Shipsy is one of the many logistics startups in India that has raised funding in the recent past as the coronavirus lockdown put more emphasis on supply chain management. “The platform helps shippers reduce freight costs by automating and digitizing freight negotiations, reducing incidental charges, significantly improving shipping turnaround time and minimising working capital loss for shippers through advanced machine learning models. Owing to a substantial increase in the demand for our solution, it was important to leverage the momentum and look out for global investment partners in our next leg of our journey,” said Soham Chokshi, Co-founder and CEO of Shipsy. Choksi added that with the new funds, the startup would continue to invest in geographical expansion as well as product innovation. The five-year-old startup claims that it currently processes 10% of India’s trade and “is creating the largest global trade network by bringing all stakeholders of the International logistics ecosystem on a single platform.” “Shipsy’s team has a customer-first approach and their software product solves for opacity in the logistics supply chain for enterprises using intuitive workflow automation. The product has seen great adoption from large Indian as well as overseas corporates with significant cost reduction for them. We are excited to continue backing the team as Shipsy is evolving into a global B2B product being built and scaled from India,” said Sanjeev Bikhchandani, Founder and Executive Vice Chairman of Info Edge in a statement. Sequoia’s Surge and Info Edge invest $6 million in logistics platform Shipsy

New Delhi, Nov 15 () Info Edge (India), which runs naukri.com, on Friday said it has invested Rs 5 crore in digital logistics platform Shipsy.
 The Gurugram-based startup will use the proceeds of the pre-series A round towards sales and marketing as well as for broadening product offerings of its EXIM platform, a statement said.
 This will also allow it to prepare itself for the series-A round by early next year for an organic geographical expansion beyond Indian market, it added.
 In a regulatory filing, Info Edge (India) said it has agreed to acquire 2,005, or 0.01 per cent, Series A1 compulsorily convertible preference shares having a face value of Rs 10 each.
 "The aggregate shareholding of the company, post this investment, in the said entity would be 10 per cent on a fully converted and diluted basis," the filing added.
 Info Edge (India) has invested in a number of companies including Zomato, Applect (meritnation.com), Etechaces Marketing and Consulting (Policybazaar), Kinobeo Software (mydala) and Happily Unmarried among others.
 Founded in June 2015, Shipsy was founded with the vision to digitise the logistics ecosystem. The enterprise initially provided solutions for both courier agencies and shippers. Later, it diversified and expanded its services to the broader logistics ecosystem.
 The company was co-founded by Soham Chokshi and Dhruv Agarwal, and were later joined by Himanshu Gupta and Sahil Arora. In 2018-19, Shipsy had a turnover of Rs 5.6 crore. SR SHW

Info Edge invests Rs 5 cr in Shipsy

New Delhi, Surge, <keyword id="122716" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sequoia-Capital">Sequoia Capital</keyword> Indias rapid scale-up <keyword id="10159" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="programme">programme</keyword> for startups, on Wednesday said that 17 early-stage startups have been selected for the fourth cohort of its programme. One of the key features of the programme is that the founders of the selected startups receive a $1 million to $2 million early on in the programme, so they can start hiring and building their product right away. The programme also combines a global curriculum and support from a community of exceptional mentors and founders. "Surge 04" startups are headquartered in India, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia -- and for the first time since the launch of the programme, in Australia. They span a wide range of sectors including edtech, fintech, SME Tech, DevTools, consumer, healthtech and B2B marketplaces. Over half the startups in this cohort are SaaS (Software-as-a-Service companies). The 17 selected startups are -- Aampe, Epsilo, Hashnode, Kyt, LambdaTest, Let's Dive, Mod.io, <keyword id="10331438" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="otoklix">Otoklix</keyword>, <keyword id="10331130" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="pagarbook">PagarBook</keyword>, Plum, Richpanel, Shipsy, Studyroom, Tazapay, Stealth 1, Stealth 2, and Stealth 3. Eleven of the 17 companies are building for cross-border markets, pushing beyond their geographical borders from day one. He feels that AI itself cannot displace someone from a job but an individual with access to AI can. "While laws of the land are still catching up, today most AI development is self-regulated. Given that this involves sensitive, private information, companies deploying AI must have a strong moral stand when building this technology," he said. Vijay Shekhar Sharma, the Founder and CEO of Paytm expressed concern over the power amassed by some people and countries. "Organisations will need to balance business advantages with societal impact," he added. Ajay Kumar, the CEO of Bangalore-based technology services provider SLK shares that there is a dot com and mobility boom-like excitement among entrepreneurs, making it difficult to keep pace with advancements. "Amidst all this excitement of creating new business models and securing financial valuations, we have to ensure data privacy and proper ethical standards so that technology works for all of us," he pointed. Sonya Ahuja, Founder and COO of edtech Imarticus Learning said, "Recognising the recent volatility in edtech platforms and layoff concerns, disruption in the industry, technological advancement should go hand in hand with upskilling and reskilling initiatives." E-learning startup Physics Wallah has an AI-powered "Ask Doubt" tool that suggests related doubts and provides guidance to students using its database. Chief Technology Officer Devesh Mishra encourages human-controlled, transparent AI to "maintain the human touch". "Technology should complement and enhance human capabilities rather than replace or undermine them," he added. San Francisco-based transcription tool Fireflies.ai is working on personalised note taking. Their ChatGPT-like assistant AskFred pulls up answers using the notes repository. Krish Ramineni, CEO of Fireflies.ai feels organisations which fail to adopt transformative technologies will struggle to keep pace with early adopters. He sees AI like a calculator or Excel-like tool which makes work faster. "AI can crunch numbers, provide projections, and suggest areas for improvement. However, when it comes to building trust and closing deals, nothing beats the human touch," he added. San Mateo-based Yellow.ai aims to democratise technology on its platform by supporting local and regional languages. CEO and co-founder of Yellow.ai Raghu Ravinutala notes that entrepreneurs should proactively address the impact of automation on jobs. "While technological advancements may lead to job displacement in certain sectors, entrepreneurs should invest in retraining to ensure smooth workforce transition," he notes. Sam Altman, founder and CEO of ChatGPT developer OpenAI was among 350 signatories of the Center for AI Safety statement for reducing the risk of human extinction from AI. Amit Das, Founder and CEO of Mumbai-based IT services provider Think360.ai observes, one is scared of what they do not fully understand, in the short-term. "While mass-market AI like ChatGPT is exciting and scary at the same time, task automation will make way for innovations," he added. HDFC Life invests in tech fund to support digital entrepreneurs in India

Through the new program, drivers will be able to collect their earnings from the company any time of the week instead of waiting for the fixed weekly cash. However, the drivers will be able to take out the money once they have earned a minimum of ₹200. “Drivers drive our business, and we have always said there is no Uber without drivers. Supporting the driver community has never been more important than now. To help drivers in these challenging times, we’ve rolled-out an ‘On Demand cash-out feature’ which allows them the flexibility to cash out at any day of the week, instead of waiting for their weekly cash outs,” said Pavan Vaish, Head of Supply and Driver Operations, <keyword id="2502101" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uber-India">Uber India</keyword> SA in a statement. Unacademy valuation soars to $2 billion as the edtech startup raises more funds from Tiger Global and Dragoneer Investment Group

But, there’s one company where you can buy shares⁠— Info Edge, which has become a listed proxy for the spiking valuations in tech startups.
