Bollinger.</p></div><p></p></div></div>The Chronicle of Higher <keyword id="6355445" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Education">Education</keyword> has released its <a href="http://chronicle.com/interactives/executive-compensation#id=table_private_2013">annual executive compensation report</a> ranking US college presidents based on their total pay.</p><p>Lee Bollinger, Columbia University's longtime president, ranked first this year, with total compensation of more than $4.5 million in 2013 (the most recent data available).</p><p>That moved him up two spots from last year's third-place ranking.</p><p>Six of the top 10 presidents in executive pay from last year did not make this year's top 10, proving there is a bit of volatility in college executive pay. Most notably, Shirley Ann Jackson - who took the top spot last year making $7.1 million as president of <span>Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute - </span>fell to 14th place this year, making $1.3 million. The 10 highest-paid presidents at private colleges in America

<p><span class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><span data-post-image="" class="image on-image"></span><p></p></span>Columbia University president Lee C. Bollinger is the highest paid president in the Ivy League, according to data compiled by The Chronicle of Higher <keyword id="6355445" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Education">Education</keyword>.</p>
<p>Bollinger made $3,389,917 in 2012, the most recent year that financial documents are available for nonprofit institutions. The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/highest-paid-college-presidents-2014-12">highest paid college president in the country</a> - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute president Shirley Ann Jackson - made more than $7 million that year, according to The Chronicle.</p>
<p>Student newspaper The Columbia Daily Spectator has <a href="http://columbiaspectator.com/spectrum/2014/12/07/34-million-bollinger-now-third-highest-paid-private-university-president">a great breakdown of how Bollinger made his more than $3,000,000</a> in 2012, including his $1,012,707 base salary. This year, The Chronicle changed its methodology to include only direct payments to the college presidents - such as their base salary, bonus, nontaxable benefits, and other reportable compensation.</p>
<p>Because of the nature of nonprofit financial reports, these numbers are from a few years ago and show a very different portrait of Ivy League leadership than is currently in place. Half of the names listed below are no longer president of their respective colleges - we've marked each former president with an *.</p>

Here's How Much Each Ivy League University President Makes In A Year

<p class="source"><span>David Goldman/AP Photo</span></p><p class="caption">Travelers line up at a United Airlines check-in counter at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.</p>United Airlines <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ap-united-apologizes-after-giving-away-toddlers-purchased-seat-2017-7">has apologized</a> after reselling a toddler's seat to a standby passenger on a flight from Houston to Boston late last week.<p>As a result of the incident, Shirley Yamauchi, the child's mother, was forced to hold the toddler in her lap for the duration of the nearly four-hour-long flight.</p><p>Forcing the 27-month-old toddler to sit on his mother's lap may have violated <a href="https://www.united.com/web/en-US/content/travel/specialneeds/infants/default.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">United's own policies</a> regarding children. According to the airline's travel policies, children under the age of two may be allowed to travel on their parent's lap. However, Yamauchi's son was over that age limit.</p><p>United Airlines was not immediately available for comment regarding the age limit. </p><p>While there isn't a federally mandated age limit on lap children, the <a href="https://www.faa.gov/passengers/fly_children/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Federal Aviation Administration</a> advises against children flying in their parents' laps regardless of age. Instead, the agency suggests parents purchase seats for their children and use approved safety seats or restraint devices on board flights. </p><p><span>"Your arms aren't capable of holding your child securely, especially during unexpected turbulence," The FAA wrote on its website. "</span><span>The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) strongly urges you to secure your child in a child safety restraint system or device for the duration of your flight. It's the smart and right thing to do so that everyone in your family arrives safely at your destination."</span></p><p><span>Yamauchi, a middle school teacher from Hawaii, told <a href="http://www.kitv.com/story/35811481/united-takes-seat-away-from-2-year-old-resells-ticket" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">ABC affiliate KITV </a>that she declined to speak up during the flight out of fear that it could cause a scene. </span></p><p><span>"I'm scared. I'm worried. I'm traveling with an infant. I didn't want to get hurt. I didn't want either of us to get hurt," she told KITV. "I had him in all these contorted sleeping positions. In the end, very sadly, he was standing up between my knees."</span></p><p><span>Yamauchi told <a href="http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/35811846/hawaii-teacher-forced-to-hold-son-on-lap-after-united-gives-purchased-seat-to-standby-passenger" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Hawaii News Now</a> that she paid nearly $1,000 for her son's seat.</span></p><p>In response, the airline has refunded both the mother's and the toddler's tickets from Hawaii to Boston. </p><p>In a statement to Business Insider, United Airlines wrote:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span>"We deeply apologize to Ms. Yamauchi and her son for this experience. We are refunding their tickets and providing compensation as a goodwill gesture. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div>A movement is underway to replace President Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill with the first female face on printed U.S. currency.</p><p>The list of women who the activists say should grace the bill includes abolitionist icon Harriet Tubman, suffragist Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.  </p><p>In order for a public figure to be featured on paper currency, the individual must be deceased by at least two years. So modern day figures like supreme court justices or cabinet level officials are out.</p><p>The effort, <a href="http://www.womenon20s.org/primaries">Women on 20s</a>, is asking the public to vote for the top candidates from a list of 15 famous females that includes activists like Rosa Parks, Eleanor Roosevelt and Clara Barton.</p><p>Barbara Howard founded the Women on 20s movement. She discussed the project in a conversation with Business Insider today. </p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Howard started the currency campaign after she had a moment of frustration when she realized there were no females on paper currency that she could show her own daughter. Suffragist Susan B. Anthony and Sacagawea, a Native American guide who assisted Lewis and Clark, have both been featured on dollar coins, but neither have gained mainstream circulation.</span></p><p>Howard, an entrepreneur in New York, settled on championing an effort to find a new figure for the $20 bill since it is a denomination significance. By law, President George Washington can't be pushed off the $1 bill. No one else has guaranteed real estate on US currency.</p><p>According to Howard, she also thought the "mixed legacy" of Jackson made the bill ripe for a change. As the 7th U.S. President, Jackson had supported the forced resettlement of Native American off their ancestral land that resulted in a period of widespread suffering during the relocation known as the "Trail of Tears."</p><p>"I wasn't going to ask Abraham Lincoln's people if they would step aside," Howard said about not wanting to disrupt the legacy of Lincoln, who appears on the $5 bill.</p><p>Taking a cue from the 20016 presidential election, the currency movement is currently in the primary phase. The public <a href="http://www.womenon20s.org/primaries">can now vote for three names</a> off a list of 15 candidates.</p><p>With more than 100,000 votes in hand, the group will whittle down the list to three finalists. They will also add a fourth candidate, Chief Wilma Mankiller, after calls for Native American representation to appear on the final list.</p><p>A final ballot with four candidates will then be submitted to the public again for a vote.</p><p>Then the winning candidate will be submitted for President Obama's consideration, in a "We the People" petition on the White House website. </p><p>In the meantime, with no female faces on her cash, Howard says she's "using 10s and 5s" instead.</p><p>"I don't want to use those 20s anymore," she said, adding, <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">"Our culture still has these unconscious symbols that don't really speak to our integrated society. People are pushing to have these women appear on the $20 bill

In <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrLO0F-nKYs">a scene&#xa0;from the comedy show "Little Britain" where a reporter interviews people parodying&#xa0;Shirley Bassey and Tom Jones</a>, the singers talk about the celebrities they know.</p><p>They get into a discussion of&#xa0;the <a href="http://www.thisisinsider.com/emily-blunt-should-be-the-next-james-bond-2016-6">James Bond</a> theme songs they've made (Bassey wrote three of them). "What do you think of the more recent efforts?," the reporter asks. "'Goldeneye?'" Shirley asks. "I love Tina [Turner], <strong>but she doesn't have the range.</strong> I'm sorry, Tina. I love you. You know I adore you. <strong>But you don't have the range!</strong>"</p><p>The interviewer asks about more Bond theme songs. He likes Garbage's "The World is Not Enough." Does Bassey? "She doesn't have the range!" Sheryl Crow? "She doesn't have the range." Gladys Knight? "She doesn't have the range." Paul McCartney? "She doesn't have the range."</p><p>Shirley Bassey herself? "She doesn't have the range. I'm sorry, Shirley. I love her to bits. But she doesn't have the range."</p><p>"But that's you," the interviewer responds.</p><p>"I don't care. I don't have the range."</p><p>On June 20, someone tweeted&#xa0;part of the clip, <a href="http://nymag.com/selectall/2016/06/she-doesnt-have-the-range.html">as spotted by Select All</a>:</p><p><div></div></p><p>And thus, a meme was born. <strong>"She doesn't have the range" is a way to dismiss people who don't live up to your standards.</strong> In a music context specifically, it's a backhanded compliment. The 24 must-read books of the summer

Zimmer made more than $3,ooo,ooo in 2011</a>, the most of any private <keyword id="6360288" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="college">college</keyword> executive, according a new report from The Chronicle of <keyword id="6375224" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="higher-education">Higher Education</keyword>.</p>
<p>The higher <keyword id="6355445" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Education">education</keyword> publication surveyed executive <keyword id="6356362" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="compensation">compensation</keyword> data collected from 2011 IRS filings for the 500 colleges with the largest endowments. The Chronicle found that the median pay for college executives in 2011 was $410,523 - a 3% increase from 2010.</p>
<p>42 college presidents recieved more than $1,000,000 from their positions in 2011, up from <a href="http://chronicle.com/article/What-They-Made-Executive/136165/#id=table">36 the previous year</a>, according to The Chronicle.</p>
<p>Ron B. Seifert, an expert on higher education presidential compensation, told The Chronicle that <a href="http://chronicle.com/article/Boards-Justify-High-Pay/143605/">Zimmer's high pay may be due to the size and complexity of the school's budget</a>. The University of Chicago is "one of just 10 private colleges with budgets greater than $3-billion," according to The Chronicle.</p>
<p>"It would be really difficult for you to prove to me that the challenges associated with running a $200-million institution are the same as somebody running an institution at $2-billion. They are inherently different in terms of the managerial skills required," Seifert said.</p>

<p>A <a href="http://www.ajc.com/gallery/news/booking-photos-aps-educators/g8qM/#3263227">73-year-old principal</a>, a middle school secretary, elementary school teachers, and other school workers are accused of being behind the nation's biggest cheating scandal.</p>
<p>Prosecutors are going after them under a racketeering <keyword id="6355470" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Law">law</keyword> originally <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racketeer_Influenced_and_Corrupt_Organizations_Act">enacted to target the mafia</a>, and they face prison time for allegedly changing students' test scores. Many of the teachers <strong><a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/04/02/atlanta-school-cheating-scandal/2045139/">had bonds of $1 million or more</a> </strong>that they had to argue to get lowered to six or five figures.<strong> </strong></p>
<p>The <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2013/03/29/us/atlanta-schools-indictment.html">scathing indictment</a> of mostly black teachers <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/03/us/atlanta-cheating-scandal-jailing-educators.html">has sparked allegations of racism </a>from the Concerned Black Clergy and a prominent former mayor, The New York Times has reported. Rev. Timothy McDonald, a spokesman for Concerned Black Clergy, called the indictment "overkill" at best.</p>
<p>“Look at the pictures of those 35,” he told the Times. “Show me a white face. Let’s just be for real. You can call it racist, you can call it whatever you want, but this is overkill.<strong> We have seen people with much deeper crimes with much less bond set.”</strong></p>
<p>It's clear prosecutors meant to send a strong message by arresting so many teachers after a sting operation that enlisted at least one <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/atlanta-cheating-indictment-beverly-hall-2013-4">third-grade teacher to wear a wire.</a></p>
<p>Teachers and principals are being accused of systematically and brazenly changing students' standardized test scores for possibly as long as a decade. These scores spiked when ex-superintendent Beverly Hall ran the school between 1999 and 2010, causing state regulators to become suspicious and start investigating the mostly minority district.</p>
<p><strong>Hall, <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2013/03/29/us/atlanta-schools-indictment.html">whose name appears at the top of the indictment,</a> could go to prison for 45 years</strong>. She previously had a stellar reputation, and her lawyer Richard Deane told The New York Times that "not a single person" has alleged she helped them cheat.</p>
<p>The indictment says Hall placed "unreasonable emphasis" on meeting test targets and ignored signs of rampant cheating while handing out bonuses to staff at <keyword id="37180" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="schools">schools</keyword> with high scores. <span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">A potential 45-year prison term for Hall certainly seems harsh over such allegations.</span></p>
<p>Throwing a lot of educators into jail with pretty big bail seems harsh too, especially since the bonuses they allegedly colluded to get <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/08/us/08hall.html?pagewanted=all">reportedly ranged from just $750 to $1,000.</a></p>
<p>Former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Jackson, like the Concerned Black Clergy, has rushed to the teachers' defense and accused the media of unfairly skewering them.</p>
<p>"<strong>Yes cheating is awful</strong>," she <a href="http://www.bloggingwhileblue.com/2013/04/yes-cheating-is-awful.html">writes on her blog</a>. "And so is conviction before a fair trial. I believe every accused person deserves a fair trial under a set of laws that promises to be just and balanced<strong>. I don’t support public hangings. It is barbaric.</strong>"</p>
<p>Jackson added, <strong>"Prosecutors, judges and jurors make mistakes and overreach."</strong></p>
