<ul><li><keyword id="99676" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shilpa-Shetty-Kundra">Shilpa Shetty Kundra</keyword>, who has been missing from the big screen for the past 13 years has become the face of yet another brand. </li><li>She has 13 brands in her kitty from varied categories like Food &amp; Beverages, Telecom, Skincare, FMCG, Chocolates, and more. </li><li>As Shilpa signs another brand, we try to decode what still makes the actor relevant and how she has become an example of breaking age-disparity in the industry. </li></ul>Shilpa Shetty Kundra, the 43-year-old Bollywood actress, has bagged yet another brand in her kitty. She is now the face of home decor brand, Stellar Homes USA and represents 13 brands in total. Shilpa was last seen on the silver screen in the 2007 film Apne but she never really left the limelight. She continued judging various TV reality shows, became an entrepreneur by starting her own fitness channel called The Shilpa Shetty app and invested in a start-up called Mamaearth. Shilpa has over 1.6 million subscribers on her YouTube channel, which covers fashion tips, her fitness regime and a cooking show. While on Instagram, she has gained more than 6 million followers in a short span of time. According to media reports, she has a net worth of $20 million. This year, her long sabbatical of 13 years will also come to an end as she will be seen in two movies -- Nikamma and Hungama 2. Brand Journey Shilpa was 16 and a part of the modelling world when an aerated drinks brand approached her. Today, she regrets falling for money and choosing shortcuts. Shilpa is now wary of the kind of brands she chooses to work with. She has walked out of the meeting rooms if she doesn’t resonate with the brand. “Earlier, I really didn't think about whether I suited the brand. It was only about whether I was getting paid enough to leverage my name. But in the last five years, there has been a change in my thought process. When people take you seriously as a brand or rather someone synonymous with health and fitness, you become more responsible. So if something doesn't resonate with my personality or something that I can't use at home for my family or me, I won't endorse it,” admits Shilpa. Before her big release lined up this year, Shilpa turned down a Rs 10 crore offer from an Ayurvedic Slimming Pill brand because she did not want youngsters, who look up to her, to fall for fad diets. “There's so many brands I have turned down, I can't sit down and list those,” she breaks into a chuckle. She says she would have bagged a lot more brands and made more money had she not been so fastidious. Pan Masala brands and Aerated Drinks are completely off her list and she says she wouldn’t consider endorsing them ‘for all the money in the world.’ Explaining her modus operandi of choosing deals, she says, “I'm very particular and there's a lot of due diligence that goes into the brands that I work with. And I really believe that there is no shortcut in life. If you were to tell people that by popping pills you will lose weight, I think people who actually work out the right way will start losing faith in what they're doing. And I just feel that though we stopped focusing on mental health, and we will be talking about prizes and losing weight, fitting into a certain size, I think mental health is equally important. And I can't endorse something that doesn't fall into line with my philosophy.” The secret behind her relevance in the industry It was during her post-pregnancy period that Shilpa was asked a lot of questions about her fitness regime on the internet. She joined social media to help people out and realised that the audiences’ love for her hasn’t changed. She used that to her advantage and started her own application. It is her penchant for fitness and strong social media following, that brands still find her relevant. “After all these years, I feel like I stayed relevant. Today, I'm doing two films after 13 years but people still know me, not only because of television, but also because I stand for propagating good health. I want to bring about an awareness and want to play the role of a catalyst. As actors, we are always looked up to, and we have the power of social media. I used that to start my own YouTube channel,” shares Shilpa. Now, Shilpa Shetty is in-between meetings, looking for a fundraiser for her application to expand her reach further. Experts Speak Ashutosh Harbola, CEO and Co-founder, Buzzoka thinks that Shilpa had a strong influence on the industry since she made her fortune in Big Brother; her brand image changed after that and IPL, he says, added a cherry on the cake. “Shilpa Shetty is an ever-blooming social media star and her constant touchpoint with her audience makes her relevant even when she doesn't have too much in her kitty. From a brand's perspective, it's the right fit. Since the social and digital-first audience is always on social media, their appetite for relevancy is much filled. Also, Shilpa has been testing a couple of other platforms too which is keeping her both busy and buzzed. We all saw her entry on TikTok and it's a perfect example of being in the news for the right reasons,” says he. “Post her marriage, she is amongst the rich kids of Instagram making the world drool on her cuteness and the lavish lifestyle,” adds Harbola. N Chandramouli, CEO, TRA Research, highlights how strong her social media currency is, which is one of the reasons why brands still love her. “It is not easy for an actor who has been out of an active acting career for over 10 years to continue to stay relevant. However, Shilpa Shetty has reinvented herself in many new avatars to do what she is good at. She is a fitness icon, TV reality show judge, fashionista, partner in a spa chain, has over 1.6 million subscribers on her Youtube food channel, 6 million followers on her Instagram, among other things. Guess that's more than enough to keep her relevant with new-age millennials and others,” says Chandramouli. Social Media and Brand Expert, Karthik Srinivasan thinks Shilpa’s relatability factor for millennials and Gen Y has worked in her favor. “Shilpa Shetty, I believe, appeals to and can be recognised by a whole lot of middle-aged and older women unlike an Ananya Panday or Alia Bhatt. That relatability is what perhaps works in her favor. Ditto for actors like Vidya Balan. To some extent, it's also a factor of a 40+ woman actor to continue to want attention, work and assignments. Some may choose to shun the limelight and live a more obscure life surrounded by people close to them, as a way to escape the excess attention of earlier times. Shilpa Shetty has been in the limelight long after her exiting the film industry, including her foray into owning teams and so on. So, modeling and films continue to help her position her brand,” explains Srinivasan. An inspiration for other actresses The Khans of Bollywood and actors like Akshay Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan, still continue to be the Top 10 celebrities. Senior actresses, on the other hand, struggle to find film projects. As they vanish from the limelight after they get married, brands stop approaching them. Shilpa is unhesitant to agree that she found her calling much later in her career arc and feels women are finally stepping up to turn the tables. “I found my calling very late but I guess better late than never. Also, times are changing. You see actresses are far more daring today. It's also a more egalitarian world now. Women are given far more opportunities. I think women today are willing to take risks. And yes, it's a different world. And I think that's the only thing that's constant - change,” says Shilpa. Srinivasan also thinks the situation is changing, thanks to actresses like Shilpa Shetty and Vidya Balan and script writers that are breaking the age stereotypes. “I think as an industry, Bollywood (and the regional film industries, in particular) have moved definitely away from age-limits for women actors. While there's always (and still) a demand for young women actors, there are scripts being written for older ages as well, who do not fit the conventional stereotypes of a leading woman in films,” says Srinivasan. He adds, “From a branding point of view, I was very pleasantly surprised to see Tapsee Pannu featured in a Horlicks ad where she was specifically called out as being 30+. Or a Kangana Ranaut playing a mother of a boy in Panga. This scenario was unheard of a few years ago when only men had the freedom to be called 30+, 40+ and still get away with conventional roles in films. 40+ Shilpa Shetty is a variant of the 30+ Tapsee and Kangana.” Chandramouli, on the other hand, feels the onus also lies on actresses. “Brands take endorsements from 53-year-old male actors endorsing colas, and 77-year-old males endorsing everything. When it comes to women celebrities, there are occasions when you will see someone like Madhuri Dixit, who is above 50 years get endorsements. But many don't get as lucky as her. And this age-related aberration is one of the strangest as many times when choosing actors playing an older role, directors tend to cast younger actors. To correct this is the responsibility of female actors as also it is of brands and advertising agencies. Many times due to the paucity of opportunities, women celebrities above 40 tend to start focusing on other areas of their interests in work and personal life. In a highly competitive world, they must continue to stay relevant in their interest areas, stay connected with audiences, and find new interests which find newer fans. Since all endorsements are a commercial arrangement, the fee of endorsement also matters, for the potential endorsers must be willing to adjust fees in line with market demand. For the brands and agencies, it is important to have greater acceptance, to try the different, reink campaigns with such potential endorsers.” While many actresses have come and vanished with time, Shilpa Shetty Kundra has never left the showbiz, setting an example for other female actors in the industry.

 Work up a sweat While comics may work to keep kids entertained indoors, it doesn’t involve a lot of movement. Even the parks and playgrounds are shut leaving kids with no way to burn off that excess energy that was normally used during classes. Kaif claims that her 20-minute workout is a good go-to to keep endorphins up at a time when anxiety is high and it builds up immunity. The audio on the stream isn’t the best, so you should probably sync up your own playlist to make sure you and your kid stay pumped. Shetty, known for her workout videos and emphasis on yoga, has also released a work out video for those stuck in self-isolation. She encourages people to work out at least four times a week to keep up their immunity. Tinkle, Katrina Kaif and Shilpa Shetty are pushing comics and workouts to keep coronavirus from driving people crazy

 "Income Tax department is considering issuing of Permanent Account Number (PAN) on a real time basis using Aadhaar's e-KYC facility. The proposal is at an initial stage of consideration," Minister of State for <keyword id="25455" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="finance">Finance</keyword> <keyword id="258592" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Santosh-Kumar-Gangwar">Santosh Kumar Gangwar</keyword> said in a written reply to the <keyword id="6355187" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> today. 
 
Besides, he said a mobile app "for paying taxes online has been developed. The mobile application has the functionality to pay taxes and track refunds".

 Besides, the tax department has started online PAN application facility using digital signature certification or Aadhaar based e-signature. "Also, online paperless PAN application facility using Aadhaar based e-KYC and e-signature is available through the websites of PAN services providers NSDL eGov and UTIITSL. In this facility, Aadhaar data is used for allotment of PAN and there is no need to upload scanned copies of any document," <keyword id="388942" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="gangwar">Gangwar</keyword> said. 
 
The aadhaar-based e-KYC facility would allow individuals or entities wanting to apply for PAN to verify details such as date of birth or address by way of biometric identification using thumb impressions.

So far, more than 111 crore Aadhar numbers have been issued. The unique identification number is being used for getting a new SIM card, for opening bank accounts, transfer of subsidies and also for biometric-based digital payments under Aadhaar Enabled Payment System. 
 
As per the government estimate, every year 2.5 crore people across the country apply for PAN cards. 
 
There are more than 25 crore PAN card holders in the country.

Tax dept app to track refunds; plans issuing PAN in real time

Amazon India on Friday announced that its smart assistant Alexa that completed one year of its existence is now available on both Android and iOS smartphones in the country. The customers can now interact with Alexa in Hindi using the Alexa app on their mobile devices. "In an effort to make Alexa in Hindi more useful for customers, we have added over 60 new features in the past year. These include improvements such as asking Alexa to whisper, adjust how fast or slow she speaks, and new experiences such as asking Alexa for health-related information, Hindi definitions of words in English, Audible Suno and so on," Puneesh Kumar, Country Leader for Alexa, Amazon India, told IANS. Many users are also purchasing Amazon Echo devices for their parents as they are more comfortable to speak to the devices in Hindi. "We will continue to make Alexa interactions in Hindi even more seamless and conversational. It is still Day 1," Kumar added. Amazon has also added six new Alexa original songs and poems, along with 20 new stories in Hindi. Alexa now has a special message for all users in India. Just ask "Alexa, hamari dosti par poem sunao". Alexa can now understand 50 different ways to play a particular song in Hindi. The Alexa Speech Science team has used the latest advances in deep neural networks, multi-dialect training, and semi-supervised learning to reduce Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) errors by more than 40 per cent since the launch of Hindi last year. The company said that Alexa is now equipped with hundreds of new words from the Hindi vocabulary, and is also able to understand different ways in which customers can ask for the same information. "Users of the Alexa in Hindi have a unique taste in music. In addition to asking for Bollywood music, they are most likely to ask for devotional and spiritual songs. We also noticed increased requests for songs related to festive occasions such as Raksha Bandhan songs or Chhath Puja," Kumar told IANS. At the launch last year, Amazon had over 500 Hindi skills. Today, it has over 1,000 Hindi Skills, including Audible Suno, Ramayan Katha, Devotional Stories by Hungama, Shilpa Shetty Yoga, Jungle Safari, Kabir's Dohe, Rekhta, Hindi Jokes and so on. Alexa in Hindi can be experienced on the entire Amazon Echo range of smart speakers, Alexa built-in devices by other brands, the company said. Anant Ambani’s epic weight loss is astonishing and reads like a story out of a before-and-after weight loss advertisement. 
 
But it was not as simple as it sounds. From weighing 208 kilos to 100 kilos now, a staggering loss of 108 kilos and that too within 18 months, reveals the amount of hardwork and dedication a person has put in to get back into shape. 
 
For Anant, the journey wasn’t easy, as coupled with bad eating habits, medical issues, he had to make some serious sacrifices, but for good, of course. 
 His trainer <keyword id="943140" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vinod-Channa">Vinod Channa</keyword> is to be applauded for the astounding weight loss. So, what was the Anant’s schedule like, including his fitness training and diet? Anant focused on yoga, cardio, strength or functional training. 
 
“During the first phase, we focused on his nutrition which included protein, low carbs, fibres, etc. We started walking from 30 minutes to two hours, depending on his capacity. For resistance training, we added supporting equipments like leg press, chest press. Initially, the workouts were low on intensity as he was unable to do high sets, high reps due to his medical issue and body balancing problems,” said Channa. 
 
Speaking about the diet, Channa had put Anant on a strict diet, consuming only 1200 calories in a day. 
 
“His diet includes lots of vegetables, sprouts, cottage cheese, lentils, pulses and half teaspoon of ghee. This was the only diet he had stick to. His calorie consumption in a day was 1200 -1400 calories,” the trainer said. 
 
Well, we all have our weak moments and Anant is also a human after all. When asked about his weak moments and if he thought of giving up, Channa said ,“Sometimes he used to expect that he needs to lose certain gram of weight everyday, which is not possible every time. His lifestyle, like late nights and hormonal changes and lot of other issues made him gain 200-300 grams due to which he felt de-motivated at times. He would be very tensed about his workout and diet routine. He wanted a diet plan that would make him lose weight everyday, which is impossible,” said Channa. 
 
But, we all know he did not give in and Anant displayed to the world his slim avatar. 
 
“Anant was aware what he needs to do and where he needs to reach. He was dedicated and strict with his diet which is very difficult for an individual who has a past of over eating and junk food,” said Channa. 
 
Channa advised Anant to be positive and eat right at the right time. 
 
“I also used to give him break diets so that he felt motivated for regular workouts also. Workout sessions, with time, became fun and enjoyable for him,” said Channa.

Even as it sounds as a hollow promise to most, the idea of getting John-like perfect lean cuts and athletic physique is so tempting that all logical thinking goes down the drain. You end up hiring him not only as your personal trainer but that too, at double the price! 
 Before you spend a fortune for what are sheer lies and what is known as a marketing gimmick, hear John’s personal trainer <keyword id="943140" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vinod-Channa">Vinod Channa</keyword>’s piece of advice: First and foremost, don’t follow a celebrity, please! 
 
“It’s not only dangerous, but also discouraging for somebody who has just started his/her fitness journey. Also, some trainers might end up pushing you too much with high-intensity or high-repetition workouts. That’s not going to help. You will tire out and quit,” says the 36-year-old celebrity trainer, who explains that John has trained for several years to be able to adapt to rigorous workouts to meet the health and fitness needs of his movies. 
 Also, he explains that the same <keyword id="24256" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="workout">workout</keyword> as John could have a different effect on a different body because of different genetic makeup and differing lifestyle. So what may work for him may not work for you even if you are put on a similar fitness regime. Instead, Vinod would prefer to give a few basic and wise health and fitness tips to you: 
 
Don’t procrastinate, get up and hit the gym! 
 
“You may be planning to start exercising for ages. Merely planning won’t help. Get out of your comfort zone, identify a good gym and most importantly, hit it! 
 
Get the right trainer for yourself 
 
Spend time identifying the right trainer for yourself – ideally one who has certification or has experience. Vinod, however, cautions that the trainer should be interested not in what he wants to do but in what you want to achieve. A good trainer will not only be in sync with your requirement according to your lifestyle, fitness level and genetics, but also extract your potential. Go with a senior trainer with at least five years of experience who is certified in different types of fitness techniques and has experience of handling different kinds of people. Most importantly, he should have tried the techniques on himself, only then would he be a good teacher. 
 
Set a target: 
 
Where am I, what’s my target and by when do I want to achieve it- decide! Until you have a target, you are going nowhere with your workout. 
 
Follow a progressive workout: 
 
Enhance your workout every day. If you are doing 10 pulls ups, try 15 or start doing 10 with single hand. Similarly, if you are doing 10 kg spotting, try 15 so on and so forth. Stretch yourself a bit to go the extra mile, not too much. 
 
Compete with yourself, not others: 
 
It will help you in not feeling disappointed if you don’t attain that near perfect body despite rigorous workouts. “John was training with 20 pound weight and he was able to get 19 inch triceps. We trainers can sustain 30 – 40 pound weight, but our triceps haven’t enhanced like John’s,” says Vinod. Set your own benchmark and work towards realizing it. Don’t follow a celebrity! 
 
Stay optimistic, Live in the present and do your best! 
 
Having a healthy mind is very important for achieving a fit body. Stay happy and positive, only then can you sustain that endurance that is needed to become fit. 
 
Inculcate good eating habits 
 
Your meals should have 25 per cent protein, 40 per cent carbs (good) and 35 per cent fat. It helps in sustaining you longer during the day. Whenever you feel you are gaining, increase intensity of workouts and switch to a low carb diet. 
 
Hailing from a middle class background, Vinod Channa’s 16-year-journey from body building to becoming one of India’s top celebrity trainer is no less compared to that of a Bollwood star’s journey to stardom. 
 
It all started for him when he was 16. 
 
He was called names by boys his age for being lean and sensitive despite being a male. He took it in his stride to work on his physique, he says, only to later win 1 Mumbai Gold, 2 silver, 2 Maharashtra silver medals. He also won two championships in body building. His journey however was not an easy one. 
 
“When I set out, I didn’t have money and my family was dependent on me. I started working out in small gyms first because I couldn’t afford better ones and soon, I ended up getting training from body builders as there were no personal trainers then,” he says, adding that the body builders were helping him in return for doing menial jobs for them inside the gym. 
 
Years of struggle followed. He worked as a freelance personal trainer teaching his clients at their homes. “There was not one day when I didn’t go to work and I worked throughout the day,” he says, remembering he had to brave rains and heat both for years to get to places far from where he stayed. 
 
His hard work soon earned him his first celebrity client - Hrithik Roshan. Obstacles, however, remained. Vinod had to beg the posh locality-based gyms to allow him and his client a workout space in return for money, but he was often asked to leave suspecting that his unique fitness training could divert the gym’s members towards him for personal training. Clearly, he was different from other trainers – with better understanding on fitness techniques and the ways to apply them on clients. 
 
“I started my own gym two years back and I invite good freelance trainers to my gym to come with their clients. If they are really good, I advice them to take my client as well. There should be healthy competition,” he says. 
 
His gym now boasts of a huge celeb clientele that he has built over the years. Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra, Ritesh Deshmukh, Genelia D’Souza, John, Hrithik are a few among them. 
 
 
 
“I have gained knowledge from various fitness trainers across the world and I apply all the new techniques on myself before I teach them to my clients,” he says, adding that it has helped him specialize in weight training, functional and body building training, Gazette training for balancing, yoga ashtanga, kalari pattu, parkour, caleshthenic, kick-boxing and animal flow workout. 
 
 
 
A busy man now, he chooses to spend time on celebrities on priority basis. “So if any celeb say John or Hrithik have a movie coming up in another month, I’ll take him on priority,” he says. He is currently preparing John for his upcoming movies Rocky Handsome, Force 2 and Dhishum.
