Lucknow, The Uttar Pradesh government has put on <keyword id="42048" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Alert">alert</keyword> all law enforcing agencies following the call for a four-hour rail blockage from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday by the <keyword id="3573660" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanyukt">Sanyukt</keyword> <keyword id="404602" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kisan-Sangharsh-Samiti">Kisan Sangharsh Samiti</keyword>. The railway ministry has put the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and <keyword id="6359080" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="government-railway-police">Government Railway Police</keyword> (GRP) on high alert. Senior officials conducted checking at <keyword id="6389854" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="railway-stations">railway stations</keyword> and have identified vulnerable spots. <keyword id="1588424" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Farmer-leaders">Farmer leaders</keyword> have already been warned of legal action if they attempt to stop the trains. In some regions, the railway authorities have sought deployment of provincial armed constabulary (PAC) to stop farmer leaders from occupying the railway tracks. Superintendent of Police GRP, Agra, Mohammad Mushtaq said, "Nobody without a confirmed ticket will be allowed to enter inside the railway stations. Only one entry and exit gates will be operational on Thursday. All the GRP stations have been put on alert. We have sought deployment of PAC around railway stations. Local police will also help in keeping the train operations unaffected." It is suspected that the protesting farmers may try to board trains by taking tickets and then stop the train outside the stations. Additional commandant RPF Dinesh Kumar said, "Special duties have been assigned to stop protesters from occupying railway tracks. Adequate arrangement has been made for deployment of force at all the railway stations. We will not let the movement of trains be affected. Legal action will be taken against those who try to create disturbance." Meanwhile, <keyword id="65264" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharatiya-Kisan-Union">Bharatiya Kisan Union</keyword> (BKU) leader Rajendra Malik said, "As per the scheduled programme, we will stop trains for four hours from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday. We will ensure that no harm is caused to railway property and passengers do not suffer any inconvenience. Drinking water and food packets will be provided to them. We are not afraid of legal action and are prepared to go to jail." Farmers' Protest: 400 farmers from Kerala join protest near Rajasthan-Haryana against farm laws

Prominent faces who were trailing in the first two hours of counting of ballots included five-time former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal from his bastion Lambi; Congress chief ministerial candidate and incumbent Charanjit Singh Channi on both seats -- Chamkaur Sahib, a reserved seat that he has won three consecutive times, and Bhadaur in Barnala district; and Congress state unit chief Navjot Sidhu from Amritsar (East), the seat that came into being after 2012 delimitation and has backed Sidhu and his namesake wife -- Navjot Kaur. He is seen as a nationalist, and widely respected leader of the BJP-led alliance. In the Congress-ruled state, Arvind Kejriwal's AAP is heading for a landslide win, with the Congress, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the BJP far behind. Capt Amarinder Singh left the Congress just ahead of the polls after the Congress unceremoniously removed him from the helm and he floated his own party. A day ahead of the counting of votes, Capt Amarinder Singh exuded full confidence, saying he expected positive verdict by the people of Punjab in favour of his party Punjab Lok Congress and the alliance partners, including the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Shiromani Akali Dal-Samyukt. In his statement, Capt Amarinder Singh had said, "the counting of votes marks the conclusion of the electoral festival of democracy and we are confident of outstanding results". Capt Amarinder Singh said people of Punjab had understood the importance of a "double-engine" government in Punjab which will watch and safeguard the national interest and help in reviving Punjab's economy. "Promising days are ahead for Punjab", he had remarked. In the 2019 parliamentary polls, Capt Amarinder Singh steered his former party -- the Congress to a victory in his ruling Punjab in eight out of 13 Lok Sabha seats despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi's wave across the country. At a public meeting ahead of the polls, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had a special praise for Capt Amarinder Singh that he always rose above partisan considerations when it came to the issues concerning national security. He said when he became the Home Minister in 2019, he felt quite concerned about the security along the Punjab border. "But once I spoke to Capt Amarinder, I felt relaxed," he had recalled at his rally in Patiala town. In 2017, Capt Amarinder Singh, now 80, polled 72,217 votes against nearest rival Balbir Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party, who got just 19,852. Punjab Elections 2022: Former CM Captain Amarinder Singh loses Patiala seat

<keyword id="6358777" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="New-Delhi">New Delhi</keyword>, Even as <keyword id="1588424" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Farmer-leaders">farmer leaders</keyword> are scheduled to hold the sixth round of talks with the Centre in Delhi on Wednesday afternoon, a farmer leader has emphasised that they are still demanding the repeal of the three central farm laws and a law on crop MSPs. Asked about the farmers' agenda for the latest round of talks, All India <keyword id="1389579" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kisan-Sabha">Kisan Sabha</keyword> General Secretary Major Singh Punawal asserted that they would again ask about the process to repeal the three laws and to bring a law on the Minimum Support Price (MSP). "Farmer leaders did not agree to discuss the proposals sent by the government earlier on because it talked about amendments to the new farm laws. But now, parleys will be held on the issues suggested by the farmers. We will like to talk on those issues only," Punawal added. The four issues suggested by farmer leaders for talks are -- the procedure to be followed to repeal the three central farm laws; procedure and provision for legal guarantee for procurement of crops at profitable MSP, as suggested by the <keyword id="1173767" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Farmers-Commission">National Farmers Commission</keyword> for all agricultural commodities; amendments to The Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas Ordinance, 2020, to exclude farmers from penal provisions; and the procedure to withdraw the draft <keyword id="2653620" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Electricity-Amendment-Bill">Electricity Amendment Bill</keyword>, 2020, to protect the interests of farmers. As for the arrangement of food and drinks for farmer leaders at the Vigyan Bhavan, where the talks will begin at 2 pm, the farmer leader asserted that they would make their own arrangements. "It is not important that the government will make arrangements for food for farmer representatives or they will bring their own food. Fellow farmers have been making arrangements for food for those sitting on Delhi roads for the last 35 days, and so, we too will make our own arrangements for food; but the important thing is -- the Union government should listen to the farmers," he remarked. Farmers stick to core demands ahead of sixth round of talks with government today

<keyword id="6358777" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="New-Delhi">New Delhi</keyword>, A delegation of 13 farmer leaders have left the <keyword id="10347936" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="singhu">Singhu</keyword> border, one of the protest sites of the farmers on the outskirts of the national capital, to meet Union Home Minister <keyword id="6355521" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="amit-shah">Amit Shah</keyword> at his residence on Tuesday evening. The meeting is scheduled at 7 p.m. on at Shah's 6A, Krishna Menon Marg residence. Noting that this movement is under the banner of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, <keyword id="10399119" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="haryana-bhartiya-kisan-union">Haryana Bhartiya Kisan Union</keyword> (BKU) President Gurnam Singh Chathuni said in a press briefing at Singh border that the Home Minister contacted the farmers' unions earlier in the day and invited them for the meeting. Referring to Tuesday's Bharat Bandh, Chathuni said that the government should understand that the whole nation joined the call given by the farmers. BKU leader Bhog Singh Maansa said that all the producers and consumers are with them, saying "the delegation meeting with the Home Minister this evening will decide the future plan". The national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), Rakesh Tikait, earlier made the announcement about the farmers' unions' meeting with Shah. The BKU leader made the announcement amid the ongoing Bharat Bandh call being given by the protesting farmers. It is learnt that Tikait, who represents a group of farmers from Wester Uttar Pradesh, received the invite from the government. The meeting will be significant ahead of the sixth round of government-farmers talks scheduled on Wednesday at the Vigyan Bhawan in <keyword id="6494398" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="central-delhi">Central Delhi</keyword>. Earlier, five rounds of talks remained inconclusive with the two sides sticking to their points. One of the farmers' demands was to meet Shah to resolve their issues. "We have a meeting with the Home Minister at 7 p.m. today. We are going to Singhu border now and from there we will go to meet the Home Minister," Tikait said. Tikait is sitting on protest at the Ghazipur border on Delhi-UP route in support of thousands of farmers staging demonstration against the Central government since November 26, demanding to repeal the three farm laws enacted in September during the Monsoon Session of the Parliament.
