Sanjeev Prasad, 61, and his wife Sadhana, 57, say their son, Shrey Sagar, and his wife, Shubhangi Sinha, should pay them $650,000 if the couple does not give them a grandchild within a year, according to the <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-61424869">BBC</a>.The older couple, who live in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand, told the <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/dehradun/couple-sue-son-bahu-for-depriving-them-of-grand-kid/articleshow/91503612.cms">Times of India</a> that the sum is what they spent on Shrey, who is now 35. This includes a $65,000 bill for Shrey's pilot training in the US in 2006 and a luxury car gifted to him for his <keyword id="11896825" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="wedding" source="Orion">wedding</keyword>."I have only one son. I spent all my savings on his upbringing and education," Sanjeev Prasad told the <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/dehradun/couple-sue-son-bahu-for-depriving-them-of-grand-kid/articleshow/91503612.cms">Times of India</a>. "He returned to India in 2007 due to the economic recession abroad. He had lost his job and could not find another for over two years. I supported him financially during this period as well." He added that he arranged a marriage for his son with Shubhangi, now 31, after the younger man finally secured a job. However, he accused the couple of "immense mental harassment" by not giving them a child despite being married for six years now. Sanjeev Prasad said the young couple live in separate states because of work, and that their daughter-in-law doesn't stay with them, which has "added to (their) sufferings" and caused the older couple "immense pain." The couple's lawyer, AK Srivastava, told local <keyword id="11893589" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="news" source="Orion">news</keyword> outlet <a href="https://twitter.com/ANINewsUP/status/1524325462058893312">ANI News</a> that the case "portrays the truth of society.""We invest in our children, make them capable of working in good firms. Children owe their parents basic financial care," the lawyer said, adding that the pair either wanted a grandchild within a year, or monetary compensation. <ul><li><keyword id="8883425" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="savita-jadhav">Savita Jadhav</keyword> was an army kid but realised ‘the help’ in India’s former army areas doesn’t have equal rights when she returned to civilian life. </li><li>In 2001, she founded the <keyword id="8883423" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="sadhana-institute-for-sustainable-development">Sadhana Institute for Sustainable Development</keyword> (SISD), to fight for change but no level of government wanted to take responsibility for this segment of the population. </li><li>There are over 62 cantonments areas all over India, with at least five million people excluded from basic rights because of mixed governance. </li></ul>India’s cantonment areas were set during the British era as temporary shelters for the soldiers. Over a hundred years down the line, the country’s gained independence and India’s in control of its own armed forces — yet these areas still struggle of human rights and remain sequestered from the constitution. "Even after independence, the governance in these areas stayed as when they were formed by the British Government," Savita Jadhav, founder of Sadhana Institute for Sustainable Development (SISD), told Business Insider in an interview. <div type="image" title="SISD" msid="74533963" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Community girls in Dehu Road cantonment at a meeting about protecting their rights&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>

 These former army areas don’t have the same governance structure as the rest of India and the same rights don’t apply. The ‘help’ brought in to service the British — to help with sweeping, cleaning, washing, milk rearing and other tasks — is now isolated in slums without access to the most basic of welfare schemes. "Now, that these things are being taken care of by the government — they no longer want these communities staying here and they’re being called encroached people," explained Jadhav. To make matter worse, people within the community aren’t aware of their rights, or where to go to speak up on issues. While Jadhav’s work focuses on the cantonment area in Pune, there are over 62 cantonments areas all over India. Official data states that there are around 2.1 million people living there, however Jadhav believes at least five million people are being excluded because of convoluted governance. "People within the cantonment are not aware of the situation. It’s difficult for them to see that there are still pockets of people who are being treated unconstitutionally and discriminated against," she said. It’s dangerous work Born and brought up in the cantonment area, Jadhav enjoyed the luxuries of army life as a child when her grandfather was working at one of the army depots. But, when she returned to being a civilian, a grim reality came to light — that the community was clearly divided into two different strata. If you weren’t army personnel, you had no services or entitlement. Studying at schools set up by her grandfather, Jadhav studied psychology and worked in different areas of community developed. In 2001, she set out to solve the problem by setting up the SISD.  "In 2003, I was strategically working with children and people in the community. But there was a threat to me as well because it’s an army area. It’s difficult to work with a free mind since are limitations to what we can do in a defence area," said Jadhav. She wasn’t the only one who had to be careful. The people within the community were afraid to speak up about their own human rights for fear of the consequences. Even if they did gather the courage, they wouldn’t know where to go. "For local governance, in villages and other operations, people at least know where to go if they have a problem. Here, there is local governance in the form of cantonment boards, but there’s a big gap. People aren’t aware that they exist and don’t dare to go and speak about their situation, thinking that this is the army and nobody can do anything," explained Jadhav. Who’s responsible for the cantonment areas? When she started out, Jadhav didn’t know who to approach. SISD knocked on all doors to find try and find out who was responsible for this segment of the population and nobody seemed to want to step up. After conducting a number of activities — like studying malnutrition, hosting numerous press conferences, and putting pressure on all central, state and local governance — the state government finally agreed to put in some effort. In 2012, the Integrated Child Development Service Scheme (ICDS) — the biggest scheme in India for the welfare of children — was made accessible to the people living in the Pune cantonment area. "If the state government can implement one scheme, then they can implement other schemes as well. If they can implement in one cantonment, they can do in other cantonments as well," said Jadhav. Since the defence industry falls under the unplanned sector, there is no allocation of this segment of the population in any of India’s development plans. And the government believes that since defence is a strategic sector, it’s governed by national interest and security. Hence, they are reluctant to interfere. However, things are changing are more representation comes to the surface. People have more say in governance but it’s still a ways to go before their rights are at par with the rest of the country.

New Delhi, The JEE mains examination have commenced from Tuesday. This is the first time that JEE examinations are being conducted under the country's <keyword id="2450716" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-education-policy">new education policy</keyword>. Under the new education policy, this time round, students are also appearing for the JEE mains examinations in Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi, Urdu, Odia, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, Assamese and Gujarati languages, besides English and Hindi. For the first time, students have got an opportunity to appear for exams in <keyword id="380963" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="13">13</keyword> <keyword id="475721" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-languages">Indian languages</keyword>. These examinations are being conducted only in computer-based test CBDT mode. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has set up 852 examination centres across the country. During the examination held in September, 660 examination centres had been set up. 6,61,761 lakh candidates are appearing for this coveted computer-based entrance exam. Online examination for BE and B.Tech will be conducted in two shifts from February 24th to 26th. According to the National Testing Agency, the examination centre is also being fully sanitised between the two shifts. In the examination centres, face masks and sanitiser have been provided for students. The body temperature of students will also be checked with thermal guns before going to the examination centre. According to Vineet Joshi, Director General, National Testing Agency, all state governments and the police have appealed for a safe transport facility for students keeping in view the examination. The guidelines of the Union Health Ministry to prevent Coronavirus infections are being strictly followed. Students have been called to the examination centres two hours before the exam. The distance between two computers and between students will be maintained during the examination. The NTA has also conducted mock drills at the examination centres on Monday before the examination. "In view of the Corona epidemic, the eligibility criteria for obtaining 75 percentage points in class XII for admission to IITs this year has been done away with," said <keyword id="19402" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sadhana">Sadhana</keyword> Parashar, senior examination director of the National Examination Agency, which is conducting the JEE examinations. JEE Exam to be conducted in 13 Indian languages for the first time under the New Education Policy

The prestigious Joint Entrance <keyword id="49591" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="examination">Examination</keyword> (<keyword id="6392660" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="JEE">JEE</keyword>) Advanced 2021 test has been postponed in view of the coronavirus situation in the country. Since the <keyword id="9859756" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="JEE-Mains-Examination">JEE Mains examination</keyword> could not be held at the scheduled time (May 24-28), so the <keyword id="1126172" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="JEE-Advanced">JEE Advanced</keyword> examination, which was going to be held on July 3, has also been postponed, the <keyword id="55119" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Institute-of-Technology">Indian Institute of Technology</keyword>, <keyword id="6357441" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="kharagpur">Kharagpur</keyword> announced. The Union <keyword id="181369" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Education-ministry">Education Ministry</keyword> had decided to conduct the JEE Mains examination four times in the current year. Candidates can appear in all four examinations of which their best test scores will be considered for appearing for the JEE Advanced exam. However, only two of the four sessions of JEE Mains examination have been conducted till now. <keyword id="581232" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Testing-Agency">National Testing Agency</keyword>'s Senior Examination Director, Sadhana Parashar, said the first session of the JEE Mains examination was held in February this year and more than 6,20,000 students appeared. The second session was held in March with more than 5,56,000 students appearing. The third session of the JEE Mains examination was scheduled to be held from April 27 to 30, but had to be postponed in view of the second wave of pandemic. In the sane way, the fourth session to be held on May 24-28 was also postponed. According to the Education Ministry, students will be informed 15 days in advance before the test is conducted. The results of the JEE Main Exam Session 2 which were held in March have been already declared. These exams were conducted in 12 foreign cities and 334 Indian cities. Due to the second wave of Covid-19, the Union Education Ministry had decided to postpone all offline examinations scheduled in the month of May. This decision will be applicable to all central higher educational institutions across the country. Such higher educational institutions, which receive financial aid from the government, will also have to postpone these too.
