However, there has been no clear evidence to suggest any of the above. Security beefed up The state of <keyword id="23412" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jammu-Kashmir">Jammu &amp; Kashmir</keyword> has been under President’s rule since December 2018 and now, section 144, which prohibits an assembly of more than 4 people in an area, has been imposed. "As per the order, there shall be no movement of public and all educational institutions shall also remain closed. There will be a complete bar on holding any kind of public meetings or rallies during the period of operation of this order. Identity cards of essential services officials will be treated as movement passes wherever required. However, there is no curfew in place as reported in a section of media," an official statement said as reported by IANS. The government had already deployed an additional paramilitary personnel of 10,000 in the state. Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took to Twitter to write about the imminent house arrest. “I believe I’m being placed under house arrest from midnight tonight &amp; the process has already started for other mainstream leaders. No way of knowing if this is true but if it is then I’ll see all of you on the other side of whatever is in store. Allah save us,” he wrote on Twitter. His rival, and a former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti wrote, “How ironic that elected representatives like us who fought for peace are under house arrest. The world watches as people &amp; their voices are being muzzled in J&amp;K. The same Kashmir that chose a secular democratic India is facing oppression of unimaginable magnitude. Wake up India.” Life comes to a standstill Internet services have been suspended since Sunday night in the state. Meanwhile, education institutions in the state too have been asked to remain shut from today until further orders. Kashmir university exams which were supposed to take place from August 5 to 10 have been postponed, according to IANS. BSNL will be giving satellite phones to media persons at the steep price of ₹1 lakh a piece to file stories from the Valley, said an IANS report. However, according to ANI, schools and colleges will reopen today in Ladakh as restrictions under Section 144 CrPC have not been imposed in the region. "Pakistan army regularly attempts to push terrorists through infiltration and opens up with multitude of weapons to assist them. India, during numerous Directorate of Military Operations-level talks, has maintained the right to respond. Such responses are only against military targets and infiltrating terrorists who are aided by Pakistan Army. <ul><li>Karnataka legislative assembly is set to undergo a floor test after the Supreme Court final verdict came out yesterday. </li><li>Ramalinga Reddy, one of the 13 Congress rebel MLAs’ has decided to take his resignation back and vote in favour of the party. </li><li>The 14 rebel MLAs’ in Mumbai are not showing signs of any melt down and have clearly said that there is no question of stepping back. </li></ul> Karnataka CM H D Kumaraswamy led Congress-JD(S) government got some relief as one of its 15 rebel MLAs has decided to take a U-turn and withdraw his resignation, <a href="https://www.news18.com/news/politics/breather-for-karnataka-govt-as-rebel-congress-mla-agrees-to-withdraw-resignation-vote-for-alliance-2235481.html">according to reports</a>. Congress MLA Ramalinga Reddy, has decided to vote in favour of the HDK government. “I will take part in the assembly session tomorrow and vote in favour of the party. I will continue to remain in the party and serve as MLA,” Reddy told PTI. The move has come hours before the Karnataka assembly is set for a trust vote. In the meanwhile, a Section 144 is imposed around Vidhan Soudha area, where assembly of more than four people is banned, ahead of the vote. Supreme Court in its ruling yesterday in the Karnataka political crisis case had said that the MLAs cannot be forced to take part in the trust vote. While all the rebel MLAs were residing in Mumbai, Reddy was the only one who stayed back in Bengaluru and there were speculations that he may have been approached by the Congress for taking his resignation back. Congress also did not include Reddy’s name in the list of MLAs for disqualification saying he was an ‘exception’. Reddy while giving his resignation on July 6 had said that he is only resigning from the assembly and will continue to be in the party. Now the faith of the Congress-JD(S) alliance government in Karnataka is completely dependent on the trust vote, as the rebel MLAs in Mumbai are showing no sign of melt down. If this continues the HDK government will be reduced to a minority with 102 members after Reddy’s return. The ruling government went into a crisis mode after 16 of its MLAs from both the parties of the coalition government resigned early this months. For the last two weeks, the political crisis in the state raged on, as Speaker of the Assembly refused to accept them, taking them to court. One of the rebel MLAs Roshan Baig was also detained at Bengaluru airport and questioned, as he was stopped from taking a chartered flight, yesterday. He says that "a lot of" his writing on coronavirus and some writing on his time in Downing Street will be free, while other more "recondite" - or concealed - content on Downing Street as well as commentary on the media, Westminster, and the 2019 general election will be for subscribers only.Cummings is also offering his skills, as well as those of his network, to people hoping to win elections, improve their marketing, solve management problems, predict events, establish dashboards, and to hear him talk, saying that "fees slide from zero to lots depending on who you are / your project…"However, the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (<keyword id="11311240" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="acoba">ACOBA</keyword>), which considers applications under the Business Appointment Rules from the most senior civil servants and their special adviser equivalents, has confirmed to Insider that they have not had an application from Cummings.ACOBA's <a href="https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-business-appointments-for-senior-public-servants">form </a>for former civil servants and special advisers includes sections for those establishing an independent consultancy. The <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/governments-business-appointment-rules-for-civil-servants/guidance-on-making-an-application-to-acoba-crown-servants#speaking-engagements-media-appearances-and-newspaper-articles">guidance </a>says that "information about any specific commissions, including speculative commissions if available, will be helpful to the Committee in formulating its view of the consultancy and whether to recommend that any conditions should be applied to it."They would then provide advice on each commission taken up by the consultancy after it was established. By not going to ACOBA, Cummings will avoid them publishing whatever commissions he takes up through his consultancy. Their guidance also refers to individuals entering into a "longer-term arrangement" of speaking engagements, media appearances, and newspaper articles. These individuals, as opposed to those who might carry out an activity as a one-off, must also consult ACOBA prior to taking up the work.Failing to consult ACOBA has few repercussions aside from the publication of a letter from ACOBA's chair to the Cabinet Office and potentially making the chance of receiving an honour, such as a knighthood, or OBE, even lower than it already is.A former senior government official told Insider: "It is little surprise that someone who's reported to have said a 'hard rain' was going to fall on Whitehall is ignoring the requirements the rest of us have to follow. And it's unlikely that much sleep will be lost at the prospect that a breach of the Business Appointment Rules could affect his chance of receiving an honour. "Still, given he told the select committee 'there are all sorts of ways in which you could have greater transparency', it's strange he's not starting with his own post-government roles."Cummings, who gave dramatic testimony in late May to a parliamentary inquiry into lessons learned from the government's response to coronavirus, promised he would submit evidence to back up allegations he made. He is yet to do so. But he says on his Substack that "I will expand here soon on the evidence I gave to MPs and publish evidence to encourage MPs to take responsibility and force such an inquiry to happen as soon as possible".ACOBA's guidance says former special advisers "must not, at any time, draw on any privileged information gained in office" in their post-government activities. Publishing evidence via Substack as opposed to submitting it to the parliamentary inquiry on lessons learned for them to publish will also mean Cummings will not enjoy <a href="https://www.parliament.uk/get-involved/committees/how-do-i-submit-evidence/commons-witness-guide/">the protections of parliamentary privilege</a>.Even if the Committee goes on to publish evidence submitted after publication by Substack, parliamentary privilege will not apply, potentially opening him up to legal action.Parliament's advice to witnesses writing evidence for submission to select committees also says witnesses should not "write more than 3,000 words", which could pose a challenge for Cummings, whose blog posts have been as long as <a href="https://dominiccummings.com/2014/10/30/the-hollow-men-ii-some-reflections-on-westminster-and-whitehall-dysfunction/">22,309 words long</a>, <a href="https://www.tortoisemedia.com/2020/01/24/200124-primary-sources-dominic-cummings/">according to Tortoise</a>.Subscriptions to Cummings's Substack range from £10 a month to £100 a year. The Pad 5’s camera module resembled the 11 Pro’s while the Pad 6’s resembles the Xiaomi 13 Pro. It does look subtle here, given the massive real estate on the back, however there is some wobble to it. Something that totally vanishes once you slap on the case. The review variant with me is in a graphite grey color, which looks nice, but does register fingerprint smudges easily. You can also connect a wired mouse and keyboard with an extension here. I tested it out, and liked it a lot. For that matter, this section of the review is written with the help of a third party wired keyboard. On the right side we have the volume rockers which are tactile and work well. This is a welcoming change, however it still is a LCD panel and not an OLED. The viewing experience on the Xiaomi Pad 6 is more or less the same as the Pad 5. The display can be characterized by its vibrant illumination and ability to render natural colors while preserving intricate details. However, it should be noted that the black levels, particularly in the corners, could be improved, although this is a common characteristic of LCD screens. The Xiaomi Pad 6 does support HDR10+ along with Dolby Atmos across all the compatible apps. So if you are primarily buying the tablet to watch content you are in good hands. The content across all OTT apps bounce out and looks great. However, it’s not just the virtual prowess that stands out; the audio set-up here is also top-notch. The quad speaker set-up fires audio parallelly which delivers room filling audio. Moreover it can switch between 7 stages of refresh rate with a max refresh rate of 144Hz. This basically covers all your needs- gaming to reading on the web. And the responsiveness of the tablet is in fact top tier across all use cases. While the auto-switch does work well, I preferred keeping the tablet on 144Hz throughout my testing. You can also design with it, especially given the battery life here is solid at 150 hours. Moreover a minute of charge can give you 7 hours of battery life. Technically this thing is unkillable if you keep your pad charged up at all times. What comes as a bonus are some add-on features, many of them are useful but some of them are not. Before we move on to that, aesthetically, the MiUi 14 looks great on the tablet, and minimal bloatware is always appreciated. It retains its useability, with minimal effort required to understand how it works. Something crucial for tablet space considering there will be people buying it for their kids to study. Moving to the upgrades now in the UI. Just like last year you can open up to 2 apps together on the screen. While that was great given the screen size, you can now also pin another app on top and move it around. This comes in very handy for workflow management. Example, I maintain a spreadsheet for our Amazon Live Streams. This requires addition, creating tables and referring to video files as well. I could ditch my laptop and maintain this all on the Xiaomi Pad 6. The UI also provides shortcuts to change the display mode, which I used quite often while watching content. A factor that not a lot of people touch upon are the widgets on the Xiaomi Pad 6. My favorites being the calendar and email, cementing further that logistical productivity can be maintained here. Now talking about the add-ons that sit in the middle. They exist, but don’t have an immediate use case. Xiaomi is trying to build an ecosystem here, and the first step is to let their smartphones communicate with the Xiaomi Pad. While we can appreciate the inclusiveness Xiaomi is trying to build here, for now it seems half baked. I hope over time with OTA updates we can see more devices becoming compatible with this. Xiaomi does provide a saving grace with the promise of 3 years of software updates and 5 years of security updates on the device. Performance Xiaomi Pad 6 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC, which admittedly is a 2 year old processor. While the purists can complain about the relevance of the processor here and that it is too old, I tend to disagree. The new processor argument sits well with a smartphone more, compared to a tablet. Mostly because a tablet's use case is comparatively limited. While there can be other reasons for you to not consider the Xiaomi Pad 6, processor should not be one of them. Moving to the actual performance output on the Pad 6, I can put it in one word - optimal. The tablet can easily perform everyday tasks with a breeze. This involves internet surfing, watching content or basic computing. The apps are well optimized and when put together with the hardware do not let you down. The 8GB RAM on board can hold lighter apps for longer durations as well. So spreadsheets, calculators and other utilitarian apps work beautifully. There is a dip in performance when you switch to heavier apps. Games like COD: Mobile and asphalt 9 work decently on the tablet but I did notice heating after a spell of 20 minutes. The gameplay was smooth however, the RAM did struggle to hold them in place while I switched between apps. Internal storage here though is solid at 256GB which means you can download and store content, files and documents without breaking a sweat. And if you want additional storage, you can also hook up your hard drives with the USB-C port. This golden run of the Pad 6 comes to a hault with the absence of the SIM card slot here. Yes, just like last year the tablet will be available in WiFi only variant. This informally suggests that the Pad 6 is only an entertainment device, since utility requires network connectivity as well. Yes, you can take notes, download content, and then sync them up later. But, a dedicated SIM card here would add another layer of utility which I missed dearly. Battery life on the Xiaomi Pad 6 is solid, the 8840 mAh battery can easily last over 2 days with light usage. Over the weekend when I was binge watching content on it, I found myself charging it only at the end of the day. The 33W fast charger in the box takes about 2 and a half hours to charge it, which is good speed for a battery of this size. While I write this review I haven’t had the chance to check out the keyboard case. However this space will be updated as and when I test it. You can convert them in different doc formats as well. While the main camera can shoot 4K videos up to 30fps, the results are underwhelming. Like last year ,the presence of a lens module on the back might give the impression of a dual-camera setup. Furthermore, its performance suffers in low-light conditions. Verdict Xiaomi Pad 6 strongly sets the future for the brand in the tablet space. The upgrades for now are more or less incremental, but given the right situation can be useful. What does stand out is the design and the UI. The smart pen 2 also adds to the experience making it easy to interact with. However, if you don’t want to compromise on the performance then you can look into the OnePlus Pad. And if you are in a creative field then I suggest taking the iPad route.
