 Compared to debut day, earnings dropped 55% on the first Monday but the medium-budget (it cost around Rs 40 crore) movie managed to nett Rs 8.10 crore at home. Tuesday collections also dipped (Rs 6.80 crore) but the movie amassed a total of Rs 65.60 crore from <keyword id="54324" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="india-business">India business</keyword> after Day 5, crossing <keyword id="1718975" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Humshakals">Humshakals</keyword>’ earnings (Rs 61.05 crore). Ek Villain has now become the fifth <keyword id="2385280" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="highest-grosser">highest grosser</keyword> of 2014, surpassing the lifetime collections of <keyword id="6377522" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="queen">Queen</keyword> (Rs 61 crore), Main Tera Hero (Rs 55 crore), Heropanti (Rs 53.40 crore) and Ragini MMS 2 (Rs 47 crore).  Coming back to the movie itself, we must say that the ‘chill and thrill’ factor could have been more intense, especially when you have a <keyword id="1261139" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="psychopathic-killer">psychopathic killer</keyword> running loose, while the romantic part of the plot (gangster falling for the good girl) has been done to death by now and meanders a lot. In Ek Villain, all the key characters seem helplessly trapped in their own prisons and cannot get away. <keyword id="6410325" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="guru">Guru</keyword> (Sidharth Malhotra), a former hitman, only undergoes a temporary change when <keyword id="2396273" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aisha-Verma">Aisha Verma</keyword> (Shraddha Kapoor) walks into his life. But he goes back to his original vengeful self when Aisha dies, not of terminal illness but murdered by a serial killer. However, it is Riteish Deshmukh (<keyword id="2396274" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rakesh-Mahadkar">Rakesh Mahadkar</keyword>) who walks away with the honours. He is the perfect psychopath – an oppressed individual, a henpecked husband, a desperate lover and a ruthless killer all rolled in one. 
 Overall, the concoction of drama and <keyword id="1278055" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="melodrama">melodrama</keyword>, romance and terror has diluted the plot. But one still gets to see some fine performance and the flick is certainly a lot different from the routine Bollywood themes. And the best part of it all? Ek Villain has won hearts and set the cash register ringing.

Office: Ek Villain A Runaway Success, May Soon Enter Rs 100 Crore Club

After a week of great <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="box-office">box office</keyword> action, mainly due to the runaway success of Rajinikanth-starrer <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Box-Office-Kochadaiiyaan-Thrives-On-Rajini-Power-Heropanti-Soaring-High/articleshow/35710189.cms">Kochadaiiyaan</a>, <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> is back to a dismal crawl. Last Friday (May 30) saw the release of just two flicks – Hansal Mehta-directed <keyword id="502037" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Citylights">Citylights</keyword> and newbie film-maker <keyword id="1307809" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aman-Sachdeva">Aman Sachdeva</keyword>’s <keyword id="1444695" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kuku-Mathur-Ki-Jhand-Ho-Gayi">Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi</keyword> (well, this one is produced by <keyword id="6354597" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ekta-Kapoor">Ekta Kapoor</keyword>, <keyword id="154993" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Shobha-Kapoor">Shobha Kapoor</keyword> and Bejoy Nambiar). Although both are hatke movies in a way and the former has earned enough critical accolades, none could manage an impressive showing at the <keyword id="827271" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Domestic-Box-Office">domestic box office</keyword> and recorded only 5-10% occupancy on debut day. 
 
Citylights, however, did considerably well after collecting just Rs 70 lakh on the opening Friday. The movie hit 500 screens and went on to earn Rs 3.57 crore at home in the first three days, according to <keyword id="6356809" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="producer">producer</keyword> figure (trade figure puts it at Rs 3.18 crore). But the crucial first Monday collections dipped again to Rs 60 lakh (approx). However, keeping in mind it is a <keyword id="2289947" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Low-budget-movie">low-budget movie</keyword> and cost around Rs 7 crore including P&amp;A, Citylights may just avoid losses. 
 
On the other hand, <keyword id="2289921" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kuku-Mathur">Kuku Mathur</keyword> Ki Jhand Ho Gayi, a rom-com drama with a <keyword id="2289946" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="quirky-title">quirky title</keyword> and an unmistakable <keyword id="2289944" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Delhi-flavour">Delhi flavour</keyword>, has garnered a paltry Rs 1.60 crore over the first weekend, against an estimated budget of Rs 6 crore. In addition, it has landed into further trouble as a resident of <keyword id="6355556" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="bhopal">Bhopal</keyword> has reportedly filed a Public Interest Litigation (<keyword id="6355791" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="PIL">PIL</keyword>) against <keyword id="766823" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Balaji-Motion-Pictures">Balaji Motion Pictures</keyword>, claiming that the film’s title has hurt the sentiments of the Kayastha community. Kuku Mathur was released across 700 screens but going by its performance, it can be a clean washout at the box office. 
 
But what has gone wrong with Citylights? For one, the movie gives you a taste of unsavoury reality that is bound to jolt viewers. Inspired by the British film <keyword id="467511" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Metro-Manila">Metro Manila</keyword>, Citylights by <keyword id="303" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Director">director</keyword> <keyword id="4684" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hansal-Mehta">Hansal Mehta</keyword> (of Shahid fame) pieces together the gripping tale of an <keyword id="2289953" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uprooted-family">uprooted family</keyword> and their desperate struggle to survive in the ruthless city of Mumbai. The <keyword id="1097560" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="storyline">storyline</keyword> unveils a touching human document, superbly portrayed by the lead couple – <keyword id="1946388" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rajkummar-Rao">Rajkummar Rao</keyword> (<keyword id="6357110" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="deepak">Deepak</keyword>) and debutante <keyword id="2222926" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Patralekha">Patralekha</keyword>. Even the crime drama blends well with the colourful kaleidoscope – gentle, sombre, harsh and tragic at times. The ending is undoubtedly filmy, but the rest shines with a rare sensitivity that saves Citylights from being a cliché. 
 
 
 
In contrast, Kuku Mathur is a <keyword id="2289956" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Light-comedy">light comedy</keyword>, telling the story of two fast <keyword id="343" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Friends">friends</keyword> – Kuku Mathur (<keyword id="803840" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Siddharth-Gupta">Siddharth Gupta</keyword>) and <keyword id="2289924" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ronnie-Gulati">Ronnie Gulati</keyword> (<keyword id="2222736" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ashish-Juneja">Ashish Juneja</keyword>) – and their coming of age. This one is Sachdeva’s debut film and there are the usual hiccups in terms of plot and characters. But the lead duo and <keyword id="38050" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Amit-Sial">Amit Sial</keyword> (<keyword id="2289962" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Prabhakar-Bhaiya">Prabhakar Bhaiya</keyword>, the baddie uncle trying to influence Kuku) have put in some fantastic acting; the humour is quite <keyword id="678332" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Subtle">subtle</keyword> at times and the <keyword id="2289967" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Delhi-backdrop">Delhi backdrop</keyword> adds some endearing local colours. Kuku’s culinary aspirations bring in a fresh <keyword id="30450" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Touch">touch</keyword>, but a crisper storyline and engaging <keyword id="42057" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Screenplay">screenplay</keyword> could have improved the film vastly. Overall, an average movie with a few ‘wow’ moments and that partly explains the poor box office response. 
 But in case you are longing for another <keyword id="654103" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="smash">smash</keyword> hit like <keyword id="1849408" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kochadaiiyaan">Kochadaiiyaan</keyword> or even <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Box-Office-Kochadaiiyaan-Thrives-On-Rajini-Power-Heropanti-Soaring-High/articleshow/35710189.cms">Heropanti</a>, wait till you get to watch Akshay Kumar-starrer <keyword id="2113212" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Holiday-A-Soldier-Is-Never-Off-Duty">Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty</keyword>, to be released on June 6. It is a remake of the Tamil hit <keyword id="2289970" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tuppaki">Tuppaki</keyword> and also stars <keyword id="62210" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sonakshi-Sinha">Sonakshi Sinha</keyword>. Let us wait and see if ‘Akki’ can break the box office jinx.

Impressive But Tanks At Box Office; Kuku Mathur Doesn’t Take Off

A total of five movies hit the theatres on Friday the 21st but none could bang the <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="box-office">box office</keyword> like Sunny Leone-starrer <keyword id="1020628" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ragini-MMS-2">Ragini MMS 2</keyword>. The sequel to the hit <keyword id="30679" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="horror-flick">horror flick</keyword> <keyword id="500381" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ragini-MMS">Ragini MMS</keyword> netted Rs 24.5 crore at home during the debut weekend while 4th day (Monday, March 24) collections stood at around Rs 4.5 crore nett at the <keyword id="827271" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Domestic-Box-Office">domestic box office</keyword>, as per industry estimates. 
 “RaginiMMS2 Fri 8.43 cr, Sat 7.29 crore, Sun 8.78 crore. Total: Rs 24.5 crore nett. India biz,” trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted. In spite of a slight drop in business on the second day, this <keyword id="2165873" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Horror-erotica">horror erotica</keyword> picked up pace and turned out to be this year’s third highest grosser over the opening weekend, after <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Jai-Ho-Salman-FightsThrough-Clichs-Fails-To-Create-A-Dhoom/articleshow/29505187.cms">Jai Ho</a> (around Rs 60 crore) and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Box-Office-Gunday-LeavesYou-Clueless-But-Cash-Register-is-Ringing/articleshow/30626422.cms">Gunday</a> (Rs 43.9 crore). Along with Ragini MMS 2, four other movies were also released on March 21. These include <keyword id="1600822" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gang-of-Ghosts">Gang of Ghosts</keyword>, Ankhon Dekhi, <keyword id="6526" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Lakshmi">Lakshmi</keyword> and <keyword id="2165865" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kolkata-Junction">Kolkata Junction</keyword>. But keeping in mind how horror has flourished this week, we are focusing on just two movies today – Ragini MMS 2 and Gang of Ghosts. We will have another ‘Box Office’ story tomorrow and bring you the rest of the three movies, along with their box office performances. 
 Coming to performance, let us tell you that the <keyword id="1465525" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="horror-comedy">horror comedy</keyword> Gang of Ghosts did decently at the domestic box office and total collection after the first weekend was around Rs 14.25 crore, against a total budget of Rs 15 crore. That is not at all disheartening, taking into consideration the tough competition posed by the Ragini sequel, which is already way ahead of its total budget of Rs 18 crore. 
 
 
 Although <keyword id="1983057" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Adult-movie-star">adult movie star</keyword> <keyword id="836886" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sunny-Leone">Sunny Leone</keyword> made her Bollywood debut with <keyword id="25529" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="jism-2">Jism 2</keyword>, it is Ragini MMS 2 that has given her the biggest break in India till date. Interestingly, <keyword id="303" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Director">director</keyword> <keyword id="820957" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bhushan-Patel">Bhushan Patel</keyword> had earlier helmed another successful horror flick – 1920: Evil Returns. Ragini MMS 2 has been produced by <keyword id="6354597" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ekta-Kapoor">Ekta Kapoor</keyword> and <keyword id="154993" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shobha-Kapoor">Shobha Kapoor</keyword>. 
 
Now that we know the awesome numbers the movie is commanding, let us have a look at what’s selling Ragini MMS 2. Well, that’s a kind of no-brainer in this context. A <keyword id="2165868" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sizzling-Sunny-Leone">sizzling Sunny Leone</keyword> flaunting her assets throughout the movie and looking a bit more confident than usual (who wouldn’t when one is portraying her own character), and some <keyword id="2165869" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Spooky-elements">spooky elements</keyword> craftily thrown in here and there to keep the fear factor alive are tantalising enough to be lapped up by the audience. Add to that chartbuster songs like <keyword id="38162" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Baby-Doll">Baby Doll</keyword> and <keyword id="2019181" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chaar-Botal-Vodka">Chaar Botal Vodka</keyword>, and you have the perfect recipe for box office success. 
 
Unlike the prequel (Ragini MMS) that featured a balanced mix of <keyword id="2165871" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Horror-and-sex">horror and sex</keyword>, the equation has changed this time, along with the cast, and tilted heavily towards the explicit. However, the horrex picks up from where the earlier one had left, telling us the fatal story of a movie production team that has come to the infamous haunted haveli to make a movie on Uday and Ragini, whose earlier escapade in the house had gone awry. In fact, it won’t be a bad idea to watch Ragini MMS once again before you watch the second in the series. Now that the leaked MMS made by Uday has gone viral, film-maker Rocks (<keyword id="6532013" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Parvin-Dabas">Parvin Dabas</keyword>) decides to cash in on the scandal; ropes in Sunny as the female lead and lands at the house for the shoot. Here, Sunny seems to be at her explicit best but the bone-chilling moments are not missing altogether, in spite of their routine predictability. For instance, you will find the quintessential exorcist in <keyword id="2165872" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dr-Meera-Dutta">Dr Meera Dutta</keyword> (<keyword id="18941" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Divya-Dutta">Divya Dutta</keyword>), to say nothing of the usual trappings of a <keyword id="1571333" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="paranormal-thriller">paranormal thriller</keyword>. Maybe erotica and a heavy dose of <keyword id="2165874" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Quirky-humour">quirky humour</keyword> have been the saving grace of this movie, along with the terror lacing. 
 
The other horror release of the week is Gang of Ghosts, a photocopy adaptation of the original Bengali flick, <keyword id="494729" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bhooter-Bhobishyot">Bhooter Bhobishyot</keyword>. The original one has a touching message in the guise of comedy – one can actually sense the pain of getting uprooted as your city turns too affluent to be affordable. But the <keyword id="39358" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="hindi-remake">Hindi remake</keyword> falls flat in spite of veterans like <keyword id="6533" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Anupam-Kher">Anupam Kher</keyword> and <keyword id="297" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jackie-Shroff">Jackie Shroff</keyword>. As the erotic horror film, Ragini MMS 2, releases on Friday the 21st, let us take a look at some of the most spine-chilling horror movies Bollywood has churned out over the years. 1. Mahal (1949) 
Aayega aanewala... does the song give you goosebumps? That’s the magic of this song, crooned in the movie by the spirit of a woman who is waiting for her dead lover. The basic plot of the film goes like this – 10 strangers stranded on an island get killed one by one. The film has everything that’s synonymous with edge-of-the-seat experience – suspense, thrill, fear, perfect characterisation and of course, a haunting song, Gumnaam hai koi. 
 
4. Jaani Dushman (1979) 
The story of Jaani Dushman is based in a village, which is notorious for the mysterious killings of brides dressed in red. The bidaai song Chalo re doli uthao kahaar is an indication that another bride is going to be attacked by a mysterious monster. The creature can’t be killed as every time someone tries to kill it, it leaves its own body and possesses the body of the person who tries to kill it. The multi-starrer film was a box-office hit. 
 
5. 100 Days (1991)

From spine-chilling encounters to possessed souls and haunted house – every possible bloodcurdling element is packed here. Raat is, indeed, one of the best horror movies ever made in Bollywood. 
 
7. Vaastu Shastra (2004) 
A family including a couple and their son, as well as the wife’s sister, shifts to a new house. Just when they begin to live happily, the boy starts interacting with kids whom no one else can see. Initially, the parents dismiss it as child’s fancy but as things start to take a gory turn, they begin to take notice. But unfortunately, it’s too late by then. 
 
8. 1920 (2008) 
Haunted houses are hot favourites of those who love the horror genre and 1920 is a period film that portrays a haunted haveli (castle). A married couple comes to live in the haveli and experiences mysterious happenings, which are out of human control. If you believe in God and His power to save one from evil spirits, you will enjoy this film. 
 
9. 13 B Although this movie is marred by poor direction, the plot makes it a must-watch. The protagonist, R. <keyword id="4759" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Madhavan">Madhavan</keyword>, shifts to a new house 13-B but under a mysterious scheme of things, his life gets connected to a TV serial. Whatever happens in the TV serial, also happens with his family in real life. What’s more, that serial only comes on their TV. The film hooks you from the first frame till the last. 
 
10. Ragini MMS (2011) 
The movie has been partially inspired by the 2007 Hollywood horror flick, Paranormal Activity. It also takes cues from the real life incident of a Delhi-based girl called Deepika. She reportedly fell prey to a spirit’s wrath at a haunted house where her boyfriend took her and tried to make an MMS without her knowledge. The film was produced by <keyword id="378" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Jeetendra">Jeetendra</keyword> and <keyword id="154993" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Shobha-Kapoor">Shobha Kapoor</keyword> of Balaji Telefilms.

Horror Flicks From Bollywood That You Must Not Miss

March is still far away but the mercury is already rising with the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbzgyYEGOkA">official trailer</a> of <keyword id="1020628" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ragini-MMS-2">Ragini MMS 2</keyword> doing the rounds on the Internet and even on adult sites. This upcoming horror-thriller (to be released on March 21), the sequel to the 2011 <keyword id="30679" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="horror-flick">horror flick</keyword> <keyword id="500381" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ragini-MMS">Ragini MMS</keyword>, has <keyword id="836886" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sunny-Leone">Sunny Leone</keyword> in the lead and that, of course, is making all the difference. Directed by <keyword id="820957" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bhushan-Patel">Bhushan Patel</keyword> and co-produced by <keyword id="6354597" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ekta-Kapoor">Ekta Kapoor</keyword> and <keyword id="154993" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Shobha-Kapoor">Shobha Kapoor</keyword>, this movie begins from where the earlier one left off. In the first flick, a couple goes to a secluded place to spend a fun weekend and the boy intends to make an MMS of the whole thing. But due to ghostly interventions, he gets killed and the girl manages to escape, but she is now a nervous wreck. 
 
Ragini MMS 2 kicks off from here but we still don’t know much about the storyline at this stage. As per some reports, a movie-maker has now decided to make a film based on the earlier incident and casts a <keyword id="23" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood-actress">Bollywood actress</keyword> (Sunny Leone) to play the lead role. But when the shooting starts in the haunted house, all hell breaks lose. 
 
The theatrical trailer of Ragini MMS 2 has hit the Internet on Monday (February 3) and last we checked, it was trending on Google with 20,000-plus searches. But we are not too impressed by the promo where Sunny Leone, the Indo-Canadian adult film star-turned-Bollywood <keyword id="6355604" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="actress">actress</keyword>, struts around in the skimpiest of outfits and the background looks suitably eerie. The other attraction of the sex-horror flick is <keyword id="2045553" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chaar-Bottle-Vodka">Chaar Bottle Vodka</keyword>, the new song from Ragini MMS 2 that features <keyword id="1089543" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Yo-Yo-Honey-Singh">Yo Yo Honey Singh</keyword> and Sunny Leone. But sadly, the song is not there in the promo.

Salman Khan-starrer <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Jai-Ho-Salman-FightsThrough-Clichs-Fails-To-Create-A-Dhoom/articleshow/29505187.cms">Jai Ho</a> (earlier called Mental), which was released on January 24, has finally entered the <keyword id="925977" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rs-100-crore-club">Rs 100 crore club</keyword>, collecting Rs 102.58 crore nett at home after 10 days. That’s a crawl, to say the least, compared to Aamir’s action-thriller <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Dhoom-3-Breaks-All-Bollywood-Movie-RecordsGives-You-Some-Dumb-Entertainment/articleshow/27853596.cms">Dhoom 3</a> that amassed Rs 170 crore-plus just after the first weekend, with nearly Rs 63 crore coming from the overseas markets. 
 
“#JaiHo actuals Week 1 – 88.78 cr, Wknd 2 – 13.80 cr. Grand total: 102.58 cr nett. India biz only. Figures confirmed by Eros,” tweeted trade analyst Taran Adarsh. 
 Globally, however, the flick has done well, especially in the UAE-GCC region, Pakistan and USA-Canada. Bollywoodhungama estimated the first weekend overseas gross at $3.55 million while <keyword id="255727" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Box-Office-India">Box Office India</keyword> estimated it at $3.45 million. Interestingly, Jai Ho is the fourth biggest overseas opener for a <keyword id="6354583" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Salman-Khan">Salman Khan</keyword> starrer-film.

The untitled film will be directed by Sandeep Modi of "The Night Manager" fame. It is produced by <keyword id="1732860" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hiroo-yash-johar" source="Orion">Hiroo Yash Johar</keyword>, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Shobha Kapoor, <keyword id="18583728" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ektaa-R-Kapoor" source="Orion">Ektaa R. Kapoor</keyword>. Karan Johar shared the announcement in an Instagram post on the occasion of Aaryan's 33 birthday. This film is scheduled to be released on August 15, 2025. "Kickstarting today with some special news on a special day!! Extremely thrilled to announce @dharmamovies &amp; @balajimotionpictures coming together for a film helmed by the exceptionally talented @sandeipm. "I find myself elated to also announce the supremely talented @kartikaaryan as our lead for this story that will unfold in cinemas on 15th August, 2025!!!!" the 51-year-old filmmaker wrote. He also extended birthday wishes to Aaryan and expressed his desire to collaborate with the actor again. "Kartik, happy birthday to you...may our collaboration only grow from strength to strength from hereon and never cease to create magic on the big screen," he said. In 2019, it was announced that Aaryan and Karan Johar would work together on "Dostana 2". Two years later, the makers said they will be recasting for the movie amid rumours about differences between the producer and the actor.

Mumbai, Jul 15 () A criminal complaint has been filed against film and television producer Ekta Kapoor before a magistrate's court here for allegedly disrespecting Indian Army's uniform in one of her web series. The complaint was filed by former 'Bigg Boss' contestant Vikas Pathak, also known as Hindustani Bhau, before a magistrate's court in suburban Bandra on Tuesday. The matter has been posted for hearing on August 24, Pathak's advocate Kashif Khan said. "My client had filed a complaint against Ekta Kapoor and others at a local police station, but no action has been taken till date, hence we moved a criminal complaint before the court," Khan said. Besides Ekta Kapoor, the complaint also names her OTT platform ALTBalaji, Shobha Kapoor and Jeetendra Kapoor, he said. As per the complaint, Pathak on May 20 came across a video on YouTube where an actor playing a military officer was seen performing an "illicit" act in a web series, aired on ALTBalaji. "The accused have stooped low and have shamelessly targetted the dignity and pride of our country by depicting the Indian Army military uniform with national emblem on it in the illicit sexual act," the complaint read. The movie grossed some Rs 40-50 lakh on the first day, but the opening weekend numbers are yet to come in. Directed by <keyword id="2188109" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Varun-Middha">Varun Middha</keyword>, this one had an estimated budget of Rs 5 crore, but may follow the same fate as Jal. 
 
Coming back to Main Tera Hero, it is not difficult to understand what makes this movie so popular. This one provides a laughter riot – a mad concoction of romance, action and <keyword id="3769" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="David-Dhawan">David Dhawan</keyword>’s brand of none-too-subtle comedy. But the best thing to happen to us is the star son Varun Dhawan, lauded by most critics as the <keyword id="2188114" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Young-Govinda">Young Govinda</keyword>. It is a remake of the Telugu blockbuster <keyword id="471189" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kandireega">Kandireega</keyword> – telling the story of <keyword id="2180043" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sreenath-Prasad">Sreenath Prasad</keyword> or <keyword id="761791" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Seenu">Seenu</keyword> (Varun Dhawan). The problem kid comes to the big city to put his life in order, carries out his romantic escapades with two babes, <keyword id="2647" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sunaina">Sunaina</keyword> (Ileana D’Cruz) and <keyword id="173" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ayesha">Ayesha</keyword> (<keyword id="37518" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nargis-Fakhri">Nargis Fakhri</keyword>), gets into fisticuffs with Sunaina’s cop beau <keyword id="11572" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Angad">Angad</keyword> (<keyword id="34751" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arunoday-Singh">Arunoday Singh</keyword>) and gets entangled with Ayesha’s mafia dad <keyword id="19147" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="vikrant">Vikrant</keyword> (<keyword id="6533" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Anupam-Kher">Anupam Kher</keyword>) and his gang. What follows is pure mayhem, but all things are sorted out well in the traditional Bollywood style and true lovers unite at the journey’s end. Quite a hilarious flick if you are ready to put logic away for some time and go with the Bollywood flow. 
 
 
 
In stark contrast, Jal portrays a reality as harsh as the arid land of Kutch. Here we have <keyword id="2188122" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bakka">Bakka</keyword> (<keyword id="26929" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="purab-kohli">Purab Kohli</keyword>), who has the power of divining water spots (does it remind you of <keyword id="6361516" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Nana-Patekar">Nana Patekar</keyword> in Thodasa Roomani Ho Jaayen?), his sweetheart <keyword id="32289" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="kesar">Kesar</keyword> (<keyword id="2349" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="kirti">Kirti</keyword>) hailing from a rival village and <keyword id="719919" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="animal-activist">animal activist</keyword> <keyword id="1158" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kim">Kim</keyword> (Saidah Jules). Kim is out to save the <keyword id="2188125" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Water-starved-flamingos">water-starved flamingos</keyword>, but not too interested to help the clan living there. Set against a stark yet magnificent backdrop, Jal had all the elements to become an epic tale of love and treachery, hope and hopelessness, apathy and ardour. Instead, viewers are handed out a simplistic story that fails to follow the stream of life (in other words, water) from the past into the future, the way it goes with human history. But the movie is worth the watch because of its <keyword id="2188126" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Offbeat-theme">offbeat theme</keyword> while Purab Kohli literally sets the screen on fire. 
 
Ebn-E-Batuta may remind you of <keyword id="47027" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="James-Cameron">James Cameron</keyword>’s <keyword id="44111" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Avatar">Avatar</keyword>, but there the similarities end. In this <keyword id="2188127" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="India-made-sci-fi-flick">India-made sci-fi flick</keyword>, the <keyword id="77929" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="aliens">aliens</keyword> have invaded <keyword id="976816" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Planet-Earth">Planet Earth</keyword> to conquer it, but three <keyword id="343" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Friends">friends</keyword> (<keyword id="389953" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Omkar-Das-Manikpuri">Omkar Das Manikpuri</keyword>, <keyword id="2188128" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dev-Gohar">Dev Gohar</keyword> and <keyword id="2188131" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Satyendra-Khare">Satyendra Khare</keyword>) try and <keyword id="382268" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="leverage">leverage</keyword> the power of the <keyword id="2151868" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="extra-terrestrials">extra-terrestrials</keyword> for their own advancement. Some social issues and fun moments are also there, but this one hardly matches the Hollywood flicks in terms of special effects. Kids may still enjoy the movie but with <keyword id="1906261" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bhoothnath-Returns">Bhoothnath Returns</keyword> (starring <keyword id="6357912" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="amitabh-bachchan">Amitabh Bachchan</keyword>) hitting the theatres on April 11, Ebn-E-Batuta is not likely to enjoy much exposure at the box office during the second weekend.
