Protests continued in Brooklyn Center after the police chief said an officer accidentally killed a Black man during a traffic stop: </strong>Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon suggested that a veteran officer, who has worked for the department for 26 years, accidentally killed Daunte Wright during a traffic stop by shooting him with a gun instead of a Taser. Gannon also said his department trains officers to use Tasers on their weak sides, <a href="https://www.insider.com/police-are-trained-to-know-difference-between-taser-and-gun-2021-4">a common practice that is done to prevent exactly what is alleged to have unfolded</a>. New bodycam footage shows <a href="https://www.insider.com/daunte-wright-minnesota-officer-yelled-taser-before-firing-gun-2021-4">the officer, Kimberly Potter, yelling "Taser" several times before firing her gun.</a></p><div type="image" title="brooklyn center april 12 getty" height="1668" width="2500" msid="82047523" hostid="261"></div><p><strong>Protestors and police clashed outside the Brooklyn Center police station:<a href="https://www.startribune.com/protesters-police-clash-at-brooklyn-center-police-station/600045220/"> </a></strong><a href="https://www.startribune.com/protesters-police-clash-at-brooklyn-center-police-station/600045220/">Tensions escalated after the 7 p.m. curfew order by Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz,</a> the Star Tribune reports. Authorities fired tear gas, rubber bullets, and flash grenades. Looters broke into several businesses near the station. Earlier in the day, Biden said that there was "no justification for violence." <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/duante-wright-biden-says-no-justification-violence-protests-police-shooting-2021-4">The president added that he had watched the "fairly graphic" body cam footage.</a></p><ul><li><strong>Walz had ordered a curfew for much of the Minneapolis metro: </strong>Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, whose city is next to Brooklyn Center, declared a state of emergency, as did Mayor Melvin Carter for neighboring St. Paul, the Star Tribune reports. <a href="https://www.insider.com/twins-game-postponed-police-shooting-daunte-wright-2021-4">The Minnesota Twins and Timberwolves postponed their games.</a></li></ul><hr /><p><strong>3. Biden says he's open to negotiating his $2.3 trillion infrastructure plan: </strong>He dismissed the idea that his bipartisan meeting with eight lawmakers <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/biden-bipartisan-infrastructure-meeting-lawmakers-democrat-republican-2021-4">was "window dressing</a>." But crafting a deal might be difficult. One GOP senator told reporters it would <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gop-senator-infrastructure-impossible-sell-roger-wicker-trump-tax-cuts-2021-4">"be an almost impossible sell" for Republicans</a> to support raising the corporate tax rate to help pay for the plan. Biden's plan calls for hiking the corporate rate from 21 to 28%.<a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2021/04/12/biden-infrastructure-congress/"></a></p><hr /><p><strong>4. Battles brewing over the push to make booze-to-go permanent: </strong>More than 30 states allowed alcohol takeout and delivery during the pandemic. 10 Things in Politics: Progressives slam Biden's judge picks

<br /><ul><li>Seven people have died over the past week, while climbing down the world’s tallest mountain, <keyword id="14834" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mount-Everest">Mount Everest</keyword>. </li><li>Climbers are blaming the congestion on the mountain — the ‘<keyword id="3377583" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Death-Zone">death zone</keyword>’ — where people run out of oxygen because they had to wait in line for too long. </li><li>There is only one rope on Nepal side of the summit to guide climbers up and down the summit of Mount Everest.</li></ul><keyword id="71724" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="traffic-congestion">Traffic congestion</keyword> isn’t just a burgeoning problem in India’s <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/mumbai-is-now-the-most-car-congested-city-in-india-report/articleshow/68559891.cms">urban sprawl</a>. It extends to the far reaches of Mount Everest where it’s fatal. <br /><br />The world’s highest peak is racking up casualties at a rate that people are now calling it a ‘death zone.’<br /><br />The most recent casualty of congestion on the world’s highest peak was Anjali Kulkarni. She had trained for six years for her trek, made it to the top but died on the way down because there was a build up of traffic, according to her son who <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2019/05/24/asia/everest-climbers-intl/index.html">spoke</a> to CNN. <br /><br />Overall, seven people have died on <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/most-of-the-himalayan-glaciers-will-melt-by-the-year-2100/articleshow/67849339.cms">Mount Everest</a> last week — not due to the dangers of climbing, but while coming back after conquering the peak. <br /><strong><br />What’s the hold up?</strong><br /><br />

<br /><br />This isn’t the first time that authorities have been called to address congestion issues on the Everest. In 2012, an image by Ralf Dujmovits of the ‘conga line’ at Mount Everest went viral highlighting the extent of overcrowding on the peak.<br /><br />Images of the peak show that there is only a single rope to guide climbers up and down Mount Everest’s summit. <br /><br />It gets all the more difficult as the peak is 8,848 meters above the sea level. Up there, the oxygen is 30% of what is available normally. In most cases, climbers carry oxygen masks and cylinders adding to the load that they have to carry. <br /><br />The longer a climber has to wait in line, higher is the probability of them running out of oxygen. <br /><br />The <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/49-yr-old-sherpa-climbs-mt-everest-for-the-23rd-time-breaks-his-own-record/articleshow/69341983.cms">lure </a>of conquering the world’s highest peak is only growing. And more unprepared adventurers are joining in the fray. <br /><br />The southern side of the summit from Nepal is interesting but more crowded. Traffic congestion on the world’s highest peak is creating a ‘death zone’

He has allegedly already mentioned the figure to <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/eu-wants-up-to-60-billion-exit-fee-in-brexit-negotiations-article-50-2016-11">EU leaders in recent weeks and in a meeting with 27 EU leaders last month.</a></p><p>Another source told Sky News: "We were told €50 billion-€60 billion. We were told informally at sherpa level."</p><p>The figure is believed to be derived from the fact that the <keyword id="6354868" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="UK">UK</keyword> has to keep contributing to the EU budget until the end of 2020, as well as meet "outstanding pensions liabilities, and other payments associated with loan guarantees."</p><p>It has been widely reported that the EU will serve Britain a Brexit bill and the Sky News report only reinforces that the bloc is set on enacting it when Article 50 is triggered. In November, <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/eu-wants-up-to-60-billion-exit-fee-in-brexit-negotiations-article-50-2016-11">t</a><a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/eu-wants-up-to-60-billion-exit-fee-in-brexit-negotiations-article-50-2016-11">he Financial Times was briefed by senior EU negotiators on plans for talks</a> with Britain once Article 50 is triggered, which begins the official process of Britain leaving the 28-nation bloc. Those sources mentioned a hefty Brexit bill too.</p><p>Last month, European negotiators said they are unwilling to discuss transition arrangement or trade deals until a divorce settlement is reached, by mid-2018 at the latest. If Article 50 is triggered early next year, <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/r-uk-pm-says-will-begin-brexit-process-before-german-election-sunday-times-2016-10">as Theresa May has signalled</a>, this would leave Britain with just 6 months to negotiate a transition and trade deal.</p><p>Britain voted for a Brexit by a slim majority on June 23 and, since then, there has been much speculation on when the new prime minister, Theresa May, will trigger Article 50. March 2017 is the current target date but a <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/supreme-court-article-50-appeal-government-faces-gruelling-brexit-questions-2016-12">Supreme Court case will rule in January 2017 whether she will have to get permission from parliament to do this.</a> This could slow things down.</p><p>May says she will not give a "running commentary" on how negotiations are going but she has made it clear in various speeches that her government is prioritising immigration restrictions. <p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Great talent is among the Class of 2014, he says. If you're interested in finding and attracting those individuals, here's how: </span></p>
<p><strong>1. Go where they are, and do what they enjoy.</strong> Sharp, soon-to-be college graduates (the kind you want to hire) attend university job fairs, Berger says. "It's the best bang for their buck and helps them meet employers in a variety of industries." Stand out by hosting a happy hour at a bar or restaurant later that evening. Invite the best candidates you met throughout the job fair, and get to know them in an informal setting. Bring along employees who are engaging and can best represent the company's culture, he suggests.</p>
<p><strong>2. Look beyond the resume. </strong>"Since fresh grads have minimal experience, hiring managers need to consider long-term growth opportunities," he explains. Don't look at the resume as a recap of what they've done but, instead, as an indicator of what they can accomplish. "Were they involved in activities or clubs in college? Did they hold leadership positions? Were they able to balance several activities and a full class load? These are all indicators of a strong work ethic."</p>
<p><strong>3. Find recent grads who would be a great fit culturally. </strong>Identify the personality traits that top employees at your company share, and then look for those in candidates. "Our top performers are fiercely competitive, articulate, organized individuals, so these are three qualities we look for in candidates," Berger says. "Remember, every company's culture is different, so find what personalities excel in the environment. During the interview, get to know the candidate's personality and determine whether they are a culture-fit. This can be done by asking off-the-cuff questions that aren't directly career-related, or by having multiple employees meet with them."</p>
<p>It's more cost effective to invest time upfront finding the right talent and properly training them than it is to deal with the amount of emotional and financial damage that employee turnover will cause the company, Berger adds. "So take the time to find the right hire, and don't limit yourself to the job description. Get creative when thinking about the candidate's future and what could possibly be," he concludes. </p>

This budget-friendly mattress only costs $345 for a queen - but I'd recommend it even for someone who had thousands to spend

<p><span>Lee and his then-girlfriend (now-wife) circled the block for half an hour and almost missed their reservation entirely. Lee was so angry,</span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> he started sketching out early ideas for the company right there at the restaurant.</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span>Luxe, which launched Thursday, is a valet parking app that's almost too good to be true. Before you leave your house, you plug in the address you're going to. The app tracks you as you make your way to your destination, and about 10 minutes before you get there, it matches you with a Luxe valet attendant. </span></span></span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span>Dressed in a bright blue jacket, your attendant meets you at your destination, hops into your car, and asks when you'll need it back and if you want them to run your car through a car wash or to fill your tank up with gas. Then they take your car to one of several lots in the city that Luxe has struck deals with.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Ten minutes before you're ready to leave, you use the app to request the valet to bring your car wherever you are. The most surprising thing about the app is that it costs $5 an hour, or $15 a day. That's ridiculously less expensive than other services. A competitor in this same space, ValetAnywhere, charges $6 an hour, and up to $42 a day, <a href="http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2014/10/23/new-valet-app-luxe-eases-parking-nightmares/">the Wall Street Journal notes</a>. And that's only available in New York City.</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">The parking situation in San Francisco is so dire that apps have been created specifically <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/monkeyparking-backing-down-san-francisco-2014-7#ixzz3H68wul9x">to let people auction off their parking spots</a>, and the San Francisco City Attorney has had to make a statement declaring <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2014/06/23/san-francisco-rent-public-parking-space-monkey-parking-sweetch-parkmondo/11263723/">such auctions illegal</a>. But since so many people commute into San Francisco, they don't have the option of forgoing cars altogether and hailing an Uber or Lyft to get to work, or to wherever else they want to go.</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span>There are a couple of drawbacks that Luxe will surely straighten out as it grows. It's only available in San Francisco for now, though the company says it plans to expand to other cities. And the app is only available on iOS.</span></span></p>

<p>Lee, the CEO and cofounder of Luxe, was <span>most recently the Entrepreneur in Residence at Lightspeed Venture Partners, where he met his cofounder Craig Martin and started developing Luxe a year and a half ago.</span></p>

This New App Lets You Valet Park Your Car In San Francisco For $15 A Day

She prefers the word "curated," the same way Ivy-league schools and top employers select only the best candidates.</p>
<p>The League, which just raised a $2.1 million seed round, is operating with 4,500 beta users in San Francisco. The goal is to make a more selective Tinder that's only for the most interesting, motivated single people in cities around the world. Ultimately, Bradford wants to match tons of power couples.</p>
<p>Right now, the app skews slightly female and its users often have advance degrees. They tend to be in their late 20s; all have been carefully selected by Bradford's team and an are-you-cool-enough algorithm her tech team has built.</p>

All other singles have to wait in a virtual line and hope they're top-notch enough to join The League's elite pool of prospects. Lawyers, doctors and tech executives frequent the app. Many of the beta users have never signed up for a dating service before. Or if they were on Tinder, they weren't please with the experience.</p>
<p>"We want people to think of The League as a little more grown up and tasteful, for young professionals who want to go out for a coffee or a drink and aren't just about hooking up," Bradford says. To get only the most serious singles, Bradford feels it's important to be highly selective rather than target hard-partying college students.</p>
<p>"The best universities curate students. Employers curate their employees. Work and school are the top places where 20-somethings meet each other. So it makes sense for a dating community to [curate] as well," Bradford says.</p>
<p><span>Unlike Hinge and Tinder, The League relies more on LinkedIn than Facebook to determine who's up to snuff.  Bradford says she and her friends frequently LinkedIn-stalk dates before meeting them for coffee to make sure they aren't scary and that their goals align. </span></p>
<p><span>The acceptance algorithm The League uses scans the social networks to ensure applicants are in the right age group and that they are career-oriented. That doesn't mean they have to be Ivy graduates or work for a big-name firm. But they should have accomplished <em>something</em> in their 20s.</span></p>

These people are going after their dreams. They're just interesting, ambitious and doing something they're excited about."</span></p>
<p><span>The League also looks at a user's social graph to see who they know who's already a member of The League. </span></p>
<p>Once accepted, users are only shown a handful of matches per day.They can log back in during "happy hour" at five for a new batch of matches to scan. The League makes sure users aren't shown first connections or current coworkers to minimize awkward virtual encounters.</p>
<p>Bradford, who worked at Salesforce, attended Stanford Graduate school and interned with top venture capital firm Sequoia Capital, was only hoping to raise $750,000. But she found a number of angel investors - including five of her professors at Stanford - were eager to invest. IDG Ventures gave her the first check in June followed by Sherpa Ventures and others. She has a computer science background and was offered a product management role at Facebook, but she opted to launch a startup instead.</p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Bradford is using her millions to grow her team of four and to hire engineers. The League will likely launch in New York City next, where Bradford says there's already a sizeable waitlist. She is also eager to launch in London, where motivated individuals tend to flock. She'd rather tackle the world's most interesting cities than smaller U.S. towns.</span></p>

<p>It is rolling out a better, more sophisticated program to attract partners, called "resellers," to help it sell.</p>
<p>And one big thing it will do is paying its most successful resellers a bigger commission.</p>
<p>Currently, the standard commission it pays is 20%, sources close to Google told the <a href="http://online.wsj.com/articles/google-makes-move-on-microsoft-in-workplace-1417646737">Wall Street Journal</a>. To do the math: at the low end, Google <a href="https://www.google.com/work/apps/business/pricing.html">sells Apps for $50/user/year</a>, which gives the reseller a $10/user/year commission, while Google keeps $40. On the high end, it costs $120/user/year, which equates to $48 commission for year for the reseller while Google keeps $72.</p>
<p>For resellers that sell more, Google will now give them a bigger commission. Plus they will be encouraged to sell other services to Google Apps customers (like support, training, and customization).</p>
<p>This move is one of a series that Google is making to win over Microsoft.</p>
<p>Microsoft has a world-class <keyword id="6356323" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Enterprise">enterprise</keyword> sales force and partner program, and many customers who are locked into complex, multi-year enterprise contracts known as enterprise agreements.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/microsofts-cloud-business-the-good-the-bad-the-ugly-2014-11">As we previously reported</a>, one way that Microsoft has been able to expand its cloud services so rapidly (and keep customers from moving to Google) is by adding them for little or no extra cost into these agreements. It's a "try-it-you'll like-it" strategy and its very successful.</p>
<p>But Google doesn't sell enterprise software or have enterprise agreements.</p>
<p>So it has been smartly building up its salesforce the old fashioned way by signing up more partners. For instance, i<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/google-gets-huge-partner-to-sell-apps-2014-10">n October, it signed a big agreement with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC)</a> to be both a customer and a partner that sells Google Apps for Work to enterprises.</p>
<p>The deal today will help Google attract even more partners, big and small.</p>
<p>The man helping Google build an enterprise partner program is Murali Sitaram, the WSJ reports. Google hired him earlier this year away from Cisco Systems, another company with a huge, powerful enterprise salesforce. </p>
<p>That's also important. A year ago, businesses were telling us that one reason they chose Microsoft over Google was because Google was fairly clueless about enterprise sales. But Google is hiring people and investing in new partner programs to fix that.</p>
<p>Google hasn't publicly released details of the new commission plan. But <a href="http://googleforwork.blogspot.com/">it did post this blog</a> telling resellers all the great new things it plans to do for them.</p>

Google Just Made Another Smart Move In Its War With Microsoft

"I'd really like to know more about what actually takes place in the cleanse. I wonder as I approach the door.</p><p dir="ltr">There is no sign announcing the name of the company. There isn't even a nameplate. There is just a buzzer.</p><p dir="ltr">But if the building is understated, its occupants are not. When it comes to life's positives, the Goop team in London could learn a thing or two from Dhru Purohit.</p><p dir="ltr">This guy is fun. He is all energy, enthusiasm, and commitment.</p><p dir="ltr">"Hey, Tim!" Purohit tells me he is "a Sherpa of sorts." He's a guy who "enjoys guiding people and communities through the world of holistic healing and spiritual living."</p><p dir="ltr">And he believes in the cleanse product the way Napoleon believed in the flexible use of artillery. "I love coffee. I cannot stress this enough. It is central to my very existence. Are you sure I must give it up?"</p><p dir="ltr">"You must give your adrenals a rest," he explains. "And you must remove the dependency. The idea that you need coffee to function, long term, stresses your adrenals. Your adrenals are your energy bank account."</p><p dir="ltr">I will hear the word adrenal - which, I assume, is a reference to the hormones secreted by the adrenal glands - approximately nine thousand times during my interactions with the Clean Program teams.</p><p dir="ltr">Adrenal glands. Adrenal fatigue. Adrenal stress. Adrenal rest.</p><p dir="ltr">Moments later Junger arrives. I will say this about the man: he projects a relaxed energy.
