal-App">Snapdeal app</keyword>. These gamification initiatives incentivize users in a variety of ways through instant rewards, special deals etc. Snapdeal also witnessed a hike its web traffic. In October 2019, the monthly traffic on Snapdeal crossed 240 million visits – recording an all-time high. As per regulatory documents filed by Snapdeal, its consolidated revenues grew to ₹925.3 crores in 2018-19 as compared to ₹535.9 in 2017-18. The e-commerce platform also reduced its losses to ₹186 crores in FY19 as compared to ₹611 crores in FY18. “Our transacting customers grew 2.2 times and traffic surged 2.3 times to 70 million unique users/month. And all this in a year when the e-commerce companies in India burnt through $2.5 billion in the pursuit of growth,” said <keyword id="219793" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kunal-Bahl">Kunal Bahl</keyword>, Snapdeal’s CEO &amp; Co-founder, in a blog. In 2017, Snapdeal, which was actually one of the early e-commerce players in the country, was caught in the grip of increased competition from Amazon and Flipkart. The company lost a huge chunk of its market share and posted a net loss of ₹4,638 Crores in 2016-17.. Soon after, there were many speculations about the company being in the verge of a shutdown as a merger with Flipkart too didn’t work out. However, the founders Kunal Bahl and <keyword id="396598" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rohit-Bansal">Rohit Bansal</keyword> decided to turnaround the fate of their business and launched Snapdeal 2.0 in July 2017. “Our strategy is to focus on the needs of the value-conscious buyers in India – they constitute the bulk of our users. They are also the fastest-growing mega segment in Indian e-commerce and will be nearly 400 million strong over the next few years,” Bahl said in the blog. And in the last two years, Snapdeal has gone on to add over 60,000 new seller partners, who have added over 50 million new listings on the platform. Snapdeal’s work culture too has seen a turnaround, with a swanky new office, television sets across the open office where top performers are appreciated. It has also seen its employees return to be a part of its growth story. About 50 employees have returned to Snapdeal in the last one year, which includes one of its chief architects who had gone on to join a foodtech unicorn as the CTO. The company says that the average tenure of an employee in the company is now over 4 years and even has employees who have celebrated a decade with Snapdeal.

Anand Piramal makes a personal investment in e-commerce comeback king Snapdeal

People aware of the ongoing developments within Jasper Infotech told ET, the board of the Delhi-based company is also expected to approve the sale of its troubled online marketplace Snapdeal, to rival <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>, over the course of the next 2-3 days. Flipkart made a revised offer of $950 million to Snapdeal. Snapdeal founders <keyword id="219793" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kunal-Bahl">Kunal Bahl</keyword> and <keyword id="396598" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rohit-Bansal">Rohit Bansal</keyword> have been arguing that they are prepared to run and operate, what has been described as a stripped-down version of the company, sources told ET. Meanwhile, FreeCharge’s sale will come as a breather for Snapdeal as it requires capital at the moment. The company is estimated to have recorded Rs 300 crore in transaction revenue on about 12 million transactions in April.

Investors just gave it $50 million in a Series C financing; it has raised more than $100 million total.
<a href="http://techcrunch.com/2013/04/01/ebay-builds-up-its-bric-strategy-leads-50m-investment-in-india-e-commerce-giant-snapdeal/">Amazon and eBay both reportedly wanted a piece</a> of the company, but <keyword id="6357395" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="eBay">eBay</keyword> was able to nudge out its competitor and lead the round. eBay has aggressive growth plans over the next three years, and it believes a good portion of that growth (12%) will come from BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia India and China). So it's easy to see why they'd want to get a piece of <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword>.
According to TechCrunch, Snapdeal's gross merchandise value is growing 400% year over year, and it's expected to generate ~ $400 million in sales this year from its 20 million users.
When we spoke with the company in late 2011, it had 10 million members and was growing by 1.5 million members per month.
"Eighty percent of our revenue comes from everyday merchandise, and much of that comes from people interested in and driven by promoted daily deals," <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ebay-plans-to-double-its-sales-to-300-billion-in-the-next-3-years-and-take-on-amazon-2013-3">Snapdeal founder and CEO Kunal Bahl</a> told Business Insider then.

Snapdeal, A 3-Year-Old Startup In India, Had Amazon And eBay Battling To Give It Tens Of Millions Of Dollars

<keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> could soon have to vacate its position as India's numero uno eCommerce portal. Online marketplace <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> has hit a sales run rate of $3.5 billion this month, known as gross merchandise value (GMV) in e-commerce parlance, bringing it closer to the scale of Flipkart, the country's largest e-tailer. A Snapdeal spokesperson told TOI that sales done by merchants on its platform had risen four times in the current month as compared to the same period last year, propelling the e-tailer's numbers. 
 Backed by <keyword id="6355311" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Japan">Japan</keyword>'s <keyword id="280185" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Softbank-Corp">SoftBank Corp</keyword>, Snapdeal fights directly with Bengaluru-based Flipkart which is said to be currently clocking $4.5 billion in GMV (inclusive of Myntra) and <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> which is closing in on the $2-billion mark. GMV is the overall sales done by merchants on an e-commerce platform, without factoring discounts, out of which the e-tailer gets between 5-20% as margin depending on the category which qualifies as its revenue according to The Economic Times. 
 
While talking to TOI, Kunal Bahl, co-founder of the Delhi-based Snapdeal, said the e-tailer had been highly capital efficient while getting to this number having invested a fraction of the funds compared to other players. "Our focus on building apure-play marketplace versus an inventory-led or hybrid business models like others has played a key role in our rapid growth. Also the fact that we didn't always have access to easy capital, ensured that we built a capital efficient cul ure," he told ET. 
 Since 2011, when it pivoted rom being a daily deals site, Snapdeal has been operating as a marketplace. Snapdeal has raised $1.1 billion from more than a dozen investors ike <keyword id="6357395" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="eBay">eBay</keyword> , BlackRock, Temasek among others, while Flipkart has amassed $2.5 billion since it started operations as an online book sellers in 2007. 
 
Even as GMV numbers grow, ecommerce players have been beswith excessive cashburn in the range of $20-30 mil ion per month which has led to he need for constant capital in usion from investors. The bulk of the capital for both the ecommerce majors came last year amid a frenetic fund-raising environment which saw $4 billion flow into Indian consumer internet firms. "We've invested some of the funds on acquisitions, although these were done largely in stocks." 
 The acquisitions will materially enhance buying and selling experiences in our company's ecosystem going forward," Bahl told ET. Snapdeal bought online recharge platform FreeCharge last month for an estimated $400 million along with a string of other acquisitions, 10 in all. Valued at $5 billion, Snapdeal has been aggressively hiring leadership talent within the country and the US, the latest being <keyword id="802" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Gaurav-Gupta">Gaurav Gupta</keyword> as VP-engineering, amid a handful of top-level exits from the company.

Some of the Indian startups such as <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> and <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> have already made their mark in the industry in terms of gross revenue earnings. Now, cab aggregator <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword> will soon be joining the league. The online cab aggregator might earn gross revenue of $1 billion (Rs 6,364 crore) by the next quarter. 
 The Bengaluru-based company is expanding rapidly to smaller towns and cities after it has acquired rival <keyword id="1428790" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="TaxiforSure">TaxiForSure</keyword> in March. It aims to provide 5 lakh trips every day in the next three months to reach the $1 billion revenue target, three company executives told the Economic Times. 
 
This will make it only the third Indian startup after e-Commerce companies Flipkart and Snapdeal to have crossed the coveted milestone. 
 "$1 billion run rate looks achievable in the next quarter," said one of the senior executives. According to one of the persons quoted above, Ola, which raised $400 million (Rs 4,456 crore) last month led by Russian billionaire <keyword id="303107" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Yuri-Milner">Yuri Milner</keyword>'s <keyword id="794823" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="DST-Global">DST Global</keyword> and is preparing for another round of fund raising that could close in the next four months. 
 
"In the next 12 months it will be a $10-billion (Rs 63,640 crore) valuation company," the source said. 
 
However, a spokesman for Ola declined to comment on the latest developments. 
 
The four-year-old company was valued at $2.4 billion in its last round of funding. It has received around $700 million in funding from a slew of marquee investors. 
 
The online cab aggregator has revenue run rate of around $450-500 million. It has to maintain its rapid pace of growth, estimated at over 10% every week, even as it expands to 200 cities in the coming months. The company sources that ET spoke to said both Ola and TaxiForSure together clock up about 2.3 lakh trips per day. 
 
 Moreover, Ola's spurt in revenues is being aided by the rapid growth being registered by TaxiFor-Sure — which has doubled revenue in the two months since it was bought by Ola. Earlier this month, TaxiForSure announced that it completed 10 million rides. 
 Ola has plans to expand its base further as it is also expecting a revenue spurt from new services such as delivery of food, which it introduced earlier this year. It is also looking to tap the <keyword id="1186907" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="grocery-business">grocery business</keyword> and is training about 90 delivery boys in Bangalore to launch the service.
