On Friday, the prime suspect in the sexual assault case of a school girl at a fake National Cadet Corps (NCC) camp in <keyword id="22831957" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bargur" source="keywords">Bargur</keyword> died in a suicide, the police told the Press Trust of India. <br /><br /><keyword id="21305944" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sivaraman" source="keywords">Sivaraman</keyword> had consumed rat poison shortly before his arrest on August 19, and was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Krishnagiri where he was already undergoing treatment for a leg fracture incurred while evading arrest. His condition deteriorated, leading to his transfer to the Government Medical College Hospital in Salem, where he passed away.<br /><br />Sivaraman was one of 11 individuals, including school officials, arrested by the Bargur All Women police. He had reportedly orchestrated the <keyword id="22850043" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="fake-NCC-camp" source="keywords">fake NCC camp</keyword> where the assault on an eighth-grade girl occurred, along with allegations of abuse involving several other girls. The camp, attended by 41 students (including 17 girls) was exposed when the victim reported the abuse to her parents, who subsequently filed a police complaint.<br /><br /><h2>Fake NCC Camp in Tamil Nadu</h2>The NCC has stated that it was not responsible for coordinating any camp in the area and that the individual involved in the incident has no connection with the organisation. The district administration has reportedly confirmed the same.<br /><br />Of the 41 students that took part in the fake NCC camp, one student was sexually assaulted while several girls were harassed by the perpetrators. Two teachers, the principal, and a correspondent of the private school where the incident took place are among those arrested. <br /><br />As per reports, the school failed to perform background checks or assign teachers to oversee the fake camp. It is also alleged that the school consented to the camp in an effort to establish its own NCC unit on campus, based on the assurances of an undisclosed group. Additionally, the school authorities have been accused of trying to conceal the incident by advising students to stay quiet about the alleged abuse.<br /><br />In response, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister <keyword id="19934579" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mk-stalin" source="keywords">MK Stalin</keyword> has instructed the formation of a Special Investigation Team to investigate the case. The SIT aims to complete the probe within 15 days, with a chargesheet filed in 60 days. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also taken cognisance, demanding a report from the Tamil Nadu government and police.<br /><br />

<ul><li>The <keyword id="6357505" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kerala-high-court">Kerala High Court</keyword> today broke a barrier as it ruled that a <keyword id="3881175" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="transgender-person">transgender person</keyword> can join the <keyword id="6363208" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="national-cadet-corps">National Cadet Corps</keyword>.</li><li><keyword id="10363494" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hina-Haneefa">Hina Haneefa</keyword>, a 22-year old transwoman, had moved the Kerala High Court for her right to be a part of the <keyword id="50583" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NCC">NCC</keyword>.</li><li>The court said that the enrolment criteria under Section 6 of the National Cadet Corps Act, 1948 which excludes admission of transgender persons to Corps should be amended.</li></ul>Hina Haneefa, a transgender who identifies herself as a woman, must be happy today. <br /><br />The Kerala High Court today broke a barrier as it ruled that a transgender person can join the National Cadet Corps, going beyong the previous rule of being either a male or female person to join the youth wing of the Armed Forces. <br /><br />Legal news platform <a href="https://www.barandbench.com/news/litigation/kerala-high-court-allows-admission-of-transgender-person-to-national-cadet-corps">Bar &amp; Bench </a>reported that the state’s top court said that the enrolment criteria under Section 6 of the National Cadet Corps Act, 1948 which excludes admission of transgender persons to Corps should be amended.<br /><br />“Transgender person has a right to be recognised not only as a transgender but also a right to self-perceived self-identity,” said Justice Anu Sivaraman who pronounced the order.<br /><br />Haneefa, the 22-year old transwoman had moved the Kerala High Court for her right to be a part of the NCC. Haneefa had joined the NCC when she was 13, as a ‘boy’ the gender assigned to her at birth. Transgender person can join the National Cadet Corps, rules Kerala High Court

Kochi, May 14 () A 45-year-old woman, a nurseworking in Saudi Arabia, has secured interim custody of herminor son after the Kerala High Court allowed her pleachallenging a Family Court order declining it on the groundthat she had not undergone COVID-19 test.<p>The family court order cited the contentions made bythe five-year-old child's father that she had not undergonemedical check up and violated the rules of quarantine afterher return from the Gulf nation in March.   A Division Bench of the High Court, comprising JusticesAnu Sivaraman and M R Anitha, on Tuesday allowed her plea andordered granting her 15-day interim custody of her child,admitting the contention filed by her counsel that the womanunderwent COVID-19 test on May 8 and the result was negative.</p><p>   "The fact that the petitioner is working abroadis not in dispute.It is also not seen to be disputed that shewill have to go back when the lockdown is lifted.</p><p> The thirst of a mother to see the child after a longwhile is also quite imaginable.</p><p> Taking into account the peculiar facts andcircumstances, we are of the considered view that interimcustody of the minor child shall be given to the petitionermother for a period of 15 days," the court said in its order.</p><p>  Earlier, the family court had granted the custodyof the minor child to the father with visitation rights to themother as and when she visited Kerala.</p><p>  When she came down to Kerala on March 7, 2020,she filed a petition seeking interim custody of the child butconsidering the situation prevailing then in Kerala, thefamily court was not inclined to grant her the custody.</p><p>    The family court had dismissed the petitionin view of the objection raised by the child's father that thewoman had come from Saudi Arabia,not undergone medical checkup and had violated the rules of quarantine.</p><p> It was also contended that handing over custody poseda danger to the boy's life at a time when COVID-19 cases werebeing reported in Idukki.</p><p>  Challenging the lower court order, the womansubmitted as and when the lockdown was over, she will have toreturn to her work place and join duty and she will be deniedan opportunity to spend time with her son.</p>   She also produced the certificate issued fromthe district hospital, Thodupuzha, stating that it wouldcertify that the COVID-19 test done on May 8 was negative.COR TGB BNWELCOME    BNWELCOME
