<keyword id="19916336" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shashi-Tharoor" source="keywords">Shashi Tharoor</keyword>, who is eyeing a fourth consecutive win from the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat, has declared assets of over Rs 55 crore in his nomination papers. The sitting Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram also declared a total income of over Rs 4.32 crore in the financial year 2022-2023. Giving details of his assets and liabilities in the affidavit filed along with his nomination papers, <keyword id="20304436" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tharoor" source="keywords">Tharoor</keyword> said he has immovable assets of over Rs 49 crore that includes deposits of varying amounts in 19 bank accounts and investments in various bonds, debentures, mutual funds, among others, he has said in his affidavit. His movable assets also include 534 grams of gold worth Rs 32 lakh and Rs 36,000 as cash in hand, according to his affidavit. His immovable assets are worth over Rs 6.75 crore which includes an inherited one-fourth share, now worth Rs 1.56 lakh, in a 2.51 acre agricultural land in Palakkad, a self acquired 10.47 acre land in Thiruvananthapuram that is presently worth over Rs 6.20 crore and his residence in the state capital that is valued now at around Rs 52 lakh. The Congress MP owns two cars, a Maruti Ciaz and a Maruti XL6, the affidavit said. Tharoor, who has a PhD in Law and Diplomacy from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (Tufts University, USA) and a Doctor of Letters in International Affairs (Honorary) from University of Puget Sound, USA, is named as an accused in nine cases across the country. Most of the FIRs against him are for allegedly promoting enmity between different groups and one case in Kerala is for unlawful assembly and rioting. He is also facing four court cases of which two are for defamation -- one each in Kerala and Delhi -- and one is in Kolkata for allegedly promoting enmity between different groups, the affidavit said. In 2014, Tharoor had declared assets of over Rs 23 crore and in 2019, over Rs 35 crore.

So, a probe is necessary into the commercial dealings, propagation of hate content, and connection of Facebook and WhatsApp employees with the BJP," said Congress spokesperson and former Union Minister Ajay Maken said during a virtual press conference, According to him, the bias and alignment of the Facebook India's leadership team with the BJP and RSS is not limited to the Head of Public Policy in India. "There are many others in that leadership team with a close working relationship with the BJP," said Maken. Congress said it had raised the issue with the Facebook team in India. "We met the team of Ankhi Das on May 15 and complained about the manipulative content. The team heard us but did nothing," claimed Rohan Gupta, Congress Social Media head. But for the impairment, the company would have booked a profit. An impairment loss is a recognised reduction in the carrying amount of an asset that is triggered by a decline in its fair value. The same reason also led to the company seeing FY20 net profit halved to Rs 13,445 crore from Rs 26,765 crore a year back. Revenue in the fourth quarter fell to Rs 21,456 crore from Rs 26,759 crore a year earlier. Crude oil production was marginally lower at 5.82 million tonnes in January-March as compared to 5.9 million tonnes in the previous fiscal. Natural gas output fell to 6.04 billion cubic meters from 6.56 bcm in January-March 2019 after demand fell due to the COVID-19-induced lockdown. Shanker said the company's overseas arm <keyword id="46585" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ONGC-Videsh-Ltd">ONGC Videsh Ltd</keyword> too saw its net profit for FY20 fall to Rs 454 crore from Rs 1,682 crore after it also took an impairment loss of around Rs 3,000 crore.

The meeting will be held in <keyword id="6354721" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="parliament">Parliament</keyword> complex where safeguarding of citizens' rights will be discussed in the presence of representatives from Twitter, officials of <keyword id="876331" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-information-and-technology">Ministry of Information and Technology</keyword> and the committee members that include 31 parliamentarians, both from the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. "There is special emphasis on women security in digital space," the schedule of the meeting mentions. In the meeting, the Parliament committee will hear the views of representatives of Twitter followed by evidence of representatives of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on the subject 'Safeguarding citizens' rights and prevention of misuse of social or online news media platforms. The agenda papers for the sitting will be uploaded at Members' e-portal and also e-mailed at sansad.nic mail of the members. Members are requested to attend the sitting as the issue is very sensitive in the backdrop of misuse of social networking sites. The apex child rights body has also directed these four social media entities to submit their report within 10 days, and also warned them to take strict action against them if they fail to report about such posts. In a letter written to these social networking sites, the NCPCR suggested if any person posts any such content, an immediate report should be sent to the commission or law enforcement authorities or state commission with detailed IP address of the user.
