Australia emerges as the hottest employment destination for Indian graduates seeking overseas jobs

<ul><li>SP Jain School of Global Management has recorded the highest starting package as ₹45 lakh for its global MBA programme. </li><li> The average annual salaries of students also increase thrice over to ₹20 lakh — compared to ₹6.5 lakh before enrolling in MBA programme. </li><li>Over half of the students were extended international placement opportunities. </li><li>Top recruiters include KPMG, Deloitte, Adani and Barclays.</li></ul>SP Jain School of Global Management, which was recently ranked as the 12th best institute for international MBA programmes by Forbes, is living up to its laurels. Of the total 180 students, more than half of MBA graduates from the b-school have bagged international offers across locations like Singapore and Dubai. The top recruiters include KPMG, Deloitte, Adani and Barclays. It has received the highest salary package ever at ₹45 lakh per annum for a student of its global MBA programme. And it is not a one off case either. The average annual salaries of students also increase thrice over to ₹20 lakh — compared to ₹6.5 lakh before enrolling in MBA programme. In the last one year, starting salaries increased by 10%. “Our students have a unique edge when it comes to competing for global jobs. They have first-hand knowledge of how to operate and succeed in a global business environment. They know how to work in global teams; these skills have continued to reap rewards in the form of better jobs and salaries long after they graduate,” said Balakrishna Grandhi, Dean of the school’s full-time post-graduate programmes. The global MBA programme is a one-year course dedicated to professionals with minimum three years of experience. One in every four offers came from the consulting sector. 90 MBA graduates from SP Jain Global bag international offers — with an average salary of ₹20 lakh

Most human resources (HR) professionals feel that business schools are not doing enough to address the skills gap facing organisations, a survey said. 
 "Only 29 per cent of the respondents felt that business schools are actually addressing the skills required at the workforce," according to a research on HR and business outlook conducted by <keyword id="1433263" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="SP-Jain-School-of-Global-Management">SP Jain School of Global Management</keyword>. 

	A total of 61 per cent of HR professionals across organisations felt that business schools were somewhat addressing the skills gap and 10 per cent felt that B-schools were doing "very little". 
 

	The survey opined that this makes a very strong case for re-imagining management education itself. 
 SP Jain School of Global Management conducted the research across its campuses in Dubai, Singapore, Sydney and India among professionals from various sectors, including HR executives in <keyword id="34523" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="fmcg">FMCG</keyword>, <keyword id="34583" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="pharmaceuticals">pharmaceuticals</keyword>, banking and financial services and hospitality sectors, among others. 

	The top skills identified as desirable for B-school graduates were managing complexity, innovative thinking, critical thinking and problem solving, effective communication skills, leadership and interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and diversity, decision making and problem solving, design thinking and dealing with ambiguity, it said. 
 Further, it said that promoting business growth has emerged as the top concern among <keyword id="674268" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="HR-managers">HR managers</keyword> across the world, followed by managing costs, enhancing employee engagement and retention, aligning business with HR strategy and attracting talent for key positions. 

	Clearly there is a transformation here as HR has always been seen as primarily only responsible for attracting and retaining key talent, it added. 
 

	HR managers across the world agreed that 'managing employee expectations' was one of the major concerns that they were grappling with. 
 

	This is followed by aligning business and HR strategy, developing effective HR programs, upskilling HR professionals for the future and adopting new technology, the survey said. 
 

	"The importance of HR can never be overemphasised. It is fast emerging as the bedrock on which performance of companies will be benchmarked," said Christopher Abraham, the architect of the survey and HR thought leader at the SP Jain School of Global Management. 
 

	The survey also explored the top five retention strategies. Innovative and engaging work topped the list, which spoke about how the new age workforce is keen to be involved and contribute. 
 

	This was followed by work-life balance programs, meaningful benefits and incentives, competitive remuneration options and leadership development programs.

B-schools not doing enough to bridge skills gap: Survey

According to the company, the remuneration for these job roles will range from ₹15 lakhs to ₹28.5 lakhs, depending on the role. Other than the core software roles, it will also hire nearly 80 freshers as web developers, UI developers, database engineer, business development associates, research analysts, and aata analysts. “With a major share of the marketers’ budget being allocated to digital ads, there is widespread demand for professionals to meet the growing needs of customers. These new hires will bring with them innovative ideas and help us build a next-gen technology platform,” the company said in a statement. While for the managerial roles, it is absorbing talent from top b-schools in India, including Indian School of Business (ISB), Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and SP Jain Institute of Management and Research for product management, product analytics, and product marketing roles. A global adtech firm is looking for over 130 new engineering and management freshers in Mumbai and Bengaluru

Several states in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> are likely to see a power shortage in the coming weeks as power plants struggle to find optimum amounts of thermal coal amid rising summer demand, higher import costs and the resultant supply tightness, sources told S&amp;P Global Commodity Insights. Global thermal coal prices have remained elevated as a fallout of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which disrupted trade flows and crippled supply amid additional demand from <keyword id="28249" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="europe" source="Orion">Europe</keyword>, which has now sanctioned Russian coal. As a result, imported coal has largely remained out of bounds for price-sensitive markets like India, S&amp;P Global Commodity Insights said. The shortage level was even higher at 80.08 million units on April 7, which raised concerns among several market participants, who said the crunch was near to mid-October 2021 levels when India faced an acute power crisis as the stockpile at 115 power plants slipped to critical levels. According to a notice issued by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. on March 31, reviewed by S&amp;P Global, the state has decided to temporarily curtail electricity supply to segments of agricultural power consumers in the state. Other provinces where high supply shortages were recorded on April 10 include <keyword id="6355554" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="madhya-pradesh" source="Orion">Madhya Pradesh</keyword> (9.67 MU), the union territories of Jammu and <keyword id="6354495" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kashmir" source="Orion">Kashmir</keyword> and Ladakh (cumulatively 4.65 MU), <keyword id="6354953" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="punjab" source="Orion">Punjab</keyword> (4.5 MU), Haryana (4.39 MU) and Jharkhand (2.29 MU). India's state-run Coal India said March 28 that its pithead stock is expected to rise above 60 million mt by April 1, 39.39% lower than the corresponding period in the previous year. Coal stocks at Indian power plants stood at 25.5 million mt March 28, 12.96% lower on the year. India to face more power cuts amid coal shortage and rising demand

Mumbai, Apr 7 () Even before the COVID-19 worries-led market rout dented the value of mutual fund investments, there are chances that the fund was anyways underperforming from a long-term perspective.According to a study by S&amp;P Indices Versus Active (SPIVA), for the five years ending December 2019, a majority of funds were underperforming.Typically, asset management companies say one must invest in mutual funds for the medium to long-term and see through near-term volatilities. However, massive correction of over 25 per cent in the benchmarks over the last two months have made investors worried over the value of their portfolios.The SPIVA study said 82.29 per cent of equity large cap funds, 78.38 per cent of the ELSS (equity linked savings scheme) funds and 40.91 per cent of Mid/Small Cap equity funds underperformed their respective indices in the five years.If one feels that the condition of the portfolio would be better from a longer time horizon, Akash Jain, the associate director for global research at S&amp;P Dow Jones Indices said majority of the actively managed large-cap equity funds in India underperformed the S&amp;P BSE 100 with 64.80 per cent large-cap funds underperforming over the 10-year ending in December 2019.Over the one-year period ending December 2019, the S&amp;P BSE 100 surged 10.92 per cent, while 40 per cent of the Indian Equity Large-Cap funds underperformed the benchmark, it said. Among all the categories evaluated in the SPIVA India Scorecard, the Mid-/Small- category fared the best for active funds with majority of them managing to beat the S&amp;P BSE 400 MidSmallCap Index across different time horizons studied in the report. Most mutual funds underperformed benchmarks during 2014-19 period: Report

New Delhi, May 13 () Gold exchange-traded funds have been gaining traction from investors and have attracted Rs 731 crore in April amid increased risk-aversion as the coronavirus pandemic severely hit equity investments and the global economy. The category has been one of the better performing asset classes over the past year. Since August 2019, Gold exchange-traded fund (ETF) segment has witnessed a net inflow of Rs 2,414 crore. According to the latest data available with the Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi), a net sum of Rs 731 crore was pumped into gold-linked ETFs in April as compared to an outflow of Rs 195 crore in March. The category had seen a staggering investment of Rs 1,483 crore in February and Rs 202 crore in January. Prior to that, the safe-haven asset saw an infusion of Rs 27 crore in December and Rs 7.68 crore in November. However, it had seen a net pull-out of Rs 31.45 crore in October. "The high investment amount in April suggests that investors are still lining up to buy gold - something observed when equity markets look bearish. The lockdown and its resulting economic slowdown is contributing to investors' cautious behaviour," said Harsh Jain Co-founder and COO Groww. Echoing similar views, Himanshu Srivastava, senior research analyst (manager research), Morningstar Investment Adviser India said, "With coronavirus pandemic hanging as a spectre on the global economy and markets worldwide, gold, with its safe-haven status, has emerged as a preferred investment destination among investors." He, further, said that surge in gold prices also provided a profit-booking opportunity for investors, and they made good use of it intermittently. As a result, the gold ETF category witnessed net outflow of Rs 31 crore in October 2019 and a net outflow of Rs 195 core in March 2020. Gold functions as a strategic asset in an investor's portfolio, given its ability to act as an effective diversifier, and alleviate losses during tough market conditions and economic downturns. It's a safe-haven appeal, which has been on full display in 2019 and so far in 2020, as the yellow metal is witnessing one of its best rallies after 2011. The inflows meant assets under management (AUM) of gold funds climbed to Rs 9,198 crore at the end of April from Rs 7,949 crore at the end of March. Gold-backed ETFs are passive investment instruments that are based on price movements and investments in physical gold. Going ahead, Srivastava said this segment may continue to gain traction from investors considering the threat posed by the coronavirus pandemic to the global economy and the markets. Also, the global economic conditions would have a big say in the future gold prices and how investments in gold ETFs take place going forward, Jain added. Overall, mutual fund houses witnessed an inflow of Rs 46,000 crore in April across all segments as compared to an outflow of Rs 2.13 lakh crore in March. The inflow led to assets under management of the 44-player industry surging to Rs 24 lakh crore by the end of April from Rs 22.26 lakh crore at the end of March. SP ANSANS

Gold ETFs attract Rs 731 cr in Apr amid coronavirus pandemic

The budget provides an indication of government’s intent. This was the 85th annual budget, and judging by the reaction of the market, one must certainly underline that it was a growth-oriented one.
 

	It is a welcome relief that the budget steered clear of populism and had a clear focus on fiscal consolidation, infrastructure and the depressed rural economy. Allocations for MGNREGA have been received well because it has demonstrated that the government is willing to support effective schemes, even if they were launched by the previous government.
 The government with its proposals showed its intent to stick to the roadmap for fiscal consolidation with next year’s <keyword id="6365485" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="fiscal-deficit">fiscal deficit</keyword> target at 3.5 per cent of the GDP. This is excellent from the point of view of how the world views India. 

	Looking to the demand for fiscal reforms on one side and the challenge of global headwinds on the other, the government’s decision to adhere to fiscal consolidation makes the budget pragmatic and prudent.
 Steps the government takes to boost growth would impact how India is perceived. Here the clear focus needs to be on the ease of doing business, providing a predictable tax regime, clarity on retroactive <keyword id="6383566" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Taxation">taxation</keyword>, disinvestment and curbing corruption. Naturally, passing the <keyword id="6354679" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="GST">GST</keyword> bill would be the game changer. Also, being associated with a management school, I am happy to applaud the need to spread digital literacy in rural areas. Of the 16.8 crore rural households, as many as 12 crore households do not have computers and are unlikely to have digitally literate people. The budget has also announced the setting up of a <keyword id="6375224" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="higher-education">higher education</keyword> financing agency, with a fund of Rs 1,000 crore, and we need to wait a while to know what this means. 

	In a budget, one must understand is that it is impossible to satisfy everyone but one has to look to the basics, whether the budget is going to help the economy. However, a criticism could be that one did not see new schemes that could boost economic growth and attract much-needed investment. The budget offered the government an excellent platform to take advantage of the global economic slowdown. However, we don’t see any incentive for NRIs who are the natural resource base of the country.

IIT Kharagpur kicks off placement season with a bang — 5 students bag offers over ₹1 crore

New Delhi, Feb 4 () Investors' wealth increased Rs 3.57 lakh crore in two days of market rally where the Sensex zoomed 917 points on Tuesday in a broad-based recovery after the Budget-day fall.
 The 30-share BSE Sensex settled 917.07 points, or 2.30 per cent, higher at 40,789.38 on Tuesday. It hit an intra-day high of 40,818.94.
 On Monday, the index had gained 136.78 points.
 Recovery in the market led to a rise in market capitalisation of the BSE-listed firms which climbed Rs 3,57,044.43 crore to Rs 1,56,61,769.40 crore since Saturday.
 The 30-share BSE key index had ended 987.96 points, or 2.43 per cent, lower at 39,735.53 on the Budget day.
 "Indian bourses tanked on Saturday after the Budget disappointed the Street's expectations. This was a knee-jerk reaction but as investors realised that the Budget will aid in the long-term growth of the economy, the market picked up. With the Budget overhang gone, investors are breathing a sigh of relief and are back to make fresh calls. Additionally," Umesh Mehta, Head of Research, Samco Securities said.
 Mehta also said January auto sales numbers were comparatively decent and with no other negative news, the Indian bourses saw a sudden rally on Tuesday.
 Religare Broking Vice-President (Research) Ajit Mishra said, "Indian markets witnessed a sharp surge in today's session led by positive global cues and declining oil prices."
 From the 30-share BSE Sensex pack, 28 companies closed with gains led by Titan Company, ITC, HDFC and Bajaj Finance.
 On the BSE, 1,618 scrips advanced, while 885 declined and 181 remained unchanged.
 In the broader market, the S&amp;P BSE Midcap Index gained 1.37 per cent and Smallcap rose 1.29 per cent.
 Vikas Jain, senior research analyst, Reliance Securities, said: "Positive global market also led to the upward momentum."
 Bourses in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Seoul settled with firm gains. Stock exchanges in Europe also opened on a positive note. SUM HRS

New Delhi, May 11 () The number of proposals for new fund offers (NFOs) filed by mutual fund houses with markets regulator Sebi has been dwindling since past few months largely due to the nationwide lockdown and its impact on overall investor sentiment. Fund houses approached Sebi for as many as 11 NFOs in January, the number fell to six in February and further dropped to just one in March and nil in April. In May so far, the figure stands at two, according to the markets regulator. Since March, draft documents for only three new schemes have been filed. This comprises one by Nippon India MF in March and two by SBI MF in May and interestingly, all the three are passive funds. "The slowdown in March/April is largely related to the lockdown and its impact on overall investor sentiment," said Kaustubh Belapurkar, Director – Manager Research, Morningstar India. Jimmy Patel, MD and CEO, Quantum Mutual Fund said the industry is grappling with fixed income funds facing redemption pressure last month and the prevailing market conditions are not so encouraging either, which resulted in slowdown in NFO filing. "In COVID-19 era, there seems to be uncertainty on the survival and continuity of a lot of industries and business models. At this point in time, it is not a liquidity crisis but a crisis of confidence," Ashika Wealth Advisors Co-Founder and CEO Amit Jain said. So far in 2020, draft documents for 20 NFOs have been submitted with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi). Of these, some of the schemes have already been launched after getting regulatory clearances. Of these 20 NFOs request filed with Sebi, a large chunk of these offerings are passive funds. Patel said passive funds have slowly gaining traction as such funds do not need minimum assets under management (AUM) and investor count, Patel said. Themes like exchange traded funds (ETFs) and environment social and governance (ESG) attracted of mutual fund companies. Besides, many mutual fund companies filed applications for index funds. Given the defined Sebi categories most fund companies are only looking to fill gaps in their active fund bouquets if any. "On the passive side there has been a fair bit of interest with a number of offerings around broader Index funds and ETFs as well as some thematic /sectoral ETFs. Another theme that is seeing interest is the ESG theme, which has been in the spotlight globally for a while now," Belapurkar said. "Fund companies are beefing up their product bouquets to be ready for the future where passive funds and ESG funds will play an increasingly important role in investor portfolios," he added. Jain said new fund offer shall increase once economic and financial stability is restored in the system. Nippon India MF, SBI MF, Aditya Birla Sunlife MF, DSP MF, BNP Paribas MF, UTI MF, Tata MF and HSBC MF are the fund houses that approached Sebi with the offer documents for NFOs.
