New Delhi, Jan 1 () Healthcare major Apollo Hospitals Enterprise is expecting medical tourism to be a promising component of its portfolio going forward, a top company official said.
 To tap into the growing segment, Apollo Hospitals has established international patients division that extended care to around 2 lakh patients in the last fiscal year.
 "At Apollo Hospitals, we have established a robust international patients division which has started seeing positive contribution to the group revenue," Apollo Hospitals Group Joint Managing Director Sangita Reddy told .
 Medical tourism is still nascent in India. It forms a small yet promising component of the Apollo Hospitals Enterprise portfolio, she added.
 "Most of our international patients seek medical treatments for oncology, organ transplant, cardiac procedures, orthopaedics and neurosurgery," Reddy said.
 On giving details, she said, at Apollo Hospitals majority of international patients hail from Pacific Islands, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iraq, Kenya, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Oman, Yemen, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Myanmar and Nepal.
 India is poised to become a preferred medical value travel destination and significantly contribute to the economy, she further said.
 Niti Aayog has identified medical value travel as one of the major growth drivers and a major source of forex earning, she added.
 "Cost effectiveness, focus on advanced medical technology and availability of skilled medical professionals are some of the reasons India is attracting international patients. Indian doctors are delivering care of an international standard at a fraction of the international cost," Reddy said.
 As this dynamic industry evolves, India expects to attract medical travellers from diverse countries and demography, she added.
 On the steps needed to boost the segment, Reddy said: "While the Indian government has eased visa norms, another crucial area that needs attention is financial transaction process for medical travellers. A streamlined, smooth and easy financial transaction process will offer convenience and enhanced experience to the medical travellers."
 The visa on arrival will be a great boost to medical tourism in India, she added.
 "An integrated marketing campaign on the lines of 'Incredible India' will help to communicate India's capabilities and advantages as the preferred medical travel destination, Reddy said. AKT MR SHW

New Delhi, Mar 2 () Industry body Ficci on Monday called for measures to prevent the spread of deadly coronavirus in India, even as two more cases -- one in Delhi and another in Telangana -- were reported in the country.It suggested adoption of infection control practices and strengthening of screening at airports, among others."Till date India has been relatively untouched. The most important part of our strategy must be screening and ensuring that the virus does not enter and parallelly a hospital preparedness strategy is in place," Ficci president Sangita Reddy said.She said this needs to be further backed by mapping of available health-care resources in both public and private sector, for sample testing, quarantine and treatment to prepare for likely spread.The Health Ministry on Monday said two more positive cases of the novel coronavirus -- one in Delhi and another in Telangana -- have been reported."Screening at all ports of entry for travellers from all countries should be immediately strengthened. As private hospitals in India cater to many international patients under Medical Value Travel, active involvement of the private healthcare providers becomes even more critical to develop protocols for screening, isolation and treatment of COVID-19 infected persons," Reddy said. Ficci calls for measures to prevent spread of Coronavirus in India

Bhopal, May 6 () Leading tele-health service provider Apollo TeleHealth's Foundation has launched a toll-free call service Sanjeevani Telehealth Seva for non-COVID patients in Bhopal and Indore. The toll-free call service, launched on April 30, will help patients with non-COVID-19 related issues seek timely medical help at a time when non-emergency OPDs have been suspended by many hospitals, a release from Apollo Hospitals Group said. Bhopal and Indore are the two districts most seriously hit by the COVID-19 pandemic in Madhya Pradesh. The Sanjeevani Telehealth Seva project is being executed along with Bharat Financial Inclusion Limited (recently merged into IndusInd Bank) under their CSR initiative. The toll-free number (1800-103-7378) was immediately flooded with queries, receiving over 200 calls within a few hours of being launched. Over 1,000+ calls have been received till now, with about 9 per cent of them being non-clinical calls and termed generic, it said. With the COVID-19 outbreak hindering the conventional doctor-patient consultations, a large number of patients have been left in the lurch. Many patients living with serious conditions such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes need ongoing treatment and regular medical consultation. Sangita Reddy, joint managing director, Apollo Hospitals Group, said the doctors will proactively help patients to the best of their abilities. Apollo launches Sanjeevani Telehealth Seva for non-COVID patients in Bhopal, Indore

New Delhi, Jan 8 () The government should infuse capital in the economy without worrying about the fiscal deficit target as the GDP growth is estimated to slip to 11-year low of 5 per cent during 2019-20, Industry body Ficci said on Wednesday.
In a statement, Ficci President Sangita Reddy said the 5 per cent GDP growth estimate for the current financial year is on expected lines as the economic expansion in the first half of the year has been moderate.
"We hope to see some momentum in the latter part. In fact, there are nascent signs that point towards an improvement and we need to make sure that these find a more solid footing going ahead," she said.
Observing that the nature of the economy is cyclical, she said it was more important to infuse more capital to re-energise it than worrying about fiscal deficit.
A time-bound plan must be put in place on the mechanics to repair fiscal deficit through different measures, including disinvestment in PSUs, added Reddy.
"Ficci is of the view that the fiscal deficit target could be relaxed to support infusion of Rs 1.5-2 lakh crore in the economy in the coming year, as such fiscal expansion is much needed at the current juncture to give a boost to demand and trigger investments," the chamber president said.
The government aims to restrict the fiscal deficit to 3.3 per cent of the GDP for the financial year ending March 2020.
Referring to the forthcoming Union Budget 2020-21, she said the chamber look forward to government continuing taking steps towards bridging the existing gaps and giving out positive signals to boost the sentiment, consumption and investments.
Apart from providing cheaper loans, more efforts must be made to increase incomes, especially in the rural areas, she suggested.
"This can be achieved through an increase in the quantum of income support under PM-KISAN and expansion of the Direct Benefit Transfer scheme. Steps are also required to boost construction, infrastructure and exports," Reddy said.
The industry body is also of the view that a significant focus on the economies of the future technologies like artificial intelligence, along with added stress on science and innovation, are also critical to add a parallel wave of growth, the statement said. NKD CS NKD CS BAL

Infuse capital in economy without worrying about fiscal deficit: Ficci to govt

New Delhi, Jun 23 () Niti Aayog member V K Paul on Tuesday said the public health approach should be implemented effectively on the ground by the government, communities and all concerned stakeholders to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. Addressing a webinar centred on a theme 'Public Health For Healthy Life' organised by industry body FICCI, Paul further said that surveillance, containment and disease control should be the priority. Preparedness on the part of hospitals for assured access to ambulance and care is also required, he said, adding that home care should be reinforced and made more efficient by following prescribed protocols, along with safety of elderly and other people at home. "We must look at the positive stories of COVID control. The public health approach to contain the disease through trace, test, isolate, quarantine and timely referral must be implemented on the ground effectively by the government, civil agencies, communities and all concerned stakeholders," he said. Paul, who is heading an Empowered Group on medical equipment and management plan to tackle coronavirus outbreak, emphasised on the need to protect the vulnerable population like people with co-morbidities and improve immunity through India's time-tested traditional system of medicine. Referring to the role of community participation, he said young people must be involved in community participation for the containment of the disease. Paul further said this is a historical time for telemedicine, and India must promote it to keep the doctor-patient relationship and trust intact. Telemedicine will also help India in addressing the non-COVID patients, given the high burden of non-communicable diseases and other infectious diseases in the country, the Niti Aayog member pointed out. Need effective public health approach on ground to control COVID-19, says Niti member

New Delhi, Jan 14 () New Ficci President Sangita Reddy on Tuesday urged the government not to worry too much about the fiscal deficit and try to pump the economy by increasing investments to arrest slowdown and accelerate growth.
"We need to infuse capital into the economy. The fact is that there is a slowdown of the GDP but to pump prime economy, adequate capital is really the need of the hour and therefore the preposition which we put forward is that we should not worry for a small expansion in fiscal deficit," she said.
She said that the government should find a mechanism to infuse Rs 1.5 to Rs 2 lakh crore into the economy as it would help spurring consumption.
With the slowdown in economic growth, the government will face difficulty in adhering to the fiscal deficit road map laid down in the FRBM Act.
"With the increased consumption or purchasing power of people, investments and the overall sentiment of the corporate India will improve and this will create a virtuous cycle, which grows the GDP," she told .
When asked whether the government has enough fiscal space to infuse money into the system, Reddy said the government has the space because the fiscal deficit is still under control.
"One mechanism to do this would be to raise money from the RBI," she said, adding the government should also simultaneously pursue disinvestment programme in a time-bound manner.
The government aims to restrict the fiscal deficit to 3.3 per cent of the GDP for the financial year ending March 2020.
If there will be well articulated and executed plan, then the expansion in fiscal deficit will not affect India's ratings, she added.
Further the new president said that there is a need to focus on boosting exports.
"We are only 1.7 per cent of global trade and this is miniscule for country like India and we should ramp this up," she said.
Exports during April-November 2019-20 has dipped by about 2 per cent to USD 212 billion.
On ease of doing business, she said there is more work needs to done by reducing amount of regulation, and further simplification.

New Delhi, May 28 () The country needs to go back to the basics and look at building an economy based on local skills and naturally available resources, Rajya Sabha MP and former Union minister Suresh Prabhu said on Thursday as he emphasised the importance of Atma Nirbhar Bharat. The five pillars of Atma Nirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India) are economy, infrastructure, system, vibrant demography and demand. Speaking at a webinar organised by the Institute of Cost Accountants of India, Prabhu said there is a need to work in a way that people's needs are adequately taken care of and demand of the world is also catered to. Noting that each district has unique traditional characteristics, he said that if a proper study and documentation are done to make the districts self sufficient, then it would have a transformative effect on rural India. "In ancient times, India ws a large economy and its products were sought after. It didn't produce steel, cement or automobiles at that time but it produced things based on local skills. We again need to go back to the basics," Prabhu said. Prabhu is also India's Sherpa for G20 nations. Speaking at the webinar, BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav said Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a categorical call for Atma Nirbhar Bharat amid the COVID-19 pandemic and that the government's motto has been self reliance for the last six years. He said India has managed the COVID-19 crisis well compared to many other countries and attributed it to three factors. Prime minister who has taken right decisions at the right time, an efficient administrative machinery and the 1.3 billion people of the country who have shown great unity and discipline in handling the situation, he noted. Need to look at building economy with local skills: Suresh Prabhu

New Delhi, May 11 () Seeking immediate support for the Indian economy hit by COVID-19, industry body Ficci said an additional fiscal support of Rs 4.5 lakh crore is required at the current juncture besides a quick release of Rs 2.5 lakh crore stuck in refunds and other government payments. In a letter to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Ficci President Sangita Reddy also made a case for the need to create a self-sufficiency fund for innovation, construction and manufacturing clusters to make use of the emerging opportunities in the wake of disruption in global supply chain. The fund can be provided in tranches in the medium term, she said. Seeking an "immediate support", Reddy said the problem being faced is largely that of liquidity, and immediate release of money stuck in refunds and other government payments to the tune of Rs 2.5 lakh crore will immensely help tide over the crisis. "This may have already been provided for in the budget," she said. Further, additional fiscal support is required for vulnerable communities over and above the sum provided for in the Garib Kalyan Yojana announced earlier. Fiscal support is also needed for MSMEs in order to help them get back on track. Besides, funds are needed for upgradation of healthcare infrastructure to effectively deal with the current situation and for support to sectors like aviation and tourism that have been hit hard due to the lockdown. "Additional fiscal support required at the current juncture for this purpose is about Rs 4.5 lakh crore," the letter said. The fiscal support sought includes "small amount" of Rs 10,000 crore towards proposed COVID-19 liquidity bridge required to give comfort to banks to restructure/ provide additional loans to large companies whose balance sheets have been impaired due to the virus outbreak, it added. "Government may need to provide for about Rs 30,000-40,000 crore as a guarantee to banks over a 4-year period and in the current year, it can provide about one-fourth of that amount. "This small amount will have a huge positive impact on these companies and their supply chain that includes several small and medium sized vendors, which otherwise may not survive the current crisis," the chamber said. The central government had imposed a 21-day lockdown from March 25 to check the spread of coronavirus. The lockdown has been extended twice, though with some relaxations. The lockdown has severely affected the economic activities in the country. In order to ensure that weaker sections of the society "continue to get basic amenities and do not get impacted" during lockdown a Rs 1.70 lakh crore Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (PMGKP) was announced by the Finance Minister on March 26. The government has also been providing cash transfers to Jan Dhan accounts held by women. The RBI on its part has sharply reduced the key short-term lending rate with an aim to spur credit disbursement. It also announced a Rs 50,000 crore special liquidity facility for the mutual fund sector in the wake of redemption pressures related to closure of some debt MFs and potential contagious effects therefrom.
