Former <keyword id="19919639" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bangladesh" source="keywords">Bangladesh</keyword> prime minister <keyword id="66026" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sheikh-Hasina" source="Orion">Sheikh Hasina</keyword>'s plan to travel to London has hit a roadblock over some "uncertainties" and she is unlikely to move out of India for the next couple of days, people familiar with the matter said on Tuesday. <keyword id="20109731" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hasina" source="keywords">Hasina</keyword>, who landed at the Hindon airbase on Monday in a C-130J military transport aircraft hours after resigning as the prime minister, has been shifted to an unspecified location under tight security, they said. The former Bangladesh prime minister, accompanied by her sister Sheikh Rehana, planned to leave for London from India to take temporary refuge but the option is not being pursued now. This is after the <keyword id="19922618" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="UK" source="keywords">UK</keyword> government indicated that she may not get legal protection against any possible probe into the massive violent protests in her country, they said. The Awami League leader planned to travel to London through India and her aides informed Indian authorities about it before she landed in Hindon, the people cited above said. Hasina decided to travel to London as Rehana's daughter Tulip Siddiq is a member of the British Parliament. Tulip is economic secretary to the Treasury and Labour MP for Hampstead and Highgate. In a statement, British foreign secretary David Lammy said in London on Monday that Bangladesh has seen unprecedented levels of violence and tragic loss of life in the last two weeks and people of the country "deserve a full and independent UN-led investigation into the events". The people in the know said Hasina has apprised New Delhi about her possible future steps. It is also learnt that Hasina has family members in Finland as well and that is why she also contemplated leaving for the northern European country. While saying that Hasina's travel plans have hit certain issues and she may stay in the country for the next couple of days, the people also described the situation as dynamic with no definitive path or clarity on the matter. The 76-year-old who ruled the South Asian country with an iron fist for 15 years, resigned as the prime minister following the massive protests that initially began as an agitation against a job quota scheme but weeks later morphed into a mass movement demanding her ouster from power. The controversial quota system provided for 30 per cent reservations in civil services jobs for the families of veterans who fought the 1971 liberation war. Hasina's Awami League retained power in the parliamentary election in January that was boycotted by the opposition parties. The former Bangladesh prime minister left her official residence Ganabhavan in a military chopper to an airbase, the sources said. From the airbase, she flew into Hindon in a C-130 military transport aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force, they said. Sheikh Hasina's plan to travel to UK hits roadblock, may be in India for couple of days

New Delhi, US President <keyword id="99719" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="joe-biden" source="Orion">Joe Biden</keyword> will arrive in New Delhi at around 7 p.m. on Friday evening to attend the two-day G20 Leaders' Summit scheduled to begin on Saturday, officials sources said. This is Biden's first trip to India after taking office as President in January 2021. The President left the US for Delhi on Thursday night (US time). He will follow Covid-19 guidelines set by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) during his visit to India, the White House has said. On Monday, First Lady Jill Biden had tested positive for Covid, following which the President was also tested for the virus for two days. Besides Biden, China's Premier Li Qiang, UAE president Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will also arrive in the national capital on Friday. The Chinese Premier is expected to land by 7.45 p.m. Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Bangaladesh Prime Pinister Sheikh Hasina will also be arriving for the Summit. Moreover, South African president Cyril Ramaphosa has also confirmed his visit to India for the <keyword id="42982" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="g20-summit" source="Orion">G20 summit</keyword>, sources informed. Ahead of the G20 summit, the member nations of the grouping had agreed to grant permanent membership to the African Union, a continental body of 55 member states. With this, the African Union has earned the same status as the European Union. The G20 grouping comprises of Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, the US and the European Union.

"The Leaders Summit on Climate will underscore the urgency, and the economic benefits, of stronger climate action. It will be a key milestone on the road to the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) this November in Glasgow," the White House said. The virtual summit will be live-streamed for people everywhere to watch the proceedings. Biden has made fighting climate change a pillar of both his foreign and domestic policies and one of his first actions on taking office in January was to have the US rejoin the <keyword id="3090201" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Paris-climate-change-agreement">Paris Climate Change Agreement</keyword>. The summit is meant to position Biden, and the US, as the global leader in meeting the climate change challenge and boost his stature. "By the time of the summit, the US will announce an ambitious 2030 emissions target as its new Nationally Determined Contribution under the Paris Agreement for limiting the damage from climate change, the White House said. Biden has asked all US government agencies to come up with ways to cut greenhouse emissions and harness green energy. He appointed former Secretary of State John Kerry to be his international emissary for climate change reflecting the high priority it has on his agenda. He is reaching out to the leaders of China and Russia, who he has harshly criticised over their human rights record and their international rivalry with the US to work together on the climate agenda despite their differences. Biden wants countries around the world to take steps to limit emissions to a level that would limit planetary warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius "in order to stave off the worst impacts of climate change", the White House said. "The President urged leaders to use the Summit as an opportunity to outline how their countries also will contribute to stronger climate ambition." India will be under US pressure to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by being shown as the world's third-highest emitter of greenhouse gases after Beijing and Washington. However, that picture is misleading as on a per capita basis the US emissions were nearly nine times that of India. An Indian emitted only 1.96 tonnes of greenhouse gases in a year, while an American was responsible for 16.56 tonnes. For all the posturing and preaching, Biden or the climate change activists in the US are not going to bring down the US per capita emissions anywhere near the Indian level while demanding that India cut down its emissions overall. India is already promoting green energy to eventually eliminate fossil fuel-generated electricity. It is reportedly working on a goal of achieving a net-zero emissions by 2050. Net-zero emission is achieved by removing all greenhouse gases that are put out by various means ranging from aforestation to technologies to capture the emissions. The Climate Summit will be Modi's second multilateral virtual meeting with Biden. Earlier this month, Biden and Modi were joined by Prime Minister Yoshihide Sugo of Japan and Scott Morrison of Australia at a summit of the Quad.
