The energy supply order has been secured by wholly-owned subsidiary JSW Neo Energy Limited, JSW Energy said, adding that the company received the letter of award following a tariff-based competitive bidding process. Bids were invited for supply of 630 MW of firm and dispatchable power from an inter state transmission system or ISTS-connected renewable energy project SECI-FDRE-IV, JSW Energy said in an exchange filing. With the latest <keyword id="19895601" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="contract" source="keywords">contract</keyword>, the company's total locked-in generation capacity has increased to 16.4 GW, which includes a hybrid capacity of 2.3 GW, including FDRE (firm and dispatchable renewable energy). The company expects to have an installed generation capacity of 10 GW by FY25, up from 7.5 GW currently. JSW Energy gets contract from SECI for supply of 230 MW renewable energy

New Delhi, The <keyword id="6404450" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-road-transport-and-highways" source="Orion">Ministry of Road Transport and Highways</keyword> (MoRTH) is confident of achieving the highways construction target of 13,814 kilometres for the current fiscal, its secretary <keyword id="20078656" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="anurag-jain" source="keywords">Anurag Jain</keyword> said on Friday. Addressing a press conference, <keyword id="19950697" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jain" source="keywords">Jain</keyword> further said the total length of national highways in <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword> increased 60 per cent to 1,46,145 km till December 2023, from 91,287 km in 2014, since the <keyword id="19895781" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="narendra-modi" source="keywords">Narendra Modi</keyword> government came into power. "The pace of highway construction in 2023-24 so far has been better than last year, and we are confident of achieving the 13,814-km highway construction target during the current fiscal," he said. Up to December 31, 2023, the ministry has built 6,217 km of national highway, higher than last year's 5,774 km for the same period. According to him, the government is planning to award 10,000 km of national highway projects in 2023-24. Jain also said that the government has asked companies to prepare detailed project reports (DPR) for unawarded identified projects to increase the pace of awarding in 2023-24. He said the total length of four-lanes and above national highways (NHs) increased by 2.5 times to 46,179 km in December 2023 from 18,387 km in 2014. While the total length of high-speed corridors in 2014 was 353 km, which increased to 3,913 km in 2023, the total length of less than 2-lane national highways decreased from 30 per cent (2014) to 10 per cent of national highway network in 2023. Jain also said the road ministry has constructed 6,217 km of national highways up to December in 2023-24. He noted that expenditure on the ministry's highways construction expenditure is expected to increase by 9.4 times to Rs 3.17 lakh crore in 2023 from 2014. Jain said under the <keyword id="20078657" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vehicle-scrapping-policy" source="keywords">Vehicle Scrapping Policy</keyword>, 44 registered vehicle scrapping facilities (RVSFs) are operational in India, while concession and motor vehicle tax was announced by 19 states/ Union Territories. Jain said state-owned NHAI has collected Rs 18,450 crore as toll till December in the current financial year.

According to the global credit rating agency, <keyword id="99389" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="vedanta-resources" source="Orion">Vedanta Resources</keyword>' credit profile will not be weighed down by the group's $20 billion semiconductor manufacturing venture as the investment will be made outside of the company. "The business (semiconductor) will be undertaken in a separate entity under Vedanta Resources' holding company <keyword id="5026635" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="volcan-investments-ltd" source="Orion">Volcan Investments Ltd</keyword>," it said. Any potential credit impact of the planned investments in the semiconductor business will depend on the details of the funding plan, which have yet to emerge, the credit rating agency added. This is the worlds largest ever <keyword id="12733047" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="green-power-purchase-agreement-" source="Orion">green power purchase agreement.</keyword> "We are pleased to have signed the world's largest PPA with SECI," said Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group. "This is yet another step in our journey to enable India's dual objective to accelerate India's renewable energy footprint as well as promote domestic manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat programme. Following the proceedings at COP26, it is increasingly evident that the world has to equitably transition to a low carbon economy faster than previously anticipated. This is why the Adani Group has committed $50-$70 billion of investment in the renewables space. This agreement keeps us well on track to our commitment to become the world's largest renewables player by 2030," he added. The AGEL-SECI agreement to supply 4,667 MW is part of a manufacturing-linked solar tender of 8,000 MW awarded to AGEL by SECI in June 2020, which set a record for being the world's largest solar development tender ever awarded. So far, AGEL has signed PPAs with SECI for a total generation capacity of close to 6000 MW of the 8,000 MW awarded in 2020. AGEL expects to close the balance 2000 MW PPA in the next two to three months. The number of active cases surpassed the 10,000-mark for the first time in 134 days. On Sunday, the health ministry had put the count of active cases at 9,433. The daily positivity rate has been recorded at 3.19% and the weekly positivity rate at 1.39%. The Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan will hold a meeting with States' health secretaries and senior officers on Monday evening, via video conferencing, to review the preparedness for Covid-19. A nationwide mock drill is being planned for April 10-11 in which health facilities from all the districts are expected to participate. The details of the drill will be communicated in the meeting today. There are a few states like Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamilnadu that have reported the maximum number of Covid-19 cases in the country. But hospitalization remains low in these states, said ANI. The Union health secretary highlighted the precautions that need to be taken by the people. The Union Health Secretary also mentioned that States should maintain the optimum testing for Covid-19 preparedness. 6 deaths reported in the last 24 hours Also, six deaths, one each reported by Chandigarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, and two in Kerala, in the last 24 hours. The capital city has 528 active cases, of which 340 patients are being treated in home isolation. The total tally of Covid cases across the country is 4.47 crore, the data stated. The active cases now comprise 0.02% of the total infections, while the national Covid recovery rate has been recorded at 98.79%, according to the health ministry's website. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease has increased to 4.41 crore, the data stated. The case fatality rate has been recorded at 1.19%, as per PTI. According to the ministry's website, 220.65 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered so far under the nationwide <keyword id="9257042" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-vaccination" source="Orion">Covid vaccination</keyword> drive. 38 school girls test Covid positive in UP’s Lamkhimpur Kheri Thirty-eight girl students of the Kasturba residential school in Mitauli block of Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district have tested positive for Covid-19 infection, a district health official said. In his message on '<keyword id="59209" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="World-Food-Day">World Food Day</keyword>', which was released here on Thursday by the UN India, he said, "It is unacceptable that hunger is on the rise at a time when the world wastes more than one billion tonnes of food every year." Two billion men, women, and children are overweight or obese. Unhealthy diets present an enormous risk of disease and death, Guterres said, adding that "it is time to change how we produce and consume, including to reduce greenhouse emissions". World Food Day marked call for zero hunger "for a world where nutritious food is available and affordable for everyone, everywhere". Transforming food systems is crucial for delivering all the sustainable development goals (SDG) and "that is why I hope to convene a 'Food Systems Summit in 2021' as part of a decade of action to deliver SDG. As a human family, a world free of hunger is our imperative, he said. Climate emergency was an increasing threat to food, the UN Secretary General warned. According to the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) report, India has the world's largest undernourished population with 194.4 million (14.5 per cent). About 20.8 per cent children under the age of five years are underweight. Similarly, 37.9 per cent of children in that age group are stunted. UN Secy says 820 million people go hungry as billion tonnes of food is wasted

New Delhi, Jun 2 () Former finance secretary Subhash Chandra Garg on Tuesday said the Indian economy will shrink by 10 per cent or Rs 20 lakh crore in the ongoing fiscal, the first contraction in over 40 years, due to a "faulty" COVID lockdown. Garg also said that the government's Rs 21 lakh crore stimulus package is actually of only Rs 1.4-1.5 lakh crore or about 0.7 per cent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP). "It is certain that India's GDP will contract after 40 years in 2020-21," he said in a blogpost, adding that "it also appears fairly certain that this would be a very large contraction of about 10 per cent of GDP or loss of about Rs 20 lakh crore of income". The former finance secretary went on to say that the 2020-21 fiscal will go down in the history of India as the year when India got way-laid from its story of three decadal outstanding growth. Pointing out that India was not in the pink of economic health in 2019-20, he said the economy grew barely by 4 per cent for the year which happens to be the lowest growth rate in last 11 years. Recently, rating agencies Fitch and Crisil drastically cut India's economic growth forecast for the current fiscal year due to a prolonged lockdown. Fitch forecast 5 per cent contraction in 2020-21, a sharp decline from 0.8 per cent growth projected by the global rating agency in late April. Crisil also predicted the economy to shrink by 5 per cent in the current fiscal. Earlier, it projected a growth of 1.8 per cent. The former finance secretary termed India's lockdown strategy to contain spread of coronavirus as faulty. "The lockdown was imposed under a naive belief that India would be able to eliminate COVID-19 from the face of India in three weeks' time. "India decided to use the brahmastra - total economic and human lockdown - on the entire country when only a tiny part was infected," he argued. The nationwide lockdown was first announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 24 for 21 days in a bid to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus. The lockdown was first extended till May 3 and then again till May 17. It was further extended till May 31 and now has been extended in containment zones till June 30. BKS MKJ

New Delhi, Mar 3 () Former finance secretary Subhash Chandra Garg on Tuesday announced that he has joined as advisor to the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. Garg, who in a surprise move took voluntary retirement from service last year, had joined the central government in 2014 and was appointed executive director in the World Bank where he stayed till 2017, when he was appointed the DEA secretary in June 2017. In December 2018, he was elevated as the finance secretary after the retirement of Hasmukh Adhia. "Happy to join as Advisor Resources to CM, AP. State has initiated a number of efficient &amp; effective DBT schemes under Navaratnalu umbrella. State has considerable legacy financial stress, which ongoing economic slowdown has deepened further. New Delhi, Feb 27 () Industry needs to focus on sustainable packaging materials as one can not allow them to be a source of waste to spoil the environment, a top government official said on Thursday. Commerce Secretary Anup Wadhawan said that packaging material should be biodegradable, re-usable and recyclable. "We need to focus on this aspect. We cannot allow packaging to be a source of waste... littering the environment, spoiling the ecosystem and cause potential damage to animals," he said. He was addressing a national conference on packaging, organised by Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) here. "We need to address this by making right choice of material," he said. Further, Wadhawan said that there was a need encourage entrepreneurship and skilling to promote growth of the sector. Speaking about the sector, IIP Joint Director Madhab Chakraborty said that the current Indian market size of the sector is about USD 32 billion. He said three new centres of the institute are coming up at Guwahati, Bangalore, and Andhra Pradesh. "We have got land for all these three centres," he said adding that there was huge demand in the sector for industry to work on innovative environment-friendly materials. The IIP is a national apex body which was set up in 1966 by the packaging and allied industries and the Ministry of Commerce with the specific objective of improving the packaging standards in the country.
