Tata Consultancy Services has topped the <keyword id="28120" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="linkedin" source="Orion">LinkedIn</keyword>'s latest list of top companies to work for in India, followed by <keyword id="6370971" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="accenture" source="Orion">Accenture</keyword> and <keyword id="28721" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cognizant" source="Orion">Cognizant</keyword> in the second and third place respectively. Professional networking platform LinkedIn on Tuesday released the 2024 Top Companies list for India wherein <keyword id="6357647" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="it-companies" source="Orion">IT companies</keyword> bagged the top three ranks, while <keyword id="6354241" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="financial-services" source="Orion">financial services</keyword> firms dominated the list with 9 out of 25 companies from this sector. The 8th edition has derived insights from LinkedIn data, and lists the top 25 large companies, 15 best mid-size companies, and provides insights on in-demand skills, top locations, and the largest job functions within these companies. Amongst large companies (500+ employees in India), Tata Consultancy Services retained its top spot this year, followed by Accenture and Cognizant. Continuing the trend from last year, financial services dominated the 2024 list with 9 out of 25 companies from this sector including Macquarie Group (4th place), Morgan Stanley (5th), and JPMorgan Chase and Co (6th), LinkedIn said. Software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform Lentra ranked first on the list of top mid-size companies list (250-500 employees), followed by Indian online travel platform MakeMyTrip. The list also featured fashion and beauty retailer Nykaa and fantasy sports platform Dream11, showcasing the wide range of opportunities available in diverse industries for job seekers in India. "The in-demand skills that the top companies are looking for in the financial services sector include investor relations, capital markets, and investment banking. Companies in the technology sector are looking for skills such as enterprise software, data storage technologies, software development life cycle (SDLC), and artificial intelligence (AI)," the data revealed. Revenue analysis, nonprofit management, and mobile application development are some of the other skills that are witnessing a surge in demand, it added. Silicon valley of India, Bengaluru was named the top location where these top companies are based and looking to hire talent, followed by Hyderabad, Mumbai Metropolitan Region, and Pune. LinkedIn said the ranking of companies is based on eight pillars that have been shown to lead to career progression such as the ability to advance, skills growth, company stability, external opportunity, company affinity, gender diversity, educational background, and employee presence in the country.

Tech firms TCS, Accenture, Cognizant lead LinkedIn's top large companies list

Global VC firm <keyword id="48032" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="blackstone" source="Orion">Blackstone</keyword> on Monday reached a definitive agreement to sell its stake in the Kerala-based software-as-a-service (<keyword id="6395918" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SaaS" source="Orion">SaaS</keyword>) provider <keyword id="95627" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ibs-software" source="Orion">IBS Software</keyword> to global private equity firm Apax for $450 million. Following the transaction, Apax will partner closely with <keyword id="128946" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ibs" source="Orion">IBS</keyword> Software's Founder and Executive Chairman, V.K. Mathews, who will remain the majority shareholder. Blackstone sells stake worth $450 mn in Indian firm IBS Software to Apax

The de facto norm for creating and integrating contemporary apps has been and continues to be application programming interfaces, or APIs. Simply defined, APIs allow software to communicate with other software, which frees up more developers to work on creating more applications faster and innovating better. Although businesses have been using APIs for a while, there’s been a shift in the way these interfaces are viewed within organizations. Today, many competitive, forward-thinking companies view APIs as software products that enable developers to open up new digital business models and prospects rather than merely as an integration tool to link programmes and data. To give us a broader perspective on this, Abhinav Asthana, CEO and Founder of Postman spoke with Felipe LaMaitre, Director of Developer Relations at AWS, as part of the SaaS Scions web series by Business Insider India to further elaborate on this. Then a Software engineer, Abhinav Asthana launched Postman in 2012 as a side project with the intention of making API testing easier. Today, Postman has more than 25 million registered users and 75,000 open APIs, making it the largest public API hub in the world. Driving factors behind Postman’s success Postman’s popularity can be attributed to the numerous small measures that the company undertook. Asthana's advice to fellow founders is to create a support network of colleagues within the workplace as well as family and friends outside of the business. This serves as the main driving force behind continued building. He reiterates that it is crucial to wait, consider, and list the pros and cons while developing, Asthana acknowledges the simplicity of creating software but advises founders to focus on product development rather than being consumed by operational aspects. “Software is much simpler to create because it doesn't require a significant initial expenditure. You only need a computer, the internet, free time, and some talent. To top it off, there are a tonne of materials online, some of which are even offered by AWS. Instead of getting so preoccupied with the operational aspects of beginning a business, such as seeking capital, setting up an office, and so forth, founders shouldn’t neglect what is most important at this time–developing the product,” he says. Balancing simplicity and complexity in software When asked how to keep things simple in a commercial world when markets and consumer needs are becoming increasingly complex, Asthana says it is "difficult to achieve." The term "software" in general is as wide as the ocean, with an equally enormous scope for improvement. One may always add new features and submit updates, but this leads to a slew of newer challenges. "Every update or upgrade is a component that must be carefully maintained, and the most difficult aspect is balancing all of the components." He notes the importance of introducing new features and simultaneously removing outdated, ineffective ones. APIs as the next big wave in SaaS APIs have been called the "next big SaaS wave." The software revolution began slowly, but in recent years it has skyrocketed, with the shift to software as a service, or SaaS, becoming the fastest-growing part of data. Asthana adds to this by saying, “Two decades ago, this industry was severely underserved on a global scale, with developers bearing the brunt of this". In actuality, however, APIs serve as the fundamental units of software, and since the early 2000s, developers have yearned for a better developer experience, including tools that make designing, documenting, and testing APIs more streamlined. As opposed to writing raw code, developers spend more time working with APIs. As a result, both tech and non-tech businesses have gone digital. Today he says, “APIs are essential abstractions in important industries including banking, healthcare, retail, and others. All of our aspirations for technology two decades ago have been surpassed by this”. However, the buck doesn’t stop here, more needs to be learned and developed, and Postman will play a crucial part in the expanding API business. Postman’s role in expanding the API business Lastly, Asthana spoke about how Postman is working on building and maturing the API market. “We currently work on two levels, informing leadership of the value of APIs for businesses. We also manage developer relations, a programme that is entirely devoted to developers and provides them with practical tools that they can apply right away in their line of work,” he said. He continued, “A student programme run by Postman links peers and the market with students who are open to using software services. Additionally, a lab is available for testing and simulation. He further added that about 70, of these 500 employees, are under the age of 30. "I feel like an Indian athlete who has won a gold medal at the Olympics. A part will also be used for general corporate purposes like working capital, operating expenses and capital expenditure. Founded by Mathrubootham and Shan Krishnasamy as Freshdesk in 2010, the company started its journey as a helpdesk software for customer support. It decided to rebrand itself to Freshworks in June 2017 to incorporate the company’s growing software suite. Freshworks claims to have over 52,500 customers across the globe and it reported a revenue of $169 million in the first half of 2021. Compared to the first half of 2020, the company’s revenue has grown by nearly $60 million. The success story of India’s first SaaS company to be listed in Nasdaq

Indian software-as-a-service (SaaS) company <keyword id="4621694" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="freshworks" source="Orion">Freshworks</keyword> has laid off nearly 90 employees, or 2 per cent of its total workforce, citing rough global conditions behind the move. The company's Founder and CEO Girish Mathrubootham told employees in an email that this is not a company-wide layoff but "a structural change". "In all the changes we undertook we have deployed and retained the majority of our teammates, however a few around 2 per cent of 5,200 people or approximately 90 employees for whom we do not have a readily available open position," Mathrubootham wrote in the email. The CEO said that Freshworks will help impacted employees by providing them healthcare coverage and outplacement services. "While we have reported a strong quarter, we are not immune to this slower economy. While new businesses picked up, expansion slowed down even as we reduced our growth forecasts and headcount needs," he wrote. Freshworks joins a growing list of tech companies that have laid off employees amid global macro-economic conditions. The Nasdaq-listed firm was valued at $12.2 billion after it opened 21 per cent above the initial offering price of $36 apiece in September last year. Mathrubootham, in interviews with media outlets, highlighted that the IPO created a lot of wealth for its employees as more than 500 of its employees turned crorepatis (millionaires). He further added that about 70, of these 500 employees, are under the age of 30. We have beaten every quarter, every year. So the last two quarters, January-February-March and April-May-June. April-May-June has been the best quarter in the history of Icertis,” Darda added. After Freshworks, Icertis is looking for an IPO for next year in the US

The software-as-a-services (SaaS) platform, which solely focuses on the travel and hospitality segment, intends to raise ₹1,335 crore through fresh as well as offer for sale (OFS). The price band has been set at ₹405-₹425. The lot size has been fixed at 35 shares, meaning a retail investor will have to shell out ₹14,175 to buy the shares. RateGain’s grey market premium (GMP), premium at which investors are comfortable buying the shares before it gets listed on a stock exchange, was at ₹85 on December 6. RateGain is seeking a valuation of ₹4,537 crore (about $600 million) at the upper end of the price band. The stock brokerages, who have previously raised concerns of valuation of digital businesses like Paytm and Zomato, too seem to be comfortable with the valuation being accorded to RateGain. “While there is no listed peer available for a direct comparison to RateGain in the domestic market, its valuations at ~50% discount to unicorns like Zomato and Paytm give comfort on the valuation front. In the new era of internet and AI [artificial intelligence]-based software services, we believe the premium valuation of the company is likely to sustain,” Reliance Securities said in its latest report. A unicorn, in startup parlance, is a firm valued at or over a billion dollars. The brokerage has also recommended retail investors to subscribe to RateGain’s IPO as there is “high growth potential, unique business proposition with minimal competition and valuation comfort.” The company, however, still is under threat of COVID-19 as well as any situation that may disturb the global travel scenario. This is rather odd as several tech entrepreneurs dream of getting their startups listed in American stock exchange Nasdaq. It’s not just a matter of pride, but also a strategic move. There are majorly two reasons for Indian tech startups to explore a Nasdaq listing — retail investors have better understanding of tech business in the US and/or majority of their revenue is coming from that market. Besides this, international listing gives Indian companies a larger and more diverse pool of capital. Whether it's the already listed Freshworks or soon-to-be-listed Icertis, <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/startups/inmobi-prepares-for-nasdaq-listing-to-seek-15-billion-valuation/articleshow/81789159.cms">InMobi </a>or <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/pine-labs-reportedly-joins-the-long-list-of-indian-tech-startups-heading/articleshow/81760763.cms">PineLabs</a> — one of these three factors are the driving force of listing abroad. So it is quite amusing why RateGain would choose to get itself listed in India and that too in 2021 — potentially the worst time for any travel tech business due to the ongoing pandemic. Bhanu Chopra, the chairperson and managing director of RateGain told Business Insider that there were three reasons why the company decided not to go for a Nasdaq listing. First, the ability to drive up brand value being a local company is much higher. Second, they wanted to be the torchbearer of the first product SaaS company to list in India. Third, there were several logistical issues that couldn’t have been solved without making some organisational changes and it was quite cumbersome. Therefore, the company decided to stick to its home market and be the first SaaS company to list in India. Rate Gain has over 1,434 customers — across the hotel, hospitality and online travel agency (OTA) segment — spread across 110 countries. In order to serve the customers in these locations, RateGain has set up its subsidiaries in the United Kingdom, United States and Spain. It has also acquired three companies to date — US-based DHISCO and BCV, and<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/ipo-bound-rategain-acquires-germany-based-myhotelshop/articleshow/86454447.cms"> Germany-based myhotelshop</a>. About 65% of RateGain’s revenue comes from the US market, while nearly 2% comes from India. Its last reported valuation was $133 million in 2015. As the entire segment was suffering, RateGain was bound to suffer too as they comprised its clients. The company decided to take a pause and arm itself with better products to meet the pent-up demand that may come back soon as people indulge in revenge travel and COVID-related restrictions are lifted. The company counts Lemon Tree, OYO and several other hotels and online travel aggregators (OTAs) as its clients. Besides this, the company believes that Indian investors are now ready to invest in tech businesses. Chopra believes that the investors' interest in Indian startups have increased in both private as well as public markets. This can be seen in terms of the number of unicorns -- private firms valued at or more than $1 billion -- that are being created as well as the number of companies hitting the public market. “My sense is that the Indian investor is now ready and they understand the future of any industry is digitisation. Now, RateGain is leading that effort in digitisation of the travel and hospitality industry” Chopra added. The pent-up demand of the travel industry and the positive global outlook is driving 26% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) growth. “Retail investors understand that the travel industry is recovering very fast and it is going to be the fastest growing industry in the next four-five years,” he added. Chopra believes that the ecosystem has developed enough for retail investors to understand the upcoming trends. The grey market premium — premium at which companies’ shares are being traded in the grey market — was ₹730 on December 30. The company was founded in 1995 by Rakesh and Rashmi Verma, and it is now headed by Rohan Verma. It builds digital map data, telematics services, location-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) and geographic information system (GIS) services. MapmyIndia reported a profit of ₹59.4 crore in fiscal year 2021 and the revenue was at ₹152 crore. The company has 500 clients, including PhonePe, Flipkart, Yulu, HDFC Bank, Airtel, Hyundai, MG Motor, Avis and Safexpress.
