These gamification initiatives incentivize users in a variety of ways through instant rewards, special deals etc. Snapdeal also witnessed a hike its web traffic. In October 2019, the monthly traffic on Snapdeal crossed 240 million visits – recording an all-time high. Snapdeal crosses 100 million app downloads; user base grows by 37%

In the past he used <keyword id="6354616" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Twitter">Twitter</keyword> to slam <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword>, but <keyword id="225032" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sachin-Bansal">Sachin Bansal</keyword> did an exception on Wednesday when he came out in defence of the e-commerce rival after <keyword id="6355923" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aamir-Khan">Aamir Khan</keyword>'s <keyword id="642964" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="intolerance">intolerance</keyword> remark sparked outrage also bringing massive criticism for Snapdeal. "This is a flawed logic. Brands don't buy into brand ambassadors personal opinions. @snapdeal shouldn't face this," Bansal, the co-founder and CEO of India's largest online marketplace <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> tweeted. 

	Many people enraged by Bollywood star Aamir Khan's recent controversial statements on rising intolerance in India vented their frustration on Snapdeal, for which Khan is a brand ambassador 
 

	Internet users downvoted Snapdeal's app on the Google Play Store and commented that others uninstall the app as well. "Uninstall snapdeal app #App wapsi Amir Khan plzz leave our country as soon as possible no Deal with snapdeal just uninstaled snapdeal App," an app store user who goes by the name Sujit Kadam wrote.
 

	This hasn't affected Snapdeal's rankings on the Play Store yet, according to App Annie. Snapdeal's ranking has remained constant at 27 in the the list of top apps. Flipkart is ranked at 9 and Amazon India at 14, according to App Annie.
 

	Flipkart itself was at the receiving end of such a protest in April as users angry with the company's move to join Airtel Zero down-voted and uninstalled its app in protest. 
 

	The last time around on Twitter, Bansal wasn't very charitable towards Snapdeal. In May, he took a stab at Snapdeal co-founder Rohit Bansal who reportedly suggested that India didn't have the right kind of software engineers it needed.
 

	"Don't blame India for your failure to hire great engineers. They join for culture and challenge," Bansal said. The Snapdeal co-founder later clarified that he was quoted "out of context."

Aamir Khan's intolerance remark: Flipkart's Sachin Bansal comes to Snapdeal's rescue

In a bid to attract more and more customers, <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> has integrated with companies like <keyword id="6359128" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Redbus">Redbus</keyword>, Zomato and <keyword id="132652" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cleartrip">Cleartrip</keyword> so that customers can directly use the mobile app to book bus tickets, flight tickets, hotel tickets and order food. 
 
While Cleartrip, Zomato and RedBus have got access to Snapdeal's huge user base, Snapdeal will be earning a commission for each booking for these companies made through its app. 
 
This can prove to be <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Snapdeal-is-now-valued-over-6-billion-Thanks-to-200-mnfunding/articleshow/50992078.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">financially beneficial for Snapdeal</a> since booking air tickets is a large gross merchandise value (GMV) category and food ordering is category that sees high frequency. 
 
"Horizontals are looking at monetising their user base with a focus on GMV and repeat use cases. As funding environment becomes tougher, growth in these metrics will stand out," a Snapdeal investor told ET on the condition of anonymity. 
 
It was last year that Snapdeal CEO Kunal Bahl had said that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Snapdeal-aims-to-overthrow-Flipkart-says-CEO-Kunal-Bahl/articleshow/48741092.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">they would surpass archrival Flipkart</a> in terms of GMV by March 2016, declaring an open war in the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Swords-are-drawn-Snapdeal-and-Flipkart-are-challenging-each-other-to-become-numero-uno/articleshow/48770391.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Indian e-commerce space</a>. 
 
GMV refers to the overall sales by merchants on an e-commerce platform, without factoring discounts. Out of these, the e-tailer gets 5 to 20% as margin on an average. 
 
It was only two months back that Snapdeal had tied up with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Now-buyProperty-on-Sale-from-Snapdeal/articleshow/50589572.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">real estate developers</a> to launch real estate and financial services on its website, to boost the GMVs.

Having ruled like a king in the Internet wallet segment , Paytm has some serious competition from Snapdeal-owned Freecharge. Snapdeal-owned online recharge and utility payments platform Freecharge has launched a digital wallet. The combination of Freecharge and Snapdeal will create one of the largest mobile commerce ecosystems," Freecharge Cofounder Kunal Shah told The Economic Times. 
 
The company is planning to provide for nearly Rs 1,000 crore of cashbacks through the wallet as festive shopping picks up during October-December. 
 
The new wallet, which will allow consumers to make payments for transactions on both Freecharge and Snapdeal, is expected to strengthen the ecommerce company's position as it battles two of India's largest ecommerce companies, Paytm and Flipkart. 
 
Freecharge has tied up with YES Bank to launch the wallet. During the launch, new Freecharge Chief Operating Officer Govind Rajan took a jab at Paytm, comparing the two apps on features such as app size and transfer charges to the bank. Freecharge has also partnered with the payment bank licensee FINO to build scale and to reach out the underserved population, it said in a statement. 
 
Alibaba-backed Paytm recently received a payment bank licence from the Reserve Bank of India. Paytm, which owns a prepaid wallet licence already, claims to have more than 100 million wallet users in the country.

Meanwhile, Amazon saw 91% of its new customers coming from these towns. Amazon also registered most of its sales in the first 24 hours, from these cities. Snapdeal which has been running its Snap-Diwali sale said that nearly 92% of the orders received so far are from non-metros. It saw a whopping increase in orders from Bharuch (Gujarat), Pali (Rajasthan), Tezpur (Assam), and Paradip (Odisha). “The trends from the Diwali sale are an unequivocal confirmation that e-commerce is now a strong channel for buyers in smaller cities,” said Kunal Bahl, CEO &amp; co-founder, Snapdeal. Local language app aids e-commerce sales Flipkart says 60-70% of its business from Tier 2 and 3 cities. This made the e-commerce giant turn its focus from English to introduce Hindi language on its app. It plans to expand it to other languages soon. “With Hindi content, the selection and range of offers has been updated and tens and millions of new consumers can access the app a preferred language,” Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Officer, told Business Insider earlier. However, contrary to popular belief, these are not people lured by discounts only. “Affordability programmes such as no-cost EMI, exchange, instant bank discounts and more continue to enable record number of customers to upgrade to premium products. With more first-time shoppers from small towns than ever before and tens of thousands of small sellers across India already seeing success, we are excited,” said Manish Tiwary, Vice President - Category Management, Amazon India.

 <keyword id="2908469" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mohit-Bagga">Mohit Bagga</keyword> and <keyword id="2908470" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tajinder-Pal-Singh-Chouhan">Tajinder Pal Singh Chouhan</keyword> of CodeBibber recently stumbled upon a security breach in <keyword id="6354576" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Facebook">Facebook</keyword> login protocol that websites are using for authenticating the user, which can expose your data on multiple platforms. 
 
 
In simple words, whenever you choose the “Login through Facebook” option on any website or mobile app, you expose every other account where you logged in through Facebook. 
 
 “We were hacking around the Facebook login that gives us the access token. We wondered if we could post other login requests to <keyword id="830092" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Zomato">Zomato</keyword> and <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> as to see if they accept the token because it is a valid token for Facebook. We tried and were successfully logged in,” said Mohit Bagga, co-founder and CTO, CodeBibber. 
 
 
He added that they did several checks on various platforms before confirming this claim. 
 
 
“We have a toolbox that gives you total control over headers and parameters that you want to pass through the server and we use mitm-proxy (man in the middle proxy or a Java SSL proxy) for voice passing. So we were seeing what kind of requests were going from an app. We just replicated it through the access token given by Facebook and got logged in from that platform,” said Mohit. 
 
 Snapdeal told BI that the access token is for specific apps and they follow all security measures. Zomato and <keyword id="1666592" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Foodpanda">Foodpanda</keyword> did not comment on this. 
 
 
He further added that by this access token one replicates oneself as the user and can access all personal details of that user. 
 
 
“We tested out this security breach on our new venture TOTUM app’s test run and to our amazement, by using a single access token that we received from Facebook, we were able to access the entire account history of that user on a series of big players like Zomato, Foodpanda, Uber and Snapdeal,” he added. 
 
 
Facebook said that this is neither a breach nor vulnerability in login. 
 
“This appears to be an issue we discussed in detail at F8 2015 and is not a vulnerability in Facebook Login, but rather improper implementation of Login by certain apps. To avoid this issue, developers should ensure their apps are properly validating access tokens and securing authentication flows. We provide resources and tools to help developers use Facebook Login securely in their apps,” Facebook told BI. 
 
 
Mohit asserted the same, that it is a security breach at the end of the players like Zomato, Ola, Snapdeal and not at Facebook. Facebook has given the guidelines but the players are not using them. If one posts a login request to Zomato with the access token, Zomato do not even have the basic check to detect that it is coming from another app. 
 
 
“Facebook has the option so that we can privately exchange the data between the clients in the server. Facebook has the option which gives an encrypted access ID/token. The players are exposing users’ data to everyone,” said Mohit stating the solution to protect the users from such security breach. 
 
 
Expressing his doubts, he also added that all said and done, Facebook do have the upper edge here. If Facebook gains the token, it can easily scrap all data through all platforms anytime they want. 
 
 They might even be doing it; one cannot be too sure in a world where Snoopgate and <keyword id="137092" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="cyber-security">Cyber security</keyword> exists side by side. 
 
 
The only good news is Flipkart is still secured. They tried to invade into Flipkart but failed. Flipkart’s second level security step where you need to give the users’ contact number and password keeps the user’s profile safe from snooping.

One of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=snapdeal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Snapdeal’s</a> investors, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=kalaari+capital&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Kalaari Capital</a>, has apparently agreed to sale of the e-commerce site to <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=softbank&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">SoftBank</a> has been coaxing Kalaari and another investor Nexus Venture Partners for <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword>’s sale to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=flipkart&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Flipkart</a> for around $1 billion. Initially, <keyword id="1397792" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kalaari-Capital">Kalaari Capital</keyword> was not convinced but now it has, reportedly, joined hands with <keyword id="163404" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Softbank">SoftBank</keyword> for the proposed sale. "After sustained discussions, they (Kalaari Capital) are now on board... There is an understanding that they will work with SoftBank down the line,” ET quotes of the sources as saying. SoftBank requires assent of two investors to push for sale of Jasper-owned Snapdeal. However, nothing has been confirmed by Snapdeal's founders <keyword id="219793" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kunal-Bahl">Kunal Bahl</keyword> and Rohit Bansal. If the sale goes through, SoftBank will become a significant shareholder by making a substantial investment, expected to range between $1billion and $1.5 billion. As reported by ET last week, Soft-Bank is also considering a sizeable investment in <keyword id="6357120" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PayTM">Paytm</keyword> owner One97 Communications in a deal that could value the Noida-based company at over $7 billion. SoftBank, which has so far invested about $2 billion in Indian startups including ride-hailing app Ola, hotel room aggregator Oyo and hyperlocal commerce company Grofers, is aiming to shed some flab in its portfolio.

B-school students who have been a part of <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> internships are often seen giving rave reviews about the company, and it's testimony to the fact that this e-commerce company manifests a great work culture for interns and employees alike. 
 We came across one such review by student <keyword id="186315" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="sakshi-singh">Sakshi Singh</keyword> who studies in <keyword id="3860398" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="shailesh-jain-mehta-school-of-management">Shailesh Jain Mehta School of Management</keyword>, IIT Bombay. She has always been "fascinated by the fast-paced, ever-changing world of e-Commerce." 
 
Sakshi got her first chance to experience the inside e-commerce world when she bagged an internship opportunity with Snapdeal during her summer placements. 
 
"I remember, after the selection process was over, HR tweeted a picture of us and since then I was even closely following Snapdeal all over from news feed to social media. I was waiting for my journey to kick-start," she wrote in her blog on Insideiim.com 
 Sakshi went on to explain why she fell in love with this company and is in awe of <keyword id="219793" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kunal-Bahl">Kunal Bahl</keyword>, the founder of Snapdeal. This is what her feedback tells us about the company: 
 
It's one hell of an easy going place 
"A day before joining, all interns received a mail stating that we needed to be in formals for Induction. So, we showed up in an exquisite Induction Hall the next day, all suited-booted and set to conquer the e-commerce world. But we soon learned that the HR managers were simply messing with us. Snapdeal doesn’t have a dress code. It’s a very open and informal place to be in. During induction, we learned more about Snapdeal and also about the heads of various verticals. They shared their vision for the organization and their functional expertise, which helped me frame the right approach for my coming days at Snapdeal..." 
 
Snapdeal has interactive, warm and motivating employees "Next day, I was warmly received by my mentor and manager and was introduced to the whole team. I was overwhelmed to know that my project was the key KPI of the whole team. But, it struck me - "What should I do now?" The project title was a 5-word sentence, the meaning of which was a struggle to decipher. Even <keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword> failed to help me. So, I had no option but to bother my team members on the very first day. After a few hours of discussion, I had a roadmap for me. In the course of the next 7 weeks, I interacted with numerous employees from multiple departments. Everybody I met at Snapdeal was very transparent, receptive and extremely supportive." 
 
It offers great exposure and provides superb mentors 
"The real challenge of my project was - In the current set of resources, the system can’t be optimized anymore. It either needed a lot of money or a lot of time. But the system definitely needed improvement. So, I decided to seek some guidance from my mentor. His simple reply to this was - Think innovative, Something new. You are new to the system, and so you don’t have any bias. So, just forget the system in place and find us a solution. 
 
It was here, Sakshi says, where her quest for innovation began. A comprehensive primary research plan was laid out. Right from visiting third party partners to listening to customer comments, competitor benchmarking, mystery shopping, surveys, understanding other functions inside Snapdeal, Sakshi was at her game in full force. "I used to discuss all my ideas with my team and manager, and almost on daily basis. I learned a lot from them. While research helped me in generating ideas, discussions helped me in full-proofing and validating those ideas." 
 
Interns are like permanent employees 
"At one point in time, I almost felt like a permanent employee, not just responsibility wise, but because I was also given the freedom to make my own decisions. I loved my job, I loved my office and I loved the energy at Snapdeal." 
 
There's opportunity for networking with other B-school students and learning from diversity 
"There was one more dimension to my internship. Snapdeal had interns from 15 different B-Schools in India and we all stayed together. This facilitated networking and knowledge sharing. I learned more about other B-Schools as well." 
 
You don't leave before a crazy and fun party 
"We interns had a super duper active WhatsApp group. You’re stuck with some problem, or just need a foosball partner, simply drop a text on WhatsApp group. Not to mention fun parties, Sunday shopping and late evening gossips. On our graduation day, we received an amazing party, heard straight from thwe founder Kunal Bahl, had good food, played kickass games, clicked a lot of pictures and bid goodbye to Snapdeal. 
 
She concluded saying - "The day I landed in Delhi, I had no clue what to expect but as I was leaving, I had a collection of memories and valuable lessons for a lifetime...."
