President Murmu to launch start-up platform for women entrepreneurs

Patel on Thursday said, "There are currently 18 NDRF teams and 18 SDRF platoons operating across the state. Another eight teams are in reserve." The damage to property is being estimated by surveying the area affected by the rains. Due to heavy rains, power supply was disrupted in nearly 5,150 villages, of which electricity in 5,110 villages has been restored. Farmers have sown Kharif crops on more than 44,36,980 hectare of land, which is more than 50 per cent area cultivated for Kharif crops. Most of the dams are nearly 50 per cent filled with rain water. For example, the Sardar Sarovar dam is 48 per cent filled more than its capacity with rain water. The average rainfall recorded in 14 days of July this year is more than double that during the same time period in 2021. In 2021, the average rainfall was 155.92 mm but it is 397.02 mm in 2022 while the average rainfall in the state is 850 mm. Nearly 50 per cent of the total rainfall for July has been recorded in 20 talukas from July 8-11. Each taluka has received more than 50 mm of rainfall till now. For the first time in this decade, Gujarat has received such a huge amount of rainfall in July. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister <keyword id="350454" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="rajendra-trivedi" source="Orion">Rajendra Trivedi</keyword>, while briefing the media about a review meeting over the rainfall situation in the state at Gandhinagar, said that due to heavy rains, six persons were rescued by a chopper with the help of <keyword id="4892872" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="state-coast-guard" source="Orion">State Coast Guard</keyword>. However, rescue operations are still underway to airlift people. A total of 570 civilians trapped in water have been rescued while eight districts in the state are still on red alert, he said. Trivedi added that 43 deaths have been reported in the state since July 7, with the highest number of deaths due to lightning. In addition, 477 animal deaths have also been reported. Out of 14,610 state transport bus routes operating in villages across the state, routes to 148 villages have been closed for safety reasons. He said that due to incessant rain since July 7, a total of 126 houses have been completely damaged and 19 huts have been completely washed away. The rain-affected areas will be surveyed on a war footing and assistance will be provided for damaged houses and huts. As many as 178 persons were rescued by the NDRF in Sambhoi village of Vadodara which includes 67 men, 76 women and 35 children. In Kutiana taluka of Porbandar district, Devda village was flooded due to torrential rains since early Thursday morning. As a result, the farms were turned into islands and the locals were trying to dispose the water themselves. The Kharo dam of Bantwa village overflowed on Thursday. As many as 14 roads in Porbandar district have been closed due to heavy rains. Heavy rains in Ranavav and Kutiana talukas flooded the towns. PM Narendra Modi released the <keyword id="123247" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="commemorative-coins">commemorative coins</keyword> of Rs 150 denomination to celebrate Mahatma Gandhiji’s 150th birthday. The event took place in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on October 2, 2019 when the Prime Minister reached the Sabarmati Riverfront to participate in the proceedings of the Swacch Bharat Divas program. The event at Ahmedabad Dropping in at the Sabarmati Ashram, the holy seat from where the father of the nation launched most of his freedom fight related activities, Narendra Modi wrote in the visitor’s book, "I'm satisfied that on the occasion of #GandhiAt150, we're witnessing the fulfillment of his dream of 'Swachh Bharat'. For Indians, this kind of protest is nothing new. We have all read enough about it in history covering the epoch of freedom struggle. What is happening in Bengaluru right now? In the capital of Karnataka, a handful of leading protesters calling for mass upheaval against the CAA are asking them at the Quddus Saheb Eidgah grounds not to furnish any citizenship papers while being asked by the government. They too urged them to fill up the detention centers till all of them went housefull. One of the masterminds behind the historic kind of protest, Harsh Mander, a leading social activist charged BJP and its inspirer RSS saying they are trying to divide the country in religious lines. He said, “When Mahatma Gandhi called for civil disobedience, over 70,000 people were jailed for going against British. I am taking a pledge that <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bengaluru/karnataka-prominent-voices-call-for-civil-disobedience-against-caa/articleshow/72948269.cms">I will not submit any papers to the government.</a> Let them put me in a detention center”. The history of Civil Disobedience Movement in India The first of its kind in India during those times, Mahatma Gandhi launched the civil disobedience movement against the British Government on March 12, 1930. Britain’s Salt Act had banned Indians from making or selling salt, which was a staple food in the Indian diet. Gandhiji’s Civil Disobedience Movement was to attack the monopoly of the British Government over the manufacturing and selling of salt in the country. How did it happen? Gandhiji urged the Indians to break the law in a non-violent manner as a way of conveying the Indian’s opposition to the said law. For Gandhiji, Defying the Salt Act meant a creative and simple way of breaking the British law in line with the principles of Ahimsa. On March 12, 1930, <a href="https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/gandhi-leads-civil-disobedience">he organized the most famous Dandi March</a>. It was a 241 mile long disobedience march from his Ashram at Sabarmati to the coastal town of Dandi on the Arabian Sea. Started just with 78 followers, the crowds swelled with every day passing by. The protesters reached Dandi on April 5 and attempted to make salt at the sea. The shape that the protest took When Gandhi bent down to pick up a handful of salt, he symbolically defied the British Salt Law. The police forestalled the crowds before they acted on their plans. However, Gandhiji’s lead inspired thousands and similar marches to make salt were organized across India with the participation of lakhs of people. About 60,000 people were arrested. The historic Civil Disobedience Movement proved the British government that it was a force that they would not be able to ignore or suppress. What to expect? Defying the government’s law, peaceful and nonviolent protest, and non-cooperation are the characteristics of the Civil Disobedience Movement. What we see at Bengaluru right now are mimicking the essence of Gandhi's Satyagraha. We need to wait and see the shape the Civil Disobedience Protest at Karnataka might take.
