The controversies around <keyword id="6612" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Smriti-Irani">Smriti Irani</keyword>’s educational qualifications had almost faded, but then came her claim of possessing a degree from the prestigious <keyword id="6378934" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Yale-University">Yale University</keyword>. 
 
Apparently, Mrs. Irani was a part of the troop of 11 Indian MPs who went to the Yale University campus located in New Haven, Connecticut last year. They were there to attend a six-day leadership program with the faculty of this prestigious institution. 
 
However, by claiming it to be a degree, the HRD minister has attracted a lot of criticism and satire from Twitterati, who never leave a chance to make fun of any situation that they can. 
 
A few months back, we had seen a new way of making hashtags for trending topics. These hashtags took the word Yo in the starting and made fun about the concerned person. Some of the examples of this ‘Yo’ trend are #YoKejriwalSoHonest, #YoKejriwalSoBrave, #YoRahulSoDumb, and #YoSagarikaSoSecular. 
 
The mere fact that the related hashtag #YoSmritiSoCertified is trending on Twitter indicates that people have taken a liking for the above topic.

In the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=modi+cabinet+reshuffle&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Modi Cabinet rejig</a>, her demotion to Textiles Ministry is also stunning, but many predicted that she won’t be able to hold on to education ministry for long. 
 
Several issues eclipsed her stint at the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=HRD+ministry&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">HRD ministry</a>, starting with her degree controversy.

Irani was mired in a controversy over her claims of possessing a Yale degree. Secondly, she scrapped the four-year format at the Delhi University and went back with the three-year format, which was against the wishes of the VC and UGC. 
 
The HRD Ministry was also at loggerheads with the Niti Ayog over accreditation and other issues. Experts say Irani took Niti Ayog as interference. 
 
Her handling of suicide case of Dalit scholar at Hyderabad Central University, Rohith Vemula, was also criticised by many. 
 
The recent Jawaharlal Nehru University row involving Kanhaiya Kumar also didn’t add to her sheen. Irani also played with fire when replaced German with Sanskrit as the third language in Kendriya Vidyalayas in 2014. 
 
Irani was also at the centre of the controversy when she was accused of intervening in the affairs of IIT-Delhi prompting the resignation of Director RK Shevgaonkar, two years before his term.

Even though the move was quite anticipated in the party rungs, the demotion came as a surprise to many.
