<ul><li>For the last four months, the residents of Delhi have been either stuck in never-ending traffic or walked out of closed metro stations; or looking for ways to keep their children engaged thanks to unexpected school closures. </li><li>All this is happening in the wake of protests, violence, gunfire and a lot more that is stressing out the national capital. </li><li>Here are all the reasons that Delhi is protesting and suffering for, at the same time. </li></ul>For the last four months, the residents of Delhi have been either stuck in never-ending traffic or walked out of closed metro stations; or looking for ways to keep their children engaged thanks to unexpected school closures. All this is happening in the wake of protests, violence, gunfire and a lot more that is stressing out the national capital. The era of protests started much before the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) issue raged on. In early November, students started it as Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) hiked hostel fee. Later, the winter session of the Parliament has left students and citizens alike taking to the streets protesting the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/india/news/bullets-glass-and-stones-fly-all-over-north-east-delhi-killing-5-and-injuring-100/articleshow/74294273.cms">Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)</a>. Recently, depositors of scam-hit PMC Bank staged a protest outside RBI in Delhi asking the banking regulator to take action. Moreso, the victims who saw their savings vanish also said that they would take inspiration from ‘Shaheen Bagh’ protests. Looks like Delhi is not falling short of issues to take to streets about. While most of the above-mentioned issues are resulting in strife across the country, no city is as affected as Delhi which has become the hotbed. Adding to that, most protests are taking a violent turn, and random incidents of gun shots fired by miscreants is not helping Delhi-ites who are already skittish thanks to pollution spikes and inconsistent weather. The residents are unable to keep up a routine either as untoward incidents have been keeping adults from work and children from schools. There have been at least three such incidences where the schools were shut in Delhi. Two months ago, the massive protests against CAA at the Jamia Millia Islamia University had led to closure of schools in South Delhi. And it hasn’t gotten any better since that day. Even today (February 25), the schools will remain shut in the North East Delhi as the intelligence agencies suspect riots in the area. Hostel fee hike to citizenship row — Delhi has been a hotbed of protests for 4 months now

<ul><li>Scam-hit PMC Bank's depositors from Delhi staged a protest outside the Reserve <keyword id="6355303" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="bank-of-india">bank of India</keyword> to demand that their money be returned.</li><li>The bank has been put under restrictions by the <keyword id="30067" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI">RBI</keyword> after an alleged fraud came to light following which the deposit withdrawal was initially capped at Rs 1,000, causing panic and distress among depositors.</li><li>Subsequently, it was raised to Rs 10,000 and to Rs 50,000 earlier this week by the RBI.</li></ul>Scam-hit PMC Bank's depositors from Delhi staged a protest outside the Reserve bank of India here on Monday to demand that their money be returned. They threatened to go on a hunger strike after March 2 if their money is not returned and their concerns not addressed. Hemant Kumar, who had come from Malviya Nagar, said, "These people will not understand till we carry out a Shaheen Bagh-like protest outside the RBI. If they do not listen to us, we will block the road outside the RBI." Tek Chand, who has an account with Tilak Nagar branch, said, "My wife is a kidney patient and she has to undergo dialysis thrice every month. What am I supposed to do? I have been left helpless due to the situation. it is our hard earned money." Another depositor, <keyword id="8827022" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="tajinder-pal-singh-gujral">Tajinder Pal Singh Gujral</keyword>, a resident of Janakpuri, had deposited Rs 2.5 crore in the bank after he sold his house, a day before the bank shut down in September. "I had sold off my house and the payment from that deal had come into my account with the PMC bank. I had booked another house and given Rs 5 lakh as down payment and was supposed to pay for it from the PMC account. But, now, those Rs 5 lakh are also gone and this money is also stuck. I cannot buy a house or do anything for my business," he said. The bank, over a long period of time, had given over Rs 6,500 crore in loans to HDIL, which is 73 per cent of its total advances, and which has turned sour with a shift in the fortunes of the now bankrupt company. the polls predict AAP to win, the seats under their wing are set to reduce. During the last Delhi Assembly election in 2015, AAP garnered 67 seats with the remaining 3 going to the BJP. The BJP was hoping that the Shaheen Bagh protests would turn the tables in their favour by citing the city’s law and order problem. However, law and order is controlled by the central government and not the local administration. "Your vote to BJP candidate will make Delhi and the country safe and prevent thousands of incidents like Shaheen Bagh. When you press the button (on EVM) on February 8, do so with such anger that its current is felt at Shaheen Bagh," said Union Minister Amit Shah at an election rally. Kejriwal and other AAP members, on the other hand, have focused on day-to-day issues like electricity, education and water. "This is the first time that elections in Delhi have the chief minister asking citizens to cast their vote for him, only if they believe he’s done the work,” says Raghav Chaddha, AAP candidate running from Rajinder Nagar.  These are some of the highlights from the voting day: The polling began at 8 am and will end at 6 pm. The voter turnout has been recorded at 4.33% till 10 am, according to ANI. Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal who cast his vote, along with his family, in the New Delhi constituency made several appeals to the electorate. "You must go to vote. Special appeal to all women - Just like you bear the responsibility of home, the responsibility of the country and Delhi is also on you. All of you ladies must go to vote and also take the men of your house. Make sure to discuss with men about who are the right ones to vote for," Kejriwal said in a tweet this morning in Hindi. Soon after, he expressed anguish over reported attempts to bribe voters. The Election Commission's data shows that they seized ₹57 crore -- ₹12.33 crore cash, ₹2.83 core liquor and ₹42.32 in other assets like narcotics, bullion and jewelry. "Because of our enforcement and the preventive action, the election has passed peacefully," said the Election Commissioner of Delhi. Multiple EVM snags were also reported, including <a href="https://www.news18.com/news/politics/delhi-elections-2020-live-updates-assembly-polls-voting-aap-bjp-congress-shaheen-bagh-arvind-kejriwal-modi-2492067.html" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">one in Kejriwal's constituency</a>.  A police officer who reportedly shot a fellow woman cop before committing suicide casts a tense shadow on the mood in Delhi on voting day, according to a TV channel Mirror Now. Security has been beefed up along the borders of Delhi. Video recordings and vehicles are being checked at 36 points between Ghaziabad and Delhi, <a href="https://www.aninews.in/news/national/general-news/tight-vigil-at-ghaziabad-gurugram-border-ahead-of-polling-today20200208033646/" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">according to an ANI report</a>. Security forces kept a tight watch across the 70 constituencies, with police and paramilitary personnel keeping an "extra vigil" in sensitive areas like Shaheen Bagh, Jamia Nagar and Seelampuri, the IANS reported. The police have deployed around 40,000 security personnel, 19,000 home guards and 190 companies of Central Armed Police Forces to ensure smooth conduct of the polls. 111 years old Kalitara Mandal, the oldest voter of Delhi, cast her vote today. "I've always cast my vote ever since I received my voter ID. I feel happy while casting vote. It gives me power. I wish each &amp; every citizen casts his vote," she reportedly said. At 8:00 pm, the voter turnout was at 57.68%. However, voting is still underway. "Till everyone who was at the polling stations at 6:00pm have voted, the polling will go on at the polling stations concerned," said the Election Commissioner of Delhi.
