The issue received decent participation from qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) who subscribed 8.82 times. Retail investors however subscribed only 1.11 times. The two firms had re-filed their preliminary papers with Sebi in March this year, and obtained its observation letters during August 28-31, an update with Sebi showed on Tuesday. In Sebi's parlance, its observation implies its go-ahead to launch the initial share sale. As per the draft papers, Samhi Hotels proposed an IPO comprising a fresh issue of equity shares worth Rs 1,000 crore and an Offer For Sale (OFS) of 90 lakh equity shares by existing shareholders. The OFS consists of the sale of 42.36 lakh equity shares by Blue Chandra Pte Ltd, up to 24.78 lakh equity shares by Goldman Sachs Investments Holdings (Asia) Ltd, up to 15.47 lakh equity shares by GTI Capital Alpha Pvt Ltd, and up to 7.39 lakh equity shares by International Finance Corporation. It is a partial exit by the existing shareholders to meet the listing regulations. Earlier, the company filed its IPO papers with Sebi in September 2019 and had obtained the markets regulator's approval in November 2019, to float the initial share sale but the company did not go ahead with the launch. The Gurguram-based company will utilise net proceeds of the fresh issue to the tune of Rs 750 crore towards payment of debt and for general corporate purposes. Samhi has a portfolio of 3,839-key rooms spread across 25 operating hotels in 12 of India's major urban consumer hubs, including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, National Capital Region (NCR), Pune, Chennai, and Ahmedabad, as of February 28, 2023. As of February 2023, it is the largest owner of Fairfield by Marriott and Holiday Inn Express brands in India. It operates under long-term management contracts with global hotel operators like Marriott, Hyatt, and IHG. The IPO of Jaipur-based jewellery retail player Motisons Jewellers comprises fresh issuance of 3.34 crore equity shares and there is no OFS component. The company will utilise the net proceeds from the issue towards repayment of existing borrowings availed by them from scheduled commercial banks, funding the working capital requirements and general corporate purposes. The jewellery maker had filed preliminary IPO papers with the capital markets watchdog in September 2022. However, the regulator returned the draft papers in December. Shares of both companies will be listed on the stock exchanges -- NSE and BSE.

In the September quarter, 21 mainboard IPOs raised as much as $1.77 billion – marking a 3.7x growth in amount rates and 4.2x growth in number of deals. The SME IPO market too recorded significant success by raising $165.7 million via 48 IPOs in the third quarter of 2023. And this momentum will go on for another another, predicts the consulting firm’s IPO trends report. “The IPO landscape is witnessing a surge in activity driven by both an urge to tap the capital markets pre-or-post Indian general elections and strong economic activity, positive domestic and foreign investor sentiment towards India. This momentum is expected to continue well into H2 2024,” said Adarsh Ranka, partner and financial accounting advisory services leader, member firm of EY Global. The pipeline ahead is strong with over 25 companies filing their Draft Red Herring Prospectuses (DRHPs) in Q3. It demonstrates a strong intent to raise funds in the upcoming quarters, the report opines. The three largest IPOs in Q3 were RR Kable, Concord Biotech, and SAMHI Hotels. Key sectors contributing to this IPO surge included diversified industrial products, consumer products and retail, and technology. “Market optimism is attributed to several factors, including the US recession, the Federal Reserve's pause in interest rate hikes, and inflation. Companies are striving to file for IPOs before the 2024 Indian elections, with the demand for IPOs surging this year compared to 2022,” says E&amp;Y. Listing gains and more IPOs This year’s tranche of IPOs also rewarded their investors with positive listing gains. According to Pranav Haldea, managing director of PRIME Database Group, IPO response was further buoyed by strong listing performance. The average listing gain increased to 29.4% in the first half of 2022-23. Ideaforge with 93% returns, Utkarsh Small Finance Bank with 92% and Netweb Technologies with 82% returns are some of the best performing IPOs. “The markets continue to reward companies with robust, scalable, and well-governed business models,” says E&amp;Y. In line with primary market fund raises, August 2023 also witnessed a remarkable $5.2 billion in <keyword id="3472800" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pe/vc-investments" source="Orion">PE/VC investments</keyword>. This is a 127% increase compared to August 2022 and an 18% increase from July 2023. <keyword id="12977634" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pe/vc-exits" source="Orion">PE/VC exits</keyword> reached $4.3 billion across 37 deals, marking a 35% year-over-year increase in value.

Positive on ITC despite surge in NCCD Despite a 16% increase in national calamity contingent duty (NCCD) for certain cigarettes, analysts are positive the higher duty will not impact volumes much. “We believe the surge in NCCD will not have a material impact on overall cigarette volume growth for the industry as it implies only a 1-2% price rise. We are positive on ITC and expect the volume growth for the company to remain stable, going ahead, “ said Preeyam Tolia, senior research analyst, FMCG &amp; retail at Axis Securities. Auto sector has lots to celebrate Further, the auto industry also has a reason to celebrate since the budget has removed custom duty on capital goods imported for the manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles (EVs). The move is to reduce the cost of EVs in the country. A proposed reduction of basic customs duty rates on goods other than agriculture and textiles from 21% to 13% is seen as another positive, while the relief in taxes is also expected to boost consumer spending by salaried consumers. Also, the finance minister said that more funds would be allocated towards scrapping old vehicles by the central government. "In addition to the vehicle scrappage policy announced in Budget 2021-22, more funds have been allocated now to support efforts to scrap old vehicles under the central government. States will also be supported to help them scrap old vehicles and old ambulances," said Sitharaman in her budget speech. This is seen boosting the commercial vehicles industry. The significantly higher capex allocation will support the commercial vehicles industry and will be positive for multi-axle vehicles and tippers, said Crisil. “Increase in spending on infrastructure, setting up of 50 new airports and heliports, creation of 100 transport infrastructure projects are welcome moves, in addition to the central support for replacing old vehicles. All of these should drive consumption and overall demand of vehicles," said Banwari Lal Sharma, CEO, consumer business at CarTrade Tech. Hotel stocks are among favourites Shares of hotel companies rose on Wednesday after the finance minister announced that the government will promote tourism in the country. "Promotion of tourism will be taken up on mission mode with the active participation of states, the convergence of government programs &amp; public-private partnerships," said Sitharaman in her budget speech. There is a large potential to be tapped in tourism. The sector holds huge opportunities for jobs and entrepreneurship for youths, she added. “There is a huge thrust on the tourism sector in the budget. 50 domestic destinations will be selected and uplifted. Domestic tourism will be promoted as an alternative to international tourism. We have seen Samhi Hotels, Oyo, Ixigo planning their IPO in 2023. If you look at Easemytrip, which got listed in 2021 has created huge wealth for investors (and is) also announcing high growth in topline and bottomline,” said Manish Khanna, co-founder at Unlisted Assets. The special push to the tourism sector is expected to bring more companies from the tourism sector to the listed space. “We would see many companies in this sector going in for IPO from the unlisted space. Some of the burn companies like Oyo are also expected to be operationally profitable in FY23, which is a huge positive coming out from covid downturn,” said Khanna.
