The first ODI will be played on July 27 at the Kensington Oval, Barbados while the second will be played at the same venue on July 29. The third and final game of the series will be played on August 1 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad. After the ODI series, the two teams will lock horns for a five-match T20I series. The first match of that series will be played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad, on August 3. The second T20I will be played at the Guyana National Stadium, Guyana on August 6 while the will be hosted at the same stadium on August 8. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, other Indian players meet West Indies legend Sir Garfield Sobers

<keyword id="6359948" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ravindra-Jadeja">Ravindra Jadeja</keyword>, the noted Indian cricketer, has filed a defamation suit against the editor of an evening newspaper based in Rajkot. 
 
The case has been lodged because of a story printed by the eveninger, stating that Jadeja and his business partner Jenesih Ajmera had alleged links with a certain Bali Dangar, who is accused in cases of land grabbing and extortion. Hiren Bhatt, Jadeja's lawyer, has said that the newspaper printed a false story without any verification, which damaged the image of his client. Apparently, Jadeja has no links with Dangar and is not even associated with Ajmera in any business. 
 However, what caught our eye were the damages that <keyword id="2696777" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sir-Jadeja">Sir Jadeja</keyword> is seeking in the case. He is asking for Rs 51 crores; as is known, numbers that end in 1 are considered to be auspicious in Indian culture and 51, in itself is considered a Shagun. 
 Coming back to the case, Principal senior civil judge P B Parmar has issued summons to Satish Mehta, who is the editor and owner of '<keyword id="2696778" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aabtak">Aabtak</keyword>', the eveninger in question. He is asked to be present in the court on 4th February.

"Chandu sir [Chandrakant Pandit, KKR coach] asked for a heavy roller, which I did not want. I felt the heavy roller might break the pitch, but it settled the pitch completely. The ball did not turn in the second innings. Credit to our spinners for how well they bowled. I always felt that if I or Rinku could hold one end up, we will chase this down. That is what happened," said Nitish in a post-match presentation. Notably, Nitish is having a great IPL 2023 as a batter. In 13 matches, he has scored 405 runs at an average of 33.75 and a strike rate of 143.10. He has three half-centuries this season, with the best score of 75. Ball did not turn in second innings, says KKR skipper Nitish Rana after win over CSK

New Delhi, The only way out for the <keyword id="12697" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-cricketers">Indian cricketers</keyword> to overcome the crushing defeat to Australia in the <keyword id="77902" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="first-Test">first Test</keyword> is to "fight it out" and do "something magnificent" in the remaining three matches that would change negative thinking, <keyword id="1795608" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cricket-icon-Sachin-Tendulkar">cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar</keyword> said. Failure of top-order batsmen was largely responsible for India's eight-wicket mauling in Adelaide, but Tendulkar, 47, doesn't feel that it was due to pressure on the players. The batting maestro, who aggregated 34,357 runs and 100 centuries in international cricket, says it were technical flaws that impacted the top-order batsmen. He, particularly, noticed one big shortcoming in most frontline batsmen -- absence of a solid forward defence, a technical flaw that became more pronounced by the lack of a big stride forward. Also, Tendulkar points out that it would have been better if India would have started the tour with the T20I series, then played the ODIs, and finally the Test series -- with the last match being with the pink ball. Part 1 of the exclusive interview: Q: Did you have any apprehension that the Australians would have the upper hand in the first Test as it was a day-night Test with a pink ball at which the Indians have limited experience? A: The first Test itself was a bit of apprehension because I felt that the last Test we had played before the Adelaide Test was in February and after that no cricket was played (due to Covid-19 pandemic). Everyone was preparing for <keyword id="1219822" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Indian-Premier-League">the Indian Premier League</keyword>, which was a T20 format. According to me the ideal transition would have been that after the IPL you go to Australia and start with the T20 series, ODIs, and then the Test series with the red ball (regular Test match timings), and the last match being with the pink ball (adapting to pink ball Test match timings) that one is not so used to. By playing red ball Test matches first, the transition would have been a smoother to pink ball Test, according to me. Q: And what your apprehension was, or what you feared, has come true? A: Feared in the sense that, to be fair, in the first innings we had the upper hand and started off really well. There was no apprehension as such; just that when I looked at the itinerary, what I said earlier was a better option, I felt. We played good cricket in the first innings, but in the second, that hour was a difficult one and that's when things changed. Also, when Tim Paine came and scored those crucial runs. Had our first-innings been closer to 90 or 100 or so, it would have changed the thinking, and also the timing was crucial. That played a big part in this Test. Q: Were you expecting this result, particularly in the manner in which the Indian batting line-up capitulated in the second innings? A: No, I wasn't expecting it because I thought in the first innings we batted well and showed a lot of resilience. In the second innings, there was not much playing and missing by our batsmen. The ball wasn't moving around too much; just a little bit. Normally, when batters score runs we don't look at other elements, like the number of times he was beaten etc. But here we talk about a number of aspects when the batter has edged the ball. Off similar deliveries when you got beaten and when you are scoring runs and nobody talks about those. One change that one can talk about was getting a nice, big stride forward, which I felt was missing. In foreign conditions, I feel a good stride forward against fast bowlers becomes important. A half and half defence (short stride) can always trouble you and if there's a little more movement off the seam then your hands tend to compensate for the lack of footwork. What I also simultaneously noticed was that the Australians bowled very much on off stump -- much, much tighter -- and not outside the off stump whereas they bowled outside the off stump in the first innings. Q: What were the shortcomings for the undoing of Indian batsmen -- was it their inability to tackle the moving ball, or just the enormity of the situation, having made just 244 runs in the first innings? A: We surely had an upper having made just 244 in the first innings and having gotten them out below 200 (191) in the first innings. And we lost Prithvi Shaw early and then I still remember Jasprit Bumrah played that evening -- and how the team responded to that. Overall, the feeling was good in the dressing room. The next morning that only element that I felt could have been better was a little more precision in footwork, more so while playing on the front foot -- getting a nice, full stride forward, which I spoke about earlier here. If you get a nice stride forward while defending then your hands stay close to your body. When your stride is not nicely stretched forward then your hands tend to go away from the body, towards the ball. I would say that getting a good stride forward can help a lot of players. Q: And the enormity of the situation...? A: I don't think so because when Mayank (Agarwal) and Bumrah were batting we were almost 60 runs ahead of Australia with one wicket down. So, even if we had scored 225 runs, plus 53 runs (of innings lead), you would have looked at a 275-280 run target, which would have been a match-winning target. The match was tilted in our favour (at 60 for 1), I would say, when the third morning started. Of course, the first session was going to be critical because invariably teams plan overnight and come up with fresh plans sometimes. And in the first session, they fire on all cylinders and make things happen. So, if you are able to defuse that fire in the first session, then the aggression is not as much. Yes, they will keep coming at you, but you are able to keep things under control. That's why the first session was going to be critical. Q: After the defeat, Virat Kohli admitted that the capitulation was due to a "lack of intent". Was it also due to Indian batsmen's lack of correct technique or inability to soak in the pressure? A: They have dealt with pressure situations. Barring Prithvi, and possibly Mayank, all the players have played enough. Virat, Ajinkya (Rahane), Cheteshwar (Pujara) and (Wriddhiman) Saha have been around while Hanuma Vihari, compared to these guys, has played less. So, players have the ability to soak that pressure and they did their best. But sometimes you also need luck to be on your side. And as I said there were not a number of occasions when the batters were getting beaten and continuing to bat without losing wickets. That did not happen. The edges were going straight to fielders and they were carrying. In the first innings, there were a number of edges but the ball didn't carry to fielders. I remember, at least three times the ball didn't carry. In the second innings, the wicket had become harder, and there was more pace and bounce in the surface. There wasn't exaggerated off-the-seam movement. So, when you ask about a lack of correct technique, I'd say if you take a big stride forward you obviously cut down the distance (between bat and ball) and don't allow the ball to do much - and it helps you keep your hands close to your body and that is the best way to defend on front foot. Q: There is no all-rounder except Ravindra Jadeja, who was also missing in Adelaide. Do you feel India desperately missed an all-rounder? A: Also, Ravichandran Ashwin can really bat well. He is capable of getting a good partnership, handy and important runs. When we talk about Ashwin and Jadeja, it boils down to whose bowling on a particular pitch would be more useful and then you pick that bowler. Their batting is an added bonus; both can bat. I'm sure the team management must be looking at their bowling ability and picking and not worrying too much about how many runs they would contribute at No.8. Yes, those runs would be important, but they are primarily picked because of their bowling. Q: India's fielding also left a lot to be desired, as players dropped several catches in the second innings, including the crucial one of Tim Paine in the first innings. A: While growing, I remember, (Ramakant) Achrekar sir had told all of us: catches win matches. It has stayed with all of us. So don't drop catches. Fielding has to be upped without any doubt. Q: Our bowlers performed well in Adelaide. Your impressions on their performance. A: I thought their performance was very good, without any doubt. In the first innings, it was extremely disciplined and focused; and they kept the pressure on. The Australians also, on the other hand, were over defensive in their first innings. But there are occasions when batters should do something different to put the pressure back on the (opposition) bowlers. So, when there's an opportunity to score runs one should score runs; you can't let the bowler get away with an average delivery. Otherwise, you become a punching bag. A good delivery needs to be respected. Crediting his rampaging run to captaincy, Indian swashbuckler Virat Kohli says the added responsibility has left no room for complacency in his batting and that has helped him achieve the record-breaking feat of four double hundreds in as many Test series, according to the PTI. 
 
Kohli, who smashed 204 on the second day of the ongoing one-off Test against Bangladesh in Hyderabad, said captaincy has helped him go for longer innings in Test matches. 
 
"I don't know, I think it is because of captaincy that you tend to go on more than what you usually would as a normal batsman. I think the room for complacency is no more present when you become captain. So, that has something to do with me playing long innings," the 28-year-old right-handed batsman said. 
 
"I have always wanted to play long innings and my first seven or eight hundreds were not even 120 plus scores. After that I made a conscious effort to bat long and control my excitement or not be complacent at any stage," he was quoted as saying by 'bcci.tv', when asked about his hunger for big scores. 
 
En route his 204, Kohli became the first batsman in the history of Test cricket to claim four double hundreds in as many series. In the process, he surpassed the legendary Sir Don Bradman and Rahul Dravid, both of whom had three double hundreds in successive series. 
 
Kohli's four double hundreds have come against West Indies (200), New Zealand (211), England (235) and now Bangladesh. 
 
The Indian captain said that he's is no longer satisfied with Test hundreds and his fitness level allows him to play for longer innings and eye bigger scores. 
 
"I worked on my fitness level over the years and I feel I can go for longer periods now. I don't get tired as much as I used to before. Definitely, I don't get satisfied when I get a Test hundred which used to be before, because I used to give too much importance to Test cricket separately. Now I have started to treat it as any game of cricket and I have to keep going on till the time the team needs to," said the Delhi batsman. 
 
Asked how he has been able to maintain consistency across the three formats, he said, "It is not easy to do especially with the amount of cricket we play nowadays. It is more of a mental thing. I don't necessarily focus too much on practice because sometimes you might not get to practice so much. 
 
"I think mentally you need to focus and think about what you are going to do in the game. Switching to different formats is the need of the hour in these days' cricket. I certainly want to contribute in all three formats. That has always been the mindset and I have to prepare in a certain way. It is more mental than going into the nets." 
 
He, however, admitted that the Hyderabad pitch was not as testing as other wickets on which he had scored his double centuries earlier. 
 
"The wicket was very good to bat on, to be honest. It was not as testing wicket as other wickets that I scored double centuries on. I think the focus was only to follow my intent but at the same time be careful in terms of choosing my shots. Luckily I struck a right balance in this particular innings and it feels good to have a big score," Kohli said. 
 
Kohli could have been out on 180 when Bangladesh off-spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz got a leg before decision from on-field umpire but on his batting partner Wriddhiman Saha's insistence he went for a DRS request and the decision was overturned and he was able to get to his double hundred. 
 
Asked why he did not think of using DRS initially, Kohli said, "I thought if the ball had spun right from under my eyes when I was batting on 180-odd it has to spin a lot for me to miss it because I have been connecting well. It was not a lapse in concentration, the ball really spun sharply from in front of my pads. So the thinking was that. Plus we had two reviews and if I got out I was going to be the fifth batsman who got out and the others could use one review still." 
 
But Kohli said he was sure he was out leg before and so he did not use the DRS second time when he walked off the field on 204. 
 
"The other one, I thought I got plumb in front. I was falling back when I got hit on the pad as well and that is why the umpire could not give not out either because I was not standing there, I was falling behind. If you see the real time replay, you looked plumb but the umpires don't have the replays, neither do the players. 
 
"I also felt I was right in front of the stumps. I don't want to use a review because I felt I was plumb in front. Moreover, (Wriddhiman) Saha or (Ravindra) Jadeja might be nearing a milestone (later after him) and they could be using a DRS for themselves as well. So the second one to me I felt I was plumb in front and that was why I started walking briskly as well and no grudges with the umpire either because it happened way too quickly for them to understand where the ball impacted the pad."
