The Army has established temporary bridges to establish connectivity between areas cut off to facilitate <keyword id="20501159" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rescue-operations" source="keywords">rescue operations</keyword>. Teams of NDRF, SDRF, Home Guard, and CISF have been coordinating to carry out the rescue and search operation. The Home Guard Commandant, RP Nepta, informed about the rescue operation that recommenced at 7 am in Rampur's Samej. He stated that five JCBs have been deployed today and various teams have been trying to coordinate to recover the maximum number of bodies. "It is the fourth day today. Yesterday there was a review meeting. Today, we will work on war footing. Five JCBs have been deployed here. Task forces have been assigned different roles here. The search operation commenced at 7 am today. I am hoping that we will recover bodies today. Local people have told us where we can possibly find bodies. We will conduct search operations over there as well. We are also building a bridge," said the Home Guard Commandant. "NDRF, CISF, Army, and Home Guard teams have reached. We are hoping that the maximum number of bodies will be recovered today. The three bodies that have been recovered have not been identified yet. That is why we are showing those bodies to people. We are also providing relief to people. 36 people are missing here," he added further. Himachal Pradesh minister Vikramaditya Singh said on Saturday that around 50 people are feared dead in the affected areas and the official number can only be declared after official confirmation and completion of rescue operations. Singh also said that the topmost priority of the state government is to retrieve the bodies and restore connectivity in the affected areas of the state as soon as possible.

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 1 (ANI): As many as 19 people were missing as an incident of <keyword id="22151495" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cloudburst" source="keywords">cloudburst</keyword> occurred at the <keyword id="22624607" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samej-Khad" source="keywords">Samej Khad</keyword> area in the Rampur region of Shimla district, as confirmed by Deputy Commissioner of Shimla district administration Anupam Kashyap. Information was received by the District <keyword id="141455" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Disaster-Management-Authority" source="Orion">Disaster Management Authority</keyword> early Thursday morning about a cloud burst near the hydropower project in Samej Khad in Jhakri, Rampur. Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap and Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Gandhi left for the site of the incident. Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap said that as soon as the information about the incident was received, the NDRF team, SDRF team, police, and rescue team left for the site of the incident. Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap said that relief work has been started immediately. He said that ITBP, the Special Home Guard contingent, has also been included in the rescue team. In his statement, LoP Jairam Thakur said "I am saddened to hear the news of the loss of life and property in Rajman village near Thaltukhod in Mandi district due to heavy rains last night and many buildings and houses being washed away and many people going missing in Samej, Bagipul areas under Nirmand. I stand with the affected families in this hour of grief. I also request the State Government to ensure relief and rescue operations on a war footing at the sites of devastation caused by heavy rains in the entire State last night." Another incident of a cloudburst has been reported in Thaltukhod, Padhar subdivision of Mandi. One body has been recovered and nine people have been missing. Houses have also been damaged. the district administration and the NDRF team left for the spot, said Apoorv Devgan, Deputy Commissioner Mandi.

Baljinder Singh, 14th Battalion Commandant, National Disaster Response Force (<keyword id="19988414" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NDRF" source="keywords">NDRF</keyword>) said that the NDRF teams were sent well-prepared to Himachal Pradesh this year to ensure no delay in the rescue operations. Speaking to ANI, Singh said: "This year, the NDRF teams were sent to remote locations in Himachal Pradesh to ensure there is no delay in the rescue operations. The Samej cloudburst that has taken place is a huge disaster." Further, he added that 13 bodies were recovered by Thursday morning. "We have recovered 13 dead bodies as of now. Four dead bodies were recovered earlier. Ten more people were missing, and we have found nine bodies as of now. One person has still not been found. We will make sure the rescue operations are carried out properly," he said. Earlier, on August 7, the IMD reported significant rainfall across the state, with Joginder Nagar in Mandi district experiencing the highest at 110 MM in 24 hours Kuldeep Srivastava, head of IMD Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, said that alerts were issued for various regions. "We have recorded the highest rainfall at Joginder Nagar in Mandi district at 110 mm during the past 24 hours. It is heavy rainfall, and in Sirmaur district, we have received heavy rainfall," Dr. Srivastava stated. "In other parts of the state, there has been moderate rainfall. Nearly 75 per cent of areas have received between 30 mm to 50 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours," Srivastava told ANI. According to the <keyword id="20039001" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="District-Administration" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="District Administration" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="District Administration">district administration</keyword>, at least 20 bodies have been recovered from the rubble and search operations are underway. The Shimla District Administration held an emergency meeting on Wednesday to address the situation and begin road restoration. "We convened a meeting today due to the landslides and damaged roads. All concerned departments were called together to discuss the transportation system and road restoration. The Superintending Engineer (PWD) has provided a restoration plan, and geologists will assess the situation. A report will be submitted for the restoration of these roads," said Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap. "As for the Rampur floods in Samej areas, search operations have not yet yielded full results. We have recovered 20 bodies out of 33; the search will continue. The bodies were found floating in the Sutlej River, and five locations along the riverbank are being monitored. Major damage occurred in the Samej and Taklech areas earlier. Restoration efforts are ongoing," added Kashyap. The multiple landslides in Shimla majorly affected Boilouganj, Chaura Maidan, and MLA Crossing. The road connecting Chaura Maidan, Boilouganj, and MLA Crossing was severely damaged. "During the last two days, landslides have occurred at several locations in the capital city. The road connecting Boilouganj is now impassable due to the landslides, and we have redirected traffic from Boilouganj Chow through Court Road," Shimla SP Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi said. He further said that the Deputy Commissioner of Shimla has convened a meeting to address the geological aspects, preparedness, and restoration efforts in the city. "We have rerouted traffic to ensure public safety, and the concerned departments will focus on quality engineering for repairs. Additional police personnel will be deployed for traffic management," the SP said. Residents expressed concern over the damaged roads and blamed local authorities for negligence leading to the landslides. Residents are worried about potential water and sewage supply issues as infrastructure is impacted. Karamveer, a resident, expressed frustration that the damaged roads are causing major problems. "We believe the landslides are due to the negligence of the officials. It's the responsibility of the authorities to address these issues, but the local people are suffering. If these problems are not addressed, there will be severe consequences for residents," Karamveer said. "Areas like Boilouganj, Totu, Chakkar, and Bara gaon could face water shortages and other issues due to the damaged infrastructure. Continued construction in these areas is likely to exacerbate the problems," he added.
