SLBC officials said banks will remain open for internal work till 4 p.m. The decision can be extended beyond May 15 after assessing the Covid situation in the state. Only 50 per cent of the staff will work daily on a rotation basis. The new rule will be implemented in all public and private banks from Thursday." Kolkata, Mar 23 () Following the lockdown in mostparts of West Bengal in view of the coronavirus outbreak,banking transactions in the state will be reduced by two hourstill 2 pm instead of 4 pm from Tuesday, an official of theState Level Banker's Committee (SLBC) said here.The decision was taken at an SLBC meeting on Monday.Ashok Pradhan, MD &amp; CEO of the United Bank of India(UBI), the convenor of SLBC in West Bengal, told thatbanks will carry out basic four operations -- deposits,withdrawals, remittances and government transactions."For the time being, banking transactions will be heldtill 2 pm. To observe social distancing, we will ask customersnot to come to the bank for passbook printing. It is beingsuspended for the time being," he said.All rural branches will remain open, and in the metroswhere branches are concentrated within a certain area,services will be provided in a truncated manner as all of themare in CBS platform, an official of the UCO Bank said.At the SLBC meeting, discussions were also held on howemployees will reach the office during banking hours due tothe lockdown when no public transport will be available, hesaid.Banking services were exempted from the purview of thelockdown which will continue till March 27. dc BDCNN NN

COVID-19: Banks in Bengal to transact till 2 pm

New Delhi, Mar 22 () To carry out basic essential transactions, the Indian Banks' Association (IBA) has asked banks to open only selective branches in areas that have been placed under lockdown across the country in view of the coronavirus pandemic. In a late night communique to the heads of banks, the IBA requested the state level SLBC convenor banks and lead district managers to proactively consult the state administration to chalk out a feasible Business Continuity Plan (BCP). India reported three more coronavirus deaths on Sunday, including the first casualties from Bihar and Gujarat, taking the toll to seven and the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 360, as authorities suspended all passenger trains and inter-state bus services till March 31 and more states imposed unprecedented restrictions to contain the spread of the infection. "Keeping this in view, after due deliberation, it is suggested that member banks may selectively keep their branches open at such locations after due consultation with the local state government/authorities to carry out the basic essential transactions," the IBA said. The association asked the CEO of banks to empower their regional or zonal or circle heads to take appropriate decision in the matter. "State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC) convenors should also take concurrence of the regional director of RBI for implementation of BCP prepared by them. The MD &amp; CEOs of the SLBC convenor banks may take the lead in providing guidance to the SLBC convenor and member banks in the state for effective implementation of the contingency plan," it said. The IBA asked all banks to prepare BCP for uninterrupted availability of banking services through alternate delivery channels for the convenience of the public and expressed hope that all the member banks will rise to the occasion to collectively sail through the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier in the day, the association had asked customers to use online and mobile banking channels for making their transactions and avoid visiting bank branches as it could pose a risk to banks' front desk staff. COVID-19: Only selective branches of banks to be open in areas under lockdown

Ahmedabad, Dec 24 () Gross NPAs of Gujarat banks have increased to Rs 43,290.18 crore, or 7.10 per cent of the outstanding, as of September 2019 compared to Rs 39,695 crore, or 6.55 per cent as of June this year, revealed the report of
State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) released on Tuesday.
Gross NPAs in overall agricultural segment remained at 7.56 per cent of the outstanding amount, while those of the MSMEs were the highest at 8.02 per cent of outstanding, the report reveals.
Gross NPAs of non-priority sector remained at 7.51 per cent of outstanding.
Gross advances of the banks in the state of Gujarat are Rs 6,09,847 crore, and gross NPAs are Rs 43,290 crore, i.e., 7.10 per cent as of September, 2019, SLBC said.
Bank-wise data shows gross NPAs of nationalised banks remain at the highest at Rs 30,039.8 crore, or 15.28 per cent of total outstanding of Rs 196,557.10 crore, while that of private banks remain at 2.65 per cent of total outstanding of Rs 261,407 crore.
The report also highlighted new initiative launched by the state government through a notification dated October 24, 2019, relaxing licencing requirement for MSMEs for three years.
Under this, enterprises will only require to provide declaration of intent, based on which investor facilitation agency will issue an all-purpose acknowledgment certificate,
making setting up and obtaining finance for MSME a hassle-free process.
It urged banks to tweak its MSME policies whereby mere obtaining acknowledgement certificate as defined in the act would enable bank to extend finance.
The SLBC further said in its latest report that all unbanked tier IV rural centres in the state having between 10,000-19,999 population have been covered with banking
outlets either through brick and mortar or business correspondent model.
However, in terms of tier V centres, with villages having between 5,000-9,999 population, 160 centres are yet to get banking outlets, it said.
Also, in terms of performance of tribal districts of Dahod and Narmada under key financial inclusion parameters, banks in these districts require much more efforts to bring the performance at par with other districts, it said.
The report said a total Rs 425.96 crore was collected from farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana from 13.69 lakh farmers for Kharif 2019 season, which covers a total 25.45 lakh hectare area.
Out of a total 15.53 lakh farmers covered under the scheme who paid Rs 366.42 crore as premium, 12.07 lakh farmers were provided claims, with companies settling 2,334 crore as amount of claim, SLBC said.
In terms of Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana, till November 30 this financial year, banks in the state disbursed a total of Rs 5651.09 crore as loan, given to a total 8.87 lakh beneficiaries.
Since its inception till September 30 this year, the total NPA in PMMY stood at Rs 442.63 crore of an outstanding of Rs 9,946.38 crore. KA PD RSY MKJ

As a per a circular issued to banks in Kerala, all member banks of the SLBC that the inward currencies at branches should not be recycled. The inward currencies are to be separately wrapped in packets with date and to be recycled only after 48 hours. "We infer that currency notes are a probable threat for spread of <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword>. <keyword id="48418" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Health-department">Health Department</keyword> has also opined that coronavirus could sustain on infected currency notes for about 12 hours." <keyword id="6357132" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Canara-Bank">Canara Bank</keyword> has issued a circular today to the SLBC member banks in Kerala. The staff in the branches have been asked to take precautions including wearing masks, gloves, using sanitisers and ensuring social distancing. Earlier, <keyword id="57968" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Banks-Association">Indian Banks' Association</keyword> (IBA) has made an appeal to people to wash their hands after touching or counting currency. IBA had also asked customers to use online and mobile banking channels for making their transactions and avoid visiting bank branches. "Wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds before and after physical banking/currency counting/AEPS (Aadhaar-enabled payments)," IBA had said in a public appeal. Traders body, the Confederation of All India Traders had also flagged these concerns to Finance Minister <keyword id="129243" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nirmala-Sitharaman">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword> about the possible spread of coronavirus through currency notes. CAIT had said that usage of paper currency which is (the) most dreaded carrier for different viruses and infections due to rapid change of hands between unknown people and thus becomes a health hazard. It cited the safety of polymer currency, mentioning 13 countries who have switched entirely to these notes, ditching paper variants, and more than 15 countries in line to do so.

Banks to recycle inward currency notes only after 48 hours on corona threat

Hyderabad, July 6 (): The Annual credit plan outlay by banks In Telangana has been pegged at Rs 1.61 lakh crore in the current financial year against Rs 1.46 lakh croreduring the last fiscal, a jump of 10.52 per cent. Of the total credit plan, priority sector share would be Rs 1.23 lakh crore against Rs 1.11 lakh crore in FY20, an official releasee said. Disbursals under the agricultural sector were projected at Rs 75,141.71 crore in FY21 against Rs 68,596.71 crore for the year 2019-20. The State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC), Telangana convened its 26th quarterly review meeting here on Monday to launch the Annual Credit Plan for the year 2020-21 and to review the performance of the Banks for the quarter ended December 2019 to March 2020. For Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Rs 35,196.87 crorewasprojected for disbursals for the current year against Rs 31,335.25 crore in the year 2019-20. Telangana banks' credit outlay pegged at Rs 1.61 lakh cr in FY21

Guwahati, May 20 () Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Wednesday urged the public and private sector banks of the state to devise a standard operating plan to maximize credit flow to MSMEs and other distressed sectors. The state government would constitute a committee with representation of bank officials to oversee implementation of the economic package and to ensure that all affected sectors get optimum benefits, he said while chairing a special State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) meeting with bank officials to ensure proper implementation of the COVID-19 economic stimulus package announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "The economic stimulus package is a historic announcement by the Prime Minister and the banks must seize this opportunity to rejuvenate the battered economy," he said. The MSME sector is one of the core areas of the state's economy and banks must reach out to the entrepreneurs, he said. Sonowal suggested that the banks should come out with standard operating plans to ensure maximum disbursal of loans so that there is more liquidity in the market. He urged them to convene meetings with all stakeholders to negate the possibility of the loans turning into bad loans. "The coronavirus pandemic had been an eye opener in terms of strengths and weaknesses in the state's economic sector and it was time to capitalize the learning to boost the economy," he said. The economic package brings much hope for the agri and allied sectors and banks must pump in more money to build agricultural infrastructure and focus on areas related to production, procurement and marketing of farm products, the chief minister said. Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also urged the banks to show leadership in overcoming the present economic crisis and work with a focus on realizing the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Atmanirbhar Assam. The MSMEs are now entitled for liquidity without guarantee and hence the banks should aggressively lend money to boost capital flow in the market, he said. The committee to be formed by the Government to oversee implementation of the economic package would be a favourable platform to sort out all issues faced by the borrowers and bankers, he said. The state government would introduce three awards to recognize the best performing banks on PM's economic package based on reports of an independent evaluator. Sonowal asks banks to devise plan to maximise credit flow to MSMEs

Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> had asked for 50 days while announcing demonetisation and the deadline ends today. However, the long queues outside banks and ATMs may not end as banks are still facing cash crunch. 
 
As per an internal review based on feedback from banks, the supply of currency from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) may still not be enough. 
 
As per the officials, as the 50-day deadline on note ban comes to an end, the government is still working with banks and RBI and is trying to calm down the situation. 
 
In a move against black money, counterfeiting and terror financing, Modi, on November 8th, announced that Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes would cease to be legal tender. 
 
Modi also assured that the hardship faced by the people due to cash crunch will be at ease by December 30th. 
 
While data made available by banks until December 26 pointed to the cash crunch persisting, those in Bihar said they have enough notes. 
 
"This is based on the feedback from State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) conveners. The government is working with both banks and RBI to address these issues at the earliest,” an official told ET. 
 
The data collated by the government also indicates that automated teller machines in most states are active and that cash is available with banking correspondents (BCs), who mostly serve rural areas. 
 About three-fourths of the country's 202,000 ATMs were functional while 143,000 banking correspondents had cash. <keyword id="20154" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword> had 13,000 active ATMs followed by 12,000 in Maharashtra. 
 
"We are ensuring through banks that BCs are functioning in rural areas and there is no cash shortage. At the same time, payments through digital means are also being popularised,” the official told ET. 
 However, banks in UP, <keyword id="6358126" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Himachal-Pradesh">Himachal Pradesh</keyword>, <keyword id="44522" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttarakhand">Uttarakhand</keyword> and Punjab reported cash shortage. In Himachal, banks attributed this to salary and pension payments. 
 In <keyword id="6357783" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="West-Bengal">West Bengal</keyword>, banks said new Rs 500 notes were in short supply along with Rs 100 notes.

Modi’s 50-day deadline ends today, banks still facing cash shortage

During the last three years, NRI deposits in Gujarat increased by 115% on economic vulnerability, depreciation of the <keyword id="6355302" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rupee">rupee</keyword>, and attractive interest rates offered to NRIs by Indian banks. In year 2014-15, the deposits breached the Rs 50,000-crore mark as it increased to Rs 54,574 crore. Gujaratis comprise around 33% of the <keyword id="6402673" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Diaspora">Indian diaspora</keyword> worldwide. And in term of NRI deposits, Gujarat is among the top five states in the country. Jayesh Vithalani, an Ahmedabad-based financial consultant told The Economic Times, "The <keyword id="2928303" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="liquidity-crisis-in-Europe">liquidity crisis in Europe</keyword> and Africa prompted many NRIs to divert their funds to India." The financial daily also revealed that in the 2013-14, India’s apex bank RBI hiked the Libor rate for <keyword id="488485" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Foreign-Currency-Non-resident">Foreign Currency Non-Resident</keyword> (<keyword id="91029" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="FCNR">FCNR</keyword>) accounts by up to 350 basis points for the period of three to 10 years. Using this FCNR account, an Indian residing abroad can maintain a fixed deposit in foreign currencies and eventually earn regular interest. 

	According to RBI data, in 2014-15, there was a little over $115 billion (about Rs 7 lakh crore) in NRI accounts in India. And Gujarat accounted for 7.78% of the total amount.
 The ET report also mentioned a latest <keyword id="1578282" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="State-Level-Bankers-Committee">State Level Bankers' Committee</keyword> (SLBC) data which showed that total bank deposits in Gujarat was Rs 4.9 lakh crore as of March 2015. NRI deposits in Gujarat passes Rs 50,000-crore mark

The graph of Non-Residents (NRs) deposits in Kerala banks is going up every year. The latest report by the <keyword id="440695" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="State-Level-Bankers-Committee">State Level Bankers Committee</keyword> (SLBC) revealed that current year’s deposits have been the maximum in the past few years, crossing Rs 1 lakh crore. 
 
As per a report appeared in Economic Times, deposits of NRs in Kerala banks have crossed Rs.1 lakh crore in the last financial year from Rs 66,190 crore in March 2013 to Rs.93,883 crore by March 31, 2014, and further to Rs 1,09,603 crore in the last fiscal. 
 Kerala’s <keyword id="6560713" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="State-Bank-of-Travancore">State Bank of Travancore</keyword> (SBT) has been leading with a deposit amount of Rs.26, 613 crore by the state's immigrants, followed closely by <keyword id="6356495" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Federal-bank">Federal Bank</keyword> with Rs.23, 214 crore. <keyword id="160270" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-State-Bank-of-India">The State Bank of India</keyword> was listed with a total <keyword id="2912959" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="NR-deposit">NR deposit</keyword> of Rs.14, 456 crore. 
 
It is noteworthy that the NR deposits in all 21 nationalised banks in the state add up to Rs.23,203 crore, which is less than such deposits with the SBT and the Federal Bank considered separately. 
 
Going by the figures quoted in the report, a total bank deposits in Kerala in the last fiscal stood at Rs.3,19,890 crore, up from Rs.2,79,655 crore in March 2014, while the total advances extended by these banks grew from Rs.1,92,010 crore in March 2014 to Rs.2,18,706 crore in the last fiscal.

Kerala banks’ NR deposit breaks record; reaches 1 lakh crore

A steady <keyword id="6355302" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Rupee">rupee</keyword> is pushing NRIs to withdraw from banks in <keyword id="6354766" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Gujarat">Gujarat</keyword>. After posting growth for five consecutive quarters, <keyword id="6357804" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="NRI">NRI</keyword> deposits in banks, mainly private sector banks, across the state - except Kutch - have reduced by Rs 9,890 crore during the quarter ending December 2014. Rupee largely remained steady in comparison with <keyword id="6368584" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="US-dollar">US dollar</keyword> during the quarter. 
 
According to the latest data compiled by State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC), NRI deposits decreased stood at Rs 49,722 crore forming about 10.56% of the total deposits as of December 31, 2014 as against Rs 59,612 crore (13.08%) as of September 30, 2014. 
 NRI deposits of <keyword id="6355975" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Axis-Bank">Axis Bank</keyword> reduced from Rs 6,550.35 crore in September 2014 to Rs 5.7 crore in December 2014. Similarly, NRI deposits of <keyword id="6653" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="ICICI-bank">ICICI bank</keyword> also reduced by Rs 1,987 crore over September 2014. 
 "After a sharp fall in 2013-14, rupee remained steady on global cues in later half of 2014-15. This also led to less fresh funds arriving in the state.
