The layoffs come at a time when the company is grappling with lesser sales due to lower consumer demand, a report in ET reveals. <h2>Samsung plans to lay off people in India </h2> Industry insiders told ET that the layoffs will affect various departments including mobile phones, home appliances, and consumer electronics. The cuts are part of Samsung’s broader effort to lower costs and maintain profitability during this challenging period. The layoffs represent around 9-10 percent of Samsung’s managerial staff in India, where the company employs about 2,000 executives. Those affected will receive three months’ salary along with a severance package offering one month’s salary for every year of service. <h2>Samsung's restructuring plans </h2> As part of its cost-cutting measures, Samsung is also considering merging some of its business divisions, such as television and home appliances. This restructuring, which aims to streamline operations and reduce inefficiencies, could lead to further layoffs. While no official decision has been made yet, reports suggest that the final plan will be confirmed after Diwali, a key festival season in India. The report also mentioned that Samsung has already frozen new hires, and positions left vacant by executives who have resigned are not being filled. Samsung really wants to outsmart Apple in the Galaxy-iPhone battle 

The country's largest lender <keyword id="13222" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sbi" source="Orion">SBI</keyword> on Saturday reported a 9.13 per cent growth in consolidated net profit for the September quarter to Rs 16,099.58 crore. The state-run lender had reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 14,752 crore in the year-ago period and Rs 18,356 crore in the June quarter. On a standalone basis, it posted a net profit of Rs 14,330.02 crore as against Rs 13,264.52 crore in the year-ago period. The bank, which controls over a fifth of the overall market and has the widest network in the country, reported a total income of over Rs 1.12 lakh crore for the quarter under review, up from Rs 88,733 crore in the year-ago period. From an asset quality perspective, its gross non-performing assets ratio was at 2.55 per cent as of September 30, an improvement from the 3.52 per cent in the year-ago period and the 2.76 per cent in the first quarter of the current fiscal. Its overall capital adequacy stood at 14.28 per cent as of September 30. SBI posts 9.13% rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 16,099 crore in Q2

The company had posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 5,496.04 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal, Tata Motors said in a regulatory filing. Total consolidated revenue from operations stood at Rs 1,19,986.31 crore, as compared to Rs 1,05,932.35 crore in the year-ago period. In <keyword id="20028449" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Q4" source="keywords">Q4</keyword> FY24, Tata Motors said all three auto businesses delivered strong performance. The company's British arm Jaguar Land Rover had "another record-breaking quarter in Q4 FY24. Revenue for the quarter was 7.9 billion pounds, up 11 per cent versus Q4 FY23", Tata Motors said. JLR's Profit After Tax (PAT) in Q4 was 1.4 billion pounds as against a profit of 259 million pounds in the same quarter a year ago, it added. The Board of Directors have recommended a final dividend of Rs 3 per ordinary share and Rs 3.10 per 'A' ordinary share and a special dividend of Rs 3 per ordinary share and Rs 3.10 per 'A' ordinary share subject to approval by the shareholders. For the fiscal ended March 31, 2024, consolidated net profit was at Rs 31,806.75 crore as compared to Rs 2,689.87 crore in the previous fiscal, the company said. In FY24, total consolidated revenue from operations stood at Rs 4,37,927.77 crore as compared to Rs 3,45,966.97 crore in FY23. <keyword id="20430970" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-motors-group" source="keywords">Tata Motors Group</keyword> Chief Financial Officer, PB Balaji said in FY24 the Tata Motors Group delivered its highest-ever revenues, profits, and free cash flows. "The India business is now debt-free, and we are on track to become net automotive debt-free on a consolidated basis in FY25. The businesses are executing well on their distinct strategies and therefore, we are confident of sustaining this strong performance in the coming years," he added. JLR's revenues for FY24 were 29 billion pounds, its highest-ever full-year revenue and up 27 per cent compared to the prior year, while PAT for FY24 was 2.6 billion pounds. "We have delivered a record financial performance for the company, generating free cash flow of 2.3 billion pound, enabling us to reduce net debt to 0.7 billion pound," JLR Chief Executive Officer Adrian Mardell said. The foundation of this performance was the sustained global demand for JLR's modern luxury vehicles, led by Range Rover and Defender brands, underpinned by a consistent focus on operational improvement, he added. Tata Commercial Vehicles' Q4 FY24 revenue was at Rs 21,600 crore, while FY24 revenue was Rs 78,800 crore. In Q4 FY24, domestic wholesale commercial vehicles (CV) volumes were 1,04,600 units, lower 7 per cent year-on-year on account of increased pre-buy in Q4 FY23 due to BS6 Phase II transition, the company said. Tata Motors Ltd Executive Director Girish Wagh said the Indian CV industry grew by a modest 2 per cent in volumes during FY24, impacted by a high base effect of FY23, elections held across five states and the announcement of general elections. "Our sharp focus on profitable growth resulted in the CV business recording its highest-ever revenues of Rs 78,800 crore and profits of Rs 6,100 crore in FY24. Going forward, we will intensify our efforts to grow market share, profitably and consistently, in every business segment by delivering more value to customers with innovative products, smarter services and holistic mobility solutions," he added. Tata Passenger Vehicles clocked revenue of Rs 14,400 crore in Q4 while for the full year FY24 it was at Rs 52,400 crore. In Q4, Passenger Vehicle (PV) volumes were at 1,55,600 units, up 14.8 per cent from the year-ago period, supported by new SUV facelifts and multiple power trains, the company said. "Passenger vehicle sales in India set a record in FY24 with over 4.2 million units sold, driven by SUVs (50 per cent of overall sales) and emission-friendly powertrains. Tata Motors recorded its third consecutive year of highest sales volumes with 6 per cent growth in wholesales and 10 per cent in retail sales over FY23," Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Managing Director Shailesh Chandra said. The company sold 73,800 EVs during the year, marking a 48 per cent increase as compared to FY23 and crossed a milestone of 1.5 lakh cumulative EV production, he added. Tata Motors Q4 consolidated net profit jumps over 3-fold at ₹17,528.59 crore

The world's largest memory chip maker is forecast to log 14.5 trillion won ($11.1 billion) in operating profit in the April-June period, up 15.6 per cent from a year ago, according to the survey by Yonhap Infomax, the financial data firm of Yonhap News Agency. <keyword id="10591" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="samsung" source="Orion">Samsung</keyword>'s Q2 sales are estimated to increase by 20.6 per cent to 76.8 trillion won, while net income is likely to jump 19.8 per cent to 11.5 trillion won, the survey showed. Strong demand for memory chips used in servers and data centers supported the tech company's solid performance, with global shipments of DRAM and NAND Flash both growing in the three months ending in June by 9 per cent and 2 per cent on-year, respectively. By sector, Samsung's chip business is forecast to grow 42 per cent to report an operating profit of 9.8 trillion won. The growth in its smartphone business, however, seems to have weaken due to slower spending on consumer electronics amid surging inflation and recession fears. Samsung's smartphone shipments are estimated to come in at 61 million units in the second quarter, a 16 per cent drop from the previous quarter. Operating profit of the division is likely to drop 600 billion won from last year to 2.6 trillion won. Sales of home appliances are also hit by consumer's weaker spending power, rising costs of raw materials and seasonality factors. Operating profit of the division is forecast to be around 500 billion won, less than half the figure from a year ago. The display panel business is also likely to report weaker performances on slower demand, with the second quarter operating profits forecast to decline by 300 billion won from a year ago to 1 trillion won. Analysts are painting a bleak picture for the second half, as the ongoing war in Ukraine, rising inflation and China's COVID-19 lockdowns are dragging down demand for, and consumer spending on, electronic devices. Global shipments of consumer devices, such as mobile phones and PCs, are on pace to decline 7.6 per cent this year, according to technology research firm Gartner. Samsung to make $11 billion profit on robust semiconductor business

Riding on the premiumisation trend in <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword>, <keyword id="19934037" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="iphones" source="keywords">iPhones</keyword> grew 28 per cent from 4 per cent market share in 2022 to more than 6 per cent in 2023, according to latest industry data. In the fourth quarter of 2023 alone, <keyword id="19912026" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="iphone" source="keywords">iPhone</keyword> shipments saw seven per cent growth in India, according to <keyword id="20061952" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cmr" source="keywords">CMR</keyword> data accessed by IANS. <keyword id="19894961" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="apple" source="keywords">Apple</keyword>'s Q4 2023 performance in India paints a picture of strong measured progress in a crucial growth market. "The 28 per cent YoY growth in iPhone shipments in 2023 underlines Apple's long-term growth potential in India. I believe India will power Apple's growth over the next decade, just like China did in the previous one," said Prabhu Ram, Head, Industry Intelligence Group at CMR. The iPhone 15 grew on the back of the rising premiumization trend in India. "The continued significance of older generation iPhones, including the iPhone 14 and 13 series underscores the effectiveness of Apple's affordability initiatives and targeted retail strategies in appealing to a broader spectrum of Indian consumers, contributing to the overall growth," Ram told IANS. As India doubles down on local manufacturing, Apple assembled iPhones worth more than Rs 1 lakh crore in India in 2023, according to industry data. However, according to industry sources, the actual market value of the iPhones manufactured/assembled in India could be much higher, depending on taxes in other countries. Apple's manufacturing in India is part of the goals set under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme. Led by Apple, India is set to cross $15 billion (over Rs 1,24,000 crore) in mobile phone exports in the current fiscal year (FY24), posting a growth of 35 per cent over the last fiscal year. iPhones grow 28% to grab over 6% market share in India in 2023

<keyword id="10591" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="samsung" source="Orion">Samsung</keyword> on Thursday reported strong fourth-quarter earnings on robust chip business and brisk sales of consumer electronics. Net profit rose 64.04 per cent from a year earlier to 10.8 trillion won ($9 billion) in the October-December period, the world's largest memory chip and smartphone vendor said in a regulatory filing. Operating profit jumped 53.3 per cent to 13.8 trillion won, the highest fourth-quarter operating profit since 2017. Sales hit a quarterly record of 76.5 trillion won, up from 61.5 trillion won from a year earlier, on the back of strong finished product businesses with expanded sales of premium smartphones. On a quarterly basis, Samsung's operating profit was down 12.3 per cent from the third quarter due to one-off costs, including employee bonuses. Sales were up 3.5 per cent. Samsung said its mainstay chip business posted quarterly sales of 26 trillion won and an operating profit of 8.84 trillion won. While demand for memory chips used in servers was strong, earnings declined from the previous quarter because of the continued global supply chain issue and a slight drop in average selling prices, it said. The chip contract manufacturing, or foundry, business logged record-high revenue, it said, without providing detailed figures. Its profitability, however, decreased a bit from the third quarter "due to a rise in costs related to ramping up advanced process nodes," it added. The component shortage appears to have also eased in the fourth quarter, contributing to bigger smartphone shipments estimated to be around 67 million in the October-December period, up around 7 per cent from a year earlier, according to Counterpoint Research. The total sales of the Galaxy Z series is believed to be around 8-9 nine million units last year, led by the popularity of the Galaxy Z Fold3, which folds in half like a book, and the clamshell-type Galaxy Z Flip3 among young tech-savvy consumers. Both models were released in August last year, reports Yonhap news agency. Samsung's Mobile eXperience (MX) and networks unit reported 28.95 trillion won in sales and 2.66 trillion won in operating profit. Indian smartphone market sees a declines in Q2; Vivo in the lead

The Galaxy A14 comes in three versions -- 4GB+64GB at ₹16,499, 6GB+128GB at ₹18,999, and 8GB+128GB at ₹20,999, while Galaxy A23 comes in two versions -- 6GB+128GB at ₹22,999, and 8GB+128 GB at ₹24,999, according to the company. The Galaxy A14 comes in Dark Red, Light Green, and Black, while, Galaxy A23 comes in Silver, Light Blue, and Orange, and both devices will be available across Samsung exclusive and partner stores, its official website and other online players starting January 20. "These devices showcase our premium design philosophy and come with industry-leading features like 16GB RAM with RAM Plus and 5000mAh battery. Starting at a net effective price of just INR 14999, these devices will be instrumental in driving our mission of making 5G accessible to everyone," Aditya Babbar, Senior Director, Mobile Business, at Samsung India, said in a statement. The Galaxy A14 comes with a 6.6-inch HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate for real smooth scrolling. With a 6.6-inch FHD+ screen, Galaxy A23 ensures an immersive content viewing experience and offers a 120Hz refresh rate that enables smooth scrolling and fluid screen transitions, the company mentioned. Moreover, both devices come with a massive 5000mAh battery, with up to two days of power. The Galaxy A23 supports 25W fast charging and comes equipped with an adaptive power-saving mode that automatically adapts to your usage and switches power-saving mode. The Galaxy A23 sports a 50MP quad rear camera set-up along with ultra-wide, depth and macro lens to shoot vivid and crisp photos and videos. Samsung launches affordable Galaxy A14 and Galaxy A23 with 5G capabilities in India

The premium smart TV range is available in sizes starting at 50-inches and going up to 98-inches. The brand has focused on better connectivity, advanced personalization, improved gaming experience, and sustainability. Price &amp; Availability The Neo QLED 8K TV comes in four variants with the available sizes 98-inch, 85-inch, 75-inch, and 65-inch. The QN700-C 65-inch variant is offered at a price of ₹3,14,990. The Neo QLED 4K TV has three variants- 85-inch, 75-inch, 65-inch, 55-inch, and 50-inch screen sizes. The QN85C (65-inch,55-inch) models will be available at a starting price of ₹1,41,990. Samsung Neo QLED TVs The Samsung Neo QLED TVs feature Samsung’s Quantum Matrix Technology that powers up to 33 million pixels and delivers a billion colors. The TVs feature Samsung’s Neural Quantum Processor, which supports the Quantum Mini LED-lit TV with 14-bit processing and AI upscaling. This enables Shape Adaptive Light Control and Real Depth Enhancer Pro for a three-dimensional experience. Both Neo QLED 8K &amp; 4K TVs are validated by Pantone, certifying accurate expression of 2,030 Pantone colors and 110 skin tone shades. The Neo QLED TVs come equipped with Q Symphony 3.0, allowing TV and soundbar speakers to operate simultaneously for a surround effect. Moreover, the brand has introduced an AI Energy mode through its SmartThings app, which can reduce energy consumption by 20%. Smart Connectivity The new lineup has a built-in IoT Hub with Calm Onboarding feature and IoT-enabled sensors to control lights or sound. A difficult road lies head for the tech giant in the coming months and well into the next year, amid growing economic uncertainties and fears of a recession. Adding to the challenges, Lee's legal battle is yet to be over. He is currently standing trial over the 2015 merger of two Samsung affiliates and alleged accounting fraud at the pharmaceutical unit Samsung Biologics.
