SEBI is hiring financial content writer interns with a stipend of ₹45,000 per month

Markets regulator <keyword id="35210" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="sebi">Sebi</keyword> has invited applications for internship programme in its information technology department for one year, a move that will provide an opportunity to interns to work on projects including data analytics. The interns accepted under this programme would be given an opportunity to work on different information technology projects including data analytics, regulatory business processes and reporting, and FinTech at Sebi, the regulator said in a notice. Such projects will provide an opportunity to the interns to apply their skills while gaining exposure to the functioning of the Indian capital markets, it added.
 Sebi said it is "desirous of partnering with institutes based in and around Mumbai for accepting up to 15 interns per year under its Sebi's information technology department internship programme."
 Accordingly, expressions of interest have been invited from eligible institutes to participate in such programme.
 Spelling out the eligibility criteria, Sebi said candidates pursuing full-time MBA or MCA or equivalent degree or diploma of a duration of two years from a recognised institute, besides, those holding a full-time graduate degree in engineering or a BCA degree can apply for it.
 Among other crietria, candidates must have secured minimum 60 per cent aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA (Cumulative Grade Points Average), the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) said.
 The interns will be recruited for a period of one year and will be awarded a stipend of up to Rs 30,000 per month. The candidates need to send their applications to the markets regulator by January 20. SP SHW MKJ

New Delhi, Mar 5 () Capital market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has invited applications for an internship programme in its legal department. The heads of the department or the course coordinators of the respective law schools or universities in-charge of the internship program need to submit applications recommending not more than three applicants from their law school in a given quarter, Sebi said.No individual applications will be accepted, it added."Applications shall be e-mailed to Sebi within the first week (1st-7th) of every quarter for internship commencing in the next quarter," Sebi said.The application for internship for the April 2020 quarter is open till March 20, 2020, it added.Laying down the eligibility criteria, Sebi said, the applicant should be student of a law school or university which is recognised by the Bar Council of India and should have completed at least three years of the five-year LLB course or two years of the three-year LLB course. Besides, students pursuing LLM are also eligible. Among other criteria, the applicant should have secured minimum of 60 per cent aggregate marks or equivalent cumulative grade points average in the previous semester results."A stipend of Rs 10,000 shall be provided upon satisfactory and successful completion of the internship," the regulator said. Sebi invites applications for internship in legal dept

New Delhi, May 14 () Amid the coronavirus outbreak, markets regulator Sebi said the internship programme for its legal department will now be conducted online. During the online internship, candidates are required to make themselves available through medium such as video-conferencing and tele-conferencing at all times during the working hours on weekdays, it said in a statement. "In view of the advisory issued by the government announcing complete ban/partial lock-down on account of COVID-19, the internship program in the legal department of Sebi scheduled to commence in April, 2020 shall now commence from June, 2020...," it said. The watchdog had in March invited applications for the internship programme at its legal department. The commencement of the programme had earlier been postponed to June-July 2020. Head of department or course coordinator of the respective law school or university in-charge of the internship programme were required to submit applications recommending not more than three applicants from their respective institutions in a given quarter. The regulator said applications should be e-mailed to it within the first week (1st-7th) of every quarter for internship commencing in the next quarter. The price band of the IPO is set at ₹560-577 per share. The IPO opened for subscription on October 29 and will end on November 2. Promoter Fino Paytech will sell 52 lakh shares in the IPO. The bank plans to utilise the net proceeds from the fresh issue towards augmenting its tier-I capital base to meet its future capital requirements. Analysts are <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/stock-market/news/fino-payments-bank-ipo-opens-today-heres-what-analysts-are-saying-about-it/articleshow/87346627.cms">positive </a>on the fintech industry and believe they are poised to grow in the future. “Fintech companies' demand is poised for growth on the back of rising internet penetration, higher disposable income, development of technology, low-cost infrastructure, government initiatives like UPI, etc. We believe Fino Bank is one of the key beneficiaries of opportunities in the sector,” said analysts at Religare Broking. The company <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/stock-market/news/fino-payments-bank-will-be-the-first-fintech-startup-in-india-to-get-listed-on-the-bourses-and-it-is-profitable/articleshow/87280457.cms">claims </a>to be the first profitable player in the payments bank space to hit the Indian stock market. Paytm is another payments bank firm in line to get listed soon. Although Paytm has received SEBI’s nod, it is yet to announce dates to launch its initial public offering (IPO). “We are the only scheduled payment bank, which is profitable, we have set up the bank on very low capital,” said Rishi Gupta, managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) of the payment bank. A recent study found that only less than 3% of comments on venture capital blogs focusing on US financial and startup space are by women. While it is commonly understood that the proportion of women in the tech sector is low, this study showed that the engagement of women with the VC industry is even lower. Another recent study found that only about 15% of US companies receiving venture-capital investment included at least one woman in the executive team. If this is the case in a mature startup ecosystem like the US, one can imagine how inadequate the representation of women in a nascent startup ecosystem like the one in India, which is slowly catching up with the emerged markets in terms of cash flow to <keyword id="2783479" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="VC-funded-enterprises">VC-funded enterprises</keyword>. 
 
Of the top VC firms operating in India, Accel Partners India, Bessemer Venture Partner, Blume Ventures, Helion venture Partners, IDG VC India, Inventus Capital, Nexus Venture Partners, Matrix Partners India, SAIF Partners and Sequoia Capital India have no women partners or managing directors while Kalaari Capital and Seedfund have just one each. 
 
Among reasons for the limited representation of women at the top strata of VC firms—and thus the nature of decisions that are made or not made in the country’s startup ecosystem, which will lead to wealth creation and drive growth in the long run—is the fact that the ‘men club’ that leads most VC firms tends to opt for people like them when it comes to recruiting talent. 
 
Secondly, since VC industry in India is at a nascent stage and is not well understood, women perceive VC jobs as something that belong to the area of hardcore finance and number crunching rather than a business model evaluation, and hence tend to stay away from it. 
 
Another reason is the lack of awareness at business school level, which results in very few women taking up internships at VC firms that will help them mould their career in the VC space at an early stage. 
 
Since Indian startup ecosystem is still at its cradle, even those women who would want to take up a corporate career have not got enough opportunity to see how investments in startups would turn around in the long run. Or how innovative ideas can give birth to multi-billion dollar companies in the future, unlike in mature markets like the US where there are ample examples of startups, which were bit players at certain point in time, emerging as corporate behemoths valued at billions of dollars. Mobile-app-based radio taxi aggregator Uber, which raised a recent funding round at a staggering valuation of $40 billion within five years of being launched, is just one example of startups turning billion dollar opportunities for VC firms. 
 
More cash flow to startups owned by women entrepreneurs will happen only when a larger percentage of decision makers at VC firms become women who would want to nurture fellow women as future corporate leaders. 
 
Another drag is lack of concentrated efforts from the government to nurture VC investments and support the startup ecosystem. Despite the ‘Make in India’ campaign, the recent Budget presented a miserly picture when it came to allocation to nurture startups. 
 
However, the silver lining is the new law announced by market regulator SEBI, mandating at least one woman on the board of publicly-listed companies though it exempted SMEs having equity share capital of up to Rs 10 crore and net worth not exceeding Rs 25 crore. 
 
Also, corporate India seems to be slowly awakening to the need for more women in the ranks of the top honchos. The Indian unit of telecom firm Vodafone recently said it increased the percentage of women employees in its workforce to 20 per cent currently from 14 per cent two years ago and will hire even more women across levels and functions. Group Executive Council of the Tata Group too is said to be planning to double the count of women to over 300,000 from 115,000 currently in its 540,000-strong workforce. 
 
One hopes VC players in the country, too, take a cue from the SEBI directive and what larger industry peers like Vodafone and Tata Group are trying to do bring about a change when it comes to ensuring women representation in the country’s investment space.
