It’s not one or two, but half a dozen! That’s the number of startups, <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword> based IT <keyword id="6556311" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Major">major</keyword>, <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> is looking to <keyword id="47916" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="invest">invest</keyword> on. Keeping a budget of $250 million (Rs 1,580 crore), Infosys is evaluating the start up firms. 
 
As per a news report by The Economic Times, India's second-largest software exporter is also finalising an agreement to sign up for software products think-tank iSpirt's mergers and acquisitions program to connect with early-stage product companies, sources informed the ET. 
 At a time when <keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword> and Amabnis are looking up to the startup ventures, increase in non -traditional technology solutions to solve new-age business problems are making IT companies look for an option for a viable collaboration 
 The ET news report reads, Infosys is keen on investing on startups that have a profile similar to that of enterprise software maker <keyword id="2211555" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="SirionLabs">SirionLabs</keyword>, a technology developing firm. Analytics and artificial intelligence are the key focus areas for Infosys. 
 
 
"The discussions are still at a very early stage," the sources informed the financial daily. "Most of the startups that companies like Infosys are looking to tap are incorporated in India, with their founders based out of the Silicon Valley." 
 <keyword id="2825391" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yusuf-Bashir">Yusuf Bashir</keyword>, newly-appointed <keyword id="6411847" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="head">head</keyword> of Infosys's $500-million startup fund, visited Bengaluru in April to meet members of iSpirt's M&amp;A team and evaluate how to best tap into India's software product ecosystem. iSpirt executives also met Kaustav Mitra, vice-president, innovation ecosystems at Infosys. Like Bashir, Mitra too was a former colleague of Infosys <keyword id="24211" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="chief-executive">chief executive</keyword> <keyword id="6369763" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vishal-Sikka">Vishal Sikka</keyword> at <keyword id="6358384" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SAP">SAP</keyword>. 
 iSpirt's M&amp;A connect program has a curated list of nearly 100 early-stage software companies under a business exchange program that typically connects large enterprises such as <keyword id="10875" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IBM">IBM</keyword> and SAP with early-stage startups that are building disruptive software solutions. Companies like IBM, SAP, <keyword id="28115" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Intel">Intel</keyword>, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Flipkart and <keyword id="155484" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Salesforce">Salesforce</keyword> are members. 
 
According to the ET, Infosys expanded the size and scope of its startup fund by five times to $500 million in January. Later, Sikka pledged to invest $250 million in Indian startups in the first such commitment by a cash-rich software services company.

Layoff totals for some companies were not available. By contrast, in January 2022, only about 180 startup employees faced layoffs. That's about a 1,700% jump in job eliminations year-over-year — a stark illustration of how the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/great-hesitation-amazon-meta-alphabet-preparing-for-recession-2022-10">economic outlook in tech</a> has shifted over the course of the past 12 months.Many of these companies raised large sums of venture capital funding before the market pullback. So far 27 startups — ranging from diverse segments such as online pharmacy, social commerce, infrastructure-led marketplace, and more — have been valued over a billion dollars this year and entered the unicorn club. However, only one of them is actually led by women. OfBusiness, which offers raw material procurement service and credit to small and medium businesses (SMBs), was founded by Ruchi Kalra, Vasant Sridhar, Bhuvan Gupta and Nitin Jain over six years ago. She noted that there are several reasons why women got a delayed start in the Indian startup scene. More female-led companies to enter unicorn club in next four years The year 2021 has been a record breaking year for Indian startups so far — with the new age companies hitting the public market, cracking the biggest funding deals and more companies being valued at over a billion dollars. According to a business intelligence firm Tracxn, Indian startups have raised $23 billion in 2021 till September 1. This is significantly higher than $13 billion raised by the ecosystem in 2020. The massive interest of the investors has increased India’s unicorn tally to 56. The new estimates show that 150 startups will be valued at over a billion dollars in the next four years, by 2025. There’s a lot of competition and companies are selective about who they hire. But one thing that can give you an edge over other candidates is the right set of skills — SaaS-y skills. India’s software-as-a-service (SaaS) market is still young, but that’s where the real money is, if you’re an engineer. The demand is overflowing, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic’s ‘digital transformation’ wave. “COVID-related trail winds have led to a massive leverage using technology and that in turn leading firms to look at incrementing their teams with high quality engineers,” Siddharth Sangwan, the director and head of talent strategy at venture capital company Lightspeed Venture Partners, told Business Insider. Recruitment firm TeamLease told Business Insider that <keyword id="11126922" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="salaries-in-saas">salaries in SaaS</keyword> firms are at least 30% higher than traditional IT services, if not more. “The potential for growth is better as a SaaS firm because product development on this platform is more robust and exposure to technology is higher. Whereas in traditional IT service companies, they tend to stick to one project for longer durations,” explained Siva Prasad Nanduri, the vice president and business head of IT Staffing at TeamLease Digital. Having at least two years of experience is all you need to capitalise on your skillset. It doesn’t matter which sector you were in, or what brand you were working on, your knowledge is what companies are looking for when hiring. “If you get a reasonable 2-3 years of experience, salaries have virtually doubled in the last one year. The demand is coming from traditional companies, from startups, from IT, and from global companies,” said Haresh Chawla, a partner at True North, during a Business Insider Twitter Live. <div type="javascript" title="Custom" contenttype="Video"><cdata><![CDATA[]]></cdata></div> Sirion Labs, a contract life-cycle management company that has clients like Vodafone, Unilever, Credit Suisse, and EY, agrees that experience is key. Just having the right set of skills is not enough. They’re even giving out pay hikes to junior employees to keep them around for longer. But startups and small businesses are willing to offer more money. “I know for a fact that startups are paying more. They’re more discerning in terms of the kind of people they have. Their interviewing style is very different from an IT services company or even some of the MNCs that are out there,” said Lathika Pai, country head of venture capital (VC) and private equity (PE) partnerships at Microsoft. According to her, the keyword is ‘passion’. Startups are looking for young employees who aren’t working for money, but from the heart — people who want to shoot for the stars, not just the Moon. "More than the skills, it’s the mindset that differentiates engineers who ship great products. The ability to solve a problem for a customer and then do it at scale is what excites most SaaS engineers," Praval Singh, the vice president of marketing at Zoho Corp, told Business Insider. He estimates that there over 1000 SaaS companies in India. More than 150 have annual recurring revenue of more than $1 million. And, these companies are a hotbed for engineering talent. They have a healthy customer retention rate, which means they willing to shell out the big bucks because they know they will see higher revenue per employee as the business grows. “As far as salaries go, there is a higher percentile of companies in the SaaS space who offer more salaries, but that is linked to the skills and competencies required based on the type of work or role the employee is expected to play,” said Atlassian, one of the biggest software companies in the world. It is currently planning to recruit 300 research and development engineers in India over the next year. Every other company wants to build a mobile app so that they can reach customers on their smartphones. Cloud is the new mantra, and cybersecurity concerns are on the rise. And firms are on the hunt to secure the right talent, which also means paying out big bucks to keep others from poaching talent away. Majority of the startups that will shape the tomorrow of business are B2B. Nearly 50% of the companies in the latest list of startups under <keyword id="3783907" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="nasscom-emerge">Nasscom Emerge</keyword> 50, which is a yearly exercise to identify and showcase 50 most innovative, emerging IT product startups, are in B2B business. 
 
These startups are already serving global clients, further approving the development of enterprise clients centered startups in the nation. 
 
Last year, less than one third of the shortlisted startups were in B2B space. This year, however, nearly half of the shortlisted startups were in the B2B business. In addition to it, some B2B players like EdGE Networks and SirionLabs made it to the top 10 'League of Ten' list. 
 "Not many Indian companies are out there in the global B2B space. We want to build our company and sell in the global markcompeting with the likes of <keyword id="10875" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IBM">IBM</keyword>, Oracle, SAP, etc," <keyword id="139794" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ajay-Agrawal">Ajay Agrawal</keyword>, CEO of SirionLabs, a Gurgaon-based enterprise software maker told ET. 
 
Industry specialists have been proclaiming the development of the B2B space comparable to B2C for quite a while now. 
 "B2B startups focused on the global market are doing well. India is emerging as a hub for SaaS startups that cater to the mid-and-small customer segment in the US," <keyword id="207306" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sharad-Sharma">Sharad Sharma</keyword>, founder of software think tank iSPIRT told ET. 
 
This year, nearly the list was shortlisted from more than 450 nominations and an increment in startup activity in tier-II and three tier-III cities was also observed. 
 <keyword id="323024" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sangeeta-Gupta">Sangeeta Gupta</keyword>, senior vice president at <keyword id="6372077" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nasscom">Nasscom</keyword> highlighted several other trends seen among the chosen startups. 
 
"We saw a much more nichefocused startups than startups that were doing similar things. Another differentiator this year was the focus on core technologies such as AI (artificial intelligence), cloud (cloud computing) and IoT (internet of things)," she told ET.
