<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Sanjay+Purohit&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Sanjay Purohit</a>, executive vice presidents and former head of consulting at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Infosys&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Infosys</a> has resigned, as confirmed by the company. This makes Purohit the 7th top executive to quit since <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vishal+Sikka&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Vishal Sikka</a> came on board the <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword> headquartered IT giant. 
 Purohit was formerly the head of the <keyword id="2237108" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Edgeverve">Edgeverve</keyword> unit of the company. Later, he was shifted to the US last year to head the company's consulting division. 
 
After <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Manish+Tandon&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Manish Tandon</a>, who was EVP and head of healthcare and lifesciences, Purohit becomes the latest high ranked executive to move out. While IT sector analysts suggest this kind of movement in the top ranks is a matter of concern, <keyword id="281963" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sikka">Sikka</keyword>, brushed away those worries during his meet with analysts last month. 
 
He, at the analyst event also announced that the company was splitting into smaller units with $500-700 million in revenues to be able to grow faster and build management capabilities.

<ul><li><keyword id="18680128" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="qsr-players" source="Orion">QSR players</keyword> that run <keyword id="18680129" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="international-restaurant-brands" source="Orion">international restaurant brands</keyword> like <keyword id="58553" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pizza-hut" source="Orion">Pizza Hut</keyword>, <keyword id="6376241" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="KFC" source="Orion">KFC</keyword>, Domino’s saw a sharp rise in sales growth in FY22 and FY23.</li><li>Analysts call it the delivery delta where app-driven deliveries of fast food rose after partial opening of lockdowns.</li><li>But that has dipped in the last 2-3 quarters due to a lot of various factors including rising competition, inflation which has dipped consumer sentiment. </li></ul>Fast food helped Indians get over the pandemic blues — as pizzas, burgers and fried chicken helped them survive Zoom calls and kept kids away from trouble. The pandemic was a boom time for quick service restaurants (QSRs) that ran brand chains like Domino’s, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, Burger King and more. After partial re-opening, the same store sales growth (SSSG) of most of their operators in India was in the range of 35-60% in FY22 – which extended to FY23 as well due to aggressive store openings as well as massive pick up in delivery orders. “Before the pandemic, the delivery orders were less than 15% (of total sales) for most QSRs with the exception of pizzas, which went up to 25-30% during the pandemic — that’s where delta growth came from,” Karan Taurani, research analyst at Elara Capital. <div type="image" title="annual growth data" msid="103448431" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Source: Business Insider India &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The ‘new-normal habits’ never stuck — and in the last two quarters most operators like Devyani and Sapphire (KFC and Pizza Hut), Jubilant (Domino’s) saw their SSSG slip into the negative zone with the exception of Westlife (McDonalds) which continues to grow, albeit in lower single digits. The sales slipped further between 1-6% for all the players in Q1, with fried chicken and burgers doing slightly better than pizzas. The slowdown in pizza sales started two quarters ahead — in Q3 itself. “The demand trend in the pizza category has remained challenging as seen in the past few quarters – a combination of high base, relatively higher average order value in the pizza category versus other QSR segments,” says a report by J M Financial. <div type="image" title="qsr" msid="103451765" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Source: Business Insider India &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The inflation of competition Apart from a general slowdown, there are structural issues too at play - similar to what <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/corporates/news/small-regional-players-are-increasing-competition-says-hul-ceo/articleshow/102009466.cms">FMCG companies are facing</a>. A report by J M Financial says that both regional and national players are expanding aggressively – denting into their business. “A lot of unorganised competitors who had shut down during the pandemic are now back in business and that’s increasing competition,” says Taurani. With muted sales, only some of the players have been able to take only marginal price hikes in spite of heavy inflation of most of its ingredients in the last few quarters — like cheese and vegetables — leading them to go in for cost controls and better operational management to maintain margins. QSR players, however, believe that this dent in the sentiment is an effect of inflation and most of them expect a reversal in sentiment as well as raw material prices. “High inflation across industries and categories has led to a short-term impact on consumer sentiment and demand in the last few quarters,” said Ravi Jaipuria, the non-executive chairman of Devyani International in the first quarter earnings concall. The company expects demand to pick up from the third quarter onwards. The golden era that wasn’t Sanjay Purohit, group CEO of Sapphire Foods also echoed the same sentiments saying that as inflation stabilises, demand will start to come back. It’s with this confidence, few are moving to change their aggressive store addition plans. Jubilant, Sapphire and Devyani added anywhere between 35-47 new stores during the quarter while Westlife added four new stores. Taurani opines that the number of store additions have slowed down in Q1, and Q2 demand will provide a better picture on the view ahead. “I wouldn't say that the demand situation is very rosy. But in India, the curve is never linear. There will be good quarters, bad quarters, but overall, we are all committed to India's growth and we are all committed to our strategy,” said Saurabh Kalra, managing director of Westlife Foodworld. The QSR sector is a textbook case of the fading effects of the post-pandemic boom on the economy. Most of these companies have chosen to spread their wings in lieu of the fast growth they saw in the last two fiscal years – and it’s yet to be seen if the fast food craze will stand the test of time in an era of higher rentals. Pesch is looking to strengthen Infosys's expertise in large-scale SAP programs. This is a part of CEO <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vishal+Sikka">Vishal Sikka</a>'s broader strategy of strengthening the company's top leadership team. 
 
This appointment comes weeks after the company named ex-Razorfish executive Scott Sorokin as its digital head. This comes at a time when the company is increasingly focusing on newer technologies like cloud computing and analytics. 
 
Pesch has recently served as CEO of arvato Systems Group. He will report to Sanjay Purohit, the global head of Infosys's consulting business. Pesch will also be responsible for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Infosys">Infosys</a>' consulting practice in Europe, Latin America and the Asia Pacific Region, Infosys said.

The Prime Minister on Sunday reprimanded his party members for making inappropriate and inaccurate statements every time they see a camera. In an address telecast on his personal NaMo application, <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/pm-modi-warns-bjp-legislators-against-making-out-of-turn-statements/articleshow/63869881.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">told</a> his party motormouths, “We make mistakes and give 'masala' to the media... as if we are great social scientists and experts to analyse issues... the moment you see a camera you start speaking. So this half-baked stuff is picked up." He also mandated that only designated spokespersons of the party will comment on issues as and when necessary. This slap on the wrist came a day after Union minister <keyword id="6344967" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="santosh-ganwar">Santosh Ganwar</keyword>’s controversial statement that “In a nation as big as India, one or two incidents of rape should not be hyped.” This comment was quick to draw criticism and he, in turn, blamed the media for ‘twist(ing)’ his statement. Here’s a refresher course on some of the other comments made in the recent past by BJP party members that might have nudged the Prime Minister to make the above statement. <ol><li>Tripura Chief Minister <keyword id="3595308" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="biplab-deb">Biplab Deb</keyword> insists Internet existed in the days of Mahabharata. Here’s the <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/internet-existed-in-the-days-of-mahabharata-tripura-cm-biplab-deb/articleshow/63803490.cms?utm_source=AMPusers&amp;utm_medium=fbshare&amp;utm_campaign=socialsharebutton&amp;from=mdr">statement</a>: "India has been using internet since ages. In Mahabharata, Sanjay was blind but he narrated what was happening in the battlefield to Dhritarashtra anyway. This was due to internet and technology. Satellite also existed during that period." A day after this comment was made, the state’s Governor <keyword id="866788" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tathagata-Roy">Tathagata Roy</keyword> backed Biplab Deb’s theory by <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/governor-tathagata-roy-backs-biplabs-mahabharata-remark/articleshow/63823137.cms">saying</a>, “Tripura Chief Minister’s observations about the happenings of the Puranic period are topical. It is virtually impossible to conceive of devices like ‘Divya drishti’, Pushpaka Ratha’, etc without some kind of prototype and study thereon”. </li><li>Junior Education Minister Satyapal Singh rubbishes Darwin’s theory of evolution. Here’s what he had to <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/junior-education-minister-satyapal-singh-says-charles-darwin-wrong-nobody-saw-ape-turn-into-human-1802617">say</a>: "Darwin's theory (of evolution of humans) is scientifically wrong. It needs to change in school and college curriculum. Ever since humans came to Earth, they have always been humans." He went on to say, "Nobody, including our ancestors, have said or written that they ever saw an ape turning into a human being. No book we have read or the tales told to us by our grandparents had any such mention."</li><li>BJP leader S Ve Shekher shared a Facebook post titled “Madurai University, Governor and the Virgin Cheeks of a Girl.” This was in <a href="https://www.thenewsminute.com/article/s-ve-shekher-booked-fb-post-case-against-journos-who-pelted-stones-his-house-79991">response</a> to when the Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit inappropriately patted a woman journalist on the cheek. The rest of the post read: “I feel pity while looking at that woman journalist. She claims she was disturbed because the governor touched her. But when you read her tweets, it is understood that her intention was to target the Governor and Modi. It is actually the governor who has to wash his hands with Phenoyl after touching her. These (TN media persons) are cheap and disgusting creatures. Most people who work in the media in TN are usually Illiterate, cheap and don’t have any general knowledge. This woman is not any different.” </li><li>BJP MP <keyword id="6462806" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vinay-Katiyar">Vinay Katiyar</keyword> believes Muslims have "no business" to be in India. Here’s what he had to <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/muslims-have-no-business-to-be-in-india-bjp-mp-katiyar/articleshow/62823901.cms">say</a>: "Muslims should not be staying in India. 5 times BJP ministers gave "masala" to the media

A few days back, Indian IT giant <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Infosys-relaunches-ESOP/articleshow/53225972.cms">Infosys </a>shocked the stock markets when it posted a weak performance in the first quarter of this fiscal. 
 
Even though the last few quarters saw the company impressing one and all with its <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Infosys-posts-13-4-rise-in-net-profit-misses-estimates/articleshow/53222425.cms">performance</a>, everyone was shocked when it lowered its full-year guidance from April’s 11.5-13.5% April to 10.5-12%. 
 As reported earlier, CEO <keyword id="6369763" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vishal-Sikka">Vishal Sikka</keyword> has said that this poor performance was the result of an <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Infosys-CEO-says-low-performance-in-Q1-a-result-of-execution-failure/articleshow/53265955.cms">execution failure</a>, and he has started to take <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Disappointed-Vishal-Sikka-re-jigs-top-order-after-dismal-Q1-another-key-executive-quits/articleshow/53278154.cms">remedial actions</a> for the same. 
 Sikka has written a detailed e-mail to all <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Infosys-to-allow-employees-to-switch-job-profiles-using-an-internal-platform/articleshow/53005186.cms">employees</a>, announcing the changes and confessing that he himself was "disappointed" with the performance.

Friends, 
 
The first quarter of our new financial year was a revelation in many ways. I view the reaction by the markets and the media as a clear sign of the high standards our company is held to, the expectations we carry, even though everyone understands that a 90 day cycle means little on a long journey. I am disappointed. Disappointed that our revenue performance was not what we could have delivered, but even more so, that this overshadowed the many strong strides we made on executing our strategy. 
 
Our revenue growth of 2.2% to $2501M, included a shortfall in consulting revenue, some declines in package implementations, and small declines in our India business and Finacle. But at the same time, we made great progress in both, renewing our core, AND in the new areas of our business, as well as in our culture of enabling this continual renew-new improvement. Our core business, delivery, under Ravi's great leadership, grew by 3.4%, improved its utilization, lowered its dependence on subcontractors, delivered ever higher benefits from automation, and derived tangible gains from both Zero Distance and Zero Bench. 
 
Equally importantly, if not even more so, our New business grew extremely well, under Sandeep's stewardship. Gains in our newly introduced Mana, as well as in Skava, EDGE, design services and other new areas, accounted for more than a fifth of our growth! On Mohit's watch, large deal wins crossed the $800M mark in TCV, our top 5, top 10 and top 25 clients, all grew faster than the company, the number of our $100M clients grew by 3 to 17, and we added 95 new clients. 
 
Ranga and his amazing finance team, helped improve the overall health of our company's profitability and financials. We are close to 100k Infoscions having been exposed to design-thinking, the number of ZD ideas crossed 11k, and more than 5k of these have been discussed with clients, and the first ones already monetized, thanks to a simple new process Ravi and Ranga have enabled, and ZB now has more than 20k jobs, and, in a year since its launch, this initiative got us to the point that more than 99.5% of the bench colleagues have been engaged, thus helping them deliver value and break the cycle of being on the bench not helping them gthe experience they need to get off the bench. And there were many others. 
 
Reflecting on this on my trip back home, mainly I learnt this: those areas which receive "the flame of our attention" in Jiddu Krishnamurti's words, show progress. And when running an operation as large and complex as ours, we must attend to each cog, every piece of our spectrum, to prevent a few negatives from overshadowing the many great positives. We cannot take our eyes off any important aspect of our business, each area of our large and diverse portfolio of services, products and platforms. In Q2, and beyond, we must accelerate our work in all the key strategic aspects of our work, AND we must address the weaknesses of Q1. 
 
Our stock incentive rewards program, back after 13 years, is a great celebration of our people, our potential, and our commitment to recognize performance, and to have us participate in our collective work, and its outcomes, for Infosys is no more and no less than us, each one of us, and all of us. To help us lead from the front, Pravin and I are making some changes to the team. In Consulting, we had already announced that Rajesh Murthy would take over going forward. 
 
Reporting to Rajesh, Michael Pesch will continue to run Europe, LATAM and APAC, and Kenneth Toombs, who recently joined Infosys, will run North America and India. Sanjay Purohit will join Pravin to work on strategic initiatives in bringing Design Thinking to our clients at scale. Ritika Suri will take over our large deals work, including SGS, from Anup Uppadhayay. Anup has decided to leave Infosys, and I would like to thank him for his tremendous loyalty and service to Infosys over the last 23 years. I have been privileged to work with Anup since I started my journey almost two years ago, and we wish him all the best. 
 
Ritika brings a strong background in sales, particularly in driving large deals for products and platforms, and this is exactly the kind of experience we need to help transform our large client engagements with a focus in our renew-new strategy. M&amp;A will move to Deepak Padaki, while Ritika continues to lead the Innovation Fund and our work with startups. She will continue to report to Ranga and Mohit will continue to sponsor our large deals work. In CIS, we will focus on renewing the existing business and bringing Mana to every aspect of it. 
 
This will be led by Narry (Narsimha Rao) who will take over from Samson David. Narry has been with Infosys for 15 years, and has been running IVS for the last 1.3 years with great success and excellence. Narry and the entire delivery team under Ravi's leadership, will work closely with Navin Budhiraja on the Mana platform. I am very happy that Sudhir Jha has joined us from Google to help with product management and product marketing for Mana and for bringing a product discipline to all our work. 
 
We thank Sam for his great work in growing the infrastructure business over the last few quarters, and his great contributions to Infosys for more than two decades, and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. Our success will be the result of our endeavor. The work of our people. The amazing individuals I meet every single day. I learnt that a million folks wanted to join the Infosys family last year! Our people focus will continue, and will be at the core of all that we do. 
 
My belief in each one of us was redoubled last week, when I spoke to a few PMs at Bangalore. One Infoscion from Chandigarh, with her zeal and her team's proactive ZD ideas for banking, represented the vision of unleashing the innovator within each of us, more than any words can express. But it will take the very best of the very best in us. At a time when the world around us seems ever more influenced by the baser instincts and tendencies, we must bring the best of our intentions, and the best of our imagination, our knowledge and our conviction, to all that we do. 
 
When Krishnamurti spoke of the flame of attention, he spoke of a compassionate attention, to what matters, to the long-term, purposeful, vision, to a fun, rewarding journey along the way. Over the weekend, a friend of mine wrote to me, asking me to "stay healthy, stay in the moment, focused on your actions, even as you work hard to let your achievements outshine your aspirations...". 
 
Here's to a strong Q2, and a strong remainder of the year, one that not only exceeds the high standards we are held to, but does so purposefully, in moving forward on the long haul, one that shows what we as Infoscions are capable of.
