<ul><li>Walmart-owned <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> has moved half of its manufacturing and sourcing from China to India. </li><li>The move comes in to put a renewed focus on its private labels. </li><li>These private in-house labels had accounted for 13% of Flipkart’s GMV in 2018.</li></ul>Walmart-owned Flipkart has moved its manufacturing and sourcing from China to India, with increased focus on homegrown labels, as per <a href="https://www.businesstoday.in/current/corporate/flipkart-moves-manufacturing-for-private-labels-to-india-from-china-malaysia/story/354983.html">reports</a>. Flipkart, which has over the years, built private labels like MarQ, Perfect Homes, Billion and Smart-Buy, is looking to source accessories for its labels, from the country itself. “About two years back, almost 100% of our electronics came from China. Today, that number would be less than 50%. When we launched our furniture brand, the entire range was sourced from Malaysia – now that’s down to less than 50%,” Adarsh Menon, head of private label business at Flipkart, told ET. <a href="https://www.cnbctv18.com/retail/flipkart-approaching-electronic-brands-to-boost-private-label-business-says-report-3334891.htm">Flipkart</a> was has been in talks with Sansui, Nokia, Motorola, amongst others to build a private label business in electronics segment. In May, Flipkart <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/companies/flipkart-puts-focus-back-on-private-labels-launches-in-house-sports-brand-119053000338_1.html">launched</a> an in-house sports brand called Adrenex. The brand has over 200 products ranging from sports accessories like cricket or tennis balls to gym equipment. These private labels also been raking in revenue for the company. According to <a href="https://tech.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/internet/non-fashion-private-labels-account-for-13-of-flipkarts-gmv/67187116">reports</a>, six non-fashion private label brands from Flipkart account for 13% of its Gross Merchandise Volume. In 2018, the number of customers who opted for private labels also grew 17-fold, as per the report.

New Delhi, Mar 17 () Shipments of TVs in the Indian market grew by 15 per cent to 15 million units in 2019, which is the highest-ever, according to a report by Counterpoint Research. The growth was driven mainly by budget smart TVs with 32-inch screen size in the sub-USD 150 price band, it added. Though Korean electronics major Samsung continues to lead the overall TV market, the emerging smart TV segment is being cornered by the newer players such as Xiaomi and TCL, the research firm said. Xiaomi is now the leader in the smart TV segment with 40 per cent growth in 2019, Counterpoint said in its latest analysis on the Indian TV market. "Samsung continues to lead the overall TV market but the emerging smart TV segment is being cornered by the newer players," the firm's Research Analyst Debasish Jana said. "Smart TV was the fastest-growing segment up 25 per cent YoY. The smart TV market in India was mostly driven by brands like Xiaomi, Samsung and emerging tail brands such as TCL, Vu and others, which are leveraging their growing channel presence both online and offline to target the new users and upgrade users," he said. Brands like Xiaomi, TCL and VU have been expanding over the last few years taking on market leaders as Samsung. LG, Sony, and Panasonic, Jana said. Popular brands like Samsung, LG and Sony are experiencing a decrease in their non-smart TV business, while small brands such as BPL, Sansui and others are still banking on the non-smart TV segment that mainly caters to the rural market, B2B segment or a second bedroom TV in many cases. According to Senior Analyst Karn Chauhan, India is one of the largest markets in the world with more than 200 million potential TV households and it is still under-penetrated which makes it a more attractive growth market. "Though affordability and value for money are the key growth drivers. The new crop of brands such as Xiaomi, TCL and others are tapping their existing relationships with e-commerce channels such as Flipkart, Amazon, etc to successfully distribute the TVs affordably with a direct-to-consumer model," he said. According to the report, LED TVs still account for more than 90 per cent of the market in India, while rest are from OLED and QLED TV segment. "LG's share has taken a hit due to lower than expected performance in the non-smart TV market," said report. While Sony's overall TV shipments declined 14 per cent, smart TVs on the other hand helped it to post 3 per cent annual growth. "TCL made 110 per cent YoY growth this year. Its smart TV business grew even more with a 186 per cent YoY increase, thanks to its affordable smart TV," it said. Brands like Kodak and Thomson made an "impressive 40 per cent YoY growth" in the market, while VU and BPL have recorded 16 per cent and 35 per cent growth respectively. KRH KRH ABMABM

There are brands that make you feel nostalgic. Among the electronics brands, BPL, Kenstar, Kelvinator, Sansui and Onida evoke the same feeling. The once superstar brands who had once ruled the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/topic/home-appliance">home appliance segment</a> in Indian households are now depending on ecommerce portals for a revival, if not survival. 
 
These brands are lowering their prices to compete against their gigantic rivals like Samsung, LG, Panasonic and many others. BPL has entered into a three-year exclusive sales deal with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/topic/Flipkart">Flipkart </a>to relaunch its brand after almost a decade. Also, three of Videocon's brands - Sansui, Kelvinator and Kenstar - are selling airconditioners exclusively online for lack of pull in retail stores. 
 
Getting a good response from their online sales of washing machine, Onida has decided to sell TVs and ACs online as their presence in brick and mortar stores have become next to negligible. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=amazon">Amazon</a>, Snapdeal and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=paytm">Paytm</a>, too, are emerging as critical online marketplaces for these comeback brands. 
 
"If ecommerce can account for 50% of white goods sales in China, it is possible it will scale up at the same pace in India in the next 4-5 years, which means a huge opportunity to gain back lost share," said Gulu Mirchandani, chairman and managing director of Mirc Electronics, the owner of the Onida brand. "The number of positive reviews we have gained from buyers in ecommerce helps to build the brand and viral marketing." Onida expects to gain a 3-4% share from ecommerce sales in one year, he added. 
A recent study by Google and Forrester Consulting estimates that about 100 million people will make online purchases in India by 2016 and half of them would be new online shoppers from Tier 1 and Tier II cities. 
 
A senior Videocon executive, on condition of anonymity, said that, online is better since competitors such as LG and Samsung are averse to such platforms. "The overhead costs are almost half in online than in retail shops. And there is a large breed of impulse buyers who purchase just on price in online," he said. The executive said it is lucrative to focus more on online for not-so-popular brands because building a sales team and offline distribution is both time consuming and expensive. 
 
For most of these brands, returning to the market or expanding into new categories does not involve high investment. Videocon introduced its three brands into air-conditioners by utilising idle capacity, while others are importing products from China and launching them under their label. 
 
Videocon wants to extend its Sansui, Kenstar and Kelvinator brands into new categories like microwave ovens and televisions only through ecommerce. Maharaja Whiteline, which was recently acquired by Europe's Groupe SEB, is also betting on online sales to revive the brand. 
 
Groupe SEB India chief executive Sunil Wadhwa said the future belongs to ecommerce. "Ecommerce today can reach pin codes where it will be difficult for us to reach through brick-and-mortar stores," he said. The business of Maharaja Whiteline has doubled in the past six months in ecommerce.

The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/heres-how-your-led-tvs-are-made/articleshow/57430748.cms">LED television</a> market in India, which stands at Rs 22,000-crore, is all set for a price war, given that three leading players- <keyword id="6356116" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="LG">LG</keyword>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Samsung-in-consumer-products-segment/articleshow/53261996.cms">Samsung </a>and Sony- have slashed their product prices by as much as 15%, the steepest ever. This has been done keeping in mind the increased competition from smaller brands like Micromax, Intex, TCL, BPL and Sansui.

These smaller players are selling their products at comparatively lower prices, with the difference going up to Rs 10,000. 
 
Affordable prices coupled with the fact that they are online-exclusive or are available both online and offline is drawing customers to these smaller brands.

 While LG, <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword> and <keyword id="6358540" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sony">Sony</keyword> hold around 80% of the Indian <keyword id="4346206" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="led-tv-market">LED TV market</keyword>, these smaller players are slowly and steadily cementing their positions. 
 
"Globally, there has been no decrease in prices of LED televisions, but the big brands are under pressure to reduce prices in India due to sales taking a hit with several brands entering the market and playing on price. This is across television sizes, but the maximum focus is on the 32-42-inch segment, which alone accounts for over 55% of the market," the chief of a leading television maker told ET.

However, these companies deny having dropped prices in the 32-inch segment, and maintain their stand that even if some price correction was done, it was in larger screen sizes as those models are about to reach the end of their lives. 
 
Rishi Tandon, senior GM for home entertainment at LG India, said that even though competition is always good, these three players continue to dominate the TV market. 
 
On the other hand, the head of a durable retail chain said that the availability of over 25 brands in the market has given customers a choice to go for value pricing.

It’s ‘Clash of the Titans’ in LED TV market with three leading companies slashing their prices by 15%

The infighting between telcos and <keyword id="3820" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Ambani">Mukesh Ambani</keyword> led <keyword id="6354504" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Reliance-Jio">Reliance Jio</keyword> is turning out to be the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Telcos-vs-Reliance-Jio-over-Jio-4G-launch-and-free-trial-test/articleshow/53875879.cms">biggest slugfest in the Indian telecom industry</a>. And now <keyword id="2003276" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jio">Jio</keyword> has partnered with 19 smartphone makers lapping up over 3million subscribers even before its commercial launch. This is not going down well with the telcos, we spoke to industry body <keyword id="6373028" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="COAI">COAI</keyword> who is of the view that Jio is playing an unfair game and COAI members (including <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword>, Vodafone, Idea) will no longer extend their interconnect capacity to Jio as they don’t consider Jio as a full fledge telecom operator until they stop their free trial testing and commercially launch their services. 
 Mukesh Ambani announced the testing of Reliance Jio services on December 27th, which incidentally is Dhirubhai Ambani's birth anniversary. The test started with employees only free trial offer but soon it was extended to retail consumers through a bundled offer with Jio's range of Lyf mobiles. And now, Jio’s 90 days free trial offer can be availed with the purchase of 19 smartphone brands including <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword>, LG, Panasonic, ASUS, Gionee, Karbonn, Lava, Xolo, Videocon, Sansui, Sony, Micromax, YU, Alcatel, TCL, Vivo, Intex and HTC. This fast growing Jio’s ‘free service’ partnership with smartphone makers is adding more fire to the never ending war of words with the existing telecom operators in the country over Jio's trial offer. Telecom operators <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Airtel-Vodafone-Ideas-asks-govt-to-stop-Jios-free-data-trial-offer/articleshow/53647221.cms">have written to the top govt offices</a> including the PMO about Jio's three month free trial offer and how it's helping Jio poach their customers. 
 
Now with Jio growing bigger by the day without having launched their services commercially, telcos have taken a stern stand to stop providing any further interconnect capacity to Relaince Jio. This move can potentially hurt Reliance Jio’s voice services as it is already a huge concern for Jio “It would clearly not be prudent for RJIL to contemplate launching of commercial services with this level of call failures” Jio had said. While telecom operators like Airtel, Vodafone, Idea have claimed that they have provided Jio with enough interconnect capacity to meet the usual demand of 15 to 20 million customers and now the industry will not extend the interconnect capacity any further until Jio enters the market as a full-fledge telecom player. With the growing number of Jio subscribers this could lead to a huge concern for Reliance Jio and not to mention yet another spark in this never ending battle.

Telcos pull the plug on call support for Reliance Jio as Jio’s ‘free service’mobile partnerships grow rapidly

Increasing the focus on mobile phones market, Videocon group would start manufacturing mobile handsets at its <keyword id="6360091" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Salt-lake">Salt Lake</keyword> facility near the metropolis in a few months' time, an official of the company said. "We have decided to start manufacturing of Videocon brand mobile handsets at our existing Salt Lake factory. Full production will start just before the Durga Puja festival," <keyword id="75979" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Videocon-Industries">Videocon Industries</keyword> director <keyword id="7053" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anirudh-Dhoot">Anirudh Dhoot</keyword> said. 

	Initially, the company would manufacture around three million handsets, both in the feature and smartphone categories.
 

	Dhoot said that he met West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra this morning and he assured of all help from the state government. 
 "I have also spoken to Chief Minister <keyword id="43868" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mamata-Banerjee">Mamata Banerjee</keyword> over phone and she asked us to make Kolkata the manufacturing hub of Videocon handsets," he told reporters. The approximate investment at Salt Lake facility would be Rs 50 crore and it will create 500 jobs. Dhoot said that Videocon would source components from Chinese vendors and then assemble them here. The designs of the phones would be made in Shanghai and <keyword id="95282" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shenzhen">Shenzhen</keyword> in China. Dhoot said it would start a third design centre at Gurgaon. 

	With a negligible market share, Dhoot said that it would build up volumes first. "We will then go for the market share game," he said. 

	Presently, the company is manufacturing these handsets at its Aurangabad facility under both Videocon and Sansui brands with a production capacity of 3 million units.
