<p><div class="image-container float_right" style="width:480px"><div class="image"><p class="source">Fox News</p></div></div><keyword id="6360415" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="CBS">CBS</keyword> reporter <keyword id="1739099" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Sharyl-Attkisson">Sharyl Attkisson</keyword> spoke at length for the first time Monday night about past recurring intrusions into her computer, telling Fox News' Bill O'Reilly of weird occurrences during which her computers would randomly turn on in the middle of the night.</p>
<p><span>"I was sleeping, so they would come on in the middle of the night, sometimes one right after the other," Attkisson told O'Reilly Monday night. "By the time last fall came around, they would sometimes both be starting up kind of a cacophony of computer music at night in the middle of the night."</span></p>
<p>CBS confirmed last Friday that a breach of Attkisson's computers <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/sharyl-attkisson-computer-intrusion-cbs-benghazi-fast-furious-2013-6" target="_blank">had occurred on "multiple occasions" late last year</a> — a period during which she was covering stories related to the terrorist attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi and the Fast and Furious gun-walking scandal.</p>
<p>"While no malicious code was found, forensic analysis revealed an intruder had executed commands that appeared to involve search and exfiltration of data," CBS spokesperson Sonya McNair said in a statement.</p>
<p>"This party also used sophisticated methods to remove all possible indications of unauthorized activity, and alter system times to cause further confusion."</p>
<p>Attkisson said she has a pretty good idea of who was responsible for the intrusion, but she would not name a specific entity on Monday. She did say, however, that it was "big," and far more important in scope than ordinary phishing or malware. </p>
<p>"<span>This is not as ordinary as ... my old boyfriend trying to look through my files," she said.</span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/sharyl-attkisson-cbs-benghazi-computers-doj-justice-department-2013-5" target="_blank">The Justice Department told Business Insider</a> that it never tried to obtain any information from Attkisson or any of her media devices.</p>
<p>“To our knowledge, the <keyword id="99225" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Justice-Department">Justice Department</keyword> has never ‘compromised’ Ms. At[t]kisson’s computers, or otherwise sought any information from or concerning any telephone, computer, or other media device she may own or use," a Justice Department spokesman said.</p>

CBS Reporter Sharyl Attkisson Describes Some Truly Weird Things That Happened When Her Computer Was Compromised

<p><div class="image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><keyword id="6360415" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="CBS">CBS</keyword></p></div></div></div>A little more than three weeks after the network said it was investigating a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/sharyl-attkisson-benghazi-computer-intrusion-fast-furious-doj-2013-5#ixzz2WCe0WMjj" target="_blank">claim by <span>reporter Sharyl Attkisson alleging an ongoing intrusion into her computers</span></a>, the network said it has confirmed a breach on "multiple occasions" over the past year.</p>
<p><span>Here's the full statement from CBS spokesperson Sonya McNair:</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">“A cyber security firm hired by CBS News has determined through forensic analysis that <keyword id="1739099" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Sharyl-Attkisson">Sharyl Attkisson</keyword>’s computer was accessed by an unauthorized, external, unknown party on multiple occasions late in 2012. Evidence suggests this party performed all access remotely using Attkisson’s accounts.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">While no malicious code was found, forensic analysis revealed an intruder had executed commands that appeared to involve search and exfiltration of data.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">This party also used sophisticated methods to remove all possible indications of unauthorized activity, and alter system times to cause further confusion.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">CBS News is taking steps to identify the responsible party and their method of access.”</p>
<p>Attkisson told WPHT Philadelphia host Chris Stigall last month that her computers have been compromised for "quite a long time."</p>
<p>Attkisson stressed that did not want to make accusations "against a specific entity."  <span>But when asked, she offered comparison to the </span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/james-rosen-leak-investigation-fox-news-reporter-dept-of-justice-2013-5" target="_blank">Justice Department's investigation into Fox News reporter James Rosen</a><span>, a 2009 case that earned renewed scrutiny on Monday.</span></p>
<p>"I don't know details of his — I only know what I've read," Attkisson said. "But I think there could be some relationship between these types of things and what's happened to me."</p>

CBS CONFIRMS: Reporter's Computer Was Compromised On 'Multiple Occasions'

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Donald Trump says November will be his last election bid and that he will not run again in 2028.</li><li>"Hopefully, we're going to be successful," Trump said in an interview that aired on Sunday.</li></ul><p>Former President Donald Trump said he will not consider running again in 2028 if he loses in November.</p><p>Trump made that statement during an <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://fullmeasure.news/newest-videos/september-22-2024-cover-story-donald-trump">interview</a> on an episode of "Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson," which aired on Sunday. </p><p>"If you're not successful this time, do you see yourself running again in four years?" Attkisson, the interviewer, asked Trump:</p><p>"No, I don't," he replied. "I don't see that at all."</p><p>"I think that, hopefully, we're going to be successful," he added.</p><p>The duo also discussed other topics, including immigration and an incident in September where <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-shots-fired-florida-golf-course-2024-9">gunshots were fired near Trump's Florida golf course.</a></p><p>After President Joe Biden <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/joe-biden-dropping-out-presidential-race-2024-7">dropped out of the race</a> in July, Trump, at 78, became the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-age-oldest-candidate-election-2024-7">oldest presidential nominee</a> in the country's history.</p><p>And if he were to run again in November 2028, he would be 82 on election day that year.</p><p>Including this election cycle, Trump has run for the top job four times. He ran for the first time in 2000 with the Reform Party and thrice with the Republican Party in 2016, 2020, and 2024.</p><p>Before Biden dropped out of the race, Trump accused the president of being mentally incapable of running for reelection. He also dared Biden to take a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-challenges-biden-cognitive-test-confuses-name-of-doctor-2024-6">cognitive test</a> after the latter's poor performance in the CNN debate in June.</p><p>Speaking at a Turning Point Action convention in Detroit in June, Trump said of Biden: "He doesn't even know what the word 'inflation' means. I think he should take a cognitive test like I did."</p><p>The former president said he took a cognitive test in 2018 and has since bragged about it, saying he <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-cognitive-test-how-to-take-moca-2020-7">"aced" the "very hard" assessment.</a></p><p>However, the test's creator told <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-bragging-cognitive-test-dementia/2020/07/22/6578e826-cb65-11ea-91f1-28aca4d833a0_story.html">The Washington Post</a> that the assessment was "not meant to measure IQ or intellectual skill in any way" but to detect whether someone has cognitive problems like memory issues.</p><p>Separately, Trump has also called himself a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-78-just-called-himself-fine-brilliant-young-man-2024-7">"fine and brilliant young man"</a> while attacking his significantly younger opponent, 59-year-old Vice President Kamala Harris.</p><p>A representative for Trump did not directly address BI's questions when contacted for comment.</p>

They're the best in the world by far," Trump said during <a href="https://fullmeasure.news/news/politics/trump-one-on-one-09-10-2021">an interview on "Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson" that aired Sunday.</a></p><p>"And they're taking them apart so they can make the exact same equipment. They're very good at that. It's a disgrace."</p><p>Speaking from his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, Trump offered no evidence for his remarks, but when asked if he still received US intelligence briefings, he said: "I get if I want. I get what I want. I hear what's going on."</p><p>"By the way, you don't need intel briefings. All you have to do is read the news or turn on the television," he said.</p><p>A Pentagon spokesperson told Insider, "No Apaches were left behind in Afghanistan."</p><p>In the interview, Trump went on to slam the Biden administration's handing of the Afghanistan pullout.</p><p>"It's the most incompetently handled withdrawal in history. There's never been anything like this, where we gave them $85 billion worth of brand-new, beautiful equipment," he said.</p><p>Trump's reference to the $85 billion worth of equipment is inflated: As <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/08/31/no-taliban-did-not-seize-83-billion-us-weapons/">The Washington Post previously reported</a>, that figure appears to be a high estimate for all spending appropriated for Afghanistan since 2001, and only a fraction of that went to equipment. The value of the equipment left behind in Afghanistan and seized by the Taliban is also unclear.</p><p>The US military said last month that it had <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/us-military-demilitarized-vehicles-and-aircraft-when-it-left-kabul-2021-8">permanently disabled more than 150 vehicles and aircraft</a> before it left so they could "never be used again," though Taliban fighters have been able to capture other arsenal.</p><p>Earlier this month a Times of London journalist reported that the Taliban used <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/taliban-used-us-made-weapons-handcuffs-panjshir-report-2021-9">US-made weapons and handcuffs</a> in their battle for Panjshir, the last Afghan province resisting their rule.</p><p>Republicans, including Trump, have blamed President Joe Biden for the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, while Biden officials <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/us-intelligence-agencies-congress-biden-blame-game-afghanistan-2021-8">have blamed Trump and Afghan forces</a>.</p>

<p>President Donald Trump went on a foreboding tweetstorm on Thursday morning warning of a financial crisis in Puerto Rico's future as the island recovers from the ravages of three straight hurricanes.</p><p>"Puerto Rico survived the Hurricanes, now a financial crisis looms largely of their own making," tweeted Trump, apparently quoting television newscaster Sharyl Attkisson.</p><p><span>"Electric and all infrastructure was disaster before hurricanes," Trump said in a subsequent tweet, also citing a lack of accountability on the island. </span></p><p><span>The president then warned that Puerto Rico's fate laid in the hands of Congress, which is<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ap-house-set-to-pass-365b-for-hurricane-wildfire-relief-2017-10" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> expected to pass a spending bill for hurricane and other disaster recovery on Thursday</a>. He added that the military and FEMA could not stay on the island forever.</span></p><p><span>Trump's tweets echoed the statements he made when he visited the devastated island in September, as he also brought up the island's "<a href="https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/912478274508423168" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">massive debt</a>" and said it <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2017/09/25/trump-says-puerto-rico-in-trouble-after-hurricane-debt-must-be-dealt-with.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">needed to be repaid to Wall Street</a>. </span></p><p><span>In May, Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello moved to file for bankruptcy after the island defaulted on <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/puerto-rico-seeking-title-iii-bankruptcy-for-public-debt-2017-5" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">$70 billion of bonds</a>.</span></p><p><span>Puerto Rico is a US territory with no voting rights. Though its citizens can move freely throughout the country and serve in the US military, they cannot vote and have little ability to sway policies that affect them. Trump tweets foreboding warning about Puerto Rico which was he calls a 'disaster before hurricanes'

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>US Navy Photo</span></p><p class="caption">The US has five aircraft carriers in the Pacific right now, but Trump is playing it cool.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><ul><li><strong>The US Navy technically has a whopping five aircraft carriers in the Pacific, but unlike other times when there were multiple carriers near North Korea, President Donald Trump isn't playing it up as much.</strong></li><li><strong>The US stretched the facts in April to say it had carriers headed to North Korea, but now that there really are carriers inbound, it has been quieter.</strong></li><li><strong>Trump seems more optimistic about a diplomatic solution with North Korea, and his relationship with China could be why.</strong></li></ul><p><br />President Donald Trump headed to South Korea on Tuesday with a measured but resolved message for North Korea, while three US aircraft carriers loomed large in the waters nearby, and <a href="https://news.usni.org/2017/11/06/usni-news-cna-fleet-marine-tracker-nov-6-2017" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">another two operated near the US's West Coast</a>.</p><p>Asked by journalist <a href="http://fullmeasure.news/news/full-episodes/full-measure-november-5-2017" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Sharyl Attkinson on her show, Full Measure,</a> if the carriers' presence was a message to North Korea's Kim Jong Un, Trump was uncharacteristically restrained.</p><p>"<span>I don't know if it's a message,</span>" he said.</p><p>In remarks alongside South Korean President Moon Jae-in while in Seoul, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/trump-south-korea-policy-north-korea-wont-strike-2017-11" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Trump came off measured</a> - though he did point out the three aircraft carriers and a nuclear submarine in the region, saying he hoped North Korea may look to "come to the table and make a deal" in light of the military pressure.</p><p>In April, when North Korean missile tests regularly made headlines and troubled US allies in the region, the US rushed to make rare announcements of Navy deployments by saying two aircraft carriers were inbound when in fact they were <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/uss-carl-vinson-north-korea-deployment-sunda-2017-4" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">hundreds of miles and weeks away</a>.</p><p>At the time, Trump warned he had sent an "<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/r-as-trump-warned-north-korea-his-armada-was-headed-toward-australia-2017-4" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">armada</a>" to North Korea. He also warned that if "<span>China decides to help, that would be great. Asked in the Attkisson interview his thoughts on China, Trump estimated an "<span>extremely high" chance that Chinese President Xi Jinping would help the US against its ally in Pyongyang.</span></p><p>"Ultimately it will all work out," Trump said before a military briefing near Seoul. "It always works out. It has to work out!"</p><p>If by "working out" Trump means avoiding nuclear war, then he's correct - historically it always does work out. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>REUTERS/Jonathan Ernst</span></p><p class="caption">U.S. President Donald Trump and South Korea's President Moon Jae-in shake hands during a meeting at South Korea's presidential Blue House in Seoul, South Korea, November 7, 2017.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><ul><li><strong>President Donald Trump and South Korean President Moon Jae In both indicated they would take steps to boost their missile offense and <keyword id="6354810" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Defense">defense</keyword>.</strong></li><li><strong>But Trump's speech lacked his signature threats and focused more on diplomatic pushes.</strong></li><li><strong>The fiery rhetoric of Trump's early presidency may have faded, giving way to a more coherent, peaceful North Korea policy.</strong></li></ul><p><br />After months of threats flying back and forth between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, a clearer picture of Trump's policy towards Pyongyang has emerged on his trip to Seoul.</p><p>At a joint press conference on Tuesday with South Korea's President Moon Jae In, there was a key <keyword id="6355005" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="News">news</keyword> line about South Korea's missile capability, but also a taste of Trump the diplomat. </p><p>The US and South Korea have long maintained an arms control treaty whereby the payload of Seoul's missiles cannot exceed 1,100 pounds, but now the leaders have scrapped that so Moon can presumably approve the manufacture of more menacing missiles to threaten North Korea with.</p><p>Back at home, Trump had <a href="https://www.nknews.org/2017/11/white-house-requests-4-billion-in-emergency-funds-for-missile-defense/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">just asked Congress for an additional $4 billion</a> in funding for a range of missile defense interceptors for the express purpose of defending against a North Korean missile attack.</p><p>Both leaders affirmed their commitment to continuing the joint military exercises that North Korea considers a rehearsal for the invasion and deposing of Kim, but Trump's speech conspicuously lacked something - his signature threats.</p><p><a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/mike-pence-tells-north-korea-era-of-strategic-patience-is-over-2017-4" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Vice President Mike Pence</a>, <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/tillerson-north-korea-china-japan-south-korea-nuclear-weapons-2017-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Secretary of State Rex Tillerson</a>, and <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/mattis-military-be-ready-options-north-korea-2017-10" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Secretary of Defense Mattis</a> all arguably took a more militaristic line towards Pyongyang than Trump did during their separate trips to South Korea.</p><p>Along with Moon, Trump's speech only briefly touched on military readiness and cooperation and spent more time offering a vision of peace with North Korea.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Lee Jin-man/AP</span></p><p class="caption">South Korean Marine, right and U.S. Marines aim their weapon near amphibious assault vehicles during the U.S.-South Korea joint landing military exercises as a part of the annual joint military exercise Foal Eagle between South Korea and the United States in Pohang, south of Seoul, South Korea, Monday, March 30, 2015.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p><span>While Moon said South Korea is "willing to offer North Korea a bright future," Trump implored the audience to "i</span><span>magine the amazing possibilities for a Korean Peninsula liberated from the threat of nuclear war where all Koreans can enjoy the prosperity that you have enjoyed right here in South Korea."</span></p><p><span>Instead of threatening Pyongyang, Trump called on "</span><span>every responsible nation, including China and Russia," to "</span><span>act with urgency and with great determination</span>" and implement the UN Security Council's resolutions that sanction and isolate North Korea economically. The diplomatic tone of Trump's speech, during which he stuck firmly to his script, could have been lifted from former President Barack Obama in years past. </p><p>Trump's new perspective on North Korea follows a <a href="http://fullmeasure.news/news/full-episodes/full-measure-november-5-2017" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">revealing interview he gave to Sharyl Attkisson</a>, in which he said he doesn't think Pyongyang will strike the US. While Trump touted the US as a "<span>very very strong nation," he put stock in his relationship with China's President Xi Jinping, North Korea's main ally and trading partner.</span></p><p><span>"I do believe that China, where I'm going very soon, and President Xi has been working. I really feel this. He's been working very hard to see if he can do something but we're going to see. Trump signals a shift in South Korea - and it looks like his 'fire and fury' threats were just a bluff

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>Fox News </span></p></div><p></p></div>Former CBS News reporter Sharyl Attkisson, who <a href="http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/sharyl-attkisson-cbs-resigns">resigned last month</a>, discussed leaving her job in <a href="http://www.mediaite.com/tv/sharyl-attkisson-slams-cbs-news-obama-admins-chilling-effect-on-reporting/">an interview on Fox News' "Media Buzz" Sunday</a>. Attkisson said it was "pretty easy" for her to "want to leave" due to the fact there was "nothing left meaningful for me to do" due to what she described as her producers' reluctance to run stories that might anger powerful interests. </p>
<p>"There seems to be a visceral reaction to doing stories that could ruffle feathers, whether it's certain people on the political spectrum or even corporate interests," Attkisson said. "It never runs. Or it dies the death of a thousand cuts, as some of us say. If it's something they don't like or don't want it will be changed and revised and shortened and altered so much that it's a shadow of its former self if it does air."</p>
<p>Attkisson described this as a "broader trend that's happening" rather than an issue unique to CBS News. She attributed this, in part, to "pushback" and "well organized and financed campaigns" reporters and news organizations face when covering stories that anger the government or "conservative slash corporate stories." Attkisson also accused the Obama White House of using harsher tactics against the press than previous administrations that she said were designed to have a "chilling effect" on journalism.</p>
<p>"The press in general seems to be very shy about challenging the administration, as if it's making some sort of political statement rather than just doing our job as watchdogs," explained Attkisson. "I didn't run into that same kind of sentiment as I did in the Obama administration when I covered the Bush administration very aggressively."</p>
<p>While she said some of the timidity among reporters about covering the Obama administration was due to "liberal political bias," Attkisson also blamed the White House for putting unprecedented "pressure" on reporters.</p>
<p>"I think any journalist who's been covering Washington for a few years would agree … that there are-there's pressure coming to bear on journalists for just doing their job in ways that have never come to bear before. Now there've always been tensions, there have always been calls from the White House under any administration I assume, when they don't like a particular story. But it is particularly aggressive under the Obama administration," Attkisson said. "It's a campaign that's very well organized, that's designed to have sort of a chilling effect and to some degree has been somewhat successful in getting broadcast producers who don't really want to deal with the headache of it-why put on these controversial stories that we're going to have to fight people on, when we can fill the broadcast with other perfectly decent stories that don't ruffle the same feathers?"</p>

Ex-CBS News Reporter: Obama Administration Wants To Have 'A Chilling Effect' On The Press

"And if he is, I'm going to be very happy, because when you talk about innocent, I am truly not involved in any collusion with Russia. </p><p>"Believe me, that's the last thing I can think of to be involved in," Trump added. </p><p>Trump's defense team has been cooperating with Mueller's investigation, largely at the urging of Ty Cobb, the white-collar defense attorney leading the president's legal team, who has argued that cooperating with the special counsel will ensure that the investigation concludes quickly and smoothly, and without the president getting caught in the crosshairs.</p><p>But Jay Sekulow, another attorney on Trump's defense team, <a href="https://www.politico.com/story/2017/11/04/mueller-russia-probe-challenges-244538" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">told Politico</a> on Thursday he will lodge a complaint against Mueller or Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein - who appointed Mueller special counsel in May - if Mueller looks too closely at Trump's prior business dealings. </p><p>Trump also addressed issues surrounding Paul Manafort, his former campaign chairman who was indicted on Monday along with his longtime associate, Rick Gates, as part of Mueller's investigation. </p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Elsa/Getty Images</span></p><p class="caption">Former Donald Trump presidential campaign manager Paul Manafort looks on during Game Four of the American League Championship Series at Yankee Stadium on October 17, 2017 in the Bronx borough of New York City.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>"Paul was not there very long," Trump said of Manafort's tenure on the campaign.</p><p>Manafort joined the operation in March 2016 and departed in August, <span>three days after <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/15/us/politics/paul-manafort-ukraine-donald-trump.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">The New York Times reported</a> that Ukraine's pro-Russian Party of Regions had earmarked $12.7 million in undisclosed cash payments for Manafort for his work consulting for the party between 2007 and 2012.</span></p><p><span>Explaining why Manafort left the campaign, Trump said, "Well, I think we found out something about he may be involved with all - with certain nations, and I don't even know exactly what it was in particular."</span></p><p><span>He continued: "But there was a point at which we just felt Paul would be better off, because we don't want to have many potential conflicts."</span></p><p><span>Because of his <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/paul-manafort-russia-ties-2017-10" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">extensive ties to Russia</a>, Manafort has been a subject of red-hot focus from Mueller's team.</span></p><p><span>The former campaign chairman was indicted Monday on 12 counts, including conspiracy against the United States, conspiracy to launder money; unregistered agent of a foreign principal; false and misleading Foreign Agents Registration Act statements; false statements; and seven counts of failure to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts.</span></p><p><span>When Trump first hired Manafort in last March, Manafort was known for having worked as a top consultant to former Ukrainian president and pro-Russian strongman Viktor Yanukovych, and is widely credited with helping him win the election in 2010. Yanukovych is a prominent figure in the Party of Regions. </span></p><p><span>In July, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/19/us/politics/paul-manafort-russia-trump.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">The New York Times reported</a> on financial records Manafort filed in Cyprus that showed he was $17 million in debt to pro-Russian interests when he joined the campaign.</span></p><p>Manafort is also associated with Oleg Deripaska, a wealthy Russian oligarch with known ties to the Kremlin. Deripaska's representatives claimed, in legal complaints filed in the Cayman Islands in 2014, that Manafort had disappeared after Deripaska gave him $19 million to invest in a failed Ukrainian TV venture.</p><p>Earlier this month,<span> </span><a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/10/emails-suggest-manafort-sought-approval-from-putin-ally-deripaska/541677/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">The Atlantic published several emails</a><span> </span>that appeared to show Manafort using his elevated role in the Trump campaign to resolve the dispute with Deripaska, by offering him "private briefings" on the campaign.</p><p>Manafort was also one of three top Trump campaign members, in addition to Jared Kushner and Donald Trump Jr.,  who attended a June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower with a Russian lawyer offering damaging information on then Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. </p><p>Trump said during his interview with Attkisson that no one has informed him that Mueller plans to question him. </p><p>"As far as I'm concerned, I haven't been told that we're under investigation," Trump said. "I'm not under investigation."</p><div><p>Multiple revelations over the last few months appear to contradict the president's claim. Mueller is said to be<span> </span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/stephen-miller-trump-letter-comey-firing-obstruction-of-justice-mueller-russia-investigation-2017-9" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">building an obstruction-of-justice case</a><span> </span>against Trump related to his decision to<span> </span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/james-comey-fired-fbi-trump-2017-5" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">fire James Comey</a> as FBI director in May. At the time, Comey was spearheading the bureau's Russia investigation. Trump says Manafort was let go because of conflicts with 'certain nations,' insists Mueller is not investigating him

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>A false claim&#xa0;Hillary Clinton made&#xa0;while she campaigning for president&#xa0;in 2008 is coming back to haunt her in the 2016 election cycle.<p>The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee said in a&#xa0;speech at George Washington University in March 2008 that she landed "under sniper fire" during a 1996 trip to Bosnia. The war ended in 1995, but tensions within the country were still high.</p><p>"There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base," she said in 2008.</p><p>The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2016/05/23/recalling-hillary-clintons-claim-of-landing-under-sniper-fire-in-bosnia/">debunked this claim</a> days after Clinton made it.</p><p>Old news&#xa0;footage reveals that there <em>was</em> in fact a greeting ceremony at Tuzla Air Base when Clinton landed. She met an 8-year-old Muslim girl who read her a poem, and video of the landing shows Clinton and her daughter, Chelsea, calmly walking away from the plane and then greeting people on the tarmac:</p><p><div></div></p><p>In the footage, Clinton held&#xa0;a bouquet of flowers while she spoke&#xa0;to people gathered on the tarmac. Another shot showed her strolling near the plane with a group of young people.</p><p>Donald Trump has brought up the Bosnia lie on the campaign trail. The likely Republican nominee for president called Clinton a "world-class liar" in a speech on Wednesday, citing&#xa0;her "phony landing in Bosnia where she said she was under attack and the attack turned out to be young girls handing her flowers."</p><p>Clinton's Bosnia story is widely regarded as a lie.&#xa0;</p><p>A&#xa0;CBS News correspondent who was on the trip with Clinton <a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/news/not-the-safest-trip-but-no-sniper-fire/">wrote her own account of it in 2008</a>, after Clinton's speech at George Washington University. She did admit that there were some potential security risks, but acknowledged that it didn't rise to the level of landing under sniper fire.</p><p>Sharyl Attkisson recalled:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"Due to the possibility of sniper fire, our pilots used what we were told are 'assault take-offs and landings.' In short, the climb and descent are very fast, and very steep to minimize exposure to hostile fire on the ground."</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"It's exciting and frightening and, in the midst of it all, wearing our helmets and bulletproof vests, it's easy to imagine we may be narrowly escaping enemy bullets."</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"In reality, we had no known incidents of enemy fire on our aircraft."</p><p>To be fair, however,&#xa0;Attkisson did note in her <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pef5AUt-tic">1996 CBS report</a> that the "frontline outpost" Clinton and Chelsea visited was "one of the most dangerous places where US forces are operating."</p><p>"The president himself never made it this far inside Bosnia when he visited in January," Attkisson said in the report.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><h3>The Clinton campaign's response</h3><p>Immediately after the 2008 speech, Clinton held her ground.</p><p>PolitiFact <a href="http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2008/mar/25/hillary-clinton/video-shows-tarmac-welcome-no-snipers/">noted</a> that when&#xa0;a reporter asked her about the Bosnia trip after the speech, Clinton said: "There was no greeting ceremony, and we basically were told to run to our cars. Now, that is what happened."</p><p>But days later, she&#xa0;<a href="http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/03/25/campaign.wrap/index.html?iref=hpmostpop">admitted that she "misspoke"</a> about the Bosnia visit.</p><p>"I say a lot of things - millions of words a day - so if I misspoke, that was just a misstatement," she told the Philadelphia Daily News' editorial board at the time.</p><p>She continued: "I was told we had to land a certain way, we had to have our bulletproof stuff on because of the threat of sniper fire. I was also told that the greeting ceremony had been moved away from the tarmac but that there was this 8-year-old girl and, I can't, I can't rush by her, I've got to at least greet her - so I greeted her, I took her stuff and then I left. Now that's my memory of it."</p><p>At the time, the&#xa0;Clinton campaign sought to downplay the Bosnia story.</p><p>Then-Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson told reporters in 2008:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"The facts are clear from contemporaneous news accounts that she was entering a potentially dangerous situation. She has written about this before, she has talked about this before and there you have it. Now, is it possible that in the most recent instance in which she discussed this that she misspoke, with regards to the exit from the plane, but there's no question that I hope everyone is clear about this in the reporting, there is no question if you look at these contemporaneous accounts that she was going to a potential combat zone, that it was by the front lines and the first person since Eleanore Roosevelt to do that and she was going into a hostile military environment."</p><p>After the Post ran its original Bosnia fact-check story in 2008, former Clinton speechwriter&#xa0;Lissa Muscatine, who accompanied Clinton on the trip, contacted the newspaper with this statement:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"I was on the plane with then First Lady Hillary Clinton for the trip from Germany into Bosnia in 1996. We were put on a C-17 - a plane capable of steep ascents and descents - precisely because we were flying into what was considered a combat zone. We were issued flak jackets for the final leg because of possible sniper fire near Tuzla. As an additional precaution, the First Lady and Chelsea were moved to the armored cockpit for the descent into Tuzla. We were told that a welcoming ceremony on the tarmac might be canceled because of sniper fire in the hills surrounding the air strip. From Tuzla, Hillary flew to two outposts in Bosnia with gunships escorting her helicopter."</p><p>But the speech at George Washington University wasn't the only time Clinton&#xa0;told of a dangerous trip to Bosnia.</p><p>PolitiFact pointed out that in 2007, she told The Des Moines Register: "We landed in one of those corkscrew landings and ran out because they said there might be sniper fire.
