What may perhaps be India's contribution to what's considered the best-selling chocolate bar in the world? Peanuts! The crunchy taste in Snickers will soon be Indian as <keyword id="237779" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mars-Incorporated">Mars Incorporated</keyword>, which makes the $2-billion chocolate bar brand, plans to source peanuts from Saurashtra for markets right from India and Middle East to South East Asia and China. 
 "From a quality perspective, it is very critical to gpeanuts of a particular variety. We are developing it with a couple of vendors based out of Saurashtra," Mars International India <keyword id="6460379" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="general-manager">general manager</keyword> MV Natarajan said. "India can even be the largest sourcing hub for peanuts," he said. 
 Mars currently does a bulk of peanut sourcing for Snickers bars - which come stuffed with peanuts - from <keyword id="5927" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Argentina">Argentina</keyword>. 
 
For companies, low level of aflatoxins, a type of toxin produced by molds that grow on peanuts and corn among others, is the deciding factor. While Mars follows a strict benchmark of 4 parts of aflatoxins per billion (ppb), the Indian benchmark of aflatoxin is around 30 ppb, while it is 10 ppb in the US. 
 Despite India being the world's second-largest <keyword id="6356809" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="producer">producer</keyword> of peanuts with nearly six-million tonnes annually, its share in the global market is restricted to raw peanuts, with negligible contribution in value-added products like peanut butter. 
 
Mars has teamed up with Gujarat-based Khedut Feeds to help farmers in Saurashtra produce high-quality peanuts with global expertise and best practices. 
 "Over the last few years, we have started an initiative - Project Saurashtra - by partnering nearly 40,000 farmers to educate them on growing high quality nuts and have better crop yield," said <keyword id="975823" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tushar-Patel">Tushar Patel</keyword>, <keyword id="2808110" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="director-at-Khedut-Feeds">director at Khedut Feeds</keyword>. Last month, Mars Inc - which also owns M&amp;M's, Twix, Milky Way and Bounty brands - announced it will <keyword id="47916" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="invest">invest</keyword> $160 million to open its first chocolate plant in India. 
 A year ago, <keyword id="2807967" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="AgroTech-Foods-Limited">AgroTech Foods Limited</keyword>, an affiliate of <keyword id="399082" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="ConAgra-Foods-Inc">Conagra Foods Inc</keyword>, announced the opening of its manufacturing unit near Bharuch in Gujarat to start local production of its Sundrop peanut butter for the first time in India. But not many companies are interested, say experts. 
 "Farmers in India hardly use latest infrastructure or technology that helps produce export quality peanuts," said <keyword id="195274" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sanjay-Bajaj">Sanjay Bajaj</keyword>, MD of Ahmedabad-based <keyword id="156468" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bajaj-Food-Products">Bajaj Food Products</keyword>, one of the first peanut butter manufacturer and exporter in the country. "Unless global companies partner them and bring best global practices, it is difficult to match other countries despite low prices in India," he said. 
 
There are other issues, too. Peanuts production is highly vulnerable to rainfall deviations and display huge fluctuation between years. Also, the domestic consumption is huge for peanut oil, and just 5-7 per cent of peanuts get exported to other markets.

Now peanuts for your favourite Mars bars will come from India's Saurashtra

<ul><li>India’s <keyword id="6374783" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="two-wheeler">two-wheeler</keyword> market is characterised by intense competition and sluggish sales. </li><li>However, <keyword id="62356" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="TVS">TVS</keyword> Motor Co has recorded above-average growth. </li><li>This is largely due to the success of its newer models. </li></ul>India’s two-wheeler market isn’t what one would refer to as enticing for new entrants. Sales have been <a href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/companies/liquidity-crunch-higher-insurance-costs-impact-two-wheeler-sales-in-dec/article25891881.ece">subdued</a> in recent months - an indication of rural distress since the bulk of <keyword id="6359451" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="motorcycle">motorcycle</keyword> and <keyword id="6359452" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Scooter">scooter</keyword> sales in the country come from outside urban areas. The market is also extremely heated -- incumbents are trying to outperform each other in terms of prices and product launches. But one company, TVS Motor Co, has overcome these hurdles with relative ease, posting a revenue growth of 26% in the quarter ended December 2018. That is well above the industry average of 8%, according to the company’s FY19 estimates shared over a recent conference call. The uptick is largely attributable to the Chennai-based motorcycle manufacturer’s improved product mix and a surge in export volumes, due in part to the rupee’s weakness and consolidation in markets like The Philippines, which it also serves. The company has also been rolling out a number of new models -- the Radeon motorcycle, the Jupiter Grand and Ntorq scooters as well as the latest version of the Apache motorcycle, which was a play at the growing premium segment. The fuel-efficient Radeon, in particular, was launched to meet the needs of commuters in rural India. Sales of the 110cc motorcycle, which currently clocks in 11,000 units a month, are expected to double, the company said on the analyst call. Priced at around ₹50,000, it is also a value play for cost-conscious commuters between the age of 25 and 35. When compared to other popular mid-sized commuter bikes like the <keyword id="7029" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hero">Hero</keyword> Splendor Plus and <keyword id="6358511" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bajaj">Bajaj</keyword> Platina, which are similarly priced, the Radeon stands out because it’s the latest entrant to the segment, it’s comfortable and boasts a better design, according to Sanjay Sharma, who runs KK Automobiles, a dealership in the Najafgarh on the outskirts of New Delhi. While its other models fare well for different reasons: At ₹86,000, the updated Apache was priced below its immediate competitors in the premium racing category - The Yamaha FZ and <keyword id="20630" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Honda">Honda</keyword> CB Hornet, both of which are a little under ₹1 lakh. Meanwhile, its smart scooter brand, the Ntorq, which was launched last February and is priced at a little over ₹60,000, carries a premium as it also India’s first smart scooter, meaning it allows pairing with smartphones. TVS has reportedly <a href="https://www.carblogindia.com/tvs-ntorq-sales/">sold over 20,000 </a>units of the scooter per month in the second half of the year, according to Car Blog India. Clearly pricing has been a strong selling point for TVS in recent months. However, going forward, it may be difficult to keep these products as affordable as they are. The company has already raised prices by an average of 0.9% between April and December 2018. TVS may have to contend higher raw material prices and marketing costs to stay ahead of rising competition, which could potentially trigger a price hike or crimp margins. A government regulation mandating the installation of an anti-lock braking system that comes into force in April could escalate costs further. In India, TVS Motor has found the sweet spot between product and pricing in a tough market for two-wheelers

 "There is a spike in demand and this will stay for a short time," Tapan Singhel, managing director and CEO of <keyword id="113665" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bajaj-Allianz-General-Insurance">Bajaj Allianz General Insurance</keyword> told the ET. "We have seen a similar spurt in the past " during the Jammu &amp; Kashmir floods, the Uttarakhand floods and the <keyword id="48118" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sikkim">Sikkim</keyword> earthquake." As with all forms of insurance in India, home cover is also sparse. The number of insured homes is estimated at 20 lakh with annual premiums adding up to Rs 2,500 crore. 
 
2011 census report confirmed, India had 33 crore homes, of which only half are of 'pukka' construction, or permanent in nature. 
 There is huge potential in the segment, with average premiums going up to as much as Rs 3 lakh, according to industry estimates. "Suddenly there is a spike in enquires, but conversion into a sale is hampered due to lack of widespread distribution," Sanjay Datta, head of underwriting at <keyword id="144335" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="ICICI-Lombard-General">ICICI Lombard General</keyword> Insurance told the financial daily. 
 
Due to lack of awareness, companies are unable to capture demand. Experts believe, this may change following the devastation in Nepal. 
Industry executives said that those residing in seismic zones need to buy home insurance to protect themselves. 
 Policies pay for damage to property and contents due to natural or man-made calamities, including earthquakes. Rates vary from 70 paise to Rs 1 per cover of Rs 1,000, depending on the area and the frequency. Many banks and <keyword id="100080" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="housing-finance">housing finance</keyword> companies insulate themselves from such possible risks by making home insurance mandatory for mortgage customers.

Nepal earthquake rings the alarm! Don’t just ensure your life but your home too

<keyword id="6354552" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="hyderabad" source="Orion">Hyderabad</keyword> police on Wednesday said that they had busted a Chinese investment fraud of Rs 903 crore and arrested 10 accused, including a Chinese national and a Taiwanese national. The cyber crime cell of the city police busted the fraud during the investigation into a complaint by a citizen he was cheated after he invested Rs 1.6 lakh in an investment app called LOXAM. On investigation, it was found that the money of the complainant was deposited in the bank account of IndusInd Bank in the name of <keyword id="15237026" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="xindai-technologies-pvt-ltd" source="Orion">Xindai Technologies Pvt Ltd</keyword>. Further investigations revealed the scam. Hyderabad Police Commissioner C. V. Anand announced the details of the breakthrough at a news conference here. He said that money changers licensed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to deal in foreign exchange were involved in the scam. Though they were given a license to provide foreign exchange to those travelling abroad, they were found to be violating FEMA. Chinese national Lec alias Li Zhongjun and Taiwanese national Chu Chun-yu have been arrested along with eight others for running a hawala scam from Delhi and Mumbai. Sahil Bajaj, Sunny alias Pankaj, <keyword id="95385" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="virender-singh" source="Orion">Virender Singh</keyword>, Sanjay Yadav, Navneet Kaushik, Mohammad Parvez, Syed Sultan, and Mirza Nadeem Baig are the others arrested. According to the police, Kaushik, a resident of Delhi, had last year obtained RBI licenses for two money exchanges - Ranjan Money Corp Pvt Ltd and <keyword id="15237028" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kds-forex" source="Orion">KDS Forex</keyword> Pvt Ltd. The police investigations revealed that the transactions in the account of Ranjan Money are to the tune of Rs 441 crore in a period of seven months. Transactions of another Rs 462 crore were done by KDS Forex. "It has come to light during the investigation that fraud has been committed through hawala to the extent of 903 crore rupees," Anand said. The Police Commissioner revealed that so far Rs 1.91 crore has been frozen in various bank accounts in this case. When Virender Singh of Pune was arrested as part of the investigation into the complaint from a victim and was interrogated, he revealed that he opened a bank account in the name of Xindai Technologies Pvt Ltd on the orders of Jack (Chinese) and gave the internet banking user name and password of the bank account to Jack. During the investigation, it came to light that the bank account of Betench Networks Pvt Ltd and Xindai Technologies Pvt Ltd share the same phone number. Sanjay Kumar of Delhi opened the account of Betench on the instructions of Lec alias <keyword id="15237027" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="li-zhounjau" source="Orion">Li Zhounjau</keyword> and gave it to Pei and Huan Zhuan in China. Similarly, he opened 15 other bank accounts and sent them to Chu Chun-yu of Taiwan who is temporarily residing in Mumbai and was arrested in Mumbai on Tuesday. He was sending account details, user ID, password and SIM cards to other countries. Sanjay Yadav and Virender Rathor received Rs 1.2 lakh commission per account which was arranged by Lec alias Li Zhounjau. Police found that the money was transferred from the account of Xindai Technologies Pvt Ltd to 38 other bank accounts. It also went to the bank accounts of Hyderabad-based Sultan and Baig. They opened bank current accounts for the sake of commission as per instructions of Parvez. Parvez in turn gave those bank accounts to Imran who resides in Dubai. Imran along with others used these two bank accounts for Investment fraud. A large amount of money from the 38 accounts of Xindai Technologies Pvt Ltd went to Ranjan Money Corp and KDS Forex Pvt Ltd. Kaushik, in turn, was sending the money received in the bank account to the forex exchanges run in the name of international tours and travels. He was converting the money received in rupees to US dollars in cash and giving it to Sahil and Sunny. Police said Sahil and Sunny had joined hands with other fraudsters and transferred the money abroad through hawala. Hyderabad police busts Rs 903 crore Chinese investment fraud

Banda (Uttar Pradesh), More than 1.89 <keyword id="10481084" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="lakh-trees">lakh trees</keyword> have been felled for the construction of the <keyword id="4648165" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bundelkhand-Expressway">Bundelkhand expressway</keyword>, according to an RTI response. The trees were cut in Banda, Chitrakoot, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Aurraiya and Etawah, it said. The 296-km long four-lane road will connect Etawah to Chitrakoot and Uttar Pradesh districts to <keyword id="9319704" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-national-capital-region">the National Capital Region</keyword> via the Yamuna expressway. In a reply to a query by Banda-based activist Kuldeep Shukla, senior manager of the state <keyword id="6356408" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="forest-department">Forest Department</keyword>, Atul Asthana, said that <keyword id="10057938" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-up-expressway-industrial-development-authority">the UP Expressway Industrial Development Authority</keyword> (UPEIDA) has cut 1,89,036 trees for the project. The UPEIDA has planned to plant over 2.70 lakh saplings along the expressway, the RTI added. <keyword id="10481083" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="banda-divisional-forest">Banda Divisional Forest</keyword> Officer Sanjay Agarwal said the trees were cut after permission from the Centre. With a let-up in the rains, water receded in many low-lying areas of Kottayam and Alappuzha districts. There was no red alert warning in any of the state's 14 districts as the intensity of rains had decreased and the affected areas had started limping back to normalcy. The flood situation in Bihar worsened as the water entered fresh areas, affecting over 62,000 more people in 16 districts, taking the number of flood victims to more than 75 lakh, a bulletin by the state Disaster Management Department bulletin said. The number of affected panchayats increased to 1,260 from Monday's 1,240 though that of the flood-hit districts remained at 16. There was no fresh report of deaths in flood-related incidents in the state and the figure stood at 24. The flood situation in Assam deteriorated on Tuesday with nearly 14,000 people across three districts being affected, an official bulletin said. On Monday, over 9,200 persons were suffering due to the deluge across four districts. According to the daily flood report of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), more than 13,800 persons are hit due to floods in Dhemaji, Baksa and Morigaon districts. Dhemaji is the worst-hit district with more than 12,000 people suffering, followed by Baksa (1,000 persons affected) and Morigaon (over 800 people). Meanwhile, the flood situation in Uttar Pradesh improved further as three districts were dropped from the list of affected places, officials said. On Monday, a total of 19 districts in the state were listed as affected by the flood, however, Mahrajganj, Pilibhit and Siddharth Nagar were removed from the list the next day, they said. Sixteen districts in the state are still in the official list of places affected by the floods. According to Relief Commissioner Sanjay Goyal, a total of 517 villages in these 16 districts are affected and 268 have got marooned. Sharda river in Palliakalan (Lakhimpur Kheri) and Ghaghra in Turtipar (Ballia) are flowing above the danger mark, he said, adding that relief and rescue operations are underway. Very heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places in western Uttar Pradesh, while some locations in the eastern part of the state received heavy showers. According to the meteorological department, light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorm, accompanied with lightening, also occurred at some places in the state. Rain or thundershower is very likely at most places in the state from Wednesday to Friday, the MeT department said. Delhi received sporadic light rains as high humidity continued to trouble residents. The Safdarjung Observatory, which provides representative figures for the city, recorded 8.6 mm rainfall till 5:30 pm. The Lodhi Road and Ayanagar weather stations recorded 3.2 mm and 1.3 mm precipitation, respectively. The city recorded a maximum of 36.8 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, the meteorological department said. Earlier, the IMD had predicted 'moderate to heavy rains' in the city from Sunday evening to Wednesday. The IMD has forecast that heavy rainfall is likely in isolated places of coastal Maharashtra, including Mumbai, till August 15. While Mumbai is expected to receive light to moderate showers, neighbouring districts of Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Ratnagiri may witness heavy rains at isolated places, an IMD official said. "A similar forecast has been issued for Pune, Kolhapur and Satara districts as well till August 15. However, districts in North Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha may receive light to moderate rainfall in the same period," the official said. Some parts of Himachal Pradesh received light rainfall, with the MeT Department forecasting rains till August 17. Una and Nahan each received 2 mm rainfall, while Kangra 0.4 mm and Sundernagar 0.3 mm, Shimla MeT Dentre Director Manmohan Singh said. Rains have been forecast in the hill state till Monday. The maximum temperature in the state increased by one to two degrees during the last 24 hours, he added. The highest temperature in the state was recorded in Una at 34 degrees Celsius and the lowest in Keylong at 13 degrees Celsius, Singh said. In Punjab and Haryana, the maximum temperatures hovered close to normal. According to the MeT forecast, rain or thunder showers are likely at many places in Haryana and Punjab over the next two days. After keeping at around 29,000 new cases daily earlier this month, things took a turn for the worse when the country recorded nearly 39,000 cases on November 30. As of November 30,India's Covid-19 tally has breached to 94.31 lakh mark with 38,772 fresh cases, while the recoveries surged to 88,47,600, according to the Union Health Ministry's data updated on Monday. As the crisis grows, state and district authorities have imposed several curbs on local levels. Here’s a quick look at the states that have imposed fresh curfews and restrictions to combat coronavirus in India: Uttar Pradesh: Government issued a fresh set of COVID-19 guidelines The Uttar Pradesh government issued a fresh set of guidelines, authorising the districts’ administration to impose night curfews and local restrictions, based on the assessment of the situation in order to contain the spread of the coronavirus. Tamil Nadu: TN extends COVID-19 restrictions till December 31 Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami on Monday extended the COVID-19 lockdown in the state till December 31 subject to certain relaxations. The government issued guidelines for surveillance, containment and caution for the period of December 1 to December 31. Taking in account the prevailing COVID-19 scenario in the state, it has been decided to force lockdown in containment zones till December 31, according to the order issued on Sunday night. The state government has increased the number of districts from 8 to 13, where the night curfew will be imposed from 8 pm to 6 am. Kota, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Udaipur, Ajmer, Alwar, Bhilwara, Nagaur, Pali, Tonk, Sikara and Ganganagar are the districts where the night curfew has been imposed. Uttarakhand: CM Trivendra Singh Rawat issues new COVID-19 guidelines Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat-led government has come up with fresh guidelines with certain restrictions such as the ceiling of 100 people in marriage, religious, educational and entertainment events. The state earlier allowed up to 200 people for such events. The government has also directed inter-state travellers to register themselves on the smart city website. The government has also made the COVID-19 test mandatory for people coming from Delhi. Punjab: Night curfew from December 1 As the coronavirus cases surged in Punjab, the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has imposed night curfew in all towns and cities from 10 pm to 5 am, starting December 1. The government has also doubled the fine for people flouting COVID-19 rules effective from December 1. The fine for not wearing masks and not following social distancing norms has been hiked from ₹500 to ₹1,000. Gujarat: After Ahmedabad, night curfew in Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot The police commissioner of Ahmedabad, Sanjay Shrivastav, has decided to extend the night curfew in the city till December 11 in view of the prevailing coronavirus situation. The Gujarat government had imposed a night curfew in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot from Saturday 9:00 pm due to a massive rise in the number of coronavirus cases. After the Diwali festivities, there has been a significant rise in the number of COVID cases in Gujarat, especially in the financial capital of the state, Ahmedabad. Many people were seen roaming the markets without adhering the standard precautions. The state authorities had earlier announced the curfew till December 7. “People must remain indoors during this period. People must not stand at public roads, streets or public places or move around on foot or in vehicles during this period," the order said. Himachal Pradesh: Night curfew from 8 pm to 6 am Himachal Pradesh is the latest state to impose night curfew from 8 pm to 6 am in 4 districts — Shimla, Kangra, Mandi and Kullu. The government has ordered schools and colleges to be closed until December 31. The government has also increased the fine for not wearing masks from ₹500 to ₹1,000. Madhya Pradesh: Night curfew in five district The Madhya Pradesh Government has also ordered night curfew in five districts due to rising COVID-19 cases. They have already come into effect in Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Vidisha, and Ratlam districts from Saturday and will be effective from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am every day. Maharashtra: Covid negative report mandatory to enter Maharashtra As Covid-19 cases are on the upswing in several parts of the country, Maharashtra on Monday imposed conditions for all travellers arriving in the state from Gujarat, Goa, Rajasthan and Delhi, starting from Wednesday (November 25). The state has made it compulsory for a RT-PCR negative test report for all people arriving by air, road or rail from these four states. In a notification, the state has said that for people who land here by flights, the RT-PCR test must have been done within 72 hours of their scheduled arrival at the Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Aurangabad airports. For those entering the state by roads, the administrations in the state's border districts will make arrangements for checking symptoms, body temperature and conducting tests before they are permitted onward travel in Maharashtra. Haryana: Khattar shuts down schools, lockdown may not be on the cards After nearly 150 students tested positive, the Haryana government ordered the closure of schools in the state until November 30. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has also appealed to people to adhere to COVID-19 safety guidelines, like wearing masks and maintaining social distancing, in the wake of rising coronavirus cases in the state. "Now, the issue comes whether we should impose another lockdown, which can be done with just one order. But we have seen earlier that markets and factories were closed and how people faced difficulty. We have seen that phase... if at this stage, we can take full precautions to help check the spread of this infection, we must do that," Khattar said.
