<ul><li>Ultratech Cement jumped the most by 3.04%. Nestle rose 1.3%, Power Grid 1.05% and Tata Motors 0.85%.</li><li>Axis Bank fell the most by 1.26%, M&amp;M by 0.99% and Hindustan Unilever by 0.67%.</li><li>Investors will be closely watching the upcoming FOMC meeting on Tuesday. </li></ul> Equity benchmark, the Sensex breached a new milestone of 70,000 points before closing 102 points higher, while <keyword id="6354813" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="nifty" source="Orion">Nifty</keyword> settled just shy of the 21,000 mark on Monday, driven by gains in banking, IT and metal shares. After a gap-up opening, the 30-share index rose to a record intra-day high of 70,057.83 points. Later, it shed some of the gains to close at 69,928.53 points, showing a rise of 102.93 points or 0.15%. As many as 18 Sensex shares closed in the green, 11 declined, and one settled unchanged. The broader Nifty also hit its record trading high of 21,026.10 amid early gains in global markets. The 50-share index gained 27.70 points or 0.13% to settle just below the 21,000 level at 20,997.10, its all-time closing high. Girirajan Murugan, CEO, FundsIndia said, "This robust performance underscores the market's capacity to sustain positive momentum, propelled by key determinants." Among Sensex shares, Ultratech Cement jumped the most by 3.04%. Nestle rose 1.3%, Power Grid 1.05% and Tata Motors 0.85%. Gains in IndusInd Bank, HCL Tech, TCS, Tech Mahindra, NTPC, ITC, JSW Steel and Tata Steel helped the barometer scale a fresh high. Axis Bank fell the most by 1.26%, M&amp;M by 0.99% and Hindustan Unilever by 0.67%. Maruti, Bajaj Finserv, Bharti Airtel, and HDFC Bank and Infosys also declined. "The market crossed 70,000 levels today, while the broader market outperformed the main indices. However, profit booking was evident at higher levels as traders anticipated clues from tomorrow's significant data releases on inflation from the US and India, as well as the IIP," Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services, said. Investors will be closely watching the upcoming FOMC meeting tomorrow for clues about potential future rate cuts while expecting to keep rates the same this time, Nair added. The US Federal Reserve will announce its next move on interest rates on Wednesday. The US government will report on consumer inflation on Tuesday. In the broader market, BSE LargeCap advanced by 0.21%, BSE MidCap by 0.91%, while SmallCap rose by 0.71%. Among sectoral indices, BSE Commodities rose by 1.16%, BSE Metal by 1.1%, BSE Services by 0.95%, BSE Capital Goods by 0.76%, BSE Utilities by 0.67%, and BSE Auto by 0.48%. However, BSE Healthcare dropped 0.38% and Oil &amp; Gas by 0.15%. On the Nifty scaling 21,000 level, Rupak De, Senior Technical analyst at LKP Securities, said, "The Nifty traded mostly sideways as traders stayed on the sidelines at the beginning of a data-packed week. There's a strong resistance at 21,000, with call writers actively building positions. A decisive breakthrough above 21,000 is necessary to resume the uptrend. Until then, it's anticipated that the market will consolidate within a broader range". Meanwhile, Asian markets were mixed. Hong Kong's Hang Seng dropped 0.8%, and the Shanghai Composite added 0.7%, while Tokyo's Nikkei 225 index gained 1.5%. In Europe, Germany's DAX was unchanged, and the CAC 40 in Paris gained 0.2%. In London, the FTSE 100 was down 0.4%. Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) have turned bullish, investing Rs 26,505 crore into domestic equities in the first six trading sessions of December. HGHL Holdings has beneficial interest in 4.27 lakh shares of common stock of Quaker Chemical Corporation/Quaker Houghton, USA, GOCL Corporation said in a stock-exchange filing. Repco Home Finance dips 4% The shares of Repco Home Finance lost 4% during the trade on September 21. The Care Ratings downgraded the rating for the ₹8,645 crore long-term bank facilities of the company to AA-minus with a stable outlook from AA with a negative outlook. RITES down 2% The shares state-owned RITES lost 2% after the board approved buyback of shares amounting up to ₹257 crore. The company said that it would buy shares at a price of ₹265 apiece, which is at a premium of 5% as of 9:45 am. Tata Metaliks lost 3% The shares of Tata Metaliks Limited were trading 3% lower after the company on Friday announced a planned shutdown of its plant. The company's blast furnaces and its associated facilities in Kharagpur plant are undergoing a planned shutdown, in phases, for repair &amp; maintenance including hearth profiling. Future Enterprises trades 2% lower The shares of Kishore Biyani owned Future Enterprises were trading 2% lower after the company defaulted on debt repayment towards the commercial paper. FEL told exchanges that it is unable to service its obligations in respect of the payment of commercial paper after its maturity and the gross principal amount on which the default has occurred on September14, is ₹90 crore. This also moved other <keyword id="9853524" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="future-group-stocks">Future Group stocks</keyword> such as — Future Retail trading 2% lower, Future Lifestyle Fashions trading 3% lower among others. HCL Tech surges 4% The shares of HCL Tech were<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/stock-market/markets/news/indian-tech-companies-hcl-tech-wipro-infosys-tcs-share-price-are-green-today/articleshow/78228700.cms"> trading 4% higher after the company announced its intention to acquire a leading Australian </a>IT, business and management consulting group, DWS Limited. However, the company did not disclose the acquisition sum in its stock-exchange filing. It said the acquisition of DWS would enhance HCL’s contribution to digital initiatives in Australia and New Zealand while strengthening its client portfolio across key industries. Punjab National Bank lost 2% The shares of state-owned PNB was trading 2% lower after the financial regulator of Kazakhstan revoked the licence of its subsidiary, JSC Tengri Bank, on account of failure to observe prudential standards and other mandatory norms. PNB holds around 42% stake in JSC Tengri Bank.
