On Tuesday, <keyword id="6361542" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Skoda">Skoda</keyword> Auto India launched a limited edition version of its mid-sized sedan <keyword id="831384" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Rapid">Rapid</keyword>, with price starting at Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) 
 
"The Skoda Rapid has been wowing buyers with its style, practicality and refinement since its launch in India... Customers ordering the new Rapid Anniversary Edition will get even more value for their money," <keyword id="246795" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Skoda-Auto-India">Skoda Auto India</keyword>, Director - Sales, Service &amp; Marketing, Ashutosh Dixit said. 
 
The Rapid Anniversary editions will be available at all authorised Skoda dealerships and showrooms across India, till September 2015, the company said.

Skoda Rapid limited edition launched at Rs 6.99 lakh in India

Skoda Superb combines in it elegant looks and amazing functionality assuring fuel economy and lesser emissions. Automatic 7-speed DSG transmission is a highly desirable feature. Skoda Rapid The Skoda Rapid is to be fitted with a new BS6 1.0-litre tsi motor which will put out 108 bhp. Carlovers say this is truly a masterpiece of Skoda as it has retained the conventional design elements of the brand besides incorporating some interesting avant-grade aspects. The sporty diesel engine will combine in it lesser emissions and higher fuel economy. The top highlight of the car is the manual 5-speed transmission. The starting price will be Rs. 8,81,916. 4. Skoda Karoq To be launched in India in April, the Skoda Karoq will come with a 1.5-litre tsi engine that is coupled with a seven-speed DSG gearbox. The customers will also enjoy the panoramic sunroof that is on offer. Experts call this a more rugged and off-road based class of offering. The standard elements include a rough terrain package and a four-wheel drive. The customers can choose between three engine options including two diesel versions and a petrol version. The prices will be between Rs. 18 and 20 lakhs. 5. Skoda Octavia RS 245 Launched In India Skoda says the delivery of Skoda RS 245 will start in April with the bookings accepted from March 1. The carmaker says it has plans to limit the number of cars during production to only 200 units. The ex-showroom price of the vehicle will be Rs. 36 lakhs. Octavia RS 245 is an able competitor to Audi A3, Mini Cooper, Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Volvo S60 and Mercedes-Benz CLA. The top speed assured is 250 kmph and the car can pick up 0-100 kmph within 6.6 seconds. The highly desirable feature is 7-speed DSG transmission.

Škoda planning a comeback in the Indian compact vehicle market with Tata Motors

New Delhi, Jul 15 () Japanese auto major Honda on Wednesday launched the new version of its mid-sized sedan City in India priced between Rs 10.9 lakh-Rs 14.65 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The fifth generation version of the popular model, which in its current form is longer and wider than the fourth generation City, comes with BS-VI compliant petrol and diesel powertrains. The 1.5-litre petrol versions with manual transmission are priced at Rs 10.9 lakh, Rs 12.26 lakh, and Rs 13.15 lakh, while the 1.5-litre diesel trims are tagged at Rs 12.40, Rs 13.76 lakh, and Rs 14.65 lakh. The 1.5-litre petrol automatic trims (CVT) on the other hand are priced at Rs 12.20 lakh, Rs 13.56 lakh and, Rs 14.45 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi). The model, which will compete with the likes of Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Skoda Rapid, now features smart devices ecosystem including Alexa remote capability and 32 connected features as standard feature across all variants with a five-year free subscription. The company said it will also continue to sell the BS-VI compliant fourth generation City along with the new version. "City is synonymous with Honda brand in India. It is the most important model for us," Honda Motor India Ltd (HCIL) President and CEO Gaku Nakanishi told . Being a pillar of the company's business in India for the last 22 years, the company expects the new City to bring in more volumes as compared to the last versions, he added. The company has sold 40 lakh City units cumulatively across the globe till date with around 8 lakh units in India. Each generation of the City has raised the bar on design, technology, quality, driving pleasure, comfort and safety, and has come with several industry firsts or segment first features, Nakanishi said. "Our vision has been to offer our customers with a new value that is unprecedented in the history of City and we are confident that the All New City will create fresh excitement in the mid-size sedan segment," he added. Besides domestic market the company is also looking to enhance exports of the City to new markets, including left-hand car regions. "Regarding City, we are looking at expanding the export volume. We are looking to more than doubling the overseas shipments," Nakanishi said. In 2019-20, the company exported around 3,800 units from India mainly to South Africa and some neighbouring countries. Elaborating further HCIL Senior Vice President and Director Sales and Marketing Rajesh Goel said the exports will begin later this year and new destinations will be covered with the new City. "We can't disclose the export markets right now as all have their own launch plans. What we can tell that is that we are also going to start the export of left-hand cars," he noted. Commenting on the domestic market, Goel said: "We know SUV segment is growing here but with Civic we saw that it revitalised the segment in which it is offered, sales jumped. So, we are hoping that with City we will achieve similar results in the mid sized sedan segment". When asked about the logic of continuing the sales of fourth generation City with with the new version, Goel said the earlier version is also BS-VI compliant and has contemporary design language. "We want to give broader choice to customers," he noted. The BS-VI petrol trims of the fourth generation City are priced between Rs 9.91 lakh-Rs 14.31 lakh. Goel said the new City could be produced at both its Greater Noida and Tapukara (Rajasthan) plants and is currently being rolled-out of the former. "Later, we can also roll it out from the Tapukara facility," he said. The new City has been developed at Honda R&amp;D Centre located in Tochigi, Japan, following extensive market surveys in India, ASEAN countries and other markets for peoples driving needs and lifestyles. The company said the sedan now comes with ASEAN N-CAP 5 Star equivalent safety rating and many first in class segment features like full LED headlamps, 17.7 cm HD full color TFT meter with G-meter, lane watch camera, vehicle stability assist (VSA) with agile handling assist (AHA) among others. The petrol variants of the new City will come with 1.5-litre powertrain mated with six speed manual and seven speed continuously variable transmission (CVT). The manual trims will return fuel efficiency of 17.8 km/litre while the CVT trims will deliver 18.4 km/litre, the company claimed. The diesel trims, which will come with 1.5-litre engine mated to a six speed manual transmission, will deliver fuel efficiency of 24.1 km/litre, it added. Honda said the vehicle will come with 20.3 cm touchscreen display audio system with smartphone connectivity, sunroof, six airbags, multi-angle rear camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, among others. HCIL said it will start deliveries of the petrol variants of the model immediately across the country while the deliveries for the diesel variants would begin from next month. The car offers low cost maintenance with service interval of one year or 10,000 km whichever is earlier, it added. <ul><li><keyword id="6374528" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="toyota">Toyota</keyword> will be launching <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword>’s <keyword id="6379565" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="baleno">Baleno</keyword> under their brand starting next financial year.</li><li>Cross-badging is a concept that, in the past, has only yielded temperate results for automobile companies. </li><li>That being said, Suzuki’s and Toyota’s respective competitive advantages are complementary to each other which may play in their favour.</li></ul>A partnership that was cemented earlier this year between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota is bringing their first project to fruition. A crowd favorite, the Baleno will be the first vehicle to be cross-badged between the two companies. In the first year, somewhere between 20,000 to 25,000 Maruti Suzuki Balenos will be shipped off to the Toyota Motor Corporation. The <a href="https://www.livemint.com/Auto/YAsSEGIGNJpjFrNaJzKzdO/Baleno-to-be-the-first-Maruti-Suzuki-car-to-be-sold-as-a-Toy.html">report by Mint</a> indicates that this will be an annual exchange. Once Toyota has the cars, they will be selling them through their own dealership network starting Q1 of FY 2018-19. Their respective competitive advantages are complimentary in nature but might not be enough to solve the dilemma of how successful cross-badging will be in India. What is cross-badging? To cross-badge a car essentially means launching the same car under a different brand with some minor alterations that are, more often than not, only superficial. Even with the Baleno, plans indicate that the car will undergo some interior and exterior changes that could include alterations to the head lights, tail lamps and the front grill of the car. But, here’s the thing, cross-badging isn’t a concept that India is familiar with and past projects have performed the usual humdrum way. And, the Baleno isn’t the end of the road for Toyota either. The company has plans of launching Suzuki’s Brezza under their brand as well while Suzuki will introduce the Corolla under their banner. Mutual benefits This partnership utilises the <keyword id="1700148" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Competitive-Advantage">competitive advantage</keyword> of each company in a complementary manner. It’s essentially <keyword id="1673374" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ricardo">Ricardo</keyword>’s trade theory playing out in real life where one entity trades its most efficient product against its counterpart’s most efficient product. David Ricardo developed the classical theory of comparative advantage in 1817 to explain why countries engage in international trade even when one country's workers are more efficient at producing every single good than workers in other countries. While Toyota has the hang of the executive sedan segment, they haven’t had much luck in the lower-end of the market. And the opposite is true for Maruti Suzuki. It’s not that Toyota hasn’t tried. The Etios was their attempt at cracking India’s most high-volume segment of <keyword id="6381299" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="automobiles">automobiles</keyword>, but alas, the car wasn’t able to make a substantial mark. And, this isn’t only true with India. Toyota may be on the track to become to world’s third largest automobile player with investments all over the globe but they’re yet to capitalise in the densest markets around the world. With the Baleno and the Brezza, Toyota will have another shot at making an impact in the competitive hatchback segment of automobiles in India. More than dominating the market on product alone, economics of scale will also come into play once Suzuki starts manufacturing the Baleno from Toyota’s plant in Karnataka by repurposing the currently unutilised capacity of the hub. And it’s not that Suzuki will get the short end of stick. More than using the Corolla to further expand their market share in the executive sedan segment, Toyota’s pool of knowledge, when it comes to electrical vehicles (EVs), holds greater utility for the company. In the past, a similar partnership between Volkswagen and Suzuki didn’t yield any results. Partnerships have were also pursued between Volkswagen and Tata as well as Mahindra and Ford without substantial outcomes. On the other hand, the Renault and Nissan alliance brought about the Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano SUVs. Even the partnership between Volkswagen and Skoda yielded the Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Rapid. All these cars did decently well in this country. The Suzuki and Toyota partnership can thus work either way, we’ll have to wait and watch.

Baleno will now be a Toyota vehicle

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Volkswagen-is-confronting-a-horrible-reality-at-home/articleshow/51434543.cms">Volkswagen</a> India gears up to increase the output of the Pune plant by 15 per cent this year. It will add a third shift as it readies itself to cater to enhanced demand from export as well as domestic markets.
 

	In preparation for the increased output from the plant, which can roll out maximum of 1.3 lakh cars annually in a two-shift system, the company has hired around 800 new employees.
 "In 2016, we are expecting growth in our domestic as well as export volumes. With the new Ameo, a car that has been specially developed for India, we are expecting a higher demand from the domestic Indian market while we look at supplying more cars to our export markets too," <keyword id="6361865" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Volkswagen">Volkswagen</keyword> India President and M Andreas Lauermann said in a statement. 

	In all, the company expects to increase production by around 15 per cent this year as compared to the last one, he added.
 

	Last year <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/More-trouble-for-Volkswagen/articleshow/51316177.cms">the company </a>produced year 1,23,456 cars from the plant, which started production in March 2009.
 

	Commenting on enhancing manpower, Lauermann said: "We have been hiring workforce across levels with varying skill sets. Our production processes demand skilled workers and we have been carefully appointing the right people for the right jobs."
 At present, Volkswagen India produces models like Polo, Vento and <keyword id="6361542" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Skoda">Skoda</keyword> Rapid at the plant in Chakan, Pune. Besides, it also assembles the 1.5-litre TDI engine at this plant.

Will car buyers like it? Only time will tell.
